John’s is my favorite pizza joint in NYC. Way better then the other legendary old school spots, Lombardi’s and Grimaldi’s. Decent sized and good amount of seating. Service is friendly. Pizza comes out quick. Gets really busy during lunch. I always try to come before the lunch rush. Very old school décor, probably the same stuff they had when they opened way back when. Large Pizza w/Pepperoni, Peppers, & Mushrooms — $ 20 + $ 12($ 4 each topping) — I love the crispy thin crust. I have not found anywhere else that can compare. The tomato sauce is clean and simple. Toppings are typical. The slices are huge. That crust just makes this pizza so great.

No# 144 is off the bucket List I bookmarked this place two years ago and finally made it. It was worth the wait. Here is what you need to know… Small, Authentic NYC pizzeria Thin & crispy, great sauce to dough ratio Great sauce again with a perfect ration to toppings and dough Flavorful toppings. Fresh veggies. This place is why the rest of the country envies New York Pizza

I’ve been here about 30 times in the last 10 years, and on 6÷24÷2016, I was there again. But this time… perhaps I am mistaken… I think they re-heated a whole pizza pie(instead of a hot one from scratch). I suspect this because I’ve been there many many times, and it’s always great. But this time, the pizza was lukewarm(you know when the cheese not bubbling). The crust was hard, and overly chewy. This pizza on 6÷24÷2016 was definitely different from the past few times. I will continue to go to John’s because I luv their pizza, but this time… it was just different. I do hope I am mistaken.

It’s ok. I’ve had better. Looks better than it tastes… I did like the crust, the sauce lacked flavor I added a dash of salt and it made a huge difference. We waited in like for about 20 – 30 min and we’re a bit disappointed. the fact that there are no slices kinda sucks.

John’s is one of those pizza joints comparable to the likes of Lombardi’s, Grimaldi’s, and Arturo’s. All these places serve pretty good pizza: I don’t think you would be disappointed if you came here. That being said, the real star of the show was the meatball parm! Absolutely delicious. Would recommend the sub over the pizza.

The pizza here is as good as a pizza can be without blowing you away. The crust is fantastic(the perfect combination of crispy and chewy), there’s plenty of cheese and high-quality toppings; it’s without a doubt a solid pizza place and a pizza you’d be thrilled to stumble upon if you came in here hungry without expectations. John’s of Bleecker is, however, regarded very highly, and is mentioned on a lot of lists for the best pizza of the country. I don’t think it quite lives up to those lofty standards. The pizza lacks a depth of flavor in the sauce. I like a bit of a tangy punch that keeps me coming back for another slice even after I’m incredibly full. The slices here taste like cheese, sauce, grease, crust and whatever toppings you ordered, which are all great things to be sure, but not quite a next-level pizza(in a city with many pies that are). But by any other standard though, this a great pizza spot.

Great spot. i’m giving Johns 4.5 stars. I made this our May stop for our monthly Ahbeetz night. If any of you are Italians from the City you’ve heard people in your Family refer to pizza as Ahbeetz. The Restaurant is nothing fancy but I like that about it. Service was great(especially when we had a spillage). Coal Oven which is a favorite of mine. They have your basic toppings which served us well. This had to be one of the best texture doughs I have had. Cooked to a perfect Crisp. The sauce was great as well. To me the key foundation of any pizza is the dough and sauce. We started with a large pie(sausage and ricotta on half, pepperoni on the other half). Delicious! Perfect balance, some places load too much on the pizza making it a mess. This was perfect balance making it easy to hold and a clean sweep . Sausage was delicious w the ricotta, pepperoni as well. Second pie was Meatballs and mushrooms which was also great. 4 or 5 beers on tap and wine by the glass. I highly recommend this if you’re in the hood. There are also a few Record stores close by for any Vinyl Lovers. 4.5 Stars ! I’ll be back

NOSLICES!!! That’s right. When you come here you just don’t want one or two slices. You want more. When this place is on, the game is ON! When it’s not, it’s good but you can always taste the potential for greatness. I had a half cheese and half pepperoni. The service was fast, the food came fast, and it was ready to eat… Great taste in the dough, the ingredients were great, and the ambiance in there is nice and wild. You gotta go if you haven’t been.

Who doesn’t love pizza? And this place is awesome. Many people compare the pizza places around NYC but a coal fired pie is going to taste very different than a traditional oven baked pizza. I’ve been to about a dozen coal fired pizza joints around the country and this place is fantastic. I was completely suprised at the lack of a line around lunch at 12:30 on a Friday. We were seated promptly ordered a medium pie(6 slices) of just a plain cheese pizza. From sit down to pizza on the table was within 15 minutes. It comes out piping hot but once it cools you are biting into one heck of a delicious slice. Just FYI, if you are in NYC and need to grab an epic slice; I’ve been to Joe’s(7 Carmine St) many times, Lombardi’s, Grimaldi’s, and you cannot go wrong with any one of them. There is a reason this place has been around since 1929, they have perfected the coal fired slice and its worth trying. I’ll be back. Notes– They have Pepsi products They now accept credit cards; Visa, Amex, MC, Discover

I have not been here in over a decade and my taste bud memories were intact. I lived a block away and came here to eat from time to time. We’ve been on a pizza quest this year in NYC trying to find the pizza that we like best. Sure, that is quite subjective, but it is a worthy goal. The dough was perfect, no need to cut the pizza like Kasich. The dough was firm when you held a slice and it did not dip. The red sauce was excellent as was the mozzarella. I think my go to will be marinara pie going forward. I want to taste the sauce as most cheese is an after thought to me. The pizza was good, not oily, and had great texture and body.

Only if I can come here every day… John’s of Bleecker is AMAZING. I came here with a coworker during lunch time and we waited less than 5 minutes and we were in and out within an hour. We even had time to stop by next door and get ice cream! We got half plain, half veggie with mushrooms and spinach. I’m a firm believer in trying out the plain cheese slice at any legitimate pizza establishment, and John’s lived up to the hype. Solid thin crust pizza, New York style. Definitely go here. And then go again.

So I guess«Pizza Thursdays» is going to be a real thing for us. Creating new traditions are so fun, especially when it involves a cheesy slice of pizza to look forward to every week! For this week’s Pizza Thursday, the BF chose the classic establishment John’s of Bleecker Street. We went right after work so we had no issues with getting a booth pour deux. We ordered a salad to share and a medium pie — half plain and half with garlic, mushrooms, and black olives. The pizza lacked flavor and was also a bit wet/soggy. Although I respect John’s of Bleecker Street for what it is, it doesn’t compare to other notable pizzas we’ve had so far(Rubirosa, Stromboli’s etc.). Being that we weren’t impressed, we won’t be coming back but we are glad we crossed it off the pizza list.

Stumbled upon this pizza joint because of street closure near another pizza spot I wanted to eat at so my friend and I decided to give it a go, although we didn’t want to purchase a whole pie. We were so glad to choose this place, upon entering you are immediately taken back at least 40 years, by the décor of the place and the picnic(ish) looking booths. We ordered the smallest pie which consists of 6 medium slices with two toppings. We were pleasantly surprised to see a small beer and wine menu which immediately pleased us. I had the cabernet and my friend the stella, for the price we got a good amount of liquids flowing. They had music playing that varied from bebop to 80’s rock music. Overall experience was pleasant, our waiter was attentive and the food hit the spot. Sometimes changing the venue can lead to a very surprisingly nice experience.

Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to review John’s since my visit last month. Unlike another NYC pizza place, this place lived up to the hype. It was crowded but I was quickly seated. Ordered a pie with pepperoni and took over half back to hotel. The crust and cheese and sauce were a tasty explosion of flavors. Great service from the staff. I felt like this was a real NYC experience. Would definitely go back when I’m in NYC.

When I think of NYC pizza, John’s comes to mind. The crust is a bit doughy but still very crunchy, paired with a light and refreshing tomato sauce and high quality melted mozzarella. It’s got a bit of smoke without overwhelming me with burnt flavor. It is perfection in how simple it is. When it comes to toppings, a great pizza like a great burger doesn’t need too much to detract from its essence. In this case, I found that garlic(which is slightly smoother as a result of baking) and roasted tomatoes do the trick. I came in on a Thursday at 6pm and had no wait. My friend and I ordered a medium pie and it was more than enough food for both of us hungry diners. The booths aren’t very comfortable and John’s is cash only(with an ATM just beside the bathrooms), but it’s still highly worth visiting given this is my favorite pizza place in the City.

1÷29÷2016 The last of the 4 pizza places I’ve wanted to visit in New York… Lombardi, Grimaldi and Patsy’s.:. I usually don’t eat at restaurants with«B» rating on their window but I had to visit John’s. The pizza was good but like all of these places they work hard to have bad service. In addition they only accept cash which is amazing to me in this day in age. Can you imagine if they offered great service and accepted credit cards… they might actually do a lot more business then the business they currently do.

Location: Bleecker Street is for tourists who are eagerly to search good quality food in NYC. John’s Pizza is no doubt located here. With long history and its famous pizza, John’s seems to be a plausible place to get your friends who never came to NYC and looked for the best New York Think Pizza. The line is tolerable, aka if you are there, you probably will wait around 7 mins or more. Inside, it was divided by two part. Both have wood chairs which full of some ink marks. Lots of them are involving with LOVE,(someone loves somebody) Well. … Food: the menu is pretty simple — choose the size of pizza, choose your toppings. I ended with extra cheese pizza. Well, I would say, it is mediocre. Nothing special, nothing bad. It is just average. Service: it’s cash only place. Luckily, they have ATM inside. There is no service at all but it is a pretty chilly environment to grab a bite with a New New Yorker. Overal: it’s just for tourists… I, personally, not an entire pizza lover, probably won’t come back for a while.

Where does a NYer even begin when reviewing John’s of Bleeker Street?! Well for starters if you are anywhere within two blocks of this place you will smell it and you will know that heaven is within reach. John’s is a classic that has been operating since 1929. From the outside you can tell something special is going on behind those doors. John’s brings back so many good memories for me and a lot of this has to do with my father’s love and admiration for John’s that has been installed in me since I can remember. It is the only place that is cash only that I don’t even mind because it is just so good. The inside is pretty much covered in wood, from the booths to the floors and is adorned with carved graffiti. But now onto the good stuff… the pizza. Thin crust, coal fire oven, delicious. that is all you need to know. The menu is limited consisting of a house salad option, sausage and meatballs, four types of pastas, a calzone and fourteen toppings to add to your pie. They also serve beer and wine which is nice. Overall, John’s is an awesome place to go for lunch or dinner. Whether you want to eat out before hitting the MANY bars and clubs in the area or you need somewhere to enjoy a delicious classic AND affordable NY meal, John’s is definitely a go to. THINGSTOKNOW: Cash only, ATM on site, NO slices, NO reservations, Offers Take-Out.

You may have to wait for a bit in a rather lengthy line, but they’re quick with turnaround, and their cheese pizza is one of the best I’ve ever had. Fold it up NY style, wash it down with a root beer, order yourself some salad first so you don’t feel like a hot disgusting mess when you’re through, and you’re living life right.

John’s of Bleecker Street has been serving pizza since 1929. No slices. Cash only. Names carved into booths and pictures everywhere. This is what attracted me. Any place that can exist in Manhattan for nearly 90 years serving the same pie must be worth a shot. It is just ok. This pains me to say, because I had such high hopes. The crust has a nice char which is just crisp enough. The sauce was unmemorable. My wife and I split a pizza: one side was pepperoni and sliced meatball(traditional), the other pepperoni and ricotta(something different). The cheese was good and gooey. The meatballs were bland, and the pepperoni overly greasy. The staff are running around like mad, so they only come for your order, your food, and the check. I respect John’s history, but not enough to go back.

I know that Johns is part of the great«pizza» debate of NYC. I’ve walked by this place many times and have always seen a long line. While investigating the seafood place next door tonight, my brother and I noticed«said» line was no where to be seen. We decided to make this the night we finally tried a pie from John’s. I have eaten at Arturos before on Houston and know that the joints are similar. We ordered a pie with sliced tomatoes, sausage and ricotta cheese. The service was fast, as I expected with the flow of traffic coming and going. The pizza was AWESOME. My brother told me he prefers Arturos because the slices here drip a littel bit more and are a litlte thinner. However, I savored every single bite of the pizza. It was extremely fresh and I can’t remember the last time I felt so content after a meal. Something about creating your own pie, like customizing a car or a suit to your tastes is tough to duplicate. I’m not a huge pizza guy. I like the occasional slice, but I know that if someone asked me for the best pie in Manhattan, i’d return here in the 10 minutes it would take me to walk over.

Have always wanted to swing by here and got my shot today, pays to want to eat at 6 pm in the city, all though was just one table left on the inside. Mostly booths in the corners and some tables in the middle, a very typical New york city pizza joint appearance. We decided to order a pie with fresh tomatoes, ricotta cheese, and sausage. After only a short 10 minute wait the food came out and boy did it meet expectations! It was thin crusted with a savory sauce and lots of drippy ricotta cheese, I had some of the tomatoes and ricotta falling off as I ate it, but from the first to last slice I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. As I left I saw a line forming already at 7 pm. Was this the best slice ive had in NYC? Well, it certainly was up there and for the village competes neck and neck with Arturros, this place may win the taste award by a whisker though. I shall return and spread the good gospel about Johns though :).

Great spot for late night pizza. Be warned you have to order a whole pie so make sure you are ready to eat. Thin crust heaven for those who favor thin over thick. The slices are a good size. I was able to finish 3 slices in one sitting. My criticism would be around the cheese to sauce ratio. I am a huge fan of cheesy pizza even though I’m lactose intolerant and probably shouldn’t be. Additionally i think the tables could have had some side toppings such as oregano and peppers.

Got here close to opening for lunch during the week. We sat in a booth that was almost too small to get into and from the small menu we ordered the meatballs, which everyone seems to rave about, a salad, and a medium pie with ground sausage. The meatballs did not live up to Macaluso(Miami Beach) or Raos(Las Vegas) standards but were still pretty good, the salad was the usual pizza parlor standard, the pie was a nice thin crust that was great but not necessarily to die for. Very glad to have gone there, not a place I am dying to go back to. The best part is just being in a place from 1929. There are so many carvings on the booths and walls it is hard to read any of the graffiti and the cash only service seems expected in a place like this.

Very Good The wooden booths covered with old scribbled grafitti, the humble exterior hides the fact this place has excellent pizza. Super thin crust almost justifies me putting away half a large. Where do you go when you’re craving classic NY pie and you’re only in town for a night? John’s, of course! Thin discs of super hot, cheesy, charred dough. They don’t skimp on sauce, either. Hubs and I scarfed a whole large pizza all by ourselves. If we would’ve skipped the beer, we could’ve done more. Oink, oink. There’s a reason this place has been around since 1929! I’ve got to stop writing now… I’m drooling and it will be a while until I can get my next fix. Also, I saw other reviews complaining of the service? Really? It’s a pie joint! I finally stopped by John’s of Bleecker after numerous attempts. Each time I tried coming here, there was a huge line. After being seated, the menu is very simple. Soda/Beer/Water for drinks and pizza(of course)/calzones/pasta. We got meatball and onions for one pie and pepperoni and sausage for the other. The plus about John’s is everything is made fresh. We were lucky enough to be seated near the oven and see everything get made. Getting the pizza delivered, it’s steaming hot and everything look beautiful. Upon my first bite, what I thought might be the best pizza in the world fell short of expectations. Again, I probably overhyped it in my head. Cheese and meats have a unique flavor to each, but I would recommend the meatballs. I think these are the house’s special, I’ve had nothing like these meatballs on pizza. Sauce has a sweet tangy-ness to them. If you want authentic NY pizza and made fresh I would recommend John’s.

Just like ice cream, I’m never ever impressed by pizza. I’m a New Yorker and it’s literally everywhere. There’s probably a pizza place in my bedroom being built right now, seriously a dime a dozen. My friend visited me in the city for the day, and after the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed for lunch, she pointed out this place. *UGH* ROLLSEYES, Why pizza? You can get it anywhere! We began wondering about the«no slices» sign and decided to go in. We were greeted by a staff member and taken to a room towards the back. The staff is polite and helpful, but definitely give off a Goodfellas vibe, less is more when it comes to talking. We settled on a pie with sausage and peppers. Nothing I’m about to write does this pie any justice, but it was the most tasteful and delicious pizza I think I’ve ever had. We pretty much finished the entire pie, and I’m not crazy about pizza. Perfect pizza in every way. Carvings. Carvings everywhere. On every booth, table, pole, there are carvings of names. We started whispering about how we were going to stealthily carve our names on the table when we were informed by a server that it was perfectly fine to carve our names anywhere, it’s not against the rules. WHAT! How awesome is that?! We had such a fun time doing this using our fork and knife, some people get really intricate with their designs too! Still laugh about my friend standing on her chair and carving her name into a pole in the middle of the restaurant! Oddly enough, I had no idea how famous this place is, AND it was rated the number 10 pizza place in the country on Travel Advisor. Due to the fact that we went so early to lunch on a weekday, there was no wait. I love this pizza! Of course I would come back here!

Our friend recommended that we try John’s pizza – I hadn’t heard of it before visiting, but after reading several articles about the best pizza in NYC, it has come up a lot. There was a good sized line around 6pm on a Saturday evening. I was surprised by how quickly it moved, and we were probably only waiting for about 30 minutes or so. Our party of four was seated at a very tiny table and was greeted by a pretty gruff server. I think the place is just so crowded that the servers don’t really have time to have a personality. We ordered one pie with basil on the whole thing and half pepperoni and half ricotta. The pizza is made in a coal fire oven and is pretty thin, so it is not the most filling of pizzas. It had good flavor and hit the spot because I was starving by the time our pizza came out. I would say John’s had a good pizza, but was I blown away, no. There are so many pizza places in NYC that I wonder if it really is worth the hype.

Look: I don’t know what’s going on with John’s: there are now«John’s of ____» all over the city, and even this beloved original has conformed its menu to the other locations(Bleeker’s used to be the best with dozens of pre-designed pies under $ 20, not $ 3 per item). And don’t even get me started on the«cash only» policy — in a world of apple pay and Bitcoin, it’s not quaint or adorable to deal only in filthy paper money. Guess tax evasion is a hard habit to break. But the fact remains: if you want the most authentic NYC pizza, you won’t find it at Keste or Motorino(both are excellent, but in different ways). It’s got to be John’s for me every trip, and it’s got to be on Bleeker. Seriously though John: take a credit card, please!

So fühlt sich NY-Style Pizza essen also an.
