This is absolutely one of favorite restaurants! The décor of this place is up to date yet still traditional. I love the service and especially the food. My favorite thing on the menu is the yellowtail collarbone! However, I do recommend their chicken skin on the stick! My friend tried duck for the first time and she was amazed. Would love to be here again!(soon)

Let me warn you now… this review is more about service than food. The vibe I got from the minute I walked into the restaurant was amazing. It seemed small but intimate, dim, romantic and authentic. Sounds like a perfect date night spot right?! Well, I brought my mom on a Saturday night at around 8pm and didn’t expect the kind of service we received. We were told the wait would be 30 mins but it ended up being 15. Yay! We sat at the end of the sushi bar, which gave us no arm room. No biggy though… we just came to eat! Well the waitress brought out some waters to start and we stuck with water. Simple. I wasn’t aware that we had to fill in the menu for sushi and yakitori because I’ve never been to a place like this before. It would have been nice if the waitress explained how it worked. Well 30 mins later, she comes and asks us if we’re ready to order. So then she grabs the pen and marks on my menu as I’m ordering. So obviously I feel silly and told her I didn’t know I was supposed to do that and she says yeah and that she would be back. Well another 15 mins goes by and I hand her the menu with my order and that’s that. So we sat their for 40 mins… not exaggerating and they bring out our sushi. Then another 20 mins goes by and they bring something else. All in all, it took about 2 hours for all our food to come out. Food just slowly trickles in. Yes it’s tapas style but don’t take 2 hours to serve my last item. Ridiculous. I get it. Saturday’s are busy, but 2 hours for food?! I didn’t order that much for it to take that long. So, thinking we’re done, I proceed to ask for the check and the waitress tells me I have one more item left. I clearly lost track because I was paying more attention to how long is was taking vs. what I actually ordered. I just wanted to leave at that point. She apologized and said they were short staffed. It’s Saturday night. Get it together. For our meal, we ordered the tempura roll(great), short rib(good), assorted vegetables tempura(ehh), yakitori — chicken heart(ehh), white meat chicken(good), tofu(good), duck(ok), vege trio(ok). Another thing that bothered me was that I felt rushed. It’s like I’m still working on a plate and the waitress was ready to pick it up if I put my chopstick down for a second. So all in all, this specific experience was bad. It’s overpriced and not that special. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t give this place another try.

I have always like their food. But tonight has been the worst and I will never come back. Took my daughter for dinner there tonight and we are the first on the waiting list. While there are three empty tables available, the hostess told us they are for reservation. That’s fine, I understand. But when the sushi bar opened up at the same time for 4 seats, I watched her sat two different couples down separately, they were after us on the waiting list and very obviously do not know each other. When I asked the hostess why we were not seated first, she said there were only 2 seats available at sushi bar and she didn’t know the other 2 would have been available. That was such a lie because everyone in the room can tell there were 4 seats empty at the same time! They she said«oh because my manager told me to!» Its great that you have great food to serve but it’s too bad you do not have the right person to serve the customers. We walked out. Took our hungry kid next door for pizza. If there is a negative star I would have given that to them.

Basically 1 hour’s wait and the manager here SUCKS!!! We have 3 ppl here waiting over half an hour then finally they got 4 spots available. But the manager made two groups ppl of 2 go there who just arrived without reservation. They lost my business. This place S.U.C.K.S.

I’ve been coming to Teppo for years, and only recently realized that I’ve never written a review! There are many sushi restaurants in Dallas. Many, however, are more fusion than Japanese. If you’re looking for creative and fun rolls, go to those fusion-type sushi restaurants. But if you’re looking for simple, delicious sashimi and sushi, go to Teppo. For you adventurous sashimi lovers, I’d recommend that you entrust yourself to the hands of the chef and order the sashimi sampler. The sampler consists of a variety of fish selected by the chef, and is a fun way to taste fish that you might not normally order. Also take a look at the specials on the chalkboard and try one or more; you won’t regret it. For those of you with non-sushi loving friends, Teppo’s yakitori is also very good. My recent favorite was the quail, which was moist and wonderfully marinated. I don’t normally order dessert at sushi restaurants, but I recently tried their matcha toffee pudding with matcha ice cream and, holy cow… it was amazing. The pudding had a toffee-type sweetness to it, which was perfectly complemented by the somewhat neutral flavor of the matcha ice cream. I would totally order this again. So there you have it – good sushi and sashimi, good yakitori, and unusually good dessert. Teppo rocks.

So let me start by telling you all, that I am giving this place 5 stars because my wife gave it 5 stars on her review. You see, this is obviously a Japanese restaurant. My wife is a Japanese citizen… And no not 55 years removed like the old lady down the road, but like we JUST hit 1yr living in the U.S. … So, regardless of how o felt about this place, with my Americanized pallet and fondness for FAKE sushi stuff like anything with the word«roll» on the end of it, my wife wrote in her review, it’s authentic, it’s real, it’s legit… She gave it 5 stars. Who the F am I to argue with that? I would only hope she’d take queues from me of we were rating something American… Like ughh, a Chinese food buffet(hehe). Or a donut shop. The place was trendy. We aren’t from Dallas(or Texas at all) but I’m almost positive this was some kinda college area? So it’s located on the kinda street that has trendy little bars and trendy little restaurants. Place gets packed too. Maybe hit up some reservations? It’s not terrible big, and again, because of the area it’s in and the crowd it obviously draws… It can get on the loud side. Otherwise… Very friendly staff. Very clean place. No issues with how it looked. Just letting y’all know while the food was authentic, the décor is NOT what you’ll find in Japan. I can’t say this enough, but read my wife’s review lol. As for food I had Salmon nigiri(I believe in the menu they called it sushi/sashimi lol) but anyways. Super fresh. Prepared well. I had about 6 pieces. I also had 2 spicy salmon rolls. Yea, the American in me came out. What?!? I was hungry! It’s basically a «Philly roll», minus the cream cheese. I also had a miso/cheese fried rice ball. Basically おにぎり、but with a much more American twist(the cheese is NOT something Japanese people would add)… Again, no apologies. I ate what sounded good lol. It was legit. I’d eat it again. Prices were pretty low actually. So there were three of us: me, my wife, her college friend visiting from Japan. They each had a dish similar to Chirashi(sashimi over rice) and one of the fried rice balls. I had 6 pieces salmon nigiri, 2 spicy salmon rolls, and the rice ball. Add 15% tip and it came out to $ 155. Which, if you’re much of a sushi eater, and eat GOOD sushi, you’d know that that price is fairly low. Anyways… I have my go to Japanese guy here locally… However, about once a month, maybe every two months, if I’m in Dallas… I’ll hit this place up again. Das It Mayne

Very authentic sushi/yakitori restaurant. Our friend Yoshi from a sushi restaurant in El Paso recommended us this place so we gave it a try. It was a little hard to find when we were driving. Gps said we were there but we couldn’t find it so we decided to park and walk down the street. It’s kind of hard to find it at night because the entrance is a little far from the street because of the outside seats. Just look for their metal sign«Teppo». We got there around 8:30 and got our seats without any waits but it stayed packed the entire time we were there. The place was bigger than it looked from outside. I ordered«gyutan(beef tongue) yakitori», «shrimp yakitori», «grilled rice ball with miso and cheese» and«Hokkai Rice Bowl». Everything was super delicious but my most favorite was beef tongue and Hokkai rice bowl. Gyutan comes with a slice of lemon. It’s already seasoned with salt but you’re supposed to pour lemon juice over. Trust me it tastes much better with lemon juice. That’s how we eat it in Japan. Hokkai rice bowl had uni, ikura and salmon over rice. I screamed like a little kid when the food was served. Everything was perfect. Food came out super quick too, even though it was packed! I can see that I’ll keep going back to the place every time I visit Dallas.

I give this restaurant two stars for good food. In Fact, if the service wasn’t so horrific and the staff so rude, it would be great food and four stars. This is my third time here. Twice we dined in and once, I grabbed take out on my own. The service when dining in was slow, the hostess was especially put off by actually having to seat and talk to us, even though we were seated twenty minutes past our reservation time. No apologies, no complimentary anything, just a «sit down and shut up» kind of attitude. On an empty Sunday night, I came in to pick up to go food and was told it would be a half an hour. Great time for me to have some soup and tea and wait on my entrée. Nope — hostess says that’s reserved for«real customers», not customers waiting for to go food. Now I understand if they were packed, but there were multiple open tables and no rationale reason why I couldn’t relax, watch the game, and snack while I waited. Fresh sashimi and interesting sauces, it’s a same the staff misunderstand the concept of hospitality. Fresh sashimi, I would love to frequent. But I will only return due to the lack of great sushi anywhere around my hood, not because they deserve my business.

Waitress came to us and ask for 28.00 more tip after we paid. She argued with us and educate us that is manner to leave 20%+ tip. Won’t let us go till we put more money on tip. I don’t care about that additional 30.00. But no food is good enough for me to take that attitude. The owner should look into this and knowing the employee is forcing customer to pay tip.

A friend recommended this place for the yakatori, which is grilled skewered meat/shrimp/veggies. They had many to choose from but we had the garlic steak, chicken gizzards, chicken heart, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, and shrimp. It was good, all were lightly seasoned and served with a side of spicy mustard which complimented everything. Each skewer ranged from $ 3-$ 15. I love sushi, but the only roll I had here was the salmon skin($ 7), which was ordinary. They had a menu with a list of all the fresh seafood for the day, I’m assuming that changes frequently. But they also had a regular menu. We also had the musagi beef w/hotstone(I believe that’s the name of the beef, it wasn’t the waygu the name started with an «M»). It came with 6 slices of beef and a hotstone to cook it on. This was $ 20, it was super tender and delicious, worth a try. I’m a foodie, and I love trying different places, overall this place was good, it’s worth trying. It’s small with a cozy environment. You might walk out smelling like bbq from the yakatori being grilled, so I wouldn’t recommend eating here than going to the club haha. Enjoy!

This is a solid 4 stars. While there are a few complaints, this place is still great. I’ve been craving some yakitori and this place def delivered. We got many things, grilled chicken hearts, gizzards, the peppers, pork toro, beef tongue etc. All delicious and grilled and flavorful. We also got some nigiri(snapper, mackerel, and abalone), while the sushi was good, it wasn’t the best I’ve had. I do think that their mackerel was someone of the best I’ve had the other fish were quite forgettable. And the the abalone was very disappointing, I’ve had some great abalone but I’ve never found a place that does it in Dallas. I was very excited to try it! But it was very disappointing, especially at $ 15 for two pieces. It didn’t have the flavor and I felt that they didn’t clean it right. Sushi Robata is still the best sushi 0lace in my book!!! We also go the big roll, which is a very home sushi roll, think Korean sushi! Which was nice and filling. And also got monkfish pâté, which was very heavy and tasty. I did like it, but I prob won’t get it again. The service was also pretty slow, they were busy, but our food didn’t come out until about 40 mins after we ordered. Despite it all, I would still come back and I am giving it 4 stars for their yakitori. Nothing was bad and everything was good but the sushi wasn’t exciting or anywhere close to the best I’ve had. I would recommend only going for the yakitori!

As an out of town visitor, I had no clue about the sushi game in town. Glad a friend recommended Teppo though as the food and service was on point. The sashimi sampler gives you a great variety and the mackerel sashimi was fantastic. Teppo’s great advantage is the perfectly cooked yakotori paired with a great sushi bar. Stop in for skewer treats and then next door for some popsicles for dessert.

It’s a little more pricier than what I’m used to, but it’s the BEST sushi I’ve ever had. The rolls melt in your mouth. There’s the perfect amount of rice and fish, and the rice is on point! I usually pick off some of the rice every other sushi place I’ve been to, but I ate every bit here. I’ll definitely come back whenever I’m craving sushi from now on! They don’t accept Discover and there’s only one large table that fits 8 people. Other than that I believe there’s 4 tables that seat 4 each, and a sushi bar of course.

This place is seriously the best! Came here last night for date night and everything was just perfection. It is a smaller more intimate restaurant and has a very traditional authentic feel. It was very crowded for a Thursday and we were seated at the last two seats at the bar. Best seat in the house in my opinion! You get to watch the yakitori chef and sushi chefs go to work. We ordered edamame to split and it was very fresh and tasty. The spicy tuna roll was one of the best I’ve had. Amazing! We also ordered salmon and Japanese snapper nigiri which were fantastic and absolute perfection. Great cuts of fish, perfect rice, and great taste. The fish is just a perfect consistency, not fishy at all, and just the right size. We couldn’t ask for anything more. We also ordered two soft shell crab hand rolls which were fantastic! Their menu is very simple and doesn’t have all the crazy rolls that a lot of sushi restaurants have — but you don’t need it! They make the most simple roll absolutely incredible and use the highest quality, tastiest ingredients. Their sushi chefs know what they are doing and do not disappoint. Highly, HIGHLY recommend this place!

I’m in love. Overall, 10x better than Tei An & Tei Tei Robata. The environment is so calming. Although the restaurant is small compared to others, it is organized, clean, and gives off this modern authentic Japanese feel. The music is not too loud nor is it too cold like most sushi places. Service was perfect as well. The waitress was attentive and pleasant but not overbearing. We came around 5:30 so the food came out quickly and mostly all at once. The food is spectacular. The sashimi melts in your mouth and are modestly sliced. All of the yakitori is worth a try. And I love that they use real crab meat in their California rolls I know it sounds like the typical roll but it tastes completely different with real crab meat!

The sushi and yakitori here are outstanding. Also, get anything foie gras here. They have some of the best foie gras I’ve tasted in Dallas. Even though they have traditional rolls, I was surprised to learn that their omakase, although delicious, was very Americanized. You won’t get traditional nigiri but instead a fusion of Japanese and New American. I would come back here for the more traditional dishes, as they do those very well.

I’ve always loved Teppo. The parking is difficult at times, which is normal for this area. Normally, the wait isn’t too ridiculous and the seating is pretty good, you’re not sitting elbow to elbow with your neighbor and actually able to hold a private conversation. The food is outstanding. The sushi is always fresh and were always amazed by their specials. Their yakatori is always prepared perfectly. Their chefs are dedicated to one area– the yakatori grill or preparing sushi. So you know they’ve given careful attention to your delicious meat art. The service is usually pretty spotty. I feel like I am always gasping for water but luckily I am used to this from dining at Asian places. But still. My favorites: –Grilled octopus –Anything oyster: fried oyster, raw oyster, any oyster –All of their sushi, but especially salmon, mackerel and their uni(so fresh and sweet here. You can tell they only use quality uni) –Chicken gizzard, chicken heart, Quail egg with bacon, and korobuta(black pork yakitori If you have room afterwards,(if you do, you’re doing it wrong), then you can walk next door to Steel City for some pops.
