Went Jeq In The House yesterday for friend gathering. It was an awesome café you can spend your entire place at! I love the decorations of the café. So rustic feeling! The must try cake here is their tiramisu. All of us loves it much. However, I myself never see such tiramisu before yet the best I have had. I will definitely come back for this. Also, I order their Creamy Pasta. It was delightful too but slightly dry on top. So I have to keep digging from the bottom. The staffs were friendly yet not attentive enough. Maybe because we sit at the last table. And it was so crowded in the evening. Overall, this café is recommended; however finding a parking might need some luck. So if you come with friends, please consider carpooling.

TLDR: Coffee not bad, food a bit expensive for the portions. Would come again for coffee. Nice ambience; standard industrial-chic yellow lighting and wooden/metal furniture. Flat white(RM10) is good(however I am a bit taste-blind when it comes to coffee, I know when it’s burnt and that’s it). The food is a different story — we had the chicken pot pie and the mushroom spaghetti. The mushroom spaghetti was quite small for the price(RM18) served in a standard soup bowl. You could make the same portion for yourself at home with frozen ingredients at half the price, so the margins must be quite insane. Taste was pretty good. The chicken pot pie(RM16) came in a ramekin with puff pastry on top and a side of rocket. Dressing on the salad was a bit sweet for me, ok for my companion. The pie itself, as other commenters have mentioned, is really a bunch of mushroom-chicken-cream soup with puff pastry on top. If you push all the pastry in and eat it together, the overall effect is quite nice, but this isn’t really a pie in the traditional sense and it feels like they took a shortcut. Finally we had the crème brulee — small portion but for the price(RM6) it was more reasonable. Tasty but would have been nice if it were hot instead of cold.

A cosy café in pj. It’s a place you would want to go if you are at lunch peak hours, the shop is located in a quiet area? Thus it’s very easy to find parking. Most of the time when I was there it’s during weekdays lunch hours and there is always parking right in front. I tried the lunch set which comes with a free drink. I ordered the chicken pie and I top up rm3 for an ice Americano. Chicken pie was not really up to my standard. You know the famous pie from Dome? At jeq they too have similar flaky pie crust on top on the porcelain bowl. It’s soft, fragrant with smell of butter and flaky with some crunch on the top. The disappointing part is the filling. To me a pie should be creamy, the sauce should be thick. But this one looks like chicken soup. It’s way too watery to be named chicken pie. Taste wise it’s quite good actually? If it’s name chicken soup, I would agree with it totally! My coffee was so so nothing to shout about at that part. Next we tried the macadamia cheese cake. Pure awesome! They gave a very generous amount of macadamia nuts on top of the cake I love nuts and it goes very well with the cheese cake. I saw they too sell freshly baked bread loaf, that would be my next item to try:)

It’s easy to overlook this newbie at the rows of cafes located at Section 17PJ but Jeq In The House aims to stand out. For starters, there’s a cute vintage bicycle outside the café’s window that will grab anyone’s attention. The interior is equally as quirky as it’s decorated unlike any other café I’ve seen with a touch of vintage. The staff are mostly Filipinos who speak English and it was easy to communicate with them. Complimentary water is provided but upon request. The food menu is pretty limited however with a safe selection of pasta and sandwiches, nothing out of the ordinary. I parked myself on their couch one lazy sunday afternoon and the music belting out from their sound system was so soothing. It was only then did I notice this café has an excellent sound system and it’s clear they invested a big amount in equipping the café with good speakers. That’s something rare that you won’t find at other cafes.

JEQ in the House is a new player in Seksyen 17. The café is located along the same row as The Humble Pie and The Grind. During my first visit, I only had the coffee. Frankly, I felt the coffee was ok but not very outstanding. If you are looking to just have a cup of coffee with nice environment and friendly staffs, then JEQ in the House would be a good choice. My second visit to JEQ in the House was during lunch time. They have set lunch on weekdays and it comes with a drink. You can top of extra RM3 for a cup of coffee. The set lunch starts at 12:30pm, and since we were there before that I decided to go for their all-day breakfast. They have about 5 breakfast choices and the Volcano Egg(RM16) looked very interesting to me. I was very happy when I saw my egg dish. It reminded me of the Egg Surprise I had in LaFite. I believe the egg was soufflé as it was light and airy but the yolk was runny. The egg was pretty bland by its own, so I would advice to eat it together with the turkey ham. Pair it with the bread or croissant on the side to give the fluffy egg some texture. If you like pastry and creamy dish, the try the Chicken Pot Pie(RM15.90). The portion is just nice, unless you are a big eater. The gravy is creamy and flavourful. Not a fan of cream? The Roulade Chicken Spaghetti was decent too, although I would prefer the tomato sauce to be less acidic. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch at JEQ in the House. Although they do not have an extensive food menu, but so far the food we had were good. I would definitely be back again to try their other dishes.

One of the newest café to open in Section 17, Jeq In The House is located along the same row as the famous Strangers at 47 and Kanna Curry House. To say that the competition is stiff is an understatement but after a visit there, I believe they can hold their own. Aside from the obligatory cakes and coffee, Jeq also serves substantial meals like pasta and salads. The chicken salad I had was really good. Ample serving of grilled chicken with a sort of citrus dressing made it a delight. My friends too enjoyed their meal so I would say that they have very good options. I like the cozy feel they have, feels like a cabin with the wooden furnishings. I would come back here again to try their cakes. The server was nice enough to point out which cakes were fresh and which were popular so service wise pretty good. Overall, Jeq In The House is a nice to place to unwind with or without friends. The only downside so far is that parking is a pain.
