Great time. Great food. Great prices. We happened upon this place, on a stroll one day down Magazine. Love the indoor/outdoor patio. Nice atmosphere. Lovely people. Great music & drink specials, every other friday… What more can be said??? We celebrated a fellow Unilocaler’s bday here… Good choice!!! It just so happens the day went was an ‘every other FREEBEER Friday’; #yes #winning. The staff were helpful with food selections & even visited our table to chat a bit. Our food was served with a smile; #melikesthat. We had a variety of hot dogs & fries; nothing disappointed. The bun the hot dogs was served on seemed gourmet, toasted or baked, the tad bit of crust was JUSTRIGHT!!! My granny will looooove this bread; definite return visit in the near future. The DJ that was in place made this more of a fun time, in addition to it being ‘girl’s night out’. Hated to leave, just means I have to return SOONER than later.

I’ve got some ‘beef’ with this place. haha, but seriously. New in town, I applied to work at Diva Dawgs. Diva herself invited me in for a «trial run» so she could compare me to other potential employees. After I’d found other means of employment, she informed me that I would not be compensated for the time! Not cool, right? Other than that, the menu is a bit complex– it’s a start up working out the kinks. Water only comes in over-priced bottles . The food is decent, but really. you’re just thawing a hot dog. My suggestion if you’re in the area, go 3 miles west to Dat Dog.

I LOVE this place. Once i walked in and saw the menu, i quickly became overwhelmed at all the choices! The guy at the counter was very pleasant and helpful; he answered all questions that me and my friends had with no hesitation or attitude. I ended up ordering the andouille sausage dog with fried chicken, andouille ketchup, relish, sauerkraut and creole mustard along with the étouffée fries. I think my food took less than 10 minutes to come out. It was DELICIOUS! The andouille sausage with all the toppings I got was so good. I expected the fried chicken to be strips but it turned out to be 4 nice sized balls. I actually thought they had mistakenly given me fried oysters, which is an option, but it was indeed chicken. The étouffée fries were great. Maybe. a tad salty but it wasn’t unbearable. The staff was absolutely welcoming. The cook is so friendly and personable. She actually brought our food out to us. My group was in there for a while, but the staff remained sweet the whole time. They checked on us repeatedly and took our trash away as we were finishing The only thing keeping me from giving Diva Dawg 5 stars is the prices. They are on the prices side foe what they sell. My hot dog and fries came up to $ 15.80. I didn’t get a drink. Nonetheless, I’d definitely eat here again, just on a day when I feel like splurging :-D

How I do love a good hot dog, and with the recent advent of gourmet hot dog«restaurants» I am literally in hog(I mean dog) heaven. I actually found Diva Dawg by «accident» as I was stuck in traffic on Magazine St. The culprit of the traffic was a car exiting a parking spot in front of Diva Dawg so I «ganked» his parking spot and opted to give Diva Dawg a try. What a great move this turned out to be. I decided to keep it simple and ordered the«Diva Dawg», which is their signautre dog. My idea of the perfect condiments are sauerkraut, chili, onions and a squirt of spicy mustard. This premium beef dog had a subtle cajun spice and is made with what I think is a natural casing, as it had that«snap» when I bit into it. The dog itself is as fresh as it gets, as Diva Dawg gets all of their hot dogs locally from Vaucresson’s; which has been making their sausages in New Orleans’ 7th ward neighborhood since 1899. Nothing can ruin a hot dog quicker than sad a$$ bun. But Diva Dawg has the best tasting bun I’ve ever had. In fact, I never knew how important the bun was to the overall experience until I tried this one. Once again, Diva Dawg sought out a local bakery(Laurel Street Bakery) for their buns. This bun was amazing. I know you are all thinking, hey it’s just a bun. But you would be wrong to assume that. Their buns are baked similarly to a brioche in that they are very light in texture and are made with a high butter and egg content that imparts a wonderfully puffy texture and rich taste. There is a subtle sweeteness to it that reminds me of a Kings Hawaiian sweet bread. However, this bun is lightly grilled and the outer layer is reminiscent of Texas Toast or a lightly toasted grilled cheese sandwich, yet it remains light and fluffy on the inside. Just trust me in that this is a great bun. I won’t spend a lot of time on anything else as this was a quick lunch, and we were in an out in a hurry. My co-worker had the Zapp’s dog which contained crumbled Zapp’s potato chips and was topped with chili & nacho cheese. However, I did not sample it and cannot comment on the taste. However, it looked solid and he confirmed my observation. The staff is super friendly and informative about the menu. In fact, it was nice to experience their pride in their workplace, as they were almost bragging; and rightfully so. Can’t wait to go back and ‘get me some more’!

Have your antacids and pepto on standby, Diva Dog does not hold back and will serve up all at once every food you love and eat in spite of the fact that it causes you major errr disruption. I had the dog topped with chili, fried chix, and some sort of fancy mustard. It was tasty and oh my god filling. I got my protein for about the next 6 weeks. My boyfriend got the crawfish ettouffe(don’t know how to spell that and currently too lazy to look it up). He didn’t like his based on the fact that is made him feel like he was going to shit his pants. The in-house dining experience is pretty cool and has good atmosphere — just wishing they had a bar! We thought the food would be similar to Dat Dog — really these are two different approaches to the dog, so don’t consider them the same, try them both. More expensive than Dat Dog.

The best part has to be all of the toppings that you can add! The hot dog itself wasn’t all that great but the toppings and the bun definitely made up for it! Not better than Stuggy’s in MD but I’m from MD so I’m biased… LOL!

My experience at Diva Dog wasn’t bad, but it just wasn’t all I’d hoped. I went in and ordered a standard hot dog with fries and a drink. The prices were rather expensive(at least for a hot dog) but I understand that you pay a premium for a very high-end hot dog. The staff was very attentive, friendly and pleasant, but the hot dog was only so-so. It was a bit more on the sausage end of the spectrum to my taste, and just not my favorite type of dog. The bun was very moist and fresh and the fries were good, but I’ve just found better gourmet hot dog joints in town. They’re certainly not bad, but I think they’d benefit from revamping their basic dog.

Fad or no fad, I’m loving the hot dog craze in New Orleans. I came in with a Living Social deal and have been dying to try this place. From the other reviews I was a little skeptical. Sure, it’s a little pricey for hot dogs, but it is on Magazine St. and the options are definitely gourmet. If you want a cheap hot dog, go get a Lucky Dog people! I got the red bean chili dog with fried chicken, because who doesn’t want a hot dog topped with friend chicken?! The red bean chili is such a good idea! I thought it would be just like red beans and rice, but it was made like an actual chili and I loved it. The dawgs are pretty good and the bun was plain, which was fine, because it didn’t distract from all the toppings. I saw the couple next to us eating the oyster dog and automatically got order envy. I think ordering the specialty dawgs are the way to go here.

The basics: expensive for hotdogs, not as great as it looks, and overall meh. I scoped out their facebook prior to going and was salivating over the pictures, so I convinced my longsuffering boyfriend to accompany me on another food quest. I had the BBQ shrimp dog, he the crawfish étouffée dog and we split some fries. Pictures online are extremely misleading. My BBQ shrimp was good, but a little tart(considering it’s made with Abita root beer), but that didn’t bother me. The shrimp were very small and almost reminiscent of shrimp fried rice(would’ve infinitely preferred 2 – 3 gulf shrimp instead of these). The étouffée was gross– there’s no way around it. It was greasy and bland and looked like I could make it. Fries are nothing to write home about. The crumbled Zapp’s don’t really do anything for me. You wont die eating this food, but if you live in the city, try dat dog instead

I came to Diva Dawg with a deal from Amazon Local. The menu looked interesting and the Unilocal reviews have been mostly positive. Plus, my kid likes hot dogs. We got her a plain beef dog, which was huge. She liked it. I got the Red Bean Chili dog. Interesting concept with good flavor. However, the chili really made the bun soggy, to the point where I had to eat half of it with a fork & knife(probably why there is a basket of forks and knives on the table). My fiancé had the Oyster dog, and had no complaints. Without the deal, it would have been about $ 30 for the 3 of us… just hot dogs, no drinks or sides. I don’t know that I would have paid that. The dogs are good, but I’m too much of a cheapo to pay $ 9 + tax for a hot dog…

It is DAWG meets NOLA! Friendly service, unique toppings, and a pretty good dawg! Unlike some of the other reviewers, I really enjoyed the bun, which held up well for my simple dawg with the basic toppings. The actual dawg was tasty with a bit of spice. I will return when my occasional hot dog craving arises.

This was my second time at Diva Dawg. I had the Amazon Local Deal($ 10 for $ 20 worth of food and drink!) so I was pretty excited to use it. I got an alligator sausage dog with chili, cheese, and BBQ shrimp. Though the chili and BBQ shrimp were tasty, the heat from these toppings totally ruined my bun; my hot dog was so soggy and fell apart in my hands and I had no choice but to eat it with fork and knife. Kind of disappointing. Service is slow too, but the employees are very nice and welcoming. Despite this, they do have some interesting choices for their speciality dogs. My friend truly enjoyed her oyster dog and I’m intrigued by the chicken and waffles dog… Overall, I probably wouldn’t come back unless someone treated me.

Spicy hot dog. I got the Diva Dawg with creole mustard and pickles. A quick spicy tasty snack that my tummy talked about for hours. Someday I would like to try all their interesting sausages and toppings. Adding to the atmosphere was the old men in the corner playing dominoes or some such game.

There’s a hot dog craze afoot in New Orleans. Last year, it was Fro Yo. Before that we had cupcake stores on every corner. I think the sign of a good fad seller is whether it has the potential to outlive the fad. Diva Dawg is one such place. They’ve got a huge selection of meat varieties and toppings to choose from. Standard dogs, Italian, Polish, chili, cheese, onions. They even have super primo options like Kobe beef and lobster. I most enjoyed the red bean topping. Who’d have thought this New Orleans staple could go so well with Cajun sausage? Yet, strangely enough, my two overall favorite items have nothing to do with foot longs: the grilled cheese and the praline shake. The grilled cheese will make your eyes cross(although one time it was a bit greasy for some reason) and the shake will make them cross more. Give this place a try. It may be new, but I have a feeling it’ll be around for a long time.

Can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet, I’ve been here 3 or 4 times since they opened and always had good food at Diva Dawg. It’s not nearly as large as Dat Dog and they suffer from the same overwhelming menu problem but I’ve tasted the Diva Dawg, Étouffée Chili Dawg, Sweet Fire Oyster Dawg and others and they’re always good. Virtually all of the sausages are made by Vaucresson including the custom made Diva Dawg plus normal options that you can get a festivals which are also very good, and you also have a number of nice side options such as a Praline Shake, Bread Pudding, Étouffée Fries, Sweet Potato Tots and most things in the shop are pretty solid. Prices are not cheap however plus some may consider portions to be a bit small on the side items — we usually end up spending $ 20 – 25 for 2 people on each visit which isn’t bad for a full meal of homemade food & high quality local artisan sausages but it’s certainly higher than you expect at a hot dog joint(especially those of us originally from Chicago who are used to a loaded — but smaller — Chicago Dog for around $ 3). The food is great, but be aware the seating is somewhat limited(which usually isn’t an issue given that they’re rarely jam packed) and the atmosphere is unfortunately nothing special. Service is kind but not necessarily warm and inviting — and it can take a while to get your order, expect 5 minutes if you’re the only one there are 10 – 15 if they’re crowded. It’s a great place to have in the neighborhood however for an informal bite of good, homemade food in hot dog format and I hope they get enough support to keep going. Ultimately though I think the atmosphere of fun and friendliness at Dat Dog is more likely to draw people from across town as opposed to Diva Dawg — you should definitely check out both and decide which one you like best. I can actually walk to Diva Dawg and I find their food to be a bit better so Diva Dawg will be my choice for gourmet sausages probably 8 out of 10 times(although I hear that I should check out Dreamy Weenies as well on Rempart, which could join the rotation). Especially if you’re shopping on that stretch of Magazine Street Diva Dawg is a nice choice for food.

Diva Dawg I can’t leave you alone. Nice concept for turkeytarian dawg lovers. Soooooo what is a tukeytarian = a lover of turkey. I had a great turkey dog with veggie chilli. There are soooo many options it reminds me of being at a sno ball stand. I am so happy we have places like this for a quick dish. Reminds me of being a little girl eating chilli dogs. I am always in the area so it’s really convenient to grab one with a drink. I am an avid soft bun lover. I don’t like burnt buns. I would give 5 stars but the buns need improvement. To sum this review up: Positive experience, great food and service. This is one of my NEW favorite spots.

Boy, I really like this place for what it is! A nice, locally-owned affordable place with a distinctly local flare! I happened in in the middle of the afternoon last Wednesday and had a nice conversation with the owner about her products and her first month. She led me through the menu and as it was my first time I started with her own recipie beef hotdog with creole cream cheese. I was da bomb. Bun was buttery and great, the actual dog tasted like a good sausage rather than a weenie. Lots of different creative toppings to choose from. Next time I will be more adventurous with the other home-made types of sausages. So five stars, not because it is better than commanders palace… but because it fits in perfectly in the LGD alongside Juan’s as great locally-owned places where you can get a quick bite to eat in that New Orleans way where we don’t tolerate mediocrity in food — regardless what price point. Best of luck to Diva Dawg, I’ll be back.

Wandered over to Diva Dawg this evening and had a pretty good time. The place is a hotdog joint, and pretty much looks like a hotdog joint. Ordered the Zapp’s Chip Dog, which was interesting and tasty. It came with the Diva Dog(a custom blended hotdog), crumbled chips, chili, and cheese. The dog was big, and the bun was toasted with butter. Overall, it was very good. The service was friendly, and the owner walked around and asked how we liked our meal. We will wander over again and try something else.

Maybe eating at places like Pinks and Carneys in Los Angeles has made me jaded, but it seems to me a lot of places out there dont know how to make a hot dog. This place included. Heather wanted a turkey dog, randomly, while we were wondering around the Garden District. We got one here. It cost $ 9.00 including a coke. It took 15 minutes, even though we were the only ones in the restaurant. It was limp and flavorless and the bun was so meh she chucked it. I got a diet coke and wanted some ice. After about 10 minutes I saw the guy grab a plastic cup and stick it into an igloo cooler they had in a closet. There was something about it that didnt seem hygienic. And to the person who gave it five stars above(and who has only reviewed this one place ever) I have to shame you for actually saying this place is ‘definitely one of the most unique places to eat in NOLA’. You are talking about New Orleans, right? The place that has AMAZINGFREAKINGFOODEVERYWHEREYOULOOK? And this place your ‘most unique places’ list? That’s just awesomely bad…
