5 stars for the service and pizza. Been here a few times now and have had great service every time. I appreciate the laid back atmosphere and to be honest the bowling is a side dish to the main course… food, drinks(brewery) and service. If you are a serious bowler you probably need to look elsewhere. Like serious golfers probably don’t go to Top Golf to get their PGA groove on, I wouldn’t come here looking for your first 300. Now… lets get to the unexpected gastronomic jewel otherwise known as the pizza. One of our visits was just for pizza. It’s that good. I consider myself a bit of a pizza snob… it’s the NJ in me, but this is one fine pie. I put it right up there with Fralos and Sorentos, two of my San Antonio favorites. Superb crust, sauce and toppings. Consider the bowling exercise and grab an extra slice.

Go to BOWLERO. Again. Seriously with the service. Taylor the bartender is great and spot on. She is the only reason this place gets any stars. OUTOFALLDRAFTS. We were greeted with — do you have a reservation? With plenty blank empty lanes. No, which is fine we will go and grab dinner. We come back and there are still blacked out lanes. Yet they find a place for us. Now we bowl for over two hours and NOSERVERSHOWS. We had to get our own drinks. Again, which is fine. However, no one was actively busing tables, attentively waiting on patrons. The manager WILL stood around with other employees or friends. Once the complaint was voiced, the manager hid around and never approached our table. He’s a wuss. This is unacceptable for the amount of money you charge and zero service.

Nice place to visit. Food OK but small portions and over priced. Bowling is per hour cost not per game. Expensive. I would not go back.

Overpriced garbage! Service sucks! We want for a birthday party it took 45 minutes to get a beer that I and the pizza and chicken meat balls took way too long for what it was. Chicken was over cooked and pizza was undercooked. Gross. I had one beer because the server never came back around to ask if I wanted another one. Way under staffed. Will not be returning to this place. Better bowling and pricing at other places. The menu is hard to read too with no organization to it there is just random options over all over it. Great idea but horrid follow through and design.

Had a gathering for my soccer team here, I made a reservation for it. The place was great at dealing with a crowd. Set up to be a much more social way to experience bowling. If you are an avid bowler you may not care for the lanes or the pins being on strings, but for my social gathering which included a lot of food and drinks it was the perfect ambiance.

This is an event oriented venue. If you are a bowler and want to bowl… you will be annoyed. If you are with a group for an event(birthday party, night out with friends, a date, ect.) …and another event is in the lane next to you encroaching on your lane and back table… drooling on your pizza… you will be annoyed. When your lane shuts down at the end of your paid time with unfinished games… and the next group scheduled for your lane is waiting for you to get movin’ on out… you will be annoyed. If you are logical and can’t figure why anyone with a party of 22 people would try to fit in the area allocated for one lane… you will be annoyed. So… if you are a person who is territorial and gets annoyed easily… Not For You! If you go there with the intention of throwing a few balls helter-skelter and conversing with some friends while eating a little pizza and enjoying the socializing at whatever event your there for …you’ll probably have a pretty good time.;-D

We had eaten across the street at Mash’d and just dropped in to see what this place as like. The staff was incredibly friendly so we ended up staying and bowling for a few games. Games are billed hourly and the setup is really nice and the staff was super attentive. We didn’t order any food, but they brought us water and really made us feel at-home. The only downside is we had several glitches with the lanes(sometimes they wouldn’t reset all the pins and when the pins got tangled we had to switch lanes). The place wasn’t all that busy for most of the day that we spent there.

I had high hopes and wanted to check it out. It seems like a good concept but it sucks. The bowling is garbage. You can’t enjoy bowling when you’re on a time limit. If you have more than 2 people you better pay for 3 hours. Unless you want to speed bowl by standing behind each other. You more than likely won’t get in a full game in 1 hour. The place is small with not many lanes and you’re right on top of each other with the next lane. If anything screws up during your time, you’re screwed because the next reservation is coming. You can pay the same and go to Bolero. A much bigger place, music, better food, big screens, no time limit.

I had a wonderful time at Bowl and Barrel and am honestly a little confused by the low reviews. First off, this is not supposed to be a «traditional» bowling alley. It’s supposed to be different. There is good music, good food, and good drink options. That being said, you will also pay a little more than a «traditional» bowling alley, but that is because you’re getting much more in return than what a traditional bowling alley can offer. I thought the food was really great. The pizza, cheese/prosciutto boards, and sliders were all really delicious. It’s a great place to go if you have a large group. You can make a reservation and have your own space. If you come with just one other person, you will have to share the couch/table with others, possibly. They have a limited beer menu, but every beer they had was great. I also thought it was interesting that they had some wine on tap, and was impressed with what they had available.

This place has an identity problem. Bowling to me should be «good, clean fun», but the bar and drinking atmosphere combined with obscene music(«get on the floor b****) type stuff gives this place a different vibe than that of a traditional bowling alley. i would be hesitant to call it a family type place. The food is mediocre at best and the«string bowling» isn’t for a serious bowler. The service was great, but we’re not mid-day drinkers and just came to have some fun. The place is clean, and well managed. It’s just, well… different.

Went on a Wednesday night for date night. Spent $ 80 and only ordered two drinks. Nothing to eat. We had no server. No one ever came to check on us. No one greeted us when we entered. We waited for a hostess to realize we were there and seat is at a lane. Nothing special and unless I was invited, I would not go out of my way to attend this place again.

Lots of fun, but you need a reservation. You need to go in person if you want to make a reservation for less than 4 people(this is stupid). Front desk person seemed kind of sour and service was very slow. If you are staying at the La Cantera then the shuttle will drop you off.

The pizza is pretty good, but the bowling is absolute garbage. The lanes aren’t slick at all, and worst of all the scoring system is messed up. You’ll get a strike and then the scoring system will say you still have more pins to hit. They won’t set up the pins you«missed» and then after your second throw it won’t even give you a spare. This was happening almost every time we bowled. I’m never coming back. They don’t even use a traditional bowling setup. The pins have little wires attached to the top of each pin. I believe that’s what causes all of the scoring problems. Update: one of the pins had come unattached from one of the strings making it impossible for the system to give us a spare or strike despite knocking them all down. The manager acknowledged that this sometimes happens and refunded some of our money. Although I’d like to note that the scoring problems were occurring before a pin broke from the string. I won’t be back.

Just stopped in to see what it was after eating at its apparent sister restaurant and found a cool modern bowling ally! The price is comparable to many other places in San Antonio with a more adult atmosphere. I would definitely return to try more of the food and drinks. I would suggest it to both friends and family looking for some night life on the Northside of town.

Went with my wife to bowl and barrel on a Saturday night. Called around 9:15PM to ask for a reservation. At first they said they had one available but when we mentioned it was just two people they said they only take reservations for four or more and the next available lane was not until 11PM. We took a chance and arrived around 9:45. They initially said they did not have a lane until 11PM, but after further review they said they might have one available at 10PM. We lucked out! The hourly rates were comparable to most bowling alleys and it is a much nicer place for adults. I had some Glenfiddich with some water. They also added ice for $ 13. I think it was overpriced for sure. But it wasn’t bad. Next we got our lane and the machine got stuck. But the attendent quickly fixed it with no delay. I ordered a medium amber beer for about $ 8. It was good and frothy. Overall it was a great atmosphere, clean and the staff were nice. They also had socks for my wife. I would definitely go again!

We finally got the check out this place for date night last night, and we loved it! We stayed over in the bar though for food and drinks, so I can’t speak for the bowling. It;s unfortunate that their draft system was not working, but bottles were priced fairly. We ordered the Butcher Block and Foreign & Domestic boards, a great value for $ 22. We love charcuterie plates and this is one of the best ones we have had. Drizzle some honey over the Pecorino or Brie, OMG. We also had an order of the meatloaf meatballs — delicious! They were juicy and flavorful with an amazing crust on the outside. The tomato jam was much more than I expected.

This place was fun and supports the troops. I had a good time with the boys. It’s a family oriented establishment. I think the place is a little bit pricey but you’re paying for the experience. The food was delicious; I was thoroughly impressed by the burgers in bags. The pizza is good as well. Me and some friends went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too crowded. They have a 2 hour bowling maximum per party. We were on lane 11 but lane 11 kept messing up so if you can avoid Lane 11 I would stay away from it. Since the lane was messing up they did give us a couple more minutes of play time after I asked for it. All of the staff is really friendly and welcoming. This place does offer a 20% military discount. In conclusion, we had a great time, the food was good, staff was friendly and this bowling alley is located in a really nice neighborhood. After reading the other reviews I think they are a little bit harsh but that’s the beauty of opinions.
