Service was slow. Bunch of kids who seem like this is their first job. Food was tasty though. My main problem with this place is cleanliness. From the salsa station to the employees appearance to the moist tabletops, the place is just dirty. I don’t think I’ll be going back. I don’t want to get sick. And its just gross. I really hope management sees this and takes care of it, because I did enjoy my quesadilla.

After hearing about this place having the best burritos ever, my husband and I drove the 25 minutes to check it out. Upon arriving, we noticed no seats available inside which seemed like a good sign. I ordered the chicken fajita burrito. I got excited when I saw them make the tortilla fresh. My burrito was alright. Nothing too exciting. I was really underwhelmed. My husband didn’t like his either. It was bland and the rice tasted old. The salsa bar was lacking. No hot sauce which is odd because it’s called Habaneros. Now we went to sit outside but the tables were gross. The bathrooms were gross. I just felt dirty in here. So disappointed. Wish this place was as awesome as we had heard.

I’m sorry but this was gross. My burrito was lukewarm at best, the queso tastes like. .well nothing, literally it has no taste, and they were out of salsa, sprite, mushrooms and ice… I am not sure if perhaps I came on a bad day, but it was absolutely the worst build your own burrito experience I have ever had :/

5: Food — BYOB(fajita steak, Spanish rice, re-fried beans, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, Monterrey jack cheese, hot sauce, dash of Habanero sauce) is my usual order and it’s fantastic ^_^ 5: Service — Friendly and attentive service. 5: Ambiance — Casual. Free WiFi is always a plus. 4: Cleanliness — My friend had to wipe off the table we were at, since it was not cleaned yet. *Experience — Dine-in

Pro: Good location with out door patio Was quickly seated on a Friday night I can’t think of another one, I tried really hard on the first two. Con:(will try to keep it to three) Food could be comparable to Taco Bell nothing unique — when asked for hot sauce all they have was Tabasco. Considering the name you think they would have something good. After seated, no one came out to greet us to take our order for over 10, later to fine out they completely forgot. Overall experience was not pleased at all. Would not recommend.

Similar to a Freebirds or Moes, but the taste and freshness of Hab’s is the game changer. This place has some delicious & seriously massive burritos made with fresh tortillas and well-seasoned fajita meats. What more could you ask for? That specialty queso to go on your burrito… that’s what you can ask for.

Imagine three brothers, born of hippie parents. The first brother grew up as the responsible one. He always believed in clean food that tasted good and was sourced from local farmers. Nutrition, small business, and quality were of the upmost importance to him, and from his hand Chipotle was born. The middle brother was always something of a rebel but only because of his love of punk rock. He was fun, got a nose piercing, wore his hair in a mohawk, dyed it green, but always respected Chipotle and went on to be very much like him with a rock and roll flair. He would be called Freebirds. The third brother was a bit of a loser. Despite his elder brothers trying to include him he would only half listen, answering most of their questions with an unenthusiastic shrug. Sure, he’d cook, but it was usually just grilled cheese and there was never really enough. Nothing was really said to him because they were worried he’d just get depressed. His name was Habaneros Grill. You can see the family resemblance to his older brothers but just barely. There was something to be said about him pressing dough in to a tortilla in front of you, however when you start with your best move first, you’re going to leave your audience underwhelmed.

If you’re in the area stop by! It was a very delicious, quick little lunch. I love the wheat tortillas and the chips! They also have some yummy salsas to choose from, I tried a sweet one:)!

My husband and I were huge fans of this place until these past few months. We stopped in 3 months ago and the place was pretty dead. We didn’t think much of it and ordered our usual burritos. It tasted bland and not up to the standards that we remembered. So we gave them another shot yesterday and it hasn’t changed but only to taste even worse than before. My chicken was dry and the beans needed salt. My husbands streak fajita was chewy. Plus the salsa area had fruit flies hovering around… gross. We won’t be heading there anymore… which is sad because they had some damn good burritos back in the day.

This is one of our favorite places to eat! Hubby loves the cheesy beef burrito and their nachos are awesome! Their queso is AMAZING! You can smother your favorite burrito with the queso! NOM! They don’t make the tortillas til your order them and you can choose white or wheat tortillas. I am extremely picky when it comes to refried beans and theirs are very good. They also have a «Mexican ranch» dressing that is great on/with everything! Don’t want a huge burrito? They’ll make it a kid size for you! Love this place!

I go here sometimes for lunch because it’s so close to my work. I would recommend the pork nachos. You will get a LOT of food for your money plus you don’t have to pay for the sour cream. Oh and try the honey jalapeño salsa, I’m sure after one bite you’ll be addicted to it like I am!

The Quick & Dirty: If you love Chipotle or Free Birds, this is a down grade. This place is not terrible but it’s also not great by any means. The service is usually quick and lines are typically short but the food itself leaves you feeling like something was, well… missing. You get to assemble your burrito as you’re used to by now from the type of tortilla you want to the meat and everything in between. For me, the seasonings used on virtually everything I’ve tried has seemed either muted or non-existent. This is a huge negative for me because when I think burrito, I think FLAVOR! The place is small and the staff makes you feel welcome(most of the time) so they lose no points in these areas but at the end of the day, ALL UnilocalERS go for the food so proceed knowing you won’t be WOW’d by any means.

I guess I’m not really sold on Habanero’s, even though I want so badly to like it. The choices aren’t there, the value certainly isn’t, and the freshness and quality can’t make up for those two points. Take, for instance, their daily specials. One day, Wednesday I think is taco day. You get two tacos with a thimble of queso, a dozen or so chips, and a pop for seven bucks. I’m not embellishing the lack of quantity here. Anything beyond the standard chicken/beef, lettuce and tomato is extra. Want peppers? Fifty cents. Grilled onions or sour cream? That’ll be extra too. Would you like carnitas instead of the beef/or chicken? Tough shit, beef or chicken only. I’ll stick to Freebirds.

In a city with seemingly an endless supply of Mexican-type restaurants, Habaneros delivers a relatively consistent product each and every time. The first thing to note about Habaneros is that it is in-line with Freebird World Burrito, Chipotle, and the such. Based on this, this review will not be quite as extensive as my previous reviews since there isn’t too much to say about this type of restaurant. Food: I have been here twice. The first time we had a giant order of nachos, and when I say ‘giant’, I seriously mean GIANT. It fed the three of us and all of us were quite full afterwards. Everything from the chips to the toppings were fresh and tasted great – this is half of the reason why we were able to finish the entire plate. The queso was creamy, perfectly spicy, and had a great balance of saltiness. I have found some quesos to leave a strange after-taste – this one was entirely pleasant. Another reason why this plate of nachos was so damn good was a result of the person we had making the nachos – but that is for the service part. The next time we went, we all had burritos. Like I said above, this place is on par with Chipotle and Freebird. Though, for my dollar and taste-buds, Freebirds is still the clear winner in terms of burritos for me – I would even give Chipotle an edge over Habaneros – slightly. Despite that, this is a great choice for this type of cuisine though – and I will return for the food. Food: 4⁄5 Service: Each time we have gone to Habaneros we have had really great service. The first time we had a dude who was very generous with the toppings on our nachos, and he was a pleasant dude to talk to as well. I have found with establishments such as this, the better you act and the more conversational you are with the people preparing your food, the more generous they are and the better they prepare everything. I don’t blame them though, I used to be in the Services Industry and felt the same way. Service: 4⁄5 Atmosphere & Price: Typical type atmosphere for this type of joint – rather standard. Price is also quite in-line with establishments of the sort as well. I had no complaints about either of these categories; but nothing stood-out for me either. Atmosphere & Price: 3⁄5 Final Thoughts: This is a solid place to get some quick and good Mexican fare. Though there are other places I would go to first(Freebird) for this type of fare, I do recommend this whole-heartedly if you are in the area.

I was not at all in the mood to try this place, even after my girlfriend insisted I would like it; my taste buds and stomach were feeling something else, so you could easily say I wasn’t entering the establishment with the perception of an impending mind-blowing experience. But… within minutes I was easily finding myself eager to order. Easily compared to its competitors Freebirds and Chipotle, Habanero’s has a quality neither of those posses – quality! With freshly grilled chicken breast, fresh salsa bar, delicate and delicious tortillas, truly warm chips, how could you not love this eatery? The staff is patient, personable and enjoyable – I didn’t feel rushed ordering and when I changed my mind 5 different times the sweet guy behind the counter didn’t lose his cool as I tried to narrow down my choices filling out my gringa-rito. A major plus and a jump on the competition as I always feel rushed at Freebirds. Our group tried it all, from the amazing quesadillas to a randomly constructed burrito all for which garner a 5-star review, plus they’re Unilocal-friendly and were offering check-in offers! They also have daily specials which are listed above the order here area and on a large sign next to the wall-o-menus, which is something the competition lacks. We spent less than $ 14.00 on two full size-belly fulfilling meals, plus the free chips/queso for checking in, which is a fair rate with how stuffed these burrito’s/quesadillas were. The atmosphere is fun, clean, not the mention the walls have interesting art work that will keep your eyes busy as your mouth devours the meal you order, the bathrooms are clean as can be, there is even a place to eat outside.

I often struggle with conveying a message via online text versus face to face. My obsession with the burritos at Habs provides added incentive for me to see Habs succeed. Again, I really like Steve and believe that he is working his tail off to make both locations succeed. Additionally, it appears that my concerns have NOT fallen on deaf ears. It also appears that I didn’t handle my concerns in the manner that I would want them handled were I the business owner. So, for that, I extend an apology to Steve and the rest of the staff that I’ve grown to enjoy over the years. Having tried Habs recently, I can now say that things have taken a turn for the better. The food speaks for itself. I challenge ANYONE to find a better burrito, better salsa, or better chips. It’s hard to do as they are great at Habs. All that being said, I’m definitely still a fan, so I’ll rate it as such.

I think I’m a bit spoiled by all the Mission Taquerias available in SF. Whenever I can’t find anything to eat, a burrito always hits the spot! So on my recent visit to San Antonio, it took a bit of searching to find a place that looked as if it would match the type that I’m used to. The veggie burrito was actually pretty good. Something in the burrito had a bit of Asian-fusion flavor to it. A nice change of pace. Made in the Chipotle style but better than Chipotle. I would appreciate if the Vegan burrito automatically came with avocado without charging extra since there’s there’s not much else in it. I always knock off a star for places that don’t include free chips with your meal. Although you do get chips thanks to the Unilocal check-in offer. Service was«meh» but what can you expect from HS kids? The salsas at the salsa bar were some of the best I’ve had. The standouts for me were the verde & the smoky deep red salsa. These additions made up for the lack of complimentary chips since they were so good. I would definitely return here if I find myself back in San Antonio again. Perhaps next time I may check out the seasonal«Hab’s Salad» which looked pretty tasty from the menu description.
