When I visited NOLA, we had a Groupon for $ 40 worth of food for the price of only $ 20 — a very good deal that allowed us to eat at a very good place that we would not have been able to go to without it. Everything on the menu was so damn appealing it was truly a task choosing what to order. I am not going to lie, we were pretty bummed that they were temporarily out of the Sun Dried Tomato and Pesto Terrine appetizer; but in the end it encouraged us to all order the entrees we really wanted for ourselves. A friend chose the Blackened Scallop Salad, another went with the Creole Pork tenderloin medallions, and I went with the Cochon Po’ Boy made with pulled pork. We all chose the Balcony Garden cocktail that was ah-mazing. My only regret is that we were unable to experience the three course Sunday Brunch with endless champagne, but our Groupon was good for weekdays only. You can’t win them all, but I feel like we still one this one.

The best meal I’ve ever had. Order the Osso Bucco. The strawberry shortcake is wonderful. Whipped cream looks like ice cream. Beautiful brown suede booths and cool décor. Friendly staff. Go here before it becomes too popular — because it will.

Really, Jackson? Closed for Tropical Storm Lee? There was no flooding and the wind was not THAT bad. At least say you’re closing for Labor Day weekend or that you have maintenance issues. Or hell, just say y’all don’t want to work. What a sorry excuse.

Well I did not want to believe the other reviews but sadly it is so. Jackson is located on one of the only scetchy blocks of magazine across from a small park where random homeless people sleep at night. We had to navigate several of them while parking. We had been given a Groupon as a gift(they only honor them Tues-Sunday) and went at 7PM in the middle of August on a wednesday. The restaurant was nice on the inside and totally empty bu(t I assume) the owner who was also the host refused to seat us because we did not have a reservation. I asked him if I could make one for later at which point he told me they were booked solid for th next week. Because the Groupon was expiring the next day I tore it into pieces and handed it to him and said«Thank you very much for your total lack of consideration. We won’t be back ever.» As we exited the from of the building, now both tired and hungry, the owner decided to chase us out the door and started to yell at me about how I had embarassed him. I guess turning away hungry customers that come to his pretentious little dive is sport to him and he doesn’t hink we have feelings or deserve respect. With my 6 foot 5250 lb boyfriend looming behind me I said«That is not the way you treat people in this city. When your restaurant closes you deserve it» He froze evidently noticing the expression on my boyfriends face and the two other people across the street, cheering me on that he had done the same thing to earlier. Good luck if you decide to try this place. Don’t know about the food but get ready to deal with arrogance and mistreatment. We went to Houtons which is blocks away. They treated us like royalty. This arrogant, paunchy and selfish owner needs to go into a line of work that doesn’t have the word«hospitality». God bless his poor staff. This wins as the worst resuarant experiance I have ever had in my life. The girl at Micky D’s drive through has more class that this guy.

Jackson was such a fun surprise. Came here on a whim with my roommate early Sunday afternoon, apparently determined to undo all the hard work we put in at the gym. The plan was«salads.». The end result was boozey, starchy, fried awesomeness. I just love surprises, don’t you? The interior of Jackson is old brick, contrasted with some rad Picasso-esque cubist artwork(Carnival themed, of course). The restaurant is multilevel and a gentle jazz band was playing upstairs. The hostess asked if we had a reservation and I imagine this place can get crowded. My brunch was out of this world. Fried green tomato Benedict with sautéed shrimp and a side of jalapeño cheddar grits. I mean… just wow. It actually wasn’t too rich or too large which my waistline humbly thanks Jackson for. My vegetarian roommate had a more difficult time with the menu, as they were only serving Sunday brunch. The regular lunch menu looks absolutely amazing and I can guarantee we’ll be back to give some more tantalizing dishes a whirl. The waitstaff seemed to be constantly apologizing, which was a little strange. I know we arrived in the middle of their rotation/shift, we were«that» table with the vegetarian, but honestly once we made the decision to have a casual Sunday cocktail, any hiccups in the service were not evident to us(there must have been something. our waiter was saying«I’m sorry» every trip to the table). That is the sign of great atmosphere and a delicious meal!

I thought this place was a super pricey place, but it’s not! It a reasonably priced place with lots of great food options. My friend had the Grand Marnier French Toast. I really could eat that all day. and paired with the champagne cocktail? even better. I had their Frittata of the day. which was the healthier option than the French toast, but was still really yummy. They had a guy going around performing tricks with a playing card which was pretty entertaining while we were waiting for our food. At the end, right before our food was served, he kindly asked for a tip.

My lunch experience was 5 star and my dinner experience(a week later) was a 1 star so there I gave it 3 stars… Lunch-Great personable service, owner gave us free bread pudding because he cut it wrong?! I thought that was generous because it still tasted delicious! Gumbo was a thick roux with generous portions of seafood. Tuna salad was really fresh and made to perfection. Entrees were the chipotle hamburger(chipotle mayo, bacon and pepperjack cheese) was mouth-watering still dreaming about it good and the pulled pork sandwich with truffle fries. I wouldn’t order the pulled pork again, too much slaw or something it just overpowered it too much but my bite of the hamburger and amazing truffle fries made up for what my sandwich lacked. Dinner– Server SUCKED! Ive worked as a server for over 10 years and for me to lose patience that means alot. He didn’t realize we didn’t have menus on the table, asked me 4 times if I was sure I didn’t want a drink from the bar until I finally felt pressured enough to order one just for it to come out wrong. Filled my dates tea with not one ice cube the entire time. The soup dujour was a joke. It was a cup of broth and we asked where the shrimp were and the server said they are pureed. The tuna salad was missing main ingredients. My truffle fries came out with no «truffle» Its a $ 2 up charge and they were amazing the last time I ordered them and when I told the server he said, well do you want me to take the 50 cents off the bill? Burgers werent the same as they were just a week prior. The chef was sitting at the bar(not drinking) the whole time we were there, maybe he needs to oversee his cooks a little more. We spent $ 100 and were really let down. The nice server we had for lunch said shes leaving for a few months too :( The stuffed cookies were good but way overpriced at $ 9 for 4 small cookies. The bar selection is also minimal.

We were wondering around trying to find a place to eat that wasn’t packed when we stumbled upon Jackson. After reading the Unilocal reviews we decided to go in. What a good choice that was. We got there near closing so we were the only ones in the whole restaurant. We started with the Truffle Fries, a must, and everything from that point on was bliss. The food was so delicious and we were all sharing off each others plates. The food was definitely some of the best that I had. I’m not sure what everyone is complaining about, yes it is a bit pricier, but its not break the bank, and those damn Truffle Fries are worth every penny. This is a must check out.

The prices are high for the quality of food at Jackson, and my date and I both risked cracked teeth on the gritty Oysters Jackson. However, my cocktail was very good(the Rosemary Salty Dog) and the boyfriend’s Seasonal Vegetable Strudel was surprisingly delicious. Goat cheese makes everything better! I’d go again, but I definitely wasn’t blown away.

«Jackson» appears to be having problems. We tried again this week. As I was not very hungry, I decided to stick with the grilled scallop salad, even though expensive. It arrived with three scallops, instead of the previous six. Wife had the«Mediterranean Seafood Platter» pasta dish, which was very good. We frequent all sorts of better N.O. restaurants, including Antoines, Dickie Brennan’s, Muriel’s, Clancy’s, etc; but, do not feel that we are geting our money’s worth at Jackson’s any more. The maitre’d & waitstaff have changed, for the worse, too. This is sad, ’cause we really liked Jackson & were weekly regulars here. Sorrry to have to report this.

I really rate this 6 stars… in the past I have been a bit too generous with 5 stars, but they were good restaurants too and sometimes it is hard to compare. I have been there 5 – 6 times and the food is totally awesome with some really nice sauces and unique dishes. My wife is a Vegetarian and there are several good choices for her. We really love the salads which are unique and delicious. But what really seperates it for me is that the service is very good. All the times I have been there the owner was there and was very personable without getting in there and talking my head off. I will be back

I have been here twice now. Once for lunch and once for brunch. I have had good experiences both time. The service is always good. I cannot remember what I had for lunch, but I remember it being alright. I think it was maybe a burger. For brunch we started with bloody marry’s. Do not get them! I think this was the worst bloody marry that I have ever had. If you are really looking for a good bloody marry, head over to my house and I will make you one better than what they are serving at Jackson. But, I didn’t let this put a damper on my hungry belly. I ordered the Fried Green Tomato & Shrimp Benedict! AWESOME! Three things that I love, Fried Green Tomato’s, Shrimp and Hollandaise sauce. Yum, I might actually go back here and order this again. And it came with a side of truffle breakfast potato’s too! Delicious! I am glad the bloody marry was not a reflection of the food to come. Next time I will order the same thing but forget about the bloody marry. Great outdoor seating on a nice day!

I’ve only been to Jackson once, and I don’t think it «hooked» me enough to return. The décor was nice and the service was excellent, don’t get me wrong, but they have high-end prices and the meal I had was good, but not great. I believe that it was some kind of jerked chicken dish, which was just generically spicy without any really interesting flavor. Bottom line: I just didn’t feel like Jackson was giving me enough bang for my buck.

Coming here for my birthday lunch, I was expecting great things. This place delivered, both in service and quality of the food. Our server was really nice, and the owner was awesome, and gave us a free Bananas Foster Bread Pudding for my birthday, which was incredible. I had the Shrimp Po’boy and it was excellent, the shrimp was very tasty. The french fries were kinda eh, but I didn’t mind. Kinda expensive, but totally worth every cent. Awesome people, awesome food!

«Is it possible to get a bad meal in this city?» my husband asked as we chowed down on our fabulous meal at Jackson. Not at Jackson, it seems. He had a great shrimp po’boy with sweet potato fries that he proclaimed to be the best he’s ever eaten(and the man knows his potatoes!!). I had an amazing(ly huge!) salmon, bacon, onion, tomato and lettuce sandwich. Ok, anything with bacon is amazing, but THIS was really, really, really amazing. Great – fresh – salmon – and such a huge slab it more than made up for the bacon! At least, that’s what I told my arteries as I wolfed it down along with the truffle fries. They also had some kick-ass 80’s music playing(as did every store on Magazine yesterday). Told our(v cute) waiter that I felt like I needed some coke and X – to which a woman passing by said«oh, baby, it’s too early for coke.» Wise woman

What was done well: The atmosphere in the dining room was intimate and relaxed. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The truffle fries were delicious, and my date’s chicken sandwich was also very good. The coleslaw was a bit mayonnaisey, but the green onion was a very nice touch and complemented the sandwich’s flavor well. My chipotle burger was decent, but I thought it was a notch below some of the other gourmet burgers around town(see, e.g., the Luke Burger). The Martinis were good, but a little on the pungent side. After I asked the bartender to make them with a little less vermouth. What was Bad: The Cajun Scallop Salad. There were two important things which were wrong with this dish. First were the scallops. I know they were billed as «blackened and seared,» but they were more than undercooked. They were mushy and lukewarm in the middle — in short, totally raw. Second was the level of spice for the salad. I’m no prude when it comes to spice — I probably put more tabasco on my red beans than most of you. But this salad was so hot that any of the other flavors of the salad were completely overpowered. The jicama? It might as well have not been included. The honey chipotle pecans? They might as well have been cardboard. In light of the $ 17 price for this dish, you expect more.

I am 99% sure that this is the best meal I’ve had in years. When we managed to set the beans on fire, the lady and I decided to head out for dinner. It had been a long day, and we wanted a proper sit-down place, so we chose this place, almost at random. But dear god, did this place exceed our expectations. I ordered the roasted vegetable sandwich with fries, and it was probably the best rendition on this vegetarian classic that I’ve ever had. It was flavorful, the veggies were still reasonably crunchy and delightful, and the fries were done beautifully. After hearing our waiter describe the desserts to some diners near us, we decided to follow suit, and I ended up my meal with some magnificent chocolate-chip cookies stuffed with chocolate ganache and Nutella. Our waiter was cheerful and attentive, and the restaurant itself is pretty cool. So. Good. Would recommend, folks!

Very nice option if you are in new Orleans I went there with a group of friend and they closed an area upstairs that also has a balcony for some smokers. the food is awesome and the service is very good. I ordered a Fillet mignon which was delicious and it came with an outstanding mashed potatoes made with butter and garlic that tasted very good. As a starter I had an avocado base dip called diablo dip that comes with fried tortillas and it was an A+ dish. Some friends ordered the gorgonzola cheesecake and praised it. For dessert I had a chocolate turtle cheesecake that was good to boost my sugar levels after a hard work day but not that good.

Sunday brunch review: Simple & classic atmosphere– check Fun & creative menu – check Delicious bloody marys, mimosas, & mojitos – check Reasonably priced menu – check Super filling portions – check Now onto the food: The Oysters Jackson – Piggy-back shrimp on oysters, spicy butter and Parmesan; broiled till they curl – Perfectly cooked and delicious! Scallop & Spinach Eggs Benedict– good but way too much spinach and lacked texture – a bit to mushy. Fried Green Tomato & Shrimp Benedict – tasty but missing a texture balance. Needed something crunchy to give the dish a contrasting flavor The French Toast – one of my dining group said it was«the best french toast I ever had» That’s a big statement – try it out & see for yourself. The Truffle Fries – super truffley but well seasoned & tasty. Overall a good experience & worth the drive to that side of town. Calming ambiance, not full of tourists, good food & service, and good bang for your brunch buck!

Great restaurant! It’s nice to have an elegant and atmospheric«go-to» place in the neighborhood. Food presentation is beatiful and the owner even came out to greet us. Prices are reasonable and the menu creative. This this restaurant is a must try.
