We were craving sushi and it was close to midnight. I had heard about this place so we decided to try it. Definitely underwhelming. Except for the volcano roll(which was extremely hot), everything was mediocre and overpriced, and I can’t belive four sushi rolls took an hour to prepare. Despite my asking the waitress if they accepted Amex, and their bringing my check in one of those American Express check holders, they don’t…something to keep in mind.

This place is terrible. It’s tiny, not very clean, and in a crappy area of Greenville. I don’t mind having to go to a sketchy area for food if it’s worth it but this place is definitely not worth it. The pieces of sushi are small as heck and they are not very good. Pricing is outrageous for what they give you. Paid $ 60 for 3 people and we were not full and it was definitely not worth it. Service isn’t that great either. My trip to this place was a bad experience overall. The BYOB would be it’s saving grace but there are other BYOB places that are better. Kihana Sushi is far more superior and they do BYOB also. Go there if you want a better restaurant altogether.

Food: 3⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Cleanliness: 3⁄5 Décor & Setup: 3⁄5 Environment: Pretty clean, good service. Although its not the greatest, it’s still nice and in a good location. Food: if you want good sushi, don’t go to a sushi buffet, its really not that good. I enjoyed the ethnic plates and deserts more. 3⁄5

I’ve had better sushi elsewhere. There are other places to try premium cuts but if you are in the area and you want late night eat or want to just try it out then go for it. Its BYOB. The staff and owner is nice. The place is small and quaint and they do have a patio(although I’ve never really seen anyone eat out there). They have a tendency to bang the gong when you enter and leave the building which could be the restaurants approach in providing a ‘fun’ and ‘exciting’ atmosphere however it does get annoying and it can be embarrassing more than fun if you don’t like the gong attention. Really the only dish I can think of that stayed with me and that I actually truly enjoyed was their HOUSEROLL!!! Its amazingly good. Spicy, crunchy, nice sauce added to it and with a side of spicy mayo it is a real treat. There are creative rolls on the menu but again I wasn’t to sure about my yellow tail or tuna’s quality.

I’ve heard from friends that this once-hallowed spot has taken a tragic downhill slide, and is no longer 24-hours. This doesn’t surprise me, but it does break my heart.

Ok, it was K Tokyo, some say H Tokyo, but we refer to it as «Dot Tokyo» since the letter is gone and all that remains is the dot. We also call it sushi karaōke, since they do have both sushi, and karaōke(take That, Keniche!) I have only been once, don’t recall the food(neither awful nor excellent) but I remember bringing in our own booze but staying so long we made a run next door to restock. We were in the back room, about 6 – 8 of us at a table, with a few other tables in the room. Once we got our Ob-Nox on, the not cool people left and the rest who dared stay ended up singing and dancing with us. In fact, our table(a somewhat yuppie, guys with Prada wallets crowd) joined with a few members of the neighboring table(an androgynous, skinny black jeans wearing crowd) and did duets, which was highly entertaining. Definitely not recommended for an anniversary dinner, but if you havent had BYOB sushi karaōke, you should put it on your list!

Sushi was decent. Prices were too high. $ 90 for 3 people(who each ordered two rolls) is too much. Décor is weird — walls are all black, windows have black shades so you can’t see out and it’s too dark in there. On the plus side, they’re open till 1am. But I far prefer Teppo across the street — I liked the sushi at teppo better, and teppo’s atmosphere is better.

I don’t play around with my sushi, and K. Tokyo doesn’t either. My friend and I were having a massive sushi craving, so we ordered a bunch of different stuff. I was even feeling brave enough to try eel for the first time. Rainbow Roll — awesome Dragon Roll — OK Volcano Roll — freakin’ awesome Eel Roll — it was OK, not as bad as I expected. BBQ Texas Roll — pretty darn good We were also given a «house roll» as an appetizer and weren’t charged for it. Free food always tastes good, but this roll would have been good even if we had been charged for it. The rolls were big and we left feeling completely full. Our waiter was really nice, but the appetizer of edamame we ordered came out with the meal, and the rolls took a long time to come out. I can’t really fault them for that though: we ordered a lot and we were there during a slow time. The interior is painted black, so it’s slightly dark in there, but not so dark that you can’t see the sushi chef at work behind the bar. They were playing some funky Japanese dance music when we were in there — at 2 pm on a Monday. Which made us laugh periodically through the meal. The waiter also told us that they should have their liquor license in about a month or so, which will be a little sad for everyone who likes to BYOB — so FYI.

Yet again, Unilocal needs a half star system because I would give K. Tokyo 3.5 stars. I definitely enjoyed my time at K. Tokyo. The service was great. The staff actually kept on apologizing for being slow because some college kids were having a party in the karaōke room. No apologies needed. I still got my food when I wanted it, and they were quick to fulfill my requests. Now, for the food. Not the best sushi I have ever had, but a very enjoyable meal. My friend and I got way too much food for two people. Add the free house roll they give you on occasion, and needless to say, we were stuffed. A happy satisfied stuffed though. The white tuna and yellow tail sashimi was excellent. Very fresh. Great texture and flavor. We also got the Canada and Vietnam rolls. I honestly could barely tell them apart when eating, but whichever one I grabbed, I was happy. Oh, lets not forget BYOB. I wouldn’t bother going to whole foods unless you want a nice bottle of wine. The convenience store next door is pretty well stocked.

The sushi was ok. It wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t the worst I’ve had. The salmon nigiri was good– fresh tasting and sweet. The spider roll was just ok. It was fried a bit heavy and doughy, as opposed to tempura style. As for the amaebi, which has become one of my new faves, the shrimp itself was good. The head, like the spider roll, was fried in a similar fashion. They also have a Karaōke machine and it’s BYOB. 3 stars.

Saw some early buzz on the message boards about a new 24 hour sushi joint on Greenville Avenue, so we rolled in around 9:30 last night to check it out. Warning: upon your arrival some member of the staff will rush to the door, reach over your head(if you’re 4’11″ anyway) and bang on a gong really loudly to announce your presence to the entire restaurant. They will bang the gong repeatedly upon your departure. For someone easily startled by loud noises(me), this makes for a nervous, distracting meal as patrons come and go. The menu was a mix of Japanese and Korean dishes, and the staff was all Asian, which was initially a good sign, but I stuck with the sushi menu. I ordered the philadelphia roll($ 6.99) and the tempura shrimp roll($ 7.99). They were both significantly larger than I’m accustomed to. The philly deviated from tradition through the addition of imitation crab and cucumber, while wrapping the salmon(not smoked) around the outside. The tempura shrimp roll was marred by the same crab and cucumber. I remedied the situation by dissecting the rolls to my liking. The waitress brought another roll, on the house, but I couldn’t understand the name she murmured. Underneath a loose beard of panko bread crumbs, I detected a layer of spicy mayo, more imitation crab, and other miscellaneous soft proteins. It was tasty, though what isn’t after you smother it with that spicy mayo? All in all, the sushi was nothing to get excited about. I’ll likely never choose to have dinner there, but it will make for great post-2:00AM sobering grounds.

I hadn’t heard of this place pior to a week ago. I was with Jim last night at K. Tokyo. We grabbed the karaōke room and setup a table. The place is old and a bit dirty for a sushi place but goes with the Lower Greenville vibe. We had a large group… we waited for about an hour for any food to come out. Not many customers either. I was starving. Food was good, service was not. Karaōke machine broke during our birthday group singing session unfortunately. There is a picture of the sushi chef/owner in the back room. He was on CBS this morning at some point. Nice little guy. Overall decent if you want a quirky little place that is different than most Sushi restaurants.

Gong! Thats the sound you’ll hear announcing your arrival at K. Tokyo. I went there for a bday party last night in the back(Karaōke) room. We were a large party and so we ordered 3 «boats» of misc. sushi, and most of it was quite good, and a good value. K Tokyo being BYOB, we headed next door(to the mini mart) to pick up some chilled sake. My friends tore up the Karaōke machine, and the chef even came out and sang a tune for us! All in all, a great night. I can’t imagine ever needing a sushi fix at 6am, but if so, I’ll know where to go.

If you want Sushi and Karaōke 24 hours a day then come here. The couple that works here are very hospitable and kind of eccentric. I think they live upstairs. Anyways if the door is locked just knock and wait, they will let you in. They just keep it locked during late hours of the night. The karaōke selection is decent and the food was very good. Always a good time.

Went there on a Thursday night… Portions were pretty big and tasty for the rolls… raw stuff was great as well… definitely not a crazy high end place… your dollar definitely goes along way here. Don’t miss out on some of the appetizers that are off menu. they are definitely worth asking for. The owner is pretty cool and will sit down and have a drink with you. This place is byob and everyone that comes in knows it. There is a liquor store next door or a Whole Foods across the street. If you go there after 9 pm beware of the trashed college kids attempting to sing karoake. .they are more into the screaming than singing.

Dallas and Sushi? Sounds like an Oxymoron? How about Sushi 24 hours a day WITH a karaōke bar. Impossible you say? Nope, it’s all here and all wrapped up right in Lower Greenville. I first visited K. Tokyo the second week of its Grand Opening. Talk about dining experience. You are greeted by several broken English hellos by the staff and managers of the establishment and a grand gong is used to mark your arrival. We got free sake, free sushi rolls, and an awesome dining experience overall. The owner Kang, Dae Soo is a world reknowned Korean/Japanese Sushi Chef that has over 35 years in his career. He has also published a book on the art of sushi making which is displayed proudly on every dining table. K. Tokyo is my favorite sushi bar in Dallas. It beats all competitors with the service, food and dining experience. Try the homegrown Dallas-based sushi specialty rolls. They are to die for!
