I’ve been eating from J East since the late 90s. It’s very tasty and basic Chinese take out. As others have noted, it’s not gourmet or fancy. The flavors are rich and yummy and the portions are good and they’re fast. This is more of a take out/delivery place; they have a few tables but it’s basically the proverbial«hole in the wall» with deceptively good food.

Had the shrimp and lobster sauce, not so good. The delivery came pretty fast though.

I ordered chicken wings and a won ton soup. I was short $.35 so they took away a chicken wing. I live next door and I come all the time. VERYUNFRIENDLY. It’s just convenient when desperate.

General Tso chicken was the best I’ve had in the city. Wonton soup was tasty. The pork fried rice was good, but the pork was half fat pieces. Fast delivery and great prices for the portions.

I never write reviews, but I think an exception can be made for having received hundreds of their menus slipped under my door as a delivery person makes deliveries to my building for the past year I have lived in said building. Needless to say, it’s annoying and just plain desperate; I have never made an order from here and I never will.

Great, greasy, fast Chinese food. Obviously this is not a gourmet establishment, but if you’re like me and looking for a nice, streaming hot, delicious container of food that will satisfy your soul, order from here. Also the lunch special is ridiculous. so much food that I could barely move after. For like less than $ 10. My body is ready.

No complain about the food. It taste good. But the delivery guy is very rude and always ask for more tip. It happend to me and my coworker 4x already. Some of us feels his harrassing us to get more money. What kind of customer service is that!

I signed up for Unilocal specifically to write this review, and I would give this place 0 stars if I could! I called to place my order. A woman got my address and then promptly hung up on me. I had to call back to give them my credit card information, and even then I was being rudely rushed off the phone! Still, I chalked it up to them being busy. The food came relatively busy, but when the delivery guy gave me the receipt, I was being charged a full $ 5 more than what the menu online said I should be. Still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and assumed the prices had just gone up. No big deal, but it was a little more than I was planning on spending, so I ended up only giving the delivery guy a 10% tip. Do you know that he actually got upset by the TIP I gave him and started yelling at me over it?! Never in my life have I seen such service. I explained to him that it was 10%, and he huffed and stalked off before I could complain about being charged too much in the first place. The food was okay, but nothing worth the ridiculous service. If you don’t mind being treated as a pest instead of a customer, give this place a try. Otherwise, STAYFAR, FARAWAY.

The customer service is terrible. The phone Order employee hung up on me and was very rude. She didn’t tell me my total or ask my method of payment. Then the delivery person called yelling at me to come down to the lobby and hung up quickly as well. He wasn’t even in the correct lobby and didn’t apologize. He also didn’t give us time to review our order. He also overcharged an item and didn’t want to fix it. The food is obviously premade since it was delivered in under 10 minutes.

J East is a standard Asian takeout place with a couple of fast-food style table & chairs. The outstanding item I like is there apple-chicken. It is a cross between General Tse chicken and sweet & pungent chicken with cubes of apple chunk in it. The portions of their dishes are very large and the two of us were able to make a meal out of one order. The price is reasonable for this area. I would go back.

The fastest and most reliable, consistent and delicious American-Chinise take out or delivery in all of Gramercy. Unfortunately the place is not inviting, not recommended for sit-down dining. If you like no frills fast delivered classic NY Chinise, you should try it!

Muito barato e razoavelmente gostoso. Não se incomode com o tratamento que parece que você está fazendo a coisa errada. E ainda que eles tenham mesa, prefira ir comer em outro lugar pra não ficar cheirando a comida depois

For chinese fast food, you can’t go wrong here. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t chinese cuisine/gourmet food, but for what it is gets 5 stars. One, I usually only get delivery from them and they’re extremely fast. I call them, get dressed, brush my teeth and before I’m done they’re already here. Two, the delivery man is a man who runs up my stairs whereas other delivery men huff and puff and make a big stink about how many stairs it takes to get up my walkup. Three — the food is always piping hot when I receive it. I don’t get anything special… just broccoli and bean curd usually which is always consistent and good. I can’t comment on any other menu items. Oh, I did order egg drop soup once which was pretty standard, but I’m still traumatized after getting egg drop soup from a now closed chinese fast food place over on 4th street in which I was delivered a roach with my soup, so I don’t order soup too often. Overall, solid fast food chinese. This is chinese soul food!

Bulletproof Chinese at its finest. Not sure how actually Chinese this place is since there is a lot of french fries and fried chicken wings on the menu but none the less my fried rice was totally as expected, fine. This place is not for ambiance really just for fast take out!

This place had a C rating a few weeks ago and now has an A… if you saw the squalid condition of this place, you’d ask for a vile of penicillin to go with your moo goo gai pan.

It’s all about the Apple Chicken. No where else in the city can you enjoy succulent chunks of breaded chicken in a delicately sweet sauce studded with fresh apple slices. Ok, really it’s just the same chicken from General Tso’s Chicken/Sesame Chicken/Orange Chicken, with that same sweet, syrupy sauce with some overripe apples thrown in for good measure. Damned if it doesn’t hit the spot though!

Had a hankering for Chinese food. I work on park Ave, but don’t always wanna pay Park Ave prices! Walked to 3rd Ave and happened upon J.East. It was dingy dark from the outside and when i walked in, it had that«dirty(good) grease» look… but was jam-packed! Had my usual shrimp & broccoli(you can’t mask a shrimp) and it didn’t disappoint. Ill be frequenting!

J East has been my go to Chinese delivery spot for the past year. The lunch specials are pretty standard fare. Not too greasy and I usually end up making two meals out of this lunch special! I must say that the delivery guys can be extremely rude, especially if they don’t think you’ve tipped them enough. Sorry buddy, but I’m not tipping you 30% for dropping off my food. I’ve never eaten at the place, so I can’t comment on the service or atmosphere there, but if you’re looking for delivery in the area, you can’t go wrong.
