Won’t say Café 9 is an authentic Thai restaurant because they serve food that is not from Thailand. However, they are trying to cook food in Thai style. And that’s why Café 9 is a taste of Thai. For example, their oxtail soup. You won’t find it in Thai cuisine. But, it taste very similar to Thai soup. The spicy level is super duper high although the boss told us they have lower down almost 9 levels of spicy from the original Thai food. I personally love their classic Phad Thai much. According to Danny, Café 9’s Phad Thai is the one that have the most similar taste to the one he had in Thailand before. Their tom yam was really great. Smell it before you taste it. I recommend you to sip it and feel it when it passes through your throat. The spice was so stimulating! If you are rushing for meeting after lunch or dinner, Café 9 is highly recommended! Because the chef cooks really fast! Imagine more than 10 meals were served in half an hour? That is amazing! Next time, if you want to have a taste of Thai, don’t hesitate to visit Café 9!

I came across Café 9 just because the place I wanted to have Thai food was closed that night. It is situated quite remotely in PJ but if you know where is Kanna Curry House and A Humble Pie, you will not have a problem looking for it. Service here was good, the owner checked up on my table to see if everything was okay and if we needed more rice. However, the food was a little let down. The green curry chicken was quite diluted, and has very little chicken. The tomyam, well, let’s say it wasn’t the best but it did pack a punch of spiciness. I find the food there rather pricey and I do not think it worth the price to the amount.

If you are familiar with Kanna Curry House, then you’ll realize the row of shops have been operating for quite some time. Café 9 is one of the eateries that have been operating at the area roughly 2 years ago. Although it’s called«Café 9», it’s not a café at all. In fact, it is a full fledge Thai restaurant with very clean and bright interior. My friends and I went to Café 9 to have a farewell dinner. Without knowing what to expect, we ordered a few dishes to try. We were served with a little cup of soup that tasted very much like tom yum, but without the spiciness. For starter, we had the Mango Salad — shredded mangoes, onions, peanuts, prawns, dash of lime juice and a hint heat. Overall, the salad was ok but it could use a little bit more heat to bring out the flavours. It’s a must to order when we are in Thai restaurant, so we decided on the Red Tom Yum Soup. The portion was quite small and it was just enough to be shared among 6 of us. The ingredients were fresh but the soup wasn’t as spicy as we would like, but the balance of spicy and sour was just nice. The Green Curry Chicken was average too. Although the chicken was cooked well, but the gravy was lacking in some fragrance of the coconut milk. Compared to the others, the Minced Chicken with Long Beans was not too bad. The dish was well-cooked but some might find it to be slightly too salty. However, it’s just nice if you have a bowl of white rice to go with. Overall, the dishes were ok but I felt there are other better Thai restaurants around. However, the food would be perfect for those who can’t take spicy food because all of our food was lacking in some spiciness.
