FAREWELL to Mumbles: Just learned from Mumbles owner David that coming this Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, it is CLOSING :(. OMG! The nabe mainstay for past 22 yrs on corner of E. 17th& Thirst Ave, was sold to La Follia eatery on 19th&2nd. With crappy food, exorbitant prices and so-so service, La Follia could never ever garner the loyalty that folks had for Mumbles. Great food consistently, reasonable prices, great service. Wonderful brunches! We’ll miss you… David said he’ll welcome all loyalists to the original Mumbles, called Benjamin’s, which is still on E. 33rd& @nd Ave. in Kips Bay.

We were staying at Hotel 17 right around the corner and wanted a snack and a few drinks. We also wanted to watch some of the World Series game that was still on. Mumbles has the feeling of a nice NYC neighborhood bar. It was comfortable and the bartender provided great service. Draft beer was $ 5 and we ordered some apps that were also reasonably priced. Happy we stopped in and enjoyed some time here.

Ate here a couple of times in the past few weeks, the food and drinks are good. The service is great very attentive wait staff and a couple times I’ve eaten at the bar and the bartenders always up for conversation and suggestions. This is a great neighborhood restaurant for sure.

I’ve been here twice for the bottomless brunch special and had wonder experienced both times. I can honestly say my drink never saw the bottom. The staff was very attentive I’m watching for refills on my Bloody Mary. Food is good as well. My only complaint about the food is that they don’t offer turkey bacon or sausage ! Other than that I have none! I got an egg white omelette with cheese. I would definitely recommend for a large group or girl’s brunch.

Every fall my church youth group does a service project weekend and we stop at Mumbles to celebrate. We have been doing so for the last 6 years. And every time the owner and staff provides excellent service. I come with a rowdy group of teenagers and we have backpacks and sleeping bags. And every time I leave feeling like they have treated our group like any other customer. Here’s some photos from the last 6 years of our group visiting. As you can tell the burgers are not to be missed. Thanks for great food and great service!

In all fairness and honesty this review is of a meal I had a while ago but after almost making the mistake of ordering from this place again tonight I feel the need to share my experience as a reminder to myself and a warning to others… This restaurant has made me literally sick TWICE. I simply assumed it was a coincidence the first time but after turning green in the face just a few bites into my seafood risotto again a few weeks later, I realized it was mild food poisoning. Even more upsetting was the mysterious chalky, white, bitter substance powdered over my cheesecake. What the actual f — ?! No, seriously, can someone please tell me what it was that I regrettably swallowed? It was like crushed up Ibuprofen. Did the chef crumble Ibuprofen over my dessert knowing that my entrée would inevitably turn my tumtum inside out? Foodborne illness aside, the order was a big waste of money since pretty much all of the food had to be thrown away for obvious reasons.

Great place. Great atmosphere. Burgers are huge and fresh beef. Servings are more than adequate. My friend had a said that was enough for two meals. Close to two chicken breasts worth of chicken in her salad. Definitely one of my new burger spots when I’m in stuytown.

The staff is really nice here, but this place is just a bummer. It’s a relic of the old family restaurant – no perspective on its food or ambiance. Just a place to fill your stomach. Some of the apps are clearly from the frozen food aisle at Costco or the like. And the beer lines haven’t been cleaned in a while – you can taste it. I don’t know how long their lease runs, but they need to step it up before it runs out and they actually need to make money. It’s a ghost town in there and there’s virtually no reason to return.

Yum! Salad w Chicken add on, fresh and delicious… we both had the crab stuffed lobster which was generous and awesome. Split the mac and cheese w lobster add on. Also very good. Service was polite, professional, timely and very friendly.

Ehh. That’s about all I can say. The sweet potato fries were great and the drinks were ok, unfortunately nothing else was. If this place was 20% cheaper I would have said«alright» but at the price point they are going for it is just not good enough. We ordered white sangria, bad ass lemonade, sweet potato fries, grilled salmon(greasy and the quinoa side was uninspired) and the fish tacos. Tried for the duck quesadillas but they were out.

Great neighborhood bar & grill that’s been around for 20+ years! My wife & I used to be regulars when we were dating and worked in the area, so it’s a nice homecoming when we’re in the area again. You have the option of sitting al fresco or in the large dining room. Since it was a muggy evening, we decided to sit inside. Service was great as I remembered it. There are always specials of the day, so check them out in addition to the regular menu of salads, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, meat & seafood entrees. On this night we started with the ½ Avocado Lobster Salad and P.E.I. Mussels(Prince Edward Island in Can-ah-dah for you geography buffs). Salad was very fresh, though lightly dressed, and the mussels happily were swimming in a semi-creamy broth. Don’t be shy and make sure to get a second bread basket to soak up that sauce! The basket also comes with corn bread and some tasty sun-dried tomato butter(what?! try it, it’s pretty good). For entrees, we ordered the Chicken Parmagiana, which was a giant slab of chicken and pretty standard. What made it unique that Mumbles does is that they make fresh pasta and the spaghetti had a nice texture to complement the chicken. The Seafood Scampi Special came with a ½ lobster, shrimp, clams and scallops over angel hair pasta and the grilled asparagus was a nice touch. The only thing wrong with it was that some of the scallops had a weird not-so-fresh taste. My wife had the Curry Chicken & Cashew Salad, which was pretty decent, except the crunchy noodles on top were stale and not too crunchy, but the rest of the dish was pretty good. Maybe next time we’ll save some room for dessert.

Definitely decent american food, not exceptional. Outdoor seating has more atmosphere than indoor. Waitstaff was really nice! Would go back!

I actually enjoyed it. Had a simple garden salad to start and homemade ranch was yummy. Had the equivalent of the spaghetti and meatballs possibly angel hair and meatballs and the sauce was good and the meatballs were good and all was well in the world! I would like to go back and try some of their other food

For the past ten years, I’ve been dining at Mumbles with my friend Shelly, who lives in the neighborhood, probably six times per year. Each and every time that we’ve dined at Mumbles, we’ve had both a terrific meal and friendly, polite, attentive service. Where to begin about the fare? The recipe and plating of every item on Mumbles’ menu appears to have been thought through carefully. Nothing left to chance. Zero defect management. I haven’t tasted every item on the menu(recently updated), but I praise their flatiron steak burger(while I look forward to trying their Mediterranean Lamb Burger). I’ve enjoyed their chicken quesadilla, but am eager to try their duck quesadilla. I love their Zucchini Spaghetti, their seafood risotto, their herb-roasted half chicken, their seafood risotto. Whatever you order, the portion will be generous. I could go on and on in praise of Mumbles. As for the ambience, it’s quiet, relaxed, and respectful. The bar is a great place to hang out. The pours are generous. You won’t go wrong at Mumbles. They get everything right! Dennis Donohue

Absolutely disappointing. A place that claims to be a «craft beer bar» only to have a couple of choices of beer on draft. Mediocre food. Nothing stood out as particularly good. On top of that, terrible service. Who would think that waiting 30 min for an appetizer when the place is empty is reasonable? Also, mixing my credit card with the card of a person seating next to me is not acceptable. Way too expensive for the quality of the food. Not worth it. There are so many choices in New York City when it comes to restaurants, you shouldn’t settle for this one.

Awful. Went on a Saturday night around 9pm. Place was empty, which to most people is a bad sign but I dont actually judge that. I dont like big crowds anyway. But the food was just awful. $ 14 for a fried calamari that was not only a tiny portion, but disgusting and flavorless. From afar as the waiter was bringing it it looked good, but as soon as it hit the table it was a mess of fried breading that wasnt even attached to the squid any longer. It was one mound of fried breading and another mess of just bare calamari. Gross, would never go back. The one positive is the waiter was a very nice guy

A friend and I popped into Mumbles because we were starving. We needed to something to eat before sitting through a 2hr off Broadway production. Aright so we entered and ohhhhhhhhhhh I’m HAPPY we did!!! Let’s discuss deals! Ok I don’t know about you. But I like a deal! Lucky we came on a Monday and I think it’s the best darn deal they have do offer. Steak or Lobster meal for $ 28. The food was delicious!!! The menu did have all the weekly deals, but I soooo can’t remember any right now(sorry). The services was pretty decent. It was crazy busy or anything. The few diners were well taken care of. The bar for happy hour was somewhat busy. as it should be. I would totally recommend others to dine here.

After a 5am flight from AL to NYC and walking all day long we stumbled upon Mumbles as the sun was setting on our tired, hungry achy bodies. The 3 courses for $ 28 sign out front helped draw us in. The food was amazing! I had the lentil soup(I could have eaten a vat of that!), leg of lamb, and fennel mashed potatoes and my mother had the london broil. We had bourbon and chocolate pecan pie which was also delicious. However $ 5.50 for a soda with no free refills? That ain’t right…

Found this place the other night with my boyfriend and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is very cozy, love the pub vibe. And the food was pretty good too! The coconut chicken fingers were awesome, had very Asian inspired notes. The fish tacos had some decent flavor but the actual fish was undercooked. It wasn’t fried thoroughly and a bit soggy, which was unexpected in a fish taco to say the least. The portions were a considerable size for the price! I had the seafood risotto, which was to die for!!! The service was so-so hence the reason why this review isn’t 5 star. BUT, this is definitely a place I will check out again!
