Boo. Tried to go this weekend and found out it’s closed for good.

Yuck. Seeing as it’s called the«Lucky Ladle,» My fiancé and I thought it would be good to try the soup. He got the black bean veggie, and I tried the tomato. No lie, they served us Campbell’s soup – gross. I also had a grilled cheese, which tasted like cardboard. My boy had the veggie quesadilla, also bad. The prices are low, but so is the quality.

I keep passing by this place, as it’s only a few blocks from my house, so today I decided to make a morning of it and stop by for breakfast. It was a gorgeous day out, and luckily enough, there was an empty table out on the sidewalk. There were two servers on the floor, and both of them waited on me in some capacity. Both were attentive without being too invasive, and also kind. I was especially happy that even though I was on the third(huge!) cup of coffee when I paid the bill, the server asked if I’d like another refill. As far as the meal went, I bought the most ridiculous thing on the menu, home fries smothered in gravy, cheese, bacon and sour cream, topped with three eggs and toast. It was a gigantic mound of food, but after last night’s debauchery, I really needed all that greasy goodness. The menu offerings seemed to have a bit of everything, from gluttonous plates like the one I chose, to more demure soups, salads, and sandwiches. I almost ordered the Elvis sandwich(peanut butter, banana and bacon) instead, but thankfully decided to save that for next time around. Overall, I thought that The Lucky Ladle was a great diner, perfect for painful mornings when a little indulgence is in order.

Cool space(exposed brick walls with local art hanging all around) with mismatched furniture(plastic chairs, wooden chairs and a big wooden couch at one table) with decent if a little pricey food. Went there with my breakfast groupie, I had the 2 eggs, grits, bacon and sausage plus home fries meals. Did not realize my home fries would come out like a baked potato — in a separate dish with sour cream, cheese and brown gravy. Not bad, but nothing special either. I do want to try the Elvis and the fruit kebab, so since it is within walking distance, I’ll try it again… lunch menu looks decent too.

Great Breakfast cure for hangovers. French Toast with home fries :) Economical, only downside is you have to BYOB but they encourage it Great homecooked meal, grandmas house atmosphere

Your hangover called, it wants you to go to The Lucky Ladle After a night of partying and deciding we’re too weak for a wait elsewhere, we headed to Lucky Ladle. Pleasantly suprised, Magazine was not crowded! Yum. We sat there staring blankly at the breakfast menu, because it was really that hard to decide. The service was on point and the meal kicked @ss! Seriously, it was exactly the indulgent, over the top, this is what I’m craving, thank goodness I worked out yesterday, entering a food coma, kind of meal we craved. My meal was home fried potatoes with gravy and three over easy eggs on top(I asked to hold the bacon and sour cream)! If that is not a delicious feast o’ calories, I dont know what is. I couldn’t finish it for fear of a button popping and hurting someone! The place was not crowded(this surprised me) and the service was beyond attentive. I noticed all the delicious soups and sandwiches on the lunch menu they were also serving, I so need to return to try the soups! A reviewer did say they offer meals you could make at home. This is true, nothing was overly complicated, but heres the thing, I didnt have to make it at home. I couldnt make it at home, I didnt have the ingredients and I couldnt concentrate over the loud banging in my head from the previous night. I paid less than $ 10 for it to be made for me and brought to me while my water and oj were constantly refilled and I will def do it again! Oh! And you can design your own breakfast, which is kind of cool as well, particularly if you dont grave a cute pig in the form of bacon or sausage that early in the day!

We put our names on the list at Surrey’s and took a stroll through my old neighborhood while we waited. But I’m a breakfast girl and when I’m hungry, I need to eat. Immediately. Or bad things happen. At dinner, you can waste some time, have a cocktail but at breakfast, I’m not about waiting. Anyway, we walked past the Ladle and decided to give it a go. Nothing was really standout except how much food we got and our bill for two was still under $ 20. We split the grilled cheese with tomato soup as well as the bananas foster waffles because it’s always a conundrum at 11am on Saturday to figure out what you are in the mood for. Breakfast? Lunch? We got them both. We also got a little side spinach salad with one of our meals and it was nice except for the weird, cellulose-dusted mozzarella shreds on top. The hash browns sucked, no flavor and tasted like they were made hours before. The space is pleasant and if you don’t feel like waiting in line(Surrey’s) or spending $ 30 just on breakfast for yourself(Dante’s), this is a good option.

I love this place. They have great sandwiches and really tasty soups! I go there whenever possible and really recommend the soup. Most recently I had the corn and crab and it was very delicious. I also regularly enjoy the black bean soup. My favorite is the build your own sandwich with a bowl of soup on the side. If the good food weren’t enough, it also happens to be very affordable. If you are looking for a cute, affordable place in the lower garden district to eat a simple, yet tasty sandwich, check out Lucky Ladle!

truly awful. Everything is like bad food you make at home and then one day you go out to eat and find that same boring crap at a «restaurant». Canned mushrooms on my vegetable quesadilla. when I opened up a section, I counted 2 pieces of red pepper, one tiny spinach leaf and 3 canned mushrooms. the cheese was almost non existent. Uninspired is the kindest way to describe the food. My friends grits were lumpy and tasteless. The waiter seemingly embarrassed at the slop he had to serve and the cook that delivered the food seemed pissed off that she was«working sick» as she announced to a friend. Nice. The prices may seem cheap but not when you get your food. Stay home and make a sandwich you will be happier.

I really like this place. It is super cute and relaxed and the food is awesome. My favorite is the breakfast quesadilla… the salsa that comes with it is is so smooth and roasted. I love that they have free fortune cookies with a New Orleans theme. Don’t bother driving further down Mag St. for a better breakfast or quick lunch. Did I mention they have 4 or 5 soups too! Score!

Great place to have breakfast at! My friend lives a few blocks away from it, and when she’s working I take her little dog for a walk at the park on Coliseum and end up having a relaxed breakfast. He usually gets a treat and some water as well. All on the house.

Another in a series on uninspiring breakfasts in the Crescent City. The report from the coffee drinker at the table was: not really. The eggs, bacon, toast — all that staple stuff was ok but nothing different from what I could have made for myself at home. So what’s the draw for paying through the nose to have someone else make it? «Fruit Kabobs»? OK, that’s a clever name for grapes on a stick. I’m oversimplifying: there was also a halved strawberry. Come on — that’s just the garnish, speared up. Biggest disappointment though was the bacon and brown sugar waffle. Couldn’t taste the brown sugar — probably because the powdered sugar on top of it overwhelmed but the bacon? The BACON? How do you screw up bacon? I know now — you burn it, crumple it up, and them blend it into waffle batter. Gross.

Love The Lucky Ladle! What’s better than fruit kabobs, giant cups of coffee and bacon on your peanut butter and banana sandwich? Why affordable prices for all of that, of course! The Tish Dish is another favorite of mine and feeds my desire for comfort food in the winter(tomato soup and grilled cheese? hello childhood). I haven’t done breakfast here, but it IS served all day(which is only until 2pm) and that’s a plus in my book. You never know when you’ll need scrambled eggs and bacon at 1PM. Also, it’s on a quiet-ish part of Magazine Street and has both sidewalk seating and a little patio. Check it out. You won’t regret it(or at least I never have).

I’ve been here twice now, and I just absolutely love it. The place is SO cute, and the food is both tasty and affordable. I’m surprised that more people weren’t there each time I’ve gone.(You guys, you need to go there, so this place doesn’t go out of business! Do it for me.) We sat outside today, and it was just so nice — the service was still great. The portions are sizeable for the price, which is a big advantage to me(and other poor post-grads). The first time I went, I had«the tish dish,»($ 7) which is tomato soup and grilled cheese — it was perfect for the cold day, grilled cheese was good, and the soup was nice and thick. Yum. Today I had my new favorite, the«Elvis» panini($ 6). SOGOOD. Who knew that banana, peanut butter, and bacon not only go together well, but are actually the perfect blend of flavors?! It is SO rich and SO delicious. You absolutely must try it. Definitely get the fruit kabob as your side because this little sandwich will fill you up, and you won’t want anything remotely fattening after it. Tips: Free coffee on Wednesdays! Also, be aware that the menu available on the other review-site-that-must-not-be-named is outdated, and the prices have changed a little bit.

Alright, I guess. Friends wanted to try somewhere new so I made the trek arriving at about 11. We were one of only three tables. Service was efficient but aloof. I ordered the 2 dat breakfast: two eggs over easy and two sides, home fries and sausage. I had to steal toast from my friends breakfast because it was a little too runny. Tasty sausage, abnormally tiny cubes of flash fried potatoes. I liked the mismatched blue chairs and exposed brick walls, as well as the cheap prices($ 7 including coffee) but potatoes are a dealbreaker. Probably not going to come back.

Great Breakfast and lunch! Hubbie & I were wandering around the Garden District in the morning, then strolled down Magazine to see what’s to see, by the time we were a few blocks from the Ladle we were getting pretty famished, so we started looking for something to eat. Bar, Po-boy shop, bar, Po-boy shop, no, no, defiantly not again, then just as the clouds started to unload, The Lucky Ladle magically appeared like a fairy godmother, and she didn’t disappoint. We sat outside under a metal canopy listening to the rain, and grooving on the ladles Tomato Bisque & a grilled swiss sandwich, ahhhhh perfection. The hubbie had a bacon & cheese croissant breakfast sandwich and proclaimed it the best bacon sandwich in history! *Bonus Points* We were witness to a «floor show» the neighbors put on while we were eating, you can’t beat free entertainment. Also, our waiter was perfect, there when we needed him, gone when we didn’t. An altogether enjoyable eating experience out of the rip tide of tourist traps.

Yes! We ditched out of work for a bit today and wondered over to Magazine St. Stopped at Jackson, looked at the prices and walked a bit farther to Lucky Ladle. I have to say, the prices are good, our waiter was great, the portions were… ok. And their idea of a generous portion of bacon was… generous. The only bad things were the dressings. Both mine and my co-worker’s dressing was sweet as candy. Almost too sweet to eat(Well.his WAS too sweet to eat). I asked for some vinegar or something and explained about the too-sweet and the cook came out with a nice oil and vinegar which, I have to admit, should have been the dressing on a spinach and bacon salad anyway. My Co-worker really liked his sammach and for the money, it was a really good meal. One warning. They said they are usually REALLY packed on weekends starting from 11am on. So maybe try it on a weekday(it was empty when we went there at 12:30). I need to go back and take the girly with me.

This is an adorable place with a darling kitchen. The menu proudly advertises that they opened in June 2010 then touts their flexible kitchen. Breakfast until they close? Sure! Lunch starting at 11? Okay(I guess). I took my international advisor on all things cute and twee to see if this café fit the bill. She was thrilled with the blue chairs, textural art, and all the little«New Orleans» touches tucked around the shop. The prospect of a fruit kebab made her literally squeal. So on the cute and twee side, Lucky Ladle nailed it. Yes! On another reviewer’s recommendation, we tried the spinach and three cheese dip. It was good although not addictive. I thought it was a nice break from the pervasive spinach artichoke dip; my dining companion was disappointed because spinach artichoke dip is her favorite thing ever. Were I to return, I’d order it as my entrée with a side salad or a piece of pie. For entrees, the veg*n lunch side of the menu is a little slim with only two outright veg*n sandwichs. I suspect everything else could be modified with no pains, but it would go a long way to see that noted on the menu. The veggie quesadilla was better than Juan’s, with crisp fresh veg instead of soggy pre-cooked stuff. It was also pretty big.(See picture.) The fruit kebab was a nice touch, too. I made my own sandwich, and that was easy enough. The price was right for me, and everything was good. I enjoy the circle-your-own slips because I know my ideal sandwich won’t be lost in translation. And yes, fruit kebab.(Again with the fruit kebabs, you think. Well, it’s sufficiently novel, AND the fruit was really good. Better than the standard fruit cup!) Even though I didn’t try the soup or pie, I think the Lucky Ladle has a strong concept; and I’m excited to live nearby. I want to keep noshing here and nibbling my way through the menu. This is a worthy lunch stop for businessfolk, and the parking in the area(street) is pretty easy for folks who want to hop over from the CBD. Accessibility notes: Fully accessible for mobility devices. No braille menu or signage.

A stellar find. We stumbled into this new lunch place wandering down Magazine while staying at a hostel a few blocks a way. Everything on the menu is worth trying – unique, delicious, and for a great one-dollar-sign price. One of those places where you’re tormented by the fact you can’t try everything on the menu at once. The Elvis panini(bacon, banana, and peanut butter, $ 6) completely hit the spot because all the ingredients are awesome. The tomato bisque($ 5 with grilled cheese) was incredibly creamy. And for the love of God, don’t miss the spinach and three-cheese dip($ 4.50), it’s absolutely killer – we came back three days in a row for it and begged them to serve it at breakfast, even though it’s on the lunch menu. We were scraping the bottom of the bowl for the last bits of it. Ask for it with the cajun chips. All in all, a great meal for 2 for easily under $ 20, and that’s with us trying multiple appetizers like mad. The couple that owns this place is sweet and generous. Give them a nice tip and keep this place around.
