I had the shrimp and grits($ 17). They fry the grits into a grit cake, it was different, interesting spin from what I’m use to having but I will still prefer my grits regular. I expected the sauce to be a bit spicy to my surprise it was a bit bland like something was missing. I added salt, pepper and Hotsauce to help spruce it up. I also had a appetize($ 12), the grilled oyster they were great! Loved the flavor. They made me into a oyster fan. Sitting was a bit crammed. Customer service was great and that’s always a plus for me since it’s so hard to find good service these days.

First floor smells like a wet rag. Food wasn’t that good. Should’ve known when they were soliciting for business off the street at noon on Friday. Unilocal let us down on this one. Oysters were ok, but not as creamy as Acme. Fried gator was good; tastes like chicken with the soft texture of white fish. Crab claws were tasty, but we got less than 10(go to Coops instead). The étouffée started out tasty but was a little sour a few bites in. Mentioned it to the server, who brought it up with the manager. The manager took off the price of cup of étouffée instead of the whole taste of New Orleans entrée. I guess that’s ok, but shows lack of real care, especially since he didn’t even bother to come to say anything personally.

AMAZING location(right in the heart of the FQ) but the food is definitely lacking in taste and quality. It’s catered for tourists, and def doesn’t taste like authentic NOLA cuisine. Come for the location, not the food.

Tried Royal House for lunch. Courteous service beginning to end, but that’s where the good points end. We tried the raw oysters which were not shucked well. This was the only place in NOLA during our trip where the oysters were covered in black grit(subsequently getting all over my hands and napkin) and I slurped up sand and/or small pieces of shell with the oysters. It became a surprisingly messy experience. The oysters themselves were not the freshest we had in NOLA. The other food — gumbo and jambalaya — were ok, but not memorable, especially given stiff restaurant competition in the area. The restaurant had an unappealing fishy odor indoors. It seems like a couple of other reviewers have commented on this as well. I wish I liked it more as the staff was nice.

First we arrive and get seated on the balcony. Everything leans so hold onto your drink. You don’t wanna drop anything on the table below. We order our drinks and wait about 15 minutes for my hubby gets his. It took about 15 more for me to get mine. We placed our app order of fried alligator and placed our meal order as well. My hubby got his meal first, then 25 minutes later I finally got my meal along with our appetizer. The waiter was very unorganized and full of excuses. The food wasn’t that good. Don’t waste your time or money

We double-dated here on a Saturday night in New Orleans, and our experience was wonderful. While I might rate the food closer to four stars, the overall experience bumped it to five. Our server was phenomenal. I’m so mad at myself for not remembering his name, but he has served in many areas of the country over the years. His main concern was making sure we had an unforgettable time. He gave us several thorough recommendations, from drinks to appetizers to entrees. My sister-in-law and I tried everything he recommended and loved it all. For cocktails, we had a couple Moscow Mules, the Cajun Bloody Mary, and the Berry Basil drink, while the guys had local beers. We ordered the Fried Alligator as an appetizer, and everyone picked a different entrée which included Blackened Shrimp Pasta, Pecan-Encrusted Mahi Mahi, Blackened Shrimp Jambalaya, and Fried Fish and Shrimp Platter. We all got at least a taste of each entrée, and everyone enjoyed all four dishes. Royal House is a great place to come to get the New Orleans experience!

We had a great experience at Royal House! This was our first dinner on vacation and I am so glad we ended up here. We used the Unilocal deal for the free app and ordered fried alligator from the server, who was extremely polite and friendly(forget her name, long brunette hair) The food came out quickly and was hot! The Alligator was outstanding. I went for the Shrimp Creole and the boy ordered the shrimp poboy. Also came out quick. Mine was outstanding! Such amazing smoky flavors and a generous serving. Brian liked his poboy although it was somewhat lacking, not many veggies and came with no sauce. We didn’t have room for dessert but the menu was tempting. Very classy place to stop by on your visit to New Orleans. Beautiful building, great service, and looks like some awards to back it up: check it out!

We came here on a rainy Saturday afternoon looking for some oysters, and Royal House did not disappoint! For three of us we ordered 6 raw oysters, 6 of their famous chargrilled oysters, 3 oysters royale and 3 oysters Rockefeller to sample a bit of everything. In general, the oysters were plump and fresh, and cleaned quite well(i.e. not much«grit» in the shells unlike some other places I’ve eaten at). The oysters Rockefeller were quite good — I could definitely taste some smokiness and a hint of the bacon with the oysters. The oysters Royale were also very good — I thought I detected some spiciness in the breading(jalapenos maybe?) which added an interesting perspective to the salty and briny oysters. The chargrilled oysters, however, were the standout. Wonderfully decadent with butter and parmesan cheese, these oysters were bursting with flavor and unanimously agreed by everyone at the table as being the best. Would definitely get a dozen of these next time instead of just 6. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to catch his name, but our waiter was extremely friendly and a joy to be around — he provided great service and really helped make our meal special. Bonus points for great service! OVERALL: 4⁄5 — delicious oysters, great service, and a memorable meal. Will definitely be back in the future, next time to try some entrees as well as just the oysters!

Man, this place is good. Like, really good. My wife and I visited on a recent mini-vacay trip to New Orleans and were thoroughly impressed. Everything from the friendly wait staff(a rarity in NOLA believe it or not — we encountered more rude waiters and waitresses during our trip than I could even comprehend), to the wonderful balcony seating, the presentation of the food, and the delicious flavors were well worth the price(which really wasn’t too bad). For starters, I got the french onion soup, which is one of my favorites… my wife had never had french onion soup, and really isn’t a fan of onions, but she was so intrigued upon seeing the crock-full of melty mozzarella covered deliciousness that she had to have a bite. We both enjoyed it a ton and knew we were in for a good meal. My wife ordered the fried shrimp po’ boy and I ordered the shrimp and grits(we don’t get fresh shrimp in Nashville, so we were on shrimp kick). This was my wife’s first po’ boy experience and I don’t quite think she knew what to expect, and consequently found the sandwich pretty boring(not to mention a little dry), but she did say that the flavors were delicious. I had a bite and it did not disappoint. Plenty of shrimp flavor, and a dash of hot sauce mellowed out by the crusty white roll. The shrimp and grits, on the other hand, were anything BUT boring! It was absolutely fantastic. First, they don’t do shrimp poured over a bowl of grits like you’d expect, but instead they prep the grits and then form them into grit cakes and FRY them to a delicious golden brown. It was probably one of the more unique preparations of shrimp and grits that I have ever had. No kidding — if you go to Royal House, this is a must-try. The shrimp was prepared in a tangy tomato cream sauce and topped with a little bit of grated parmesan. It had so many layers of texture and flavor — the little bit of chew from the shrimp, the crunchiness from the outside of the grit cake, and the creaminess of the cheesy grit goodness inside. We finished off the night with the bananas foster cheesecake, which was outstanding in it’s simplicity, but HUGE in its flavors. What else is there to say? Creamy cheesecake filling with what I think was a ginger snap crust, and caramelized bananas — all covered in a delicious caramel sauce. Can’t ask for a much better way to end the night. All in all, do yourself a favor and check this place out. It’s got a great twist on some of the classic New Orleans fare, and I guarantee that you won’t leave disappointed. If my wife and I get to go back to NOLA any time soon, you better bet we will be back at Royal House!

Nothing bad about this place. Service was beyond stellar. Friendly hostess and we seated right away. Had two more friends join and they had no problem getting us a bigger table. Ashton was our server and she was simply the best. She knew the menu very well and gave great suggestions. Great attitude and energy as well. The food great and I was able to try a bunch of items. I did prefer the gigantic raw oysters over the chargrilled ones. Redfish beignets I’d definitely recommend as they had huge pieces of fish on the inside. BLT Oyster po-boy was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in NOLA. I tried the crawfish shrimp ravioli as well which had a great sauce with large chunks of veggies in it and lots of flavor. Oh and if you happen to order a Bloody Mary and make it a double watch out. It’s a very generous double ;)

Came here due to my fellow Unilocalers! We wanted to try alligator while in New Orleans, so my husband and I ordered the fried alligator, oysters duo, and the seafood pescadore. Our server, Tina, was really friendly and helpful. She recommended the Absolut Strawberry Lemonade and Mandarin Dreamsicle. We got both, and I loved the lemonade! It was refreshing, fruity, and sweet! It had a strawberry and two slices of lemon in it. My husband got the Dreamsicle, and we expected it to taste like a creamsicle. It kind of did… but also kindof tasted like medicine. We would order that again. The fried alligator had moist meat, and came with cocktail and tartar sauce. It was good, but tiny portions. We saw a video of the oysters duo, that it’d be sizzling when it got to the table. It wasn’t. And, it was lukewarm, at best. We came when the restaurant was pretty empty too, so I’m not sure why our food wasn’t hot. Also, taste wise, for which I’m not sure temperature played a role in, was mediocre. Acme chargrilled oysters are WAYBETTER. The pasta, Tina recommended we swap out the marinara sauce to a white wine sauce. It was a good idea! So tasty! Again, portions were tiny, and I’m pretty sure we had empty clam shells, but the scallops were cooked really well. Overall, pretty tasty food, but just tiny portions. Also, we couldnt get a free appetizer from their Unilocal deal, because we have to order two entrees, and we didn’t :(

This place is a must for my wife and I. I know we will be back to NOLA and knowing that Royal House, Meals from the Heart are must returns for us. When we think of NOLA, my wife and I remember this place and the crab claws. The Royal House is that vivid for us. Ambiance: Loud, hustle and bustle of the FQ. Expect it and plan accordingly. Music outside and just a block from Bourbon. This side of FQ has a tamer side to it. If at all possible try to be seated upstairs and in the balcony if it’s just you and a date. Expect to wait for dinner. Price: $$ You are paying for quality here. Food: Crab Claws 10⁄5 This dish alone will bring your back. It did for us. They use a cajun compound butter with 18 – 23 pieces of crab claws. We’ve counted since we’ve had this dish 3 times. It comes with 4 pieces of buttered french bread. I’ve looked up the recipe and they call it a Bourdelaise Sauce. Truly an amazing dish that is great and consistent. Give yourself time when enjoying this dish. Don’t pair it with too many things that would clutter your meal. Space it out and enjoy it with a drink or two. This dish is that amazing. Redfish Beignets 4⁄5 It was definitely a treat and unique to NOLA. So imagine funnel cake with fish inside, powdered sugar, and a spicy cream sauce. It sounds like it shouldn’t work but this almost exemplifies all of NOLA. I don’t know how but this dish works. Logic and common sense would tell you«no» but this dish screams in defiance what the world is telling you is good. Drink: N/A Only had water. It was super humid even at night. Service: 10⁄5(for the 2 visits we were there) I honestly can’t say enough about the service that was provided here from Chris. Very knowledgeable and understanding. First off, Chris is more of a guide then a server. He leads you to where you want to go. He does it in a manner that is very enjoyable and comfortable. He truly led us to having a wonderful night. If at any time you can remember your server’s name from 2 weeks out it says something about the time you had at a restaurant. Royal House, I’ve already spoken to a manager but I truly hope you can appreciate the type of employee you have in your institution. Never allow him to leave.

We tried coming for dinner around 8pm on a Sunday night. The wait looked long but the hostess stand was a bit crazy. We put our names down but went to check out another place instead. We returned later in week and just got oysters. They were very big but lacked any flavor. I’ve never had raw gulf oysters so perhaps that’s how they taste? I love horseradish with oysters but theirs had no flavor and I could pile it on. Not a bad price compared to west/east coast oysters but probably wouldn’t get again.

Sigh. I really wish I could give this ANYTHING higher than a 2 stars. I had pretty high expectations after seeing some of the reviews here(even from other Unilocalers that I know). My friends and I were able to get a seat here 10 minutes after calling in ahead of time the day of(A Sunday). We were seated in a awkward long table by the second floor entrance where the noise level was a bit excessive. People were coming up and down the stairs so it was a bit hard to have a conversation. Our server was friendly enough, when my boyfriend found a rando piece of sharp clam shell hidden inside his NONSEAFOOD Chicken Sandwich, our server was quick to correct things by bringing out the restaurant manager. Overall, it was a subpar dining experience. After being seated almost immediately we still had to wait well over an hour for our food to come out, the clam shell piece incident kind of had us all wary of every bite we took. The food in general already was pretty bad and everything was pretty pricey. Specifically I’d like to point this out in regards to food but we ordered what we thought was shrimp and grits — HOWEVER, this new version(as of 05/15/2016) SUCKS. It was two fried blocks of grits, covered in this insanely weird creole-y sauce with way too much cheese covering everything. 3⁄8 of us ordered this dish and collectively agreed that it was pretty much sadness on a plate. Another thing that was way off– the mint julep. SUPER strong with little to no mint/sugar flavor to compliment it. My friend actually had to ask our server to bring it back to add some sugar to offset the insanely strong alchy taste it had.

Snapshot: 4.6÷5 Freshness, 4.5÷5 Service, 5⁄5 Menu Options Great seafood creole restaurant in the quarter. We sat at the bar an Brandon provided excellent service, thanks. The gator bites are lightly battered and tender. The gumbo was fantastic. I highly recommended the blackened Redfish. It’s a huge piece accompanied with red potatoes an string beans. Save room for desert as the bread pudding was unbelievable. I tasted the brownie and it melted in my mouth. Overall, great service, fresh food and reasonably priced.

Royal house is for tourists… like me… The first floor bar smells like a old, moist towel without laundry for three months. Part of it came from the oyster, and the guy open the shells does not ware gloves. He also chatted with customers and shake their hand before going back to open more shells. No oysters was on ice before or after the the process. Ice only met oysters 30 second before your table. Lisa A Elfer is the one who signed their health certificate. He also rubs his face with the same hands. Health Alert!!! I am sitting on the high chair for ten minute, and finally get a MENU, covered with unknown liquid. The bar is lovely if you can hold your breath. I was not brave enough to order oyster that night after I saw the opened oysters were sitting on the counter without ice. You are surely braver than I am. I finally ordered fried gator meat, and taste of New Orleans. unlike other places, they could not do the gator meat blacked. I guess seasoning requires more skills and good spies. I was so glad that I brought my own water since they did not offer any. 17 minutes in water is in front of me now!!! The alligator is half the portion compared to what I had this week in other places. It is about $ 1.50 per bites. You need eat with your hands. Interestingly, the lemon slice amen with it was covered with shredded cheese. The gator meat is very soft, and soooooo salty. Someone tipped over the salt jar? Unfortunately, I told the staff that I will have my beer when the dishes arrive. And I never saw my beer that night. Taste of New Orleans has three cup of, crawfish étouffée, chicken gumbo, and creole. The crawfish étouffée is well cooked, with plenty of hot spicy taste. The chicken is very good too. It contains chunks of smoked sausage, and enriched with smoky flavor. Chicken meat soaked with the flavor from Cajun, black pepper in the soup is one of the high light. The creole is not among the best in town, dry and lack of ingredient other than rice.

Thanks Unilocal for hooking us up with good eats! Nestled right off the chaos of Bourbon Street sits Royal House, a two floor space specializing in Po’ Boys, Cajun fare and other Big Easy staples. With tons of foot traffic, we were blessed to have been seated in five minutes. Although our table was cramped between the bar and the St. Louis St. sidewalk, our meals were totally worth the imposition. All three of us ordered po’ boys. Oyster, Shrimp and Roast Beef. Yours truly is a sucker for a fried oyster sandwich, and boy was it tasty. Crisp coating, plump oysters and fresh bread had my mouth watering. My only beef was that there weren’t enough oysters! **I snuck a quick bite of my friend’s Roast Beef and it was delicious.** Prices seemed fair to me. The bar has a lively atmosphere with a full drink menu available for table seating. I had a local Abita beer. Service was solid and we all walked out satisfied. I bet it’d be awesome to sit on the outdoor, second floor deck. Next time, Royal House!

Ahh! I really want to give them 4 stars, but my food wasn’t even hot! And the whole ambiance was just eek… — - s e r v i c e — - I walked/drove by here several times throughout my stay in New Orleans and there was ALWAYS a line outside. Don’t be driven away by this, they go through the line pretty quickly. Just make sure you put your name on the list at the front before getting in line. It was only about a 20 minute wait so not bad at all! Once we were seated we were greeted with the most upbeat and happy waitress(oops I forgot her name… sorry!) But she was great! Super attentive and friendly! Loved it! — - a m b i a n c e — - How do they keep their line moving? Well that’s cause this place is PACKED. Seats are back to back, not the most spacious setting. Also since the restaurant has multiple windows that stay open to the outdoors, you get that humidity from outside. Lastly it wasn’t the cleaniest or freshest smelling restaurant. So overall with the crowdedness, humidity, and dirty smell… ehhh not my favorite environment. — - f o o d — - Overall, the food was mediocore and prices were ehh a bit on the steep side for what I got… [ [ fried alligator ] FREEWITHCHECK-IN! Well you can get any appetizer, but I mean when else would I be able to try alligator(you usually don’t see this in California). This was good! I didn’t know what to expect… so they tasted like popcorn chicken bits… not bad! [ [ raw oysters ] ] Good! These weren’t the best oysters I’ve had but they weren’t bad! Size wise, they were pretty small. But they fresh so you didn’t get too much of that raw fishy taste. [ [ blackened shrimp & jambalaya ] ] This was sooooooo good! They are generous with the shrimp… packed with flavor(for both the shrimp and jambalaya). I really wanted to get some authentic NOLA food and yumm this was it! The jambalya was absolutely delicious! The shrimp and jambalya complemented each other great and I really liked it! I would’ve loved it but ughh my food came out on the cool-warm side! Why?! [[ crawfish étouffée ] ] Again, I loved the flavor and everything but it was cold! The gravy was great and again it came with lots of fried crawfish tails. You definitely want to eat this fast before it gets all soggy! Overall…I’m just torn. I loved the food, but it was cold which is so depressing. Ambiance was also just not for me, but great service. This was recommended to me by many locals so it was definitely worth the try.

Good space upstairs… good Bloody Mary’s. My Crab Cake Benedict was good, but some of the other stuff was just average… service was horribly SLOW! And it was not busy, so no excuse. I am fully aware that down south the pace of life is a bit more laid back but this was beyond that. Then we ask for coffee and she brings cream out in the little plastic containers used for salad dressing! Really??? The place has potential to be better, our experience was just average.

Recomendo muito a entrada Dips of spinach.
