The Humble Pie Co

— Had durian cake there, by far the best durian product I’ve had. Although I generally don’t trust durian products so it’s a small sample overview.
— Nutella chocolate cake (~ RM 10) — 2.5÷5 not cake-​iah enough, could use more Nutella.
— Flat white ¹⁄₅ — bitter, coarse. Too hot.
— Latte 1.5÷5 — slightly easier to drink than Flat White. But overall was not pleasant.
— Chairs and set up. Comfy and cozy. Unfortunately the store is small and I was cranky. Chairs are plastic and comfortable. There are some tables by the corner, comfy chairs, quiet hidden place to do work.
— Outside seating is friendly and spacious.

Enough of cakes, this time I am going to talk about pies! And this is none other than the humble pie, yeah!
Ok, lame so anyways, I recently went to Humble Pie Co to check out if they are just as good as It is a Pie Thing.
Feeling really full from dinner, I only had the durian pie. The durian taste was really strong though I personally do not like to eat durians that are mixed with anything else. Besides durian pies, they also serve banoffe pies, banana pies and spread of cakes as well.
The prices are between RM 10 — RM 15, slightly on the pricey side.
The overall setting of the place is conducive. A customer even brought her dog along, so I would assume they area pet friendly café.

I expected for a variety of pies but I was disappointed to know that they do not focus on pies. It is like an average café with some specialty. One of it, it their durian pie and the other is their Haegan Daz milkshake.
So I decided to try this place after dinner one night. I took their durian pie and Haegan Daz vanilla milkshake.
I must say both were really good. I could really taste the durian in the pie while the milkshake was really made from Haegan Daz ice-​cream. There’s a specific vanilla flavour from Haegan Daz and I could taste it.
It was really good.
The only annoying thing that another customer brought her dog and it was barking a lot. I don’t blame the shop nor the dog.

The Humble Pie is a small café located at section 17 Petaling Jaya, at the opposite row of Kanna’s Curry House. Though the parking space is limited, it’s worth a try for (you guessed it) their pies.
Though the café doesn’t only serve pies but it has their own menu of savory dishes, cakes and drinks.
Let’s jump to their pies shall we, for those durian lovers their musang king pie which is a durian and toffee combination that hits the right spot as it is not too overpowering but still retain its flavor.
Although if you’re not, they have a scrumptious banoffee pie which is made from bananas fresh off the market, drenched in toffee sauce and topped with vanilla whipped cream and generously dusted with coffee powder. The pies are quite a small portion but one would still be able to share it.
The exterior is a striking orange color that sparked my interest with a very inviting minimalist interior. The space is small yet spacious, it creates a good ambiance to enjoy good conversation accompanied by even better dessert.

The Humble Pie Co. is located at SS17, Petaling Jaya. Seriously, it is a place that you will have difficulty in finding parking, regardless weekdays or weekend. Still, people come over to The Humble Pie Co. because of its well-​known delicious banoffee pie. However, we were unlucky when we headed to there. The banoffee pie was not available.
It was a cozy and relaxing to stay at, if you forgot the parking issue. All pastries and cakes were baked by the owner, Eugene. And he always insists in using the best ingredients to serve his customers; so, all pastries and cakes were delectable!
I ordered their pasta, it was recommended by the crew. It was my first time trying out pesto rigati. It was sweet-​smelting. The presentation of food was nice. Of course, not only it looks nice, it taste great too. However, I wasn’t able to finish the entire plate. It was too big portion for me. We tried their cheesecake too. Simplicity is the best. It was soft and tasty. Overall, It was a satisfying dining at The Humble Pie Co. I will definitely return to try out their banoffee pie.

Besides A Pie Thing being so popular, this is another place to come and try the no– overrated pies.
Who will not LOVE TH banoffee & durian-​toffee pies! The cream on top looks like it is perfectly handmade whipped into perfection, perfect balance of sweetness and not too sweet. I love the pie how they are freshly baked on the bottom. The interior of the place is orange, black and wood, very unique from other café’s who does wood all the way, this place is very eye — catching and perfect for tea time.
My favourite it the ‘The Humblest Cheesecake’ (RM10.50+) and Earl Grey & chocolate
Outdoor Seating — Yes

I first paid a visit to this place when they just opened for business and the menu only consisted of a few items on the board. I went with the chicken liver which turned out to be a bad choice as the portion was pretty small and I didn’t really enjoy the chicken liver served chilled with slices of toasted bread.
However, I had a better experience with their dessert — the banoffee pie. I’m not usually a big fan of banoffee pie but this one won me over. It was so fresh from the digestive biscuits base to the cream topping to the bananas inside. I’ve tried banoffee pies from other cafes but this has got to be the best i’ve tasted that I always make it a point to order one when I come over.
After they expanded their menu, I had the pesto pasta which was also executed well, plenty of pesto with generous shavings of parmesan cheese on my penne. I added chicken inside as well and this has also become a staple dish of mine at this café. Seats are limited so it might be difficult to get a spot during weekends especially when the brunch crowd pours in. They adopt a semi self service concept where you order at the counter and food will be served to your table.

If you ever get sudden cravings for pies, you can always depend on The Humble Pie Co. You can find it sitting along the same row as Kanna Curry House. I’ve never been a pie fan but I find that I’ve been able to appreciate it now with the appearance of this neighborhood spot.
Their eye catching coral-​coloured fittings did the job of peaking my curiosity. And following the same trend as other independent eateries in the area, it is designed minimally with functional furniture (alhough the giant whisks doubling as hanging lamps are pretty cute). Obviously your main focus should be on the pies. Rightfully so.
To the cheers of durian lovers, their standout pie is the Duffee Pie. A twist of the Banoffee pie, you’ll find durian instead of banana. I’m surprised no one has thought of it earlier; for Malaysians this is a another way for us to indulge in the natural sweetness of the thorny fruit. Generally speaking, the pies are very good no matter the toppings. This can be attributed to its digestives biscuits base. I can only assume that the baker has found the secret to baking it to perfection.
I’d normally drop by the Humble Pie after my lunch from Kanna, but you can find fulfilling meals at Humble Pie too.

The café is located along the row as Kanna Curry House at Seksyen 17, same block as the police station. It’s very easy to spot the café — drive past Kanna Curry House and look out for a bright coral colour shop. Even though there were name «The Humble Pie», they offer main courses too.
We were recommended to try their Banoffee Pie — digestive biscuits topped with generous chunks of bananas soaked in toffee sauce, light whipped cream and sprinkled with coffee powder. It’s perfect for me — wasn’t too sweet and a good choice to savour over a cup of coffee. Although the pie was good, I can’t say the same to the coffee. We had a Iced Latte which was really diluted and a very average Hot Mocha.
Would I be going back to the café again? Probably not anytime soon unless I’m having really bad cravings for their Banoffee Pie.

Section 17 adds another café/​restaurant to its already broad list. Originally starting as an online pastry store, the humble pie has blossomed into a full-​fledged artisanal café with a homemade quality feel of desserts that leaves one salivating for more. Little DIY touches such as using whisks as lamps showcase a little creativity that has become somewhat mandatory in today’s line of artisanal cafes. Its signature Banoffee pie (RM12), which comes from the amalgamation of the word toffee and banana is a delight to the senses, with chunks of banana, whipped cream and finished with a doused of coffee powder. Sinfully tasty, I gain a certain amount of reprieve from the fact there’s banana in it for my potassium needs. With a fair selection of mains such as pasta and roast chicken, the humble pie may want to step up its pie game’s lacking variety, especially with a name that promotes an emphasis on pies
