My dad is obsessed with this place and has been bringing me here since I was about 5 years old. It was exactly how I remembered it and not much has changed. I had the burger and fries combo and the burger was decent. Not amazing but not bad. I love love love breakfast for dinner so I’m not sure why I didn’t go that route but I will the next time my dad picks the joint. My sister has a severe shellfish allergy and they have it on the menu and didn’t seem to understand the severity of it so just be very careful. I love that this place has been around for so long and is literally a hole in the wall kind of joint in between one of the hippest parts of Dallas.

This is a run down little greasy spoon café. The hamburgers are good, but not great, and the french fries are not good, probably from frozen stock. I’ve been finding some great burgers in Dallas, so I probably won’t be back.

I am a recovering quadriplegic with a C6 and C7 fracture to my spine that caused paralysis to most of my body. After 2 years of therapy I am now able to walk with assistive devices(i.e leg brace, electric stimulation) and either the owner or a manager at this restaurant came outside and yelled in my face for parking in a handicap parking spot. Even though I had my handicap placard up on my rear view mirror. He cursed at me and threatened to call the police. It was completely unwarranted and an extremely rude thing to do to someone with a disability. If this is the kind of people you want to give your money to then go ahead. But if I had a say in it my advice would be for you and everyone you know to stay away from this place.

If you want an inexpensive burger or gyro this is the place! Their burgers are on par with the $ 12+ burgers I’ve had other places and the owners are always so kind. I love the vintage feel as well.

Come here for your neighborhood breakfast diner! My husband and I are regulars here. Their scrambled eggs are to die for! Cheap, fast, and delicious! The 3 brothers are dolls as well!

The food was ok at best. We came in about 45 mins before closing and were treated like we we ruining their night. We finished our food 10 mins before the stated closing time. We had barely finished our meals and we rudely told to leave. Not asked to leave but told to leave. Worst customer service ever! I recommend that you spend your hard earned money on much better food somewhere they respect their customers. We will never go back

Thought I’d try this place out. Well not my kind of place. Younger crowd and not my style. But if I was 22. I would have a ball here.

This place has been around Lower Greenville for a long time and tonight is the first time of getting my hands on their food. Oh my, how in the world I’ve never thought about dining here before? The burgers are cheap and fresh and juicy. You can have it your way. Best of all they serve good olé’ steaks! Like a big chunk of meat steaks! I didn’t get one but when I was at the counter ordering my cheeseburger, there was one on the grill and it looked so inviting and it’s taunting me to order him… Ugh. But next visit would definitely a steak night. I can’t wait! I highly recommend this place.

It looks like this place has been around for awhile but it doesn’t have many reviews! It’s easily passed up by people because of the more«happening» places around Lower Greenville… however, I recommend trying this place if you’re looking for an old diner feel with some comfort food. They have chicken fried steak, baked potatoes, onions rings, fries, etc. And then they have Greek food! I thought their fish was very fresh and tasty. Overall, very standard(other than the Greek touch).

I am only reviewing for breakfast. I have been here twice and have had the western omelet. They put lots of ham, bell pepper and tomato in the omelet. Has a great hole in the wall vibe. Very friendly staff and feels like a local only kind of place.

Walking through the doors will take you back in time. 1975 comes to mind. As you’re standing at the counter ordering your food, be it breakfast, lunch, or supper, you kind of expect to hear«Landslide», or «One of These Nights», to come blaring from the juke box that is at the far side of the room up against the wall. Instead you hear nothing, unless someone takes the time to go over and play a tune or two. This joint is owned by four brothers from Greece. From what I’ve read in other reviews they opened in 1970, and, have survived the decades. Kudos to them! I love local joints. I love dives. This is a true local dive. You order at the register, which is an arms length from the food prep and grill area. Grab your own coffee, silverware, etc. Next, find a seat, check in on your Unilocal app, and, look around at all the faded pictures of different places in Greece while breathing in the old grease smell coming from the fryer. This place does burgers, steaks, sandwiches, and, breakfast. My experience here has been for the breakfast. They have a good breakfast deal for under seven dollars that includes two eggs, hash browns, choice of meat(bacon, ham, or, sausage), and, toast. Sometimes you get a fresh slice of tomato, which I love. I always order my eggs over easy, and, these guys get them just right. They never disappoint me on that. As for the hash browns, bacon, and, tomato, well, they are never consistent. I like my hash browns to be more on the crispy side, and, less on the chewy, gummy side. I have found that it depends on whose doing the cooking. Sometimes I get the browns more on the decent side of what I like, but, mostly I get them on the under cooked side of what I don’t like. The bacon is always the typical greasy diner cheap stuff, but, they don’t over cook it, which is a blessing. My problem with the bacon is the quantity always varies between four slices or three. The fresh tomato is yummy, but, it doesn’t have that«garden fresh» taste, and, you don’t always get it. Not sure what the deal is with that. I like this place as it is. A total dive that is trapped in the past. Perfect! Because I am knocked down by the old grease smell, and, not sent into a food orgasm from the freshly fried bacon smell, and the fact that they are never consistent with the breakfast, I’m gonna give them three stars. I took my bacon and I grabbed the browns. I snatched the eggs and I hit the town…

Straight out of a scene from pulp fiction, this place is vintage! I’m sure 30 yrs ago it was the smokey diner with lots of activity. And it feels like I took a time warp and I love it! It’s nothing fancy… it’s simple. basic and uncut. This is where good friends make great memories.

I came in for lunch and had a Ribeye Steak, and left full and satisfied! Neighborhood restaurant that borders on a «Dive Joint». Very clean restaurant w/extremely nice staff. THEYDOTAKECREDITCARDSNOW!!! Some of the other reviews said cash only. From some of the other reviews, I understand the breakfast to be excellent as well. I’ll find out soon…

I like this place. When we were ordering, the cashier said they had been there forty-three years. Since most of the similar places my parents would take me «back in the day» are gone, it was fun finding Melios yesterday while driving home. Here’s how old-school it is — NO credit cards. At first, we wandered in, saw the cash only sign, and headed back out the door, because we never carry cash any more. Then, we scraped together enough cash for lunch, and headed back in.(I didn’t see an ATM, so plan ahead.) It just occurred to me while writing that it said«no cards» and not«cash only». If they are really, really old-school, they might take checks. It’s a diner — not a New York diner, because it doesn’t have the vast variety(that nobody orders anyway.) It’s breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, steaks. We were too late for breakfast, so we had sandwiches. I had a chicken-fried steak sandwich, and my wife had the pork loin. Both were good. The chicken-fried steak looked too imperfect to be a frozen one, and it was tasty. My wife said the pork needed a bit more seasoning, but it was good. It reminded me of pork loin sandwiches from the Midwest, just grilled instead of fried. We were asked if we wanted fries, but instead of small sides, we were given one large plate of fries — so I checked the menu, and that made sense. They could have sent two large $ 3 plates of fries, but they didn’t(since we both said we wanted fries), so that gets them a big plus in my book. An order of fries is more than enough to share. The other customers seemed to be regulars who knew and talked with all of staff, and I slaw see that as a good sign. The interior is aging, but very clean. My wife mentioned how it would be gutted and redone by any of the Restaurant Rescue TV shows, but that would be tragic. It’s not just a restaurant, it’s a place in time, and we need some of those. We’ll be back.

Cash only. The Char Bar has been around since 1970 and is a staple of Dallas. All who have ever frequented the Lower Greenville area probably have seen it or eaten there at least once. The owners are two Greek brothers who had a dream and have fulfilled it with home cooking and funny banter. The food is a mix of American favorites(cheeseburgers) and Greek cuisine alike. All the ingredients are fresh and not fired up until you order. I had a Bacon-Chili Cheeseburger(not on the menu) and it hit the spot! My Aunt had a huge Ham and Cheese sandwich with a loaded baked potato. She had to get a to-go container for the other half of the sandwich. They are always happy to tweak the menu if you ask nicely. The atmosphere is diner with home flare. I would say the food is as good or better as any restaurant on the same block. I hope it never disappears from the Dallas landscape!

Most people agree this place has a very good breakfast. But one night I was in the mood for a steak in casual setting, without dropping big money. So I gave Char Bar a shot for dinner. The place is not fancy, and borders on a dive. Service is very friendly. And it seemed as if most of the other patrons were friends with the staff and owners. They had a special of a T-bone, baked potato, and salad for $ 15. My steak was served quickly, and cooked as I asked. Plain and simple, it was a pretty good steak, and well worth the price. I will retun for dinner again.

So the building has a «Now Open» sign on it so I thought it was new… guess it’s not. This is a diner-esque establishment. Cash only, typical breakfast options. You go in and order and then sit down and they bring you your food. I ordered the pancakes and they were alright, not the best… but only $ 3.10. They were out of bacon… OUTOFBACON. Note this was also as I could see them cooking a load of it behind me. Not real cool. Parking behind the building. Not itching to go back but still glad I tried something new.

The Char Bar is screaming for a visit from Gordan Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares… This place is seriously confused. I thought when I walked in that it smelled like a greasy spoon breakfast place… but it was just the grease. The décor is blue like most Greek restaurants and they even have pics Greek places? Huh? I could see the dust on the picture wire behind the photos. The more you look around, the nastier this place looks. A burger with tomato, lettuce, pickle and up charge bacon plus onion rings — $ 8.40. I’ll admit that the $ 2.70 onion rings were tasty… but the non-in house made burger was nothing special. If not for location I’m positive this place would be out of business. Sorry, but I can’t recommend this place for any reason.
