The Shanty Rose

Place is great. Gotta go there. Brian the GM/​cook turned this place upside down and it right sided up. All the bartenders and waitresses are super! Give it a whirl!

Small place near the pier across the way from the busier Wood’s restaurant. This place is better. Don’t the the small interior or dated dining area deter you from eating here. The lobster roll was fresh and tasty. The onion rings were FABULOUS and full of flavor. Really good! Also the buffalo scallops were unique and tasty too! Service was fast and friendly.

Well the flies were at my table more than the waitress was. The water had a weird after taste and the lobster roll was bad. I gave it 2 stars because the French fries tasted good. The fish was cooked poorly and the atmosphere was horrible. Visiting from California I’m disappointed I waisted $ 40.00 on dinner here.

Wow! We were so pleasantly surprised by our lunch here.
Debbie made the best Bloody Mary I have ever had. And the BLT was perfect. Bacon crisp, lettuce and tomato fresh, and great bread. The onion rings were hand sliced and breaded twice. Perfectly fried — not greasy at all. And of course I had to sample the fries and sweet potato fries. They were fabulous. My dining companions ordered clam chowder and lobster rolls. They raved about both, though the rolls could have been more filled.
And Carla, our waitress, was a total rockstar.
Looking forward to coming back!

Great food, service and good prices. We enjoyed some of the best clam chowder sampled during our stay in coastal Massachusetts. What a great little spot to enjoy just good food.

If you’re looking for a fun and friendly place to go, Shanty Rose is definitely worthy of a visit

Always the same Great band and the regulars party like rock stars
Frat party for 50 & 60 year olds
We have been three or four times this summer, Thursday nights.
Oh yeah, food is great, well priced and cooked to order

This is the worst, worst restaurant, pub or whatever this should be. I’ve ever been to. The service is unfriendly, the atmosphere is disgusting. Not even talking about the food yet. I feel sorry for the pub.

I must have caught them on a bad day. Worst grilled cheese ever. Two thin slices of cheese on thick dry bread barely even cooked. Husband had scrod Reuben and said it was just ok.

The Shanty Rose’s crab cakes rival the best Maryland has to offer. So, if you are in Plymouth, Mass. stop by and try them!

This is a great local pub. The food was reasonably priced and tasted delicious! I’d come back again!

We arrived it has been recently renovated waitress was friendly we ordered drinks and calamari for an app sad to say they served us frozen calamari when the oceans is feet away we usual love this place so far the one thing you fear when a Restaraunt changes appearance the food stays consistent I ordered seafood platter fried my wife ordered baked scallops waiting now almost 35 min for entrees this is not good very loud w bar right next to dinning area very loud this place has changed to bad horrible over cook food this place has gone down hill we will not be back

Great little place right at the waterfront — good food at reasonable price — bonus outside tables

I’ve lived in Plymouth since 1992, yesterday was my first visit to the Shanty Rose but it won’t be my last. Service was excellent and so was the food. I am vegan and they had veggie burgers I was not expecting that at all. I loved the charm and atmosphere, it’s very small and intimate. Oh and don’t forget to check out the Jason Alexander picture in the bathroom. There is no rose like The Shanty Rose, A+ in my book.

Such a fun place and great food. The service and staff are awesome. A very small place with great people. We just all loved it. Try this place out and I am sure you will enjoy.

Really disappointed-​I didn’t even get inside to try the menu. I parked outside the restaurant and was deciding whether to get take out when a waitress came out yelling at me not to park there. I told her I was just deciding whether to come in and get take out. She starting swearing at me and stood by the door watching. I was so uncomfortable I moved my car and got take out at Woods instead. Tried 3x to get ahold of the owner to tell him what happened but was unsuccessful. Would never come here nor recommend. I eat downtown at least 1/​wk and will never go there.

Affordable, fresh seafood. Very good! Fish and chips were great and so were fried clams. Tiny little place though so go in the off hours.

Nothing compared to other Plymouth waterfront locations. The reviews here make this place seem like a serviceable establishment. The entire place was filthy; the table we were at was sticky while the floor and other tables had clearly visible dirt and grime. The place was empty but it still took 20 minutes to get two beers. Completely understandable during busy hours, but there were maybe four other tables being waited on in the whole place. The food was alright. Not worth the wait really, but not bad. The staff we experienced were quite rude and would only pay attention to the townies. We asked for a couple of waters and were told it would be right away while we waited 20 minutes again for them and others were served several more complicated drinks in that same amount of time. The crowd here is just generally unpleasant and sometimes rowdy. Plenty of other places around to make it easy to avoid having to go to this place ever again.

I have been going to this place since it has opened I have never had a bad meal ever they have the best clam chowdah excellent chicken tempura and also have great specials there food is always fresh YOU can’t go wrong with this place

I came here for lunch during my visit to Plymouth. My fiancé and I ordered a couple of items to share including a cup of the clam chowder, the lobster dinner, and fried scallops. Everything was delicious. Being from California and having tried my fair share of clam chowder in San Francisco and Monterey, I can honestly say that the chowder here is way better than anything I have had on the west coast. The lobster was really meaty and well seasoned and the $ 12.00 special for lunch was quite the steal. The scallops were very good but I was not a fan of the batter so I just picked it off and enjoyed the scallops. Both the lobster and scallops came with french fries which were also very good. Normally, I don’t comment on the fries but these ones are worth mentioning.
Finally, what made this place 5 stars for me was the excellent service that we received from our waitress. She was super friendly, efficient, and helpful to us when we were making our menu selections. I wish I lived closer to this place.

Talk about a small town bar! The Shanty Rose is the size of one room! Nonetheless, the staff are very cordial, the drinks are fairly cheap, and its a great spot to relax.
Bonus points also for dealing with a group of New Yorkers. We weren’t abrasive by any means, but hey, we’re just loud.
I had a couple of specials that advertised on the wall:
1) Guinness with Vanilla vodka — $ 5.75 — This was amazing. She poured half a glass of Guinness, then poured Vanilla Skyy vodka while filled the rest of the pint of Guinness. This will certainly warm you up.
2)Cider with rum — $ 6 — Nothing like a warm apple cider, especially spiked!
If I’m in Plymouth again i will definitely seek this place out.
