I ordered the egg soup, the fried chicken appetizer, the sweet and sour pork and pork fried rice, which I consider the dishes that make or break a Chinese American restaurant. The order was delivered promptly, though i heard the delivery guy cursing because I delayed a bit in opening the door. i’m handicapped. Advantage. You pay by credit card before you get your order. They charge a mandated tip for delivery. The soup was OK. Not salty at all. The fried chicken came without its advertised sauce. It tasted so old and greasy I spit it out. Ditto for the«sweet and sour pork». it must have been made quite sometime ago. The meat was dry and chewy as leather. I was lucky. i found a piece of pineapple. The pork fried rice was. .. .lackluster. I’m used to fried rice with crunchy baby corn, lotus root, sprouts. You can forget all about it. Sadly, the reviews which warned me were correct. Another cheap, rude, lousy Chinese restaurant.

A once recurring patron, now vowing to never return to this unsanitary establishment. I’ve been coming to The Cottage for over 5 years and every time I get a little bit more upset and heartbroken. First, we noticed there was no posted NYC health code grade. You have to really be a disgusting place to get anything but an A. After we were seated we looked it up and sure enough it has a B rating. One of the critical issues was that there were signs of mice in the food. We overlooked it but we really shouldn’t have. Tonight we were seated and as we were sitting down an angry waiter came down and slammed our utensils down on the table. He threw them down so hard that they bounced off the table and shattered back down. After that we finally got our food which was more or less thrown on to our table in a frisbee like motion. Finally at the end of the night the waitress came back over to us and not only asked for a bigger tip, but then tried to tell us it’s illegal in NYC to leave less than 25%. She didn’t realize we’re New Yorkers. After saying, «oh you wanted a bigger tip?» to her, we promptly left and exclaimed«Bye, we won’t be back.»

If I could give ZERO stars I would. When I worked in Union Square years ago this was my go to for Chinese food. I recently started working in the area again and decided to go for lunch with my parents to celebrate my birthday. We all are huge fans of their roast pork noodle soup, so we each ordered a bowl. I was about half way through my bowl when I was mixing the noodles together and a CIGARETTEBUTT(black with tar, clearly smoked) popped to the surface. I’ve never been more disgusted. The waiter couldn’t understand why I was so irate and the manager was called over and she stood there looking at the soupy cigarette butt without even saying anything. We walked out and I will never return.

OK this is an update to my 3 star review. Now down graded to one star. If I could have given them no stars I would have done that. I took my wife and daughter to the Cottage today for a birthday lunch for my daughter. My go to lunch at this place is their roast pork noodle soup with cellophane noodles. We ordered a bowl for each of us. My daughter was half way through her bowl when she came upon a cigarette butt in her soup. We instantly stopped eating as the soup probably came from the same pot. I called the waiter over and showed him the cigarette butt he called the manager over who stood there speechless. We all got up and left leaving our contaminated bowls of soup behind. This restaurant should get a «C» rating from the board of health. The C will stand for cigarette butt. There are plenty of other good places to eat in the Union Square area, I suggest you patronize one of them. I’m going to miss that soup, oh well. You’ve been warned…

Ate here for the first time last Sat. at 5:30 pm, right before their rush for tables. One dish we had was outstanding and deserved the 5 stars: Lake Tung Ting Prawns. The ingredients were fresh, perfectly prepared, beautifully presented, and plenty for two people, although that had not been our intention. Also their prices were very reasonable, and the décor a step above that found in most neighborhood Chinese restaurants. I look forward to returning to try other dishes, or to ordering them in, now that I’ve learned that they’ll deliver to where I live in SoHo.

Delivery came FAST. Egg roll was great and the fried dumplings were good. Sesame chicken really could have been better… a little bland.

The food here is delicious and the price is awesome! The ten ingredient pan fried noodle is to die for. The staff here are very friendly. Great place for lunch!

They hung up on me when I called to ask where my food was an hour and a half after I ordered. This place may have the worst service of any restaurant in the area. Plus the food was mediocre at best. Stay away if you respect Yourself

A+ for Chinese Food! Their delivery service is tops, everything arrives well-packaged. Their Lunch Special deals are excellent, always fresh, try their Chow Fun Noodles if you really want a huge portion of food!

This is a better than your corner spot Chinese restaurant, even though it is in fact located on a corner. It’s not exactly the place you go for an authentic experience, for crying out loud it’s called The Cottage and looks like spruced up saloon, but it is where you go when you want the greatest American comfort food there is — Chinese food. The Cottage is where I will readily go to get slightly better than average Chinese food on a nice plate, maybe with some tea on the side if I’m feeling frisky. Service is fast, the wine and beer list is long enough to have a little something for everyone, and the menu plays to all the standards plus a little something extra. To those who expect something more than this, if you want five star dining, go to a five star restaurant. Oh and to the guys seated next to me who called their meals underwhelming but said, «It’s just that there aren’t really any other decent Chinese food places around here.» Well fellas, if you cared that much about Chinese food it might have helped if you hadn’t ordered Thai dishes. Seriously though, it’s called Pad Thai, not Pad Chinese. Think before you dine people. Think before you dine.

Ordered delivery. 3 hours later, still not here. Called multiple times, they always say it’s «on the way.» No communication whatsoever.

The lunch specials are such a good deal. It’s pretty standard Chinese food. Nothing exceptional, but still very good. The noodle dishes are a bit bland for me but any of the sautéed dishes are great. If you’re looking for a good meal at a good price, then eat here.

SInce my last review, I would say the service improved a lot. My favorite dish is roast duck cellophane noodle soup. Vegetarian steamed dumplings are great also. Prices are very reasonable and the interior is great especially for a Chinese Restaurant, much upscale than your usual. Great for lunches as well.

Little confusing that they are a combo restaurant offering both a Chinese menu and a sushi menu for the for the adjoining restaurant, Azuki Sushi. It’s a nightmare for someone like me who gets overwhelmed by too many choices! Like its adjoining restaurant, The Cottage has decent food(had the spicy prawn with veggies), there’s lots of space(great for groups), and very attentive service – although not the most helpful with suggestions. A solid place when you’re in the area, with a group, and/or want lots and lots of food.

Always tasty, fresh and polite. Never greasy or gross like your average«hoodinese» joint. Free wine with purchases over $ 10(pretty basic, decent taste). Only issue… it is often littered with pretentious students of the NYU variety«feigning intelligence» sauced off boxed wine. UGGGHHHHHHHH stfu! This is a relaxing neighborhood place.

I’ve ordered take out from The Cottage a couple times and it’s been hit or miss. Their fried rice is surprisingly delicious but pricey at 9 $. Their beef noodle soup is also great but I’ve had worse luck with their Szechuan dumplings, scallion pancake(pretty much just fried dough), and chinese fried chicken(how do you mess up fried chicken?! I came here for sit down dinner here the past Saturday after hearing of their sake and wine deal! If you spend 20 $ min on food, they serve you with unlimited sake and wine! I was out day drinking with a couple of friends and started to get hungry and we decided on this to keep the buzz going! We had a party of ten and they were good with bringing out sake and carafes of white wine for us all to keep us going. Now. the liquor itself was pretty disgusting the sake tasted like dirty water and the wine like … watered down wine. But what could we expect for. free kind of? The food was good enough and I quickly learned that 20 $ worth of Chinese food was way too much for one person for one meal. The only good thing that came out of that was I had tons of leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Think I may be sticking to the food only as take out.

All you can DRINK wine! Did not know what I was gonna get myself into… I never knew how the name«The Cottage» related to Chinese food, but hey, they know how to deliver a pretty decently good cantonese style chinese food. The venue is quite large with plenty of seats for a big party of 10 or you can reserved a good portion of the restaurant for a company gathering. Service: not bad, very attentive, I don’t think they asked if we were doing ok(what chinese places ever does?), but they do walk around and stare to see if you need something. Food portions: HUGE! did not see that one coming… you can definitely share many of these dishes. The best part are the prices are cheaper then many places in Chinatown… woot woot! 1) Shrimp with lobster sauce –This was a thick, almost soup-like texture, which was great with rice. –The shrimps where also pretty big! 2) Beef chow fun –Just how I imagined it back home in California… It is usually hard to find chow fun out here in NYC, let a long GOOD chow fun, and this place definitely knows how to bring the goods. –Great proportions of meat, veggies and noodles! 3) Seafood chow mien –I honestly felt this taste better the next day allowing the flavors to soak in, but it was delicious either way. –Plenty of seafood and much more worth it than the seafood dish without noodles, and cheaper! *Don’t forget to ask for the spicy chilly sauce on the side. On a side note… They do deliver! Every time I dine in, they always have a line of togo bags to deliver to customers.

This place is so close to my job and I can’t believe I have never eaten here. It is crowded here during lunch, but we were able to find a seat. They have a nice lunch option. You can get either red, white wine or soda. A soup or salad, an appetizer and an entrée for $ 8.50. I got the spring roll with the miso soup and Sesame chicken with fried rice. The soup came quickly and the food also. The rice was not oily and the chicken was very good. I will definitely be back.
