Yeah, typical mass consumer behavior is queuing up. No different when it comes to the two beancurd stores on Short Street. Most people queue for the Rochor one because of the brand but the truth is that Min Eryimin is as good, if not slightly better in some regards to their soya drink. I found it slightly richer in taste than Rochor’s. I live at Selegie House and I come to these two stores all the time and I would alternate my purchases each time so it’s been a comparative taste test for me for quite some time. So the next time you’re on Short Street, check out these guys… and perhaps laugh at the typical mass of idiots lining up next door.

When people go to short street to enjoy beancurd and soy drinks, everyone(myself included) give their attention to rochor original beancurd. I’m not one who enjoys queuing for anything. So whenever I have to wait for more than 2 people, I’ll find something else. There were several occasions and tonight was one of them where I ordered from Rochor Beancurd’s neighbour– Min Eryimin Beancurd. Taste test wise, it’s really not much different from the famous Rochor original. It’s slightly different, but it still tastes really good. I had mine the way I usually liked it, warm beancurd with soy drink in it. It’s the same price and it tastes almost the same. It’s good beancurd. My theory is the name the sign doesn’t quite attract the crowds or, people like to be safe and Rochor original is the ‘safer’ choice becuase it’s more well known. The people serving are Singaporean and I do like that. I have nothing against foreign workers but normally, if a place can afford the number of staff that Rochor beancurd does, business is just fine. I’d like to support someone who might need a boost. Try it for yourself! Tell me if you can you think they are really all that different.
