Pass Stopped by for a quick msg-rich and cheap dinner. The food was decent but the service, especially the young woman taking orders, was complete crap. Interesting how rude some people are even though you are giving them your money. I guess it is true that you get what you pay for. $ 8.00 dinner special but you may have to pay extra for decent service.

I stumbled upon this place but never really thought of trying it for lunch until today. I had the chicken pad Thai lunch special with the spring roll. Service was fast and frankly it was quite empty when I went to pick up my order. That should have been a warning about how their quality of food is. Their portions were quite small and didn’t taste that appetizing. I had to force myself to eat at least half of my food to feel better about not wasting as much food. My pad Thai just tasted like vinegar all the way. spring roll was just 1 small roll that was about the size of my index finger. Would I try this place again? For 8 dollarish… I think I can get a better decent meal else where.

I use to LOVE this place back in college. they had amaaaaaazing general tso’s chicken and fried rice. We came back downtown just to eat here. yes, it use to be that good. The chef’s have changed. The general tso was like it was from a 3rd rate chinese food chain out in the suburbs. Thickly coated, it just looked wrong. it looked like sweet and sour pork that they dipped in general tso sauce. bad. bad. bad. bad. and sad. compared to how it used to be. Oh and PRICEY. totally NOT worth it. sorry

I picked up my order. The«chef» was making dumplings on a tray on a table by the door. He opened the door for me and proceeded to roll the dough with his bare hands. Pretty gross! I already paid so I took my order, looked at it(which was pretty depressing looking, I thought the scallops were water chestnuts they were so small and flimsy) and then threw out the food.

I was super hungry and decided to try Red House on my way home. I noticed it was one of the cleaner hole –in-the-wall restaurants on 14th between 3rd and 2nd Avenue. Service was your basic no nonsense kind of «What do you want» from Asian restaurants with nary a hello. I ordered a beef lo mein(very greasy) and wonton soup. For $ 3 for a pint, I thought the soup was a good deal. Holy eff… the soup tasted like kerosene! And the wontons were so big and chewy… and un-wonton like. Woke up the next day with a headache. You could do better on this stretch of 14th Street.

Understandably most Chinese places like the hole in the wall restaurants have sh***y service but Red House looked a little better. Clearly I was mistaken. Not only did I not receive my order but the restaurant had no clue what they did with the seamless order. The lady on the phone said she will return my call immediately after following up with the delivery boy but. why bother when the starving customer will call back to inquire. Do yourself a favor and pick another Chinese takeout than this place. You’ll find one at every corner of NYC. One can take a person out of their motherland but one can’t induce mannerism/courtesy into someone who just doesn’t want to learn.

Ordered seamless from here. The food came on time but was extremely cold and there seemed to be grit/dirt in my soup. The chicken and broccoli was extremely bland. Not ordering from here again.

I came here for a quick pick up. I ordered the orange chicken and sesame noodles. it was not good. the only this was was good was the pork fried rice that came with my lunch special. the orange chicken was all fried fat and barely any meat in there i ended up throwing it out. the cold noodles were covered in a «peanut sauce» it was actually(i’m not kidding) just regular peanut butter. my boyfriend, his bother and myself couldn’t stop laughing at that. I heated up the noodles just the melt the peanut butter a little and spread it and they tasted OK but not great. We definitely won’t be coming back, wasn’t for us.

I have always order from another place, which i thought was the best. But Red House is now my favorite. My order comes on time and I have no complaints. They have the best hot & sour soup ever! Thank you for also being so reasonable as well!

I ordered chicken Mei fun lunch special from them thru seamless. It took them forever to Deliver my food. I had to heat it up. Not to mention the disappointing small portion, it was tasteless. I also ordered a hot sour soup with it. The soup was half full. I will never visit them again. Such a terrible lunch experience.

One word: Dangerous. I called in a delivery order to try this place out for the first time. The gentleman who took my order seemed rushed, and not very pleasant, but took the order, so I figured no big deal. Not unusual for NYC. I told him my address was X Lexington Ave., with the cross streets of Gramercy Park N. and 22nd St. After a while I received a phone call(and saw that I missed two phone calls when I was putting in a load of laundry). It was the doorman of another building at X Washington Square(not X Lexington Ave.). He said there was a confused delivery guy there thinking I lived there. So I gave him my actual address, and he wrote it down for the delivery guy. A little while later the delivery guy finally made it up to my apt. It turned out it was the guy who took my order, so he started YELLING at me LOUDLY like a lunatic saying I gave him THEWRONGADDRESS. I calmly said you clearly misunderstood me., and that I know where i live and I know I said Lexington Ave. He wouldn’t give me the food and said no, you said Washington Square. I said why would I think I live in Washington Square? And I told him I didn’t say that, but was thinking I probably shouldn’t take the food from this guy since who knows what he might have done to it. At that moment he then got in my face very aggressively like he wanted to fight me, and yelled other words that I couldn’t make out. So I shut the door in his face, and called building staff to escort him out. Very difficult to communicate with, and very angry and dangerous people. Hopefully they go out of business soon and a better restaurant replaces theirs.

This place is fine if you do it right. Get the lunch special and upgrade to white meat if you’re ordering chicken – it’s a lot better. Also always go for the soda over the egg roll(which is really small and bad).

Super very bad service and rude!!! I just ordered Lunch Special L26. Hunan Beef. And I have no idea why they said the F words to me when I’m paying at the cashier!!! They are Chinese From China!!! they are Fu Zhou people, so they speak their own language, They said«SĀNÍNEû means something like«F**K YOU. MOTHER F**KER!!» Because I have Fu Zhou friends from China so I understood what are they saying!!! Also when I call to this restaurant call«REDHOUSE» to ordered the lady who picked up the phone was Super rude too!!!

The food is mediocre at best. the delivery people are rude. The chicken skewers are all dried out, the lo mein is greasy the steamed dumplings are hard as a rock and to get them to give you hot mustard is like pulling teeth. I asked them to give me extra hot mustard. They gave me NONE! I called. It took an hour and a half and 4 phone calls to get the mustard. I don’t know what the problem is and why they don’t like to give the mustard out. This is the 4th or 5th time they didn’t give mustard. I will be looking for another take out place. I’ve had it with this place. HORRIBLE!!! Had to add this. Found a great place. The Golden Forest. Everything is so fresh. Please see my other review

This place is COMPLETELY horrible and disgusting. I ordered from seamless and had a horrible experience where they confirmed the order, didn’t bring it, made up excuses, and then upon the final call to check on the status of the order they claimed never received the order in the first place despite having acknowledged it previously. Then when I tried to give them a chance and walked in to order a few weeks after I discovered their«grade pending» sanitary grade — NOT a good sign. And, in a grand finale, the food was gross to boot. Try ANY of the other places around over this place…

my boyfriend and i have been here both in-person and ordered online countless times, and we’ve never had a bad experience. he loves the boneless ribs, and i usually get sesame chicken. i’ve also tried their cheesy wontons, which were wonderfully delicious, and the one time that i ordered wonton soup the broth tasted like dishwater(i didn’t finish it, even after adding some sriracha sauce). overall nice place for decent chinese food.

Kung pao chicken is excellent(i order it with white meat only — as i would any chicken dish) the curry is just okay. The brown rice is actually delicious and the dishes like orange, sesame, general tso’s — beef/chicken, etc. are very tasty and can be made from mild to burn your mouth spicy. Delivery has always been very prompt. Prices are VERY reasonable. I cant say it’s amazing, but over all pretty straight forward good delivery or take out. The place itself is also not too shabby and the service is warm amd prompt. I DO recommend this establishment.

Holy moly! This place really is the worst. Against my sound advice the super of my building called on the phone to order with this place. They took the order over the phone and half an hour later they called back to say their computer went down and they lost the order and the food hasn’t even been started! He just came and knocked on my door with this story and I took no pleasure in saying I told you so… I thought I just had bad luck but these guys just don’t have no clue and are completely dysfunctional! Beware– when you place your order they may call 30 – 45 min later because their«computer went down». What system are they working with? Commodore 64? Atari? Lol… how do they even have any delivery business? And they are rude and unapologetic to boot! We are going to tell everyone in the building and our neighbors!

I’ve been here countless times. I actually knew about them from ordering online. Then decided to go to them and eat. I have a good way to check if these Chinese Take-Outs are any good. A simple test is trying out the Hot & Sour soup. Not all H&S soup are created equal. I love H&S Soup and only a few selected places can make them good. When it is good, you know they got a good chef. On a scale of 1 – 10, 10 being the best, they score a 7.5 for h&s soup. Their lunch special is decent price, portion is decent, and one thing I like about this place is that they will accept credit card even for just the lunch special. Many take-outs require $ 10+ min for using cc. Also their Chow-Fun(beef, chicken, shrimp) comes with soup as well. I know other places don’t give out soup when you order this on the lunch special.

This is an above average Chinese takeout place. They have lunch/dinner specials for $ 6.95 where you can get a dish with white or brown rice, and a spring roll or soup or soda. Standard takeout stuff is offered here(sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, etc.) However, their food is less greasy than other Chinese takeouts. The choice of brown rice is nice as well. If you take the food to go, the presentation is also better. They put the dish into a plastic container tray(instead of the cheap styrofoam most other takeouts use). Portions are not huge, but definitely filling.
