Old school. $ 4.50 for set A(2 half boiled eggs — nicely done — kaya and butter toast and a cuppa coffee). Ol’ classics playing in the background. Simple cakes that looks delicious too.

This is a nice old school café in the midst of hipster café neighbourhood. No sophisticated barrister nor complicated menu. I love every aspect of them; Traditional toast *checked Old school pastry *checked Nice ol’ kopi and yuan yang *checked Cheap price *checked I try to order different pastries every time I am there. So far I have tried the orange lamington, butterfly cupcakes, chocolate mint cake, almond florentine, almond macaron. They were all good. I like coming back for the nostalgic taste and atmosphere. Thumbs up to the team =)

Great simple spot for a traditional Singapore coffee and a snack. Serves traditional coffee and toast. Was greeted promptly and served quickly. Couldn’t ask for more. Pro: Friendly staff, beautiful building, simple menu, great prices, nice area, good for people watching. Con: Uncomfortable seats, very limited options. I got the coffee and almond toast! $ 3.5 Singapore. Would recommend any day.

Old school feel and taste. The kopi o is so aromatic and smooth. Best thing I like is the after taste is not ‘sour’. Their toast bread is also very nice. Kaya is self made, not too sweet as well. A nice place to hang out for a kopi and tea and chat over past times. Damn… I feel I’m getting old… :(

Glad to see a fashion coffee that propose traditional kopi and new version of kaya toast. In addition with a reasonable price is a good place. Some little think to become perfect place as wifi and clean the table ;)

Entering this café when it ran out of kaya butter toasts and its signature bostock is just as disappointing as entering Ya Kun when their kaya toasts are sold out or even Breadtalk emptied of pork floss buns. Understandably, it was a busy Sunday at 5pm but I still could not swallow my disappointment. Other items that have appeared in other reviews such as Cream Horn, Long Sponge Egg Cakes, Cookies, etc… were all gone. Count myself lucky or unlucky, I managed to catch the scones which were fresh out of the oven. Neither the aroma nor texture stood out and it was slightly dry on the inside. At the very least, I did manage to try it with their homemade lemon curd and kaya. The lemon curd was smooth and tart. But the kaya was not the brown version that we preferred and it was slightly too sweet. For the other kopi/tea set with choice of 2 pastries, we picked the almond biscotti and coconut tart. Unlike many coconut tarts from neighborhood bakeries, it distinguishes itself from the average ones with its sharp toasted coconut fragrance and controlled sweetness. The moist and custardy bread and butter pudding($ 2) was as good as those served at many restaurants. It tasted as if Crème Anglaise(vanilla cream sauce) had been mixed into the batter, and should be left on its own without the strawberry sauce. The pastries here are cheap and good. But not fantastic enough to draw me back unless I am in the vicinity. Perhaps it would be good if they can focus their core on only a few pastries and their coffee. I’m not very sure but was it common for kopi tiam to sell so many pastries back in the fifties or sixties?

4th visit as I’m often in the area. Freshly made bostock(toast with frangipani, topped with almond slivers and powdered sugar) is fantastic Pair with a tea with milk and you’re all set! Nice spacious atmosphere, tall ceilings, prices 50% less than Western style cafes next door keep me a loyal customer.

Quaint café and really tasty food. Kaya toast and soft boiled egg is not my regular breakfast but thoroughly enjoyed it. Set menus are 5 dollars or less. Pastries look great. I would say its great value when the fancy competitor up the road is asking for 4 or 5 times the price.

Well, the café has it’s appeal. It’s nostalgic, it’s cute, it looks really interesting. But in terms of the food, it was just so so. The idea of re-invention or modernisation of the various pastry is clever. But the pastries that I’ve tried so far has yet to wow me over. I did hear some rave reviews but I have yet to experience it myself. It’s a nice place to just chill and hang out. Hopefully if I go get a chance to go again, there’s more to savour.

I’m giving this place two stars since I do believe they have good intentions and are trying. Ok, that sounds kinda bad. We went there on my birthday for breakfast, after reading quite a bit of positive reviews online and in the media. The owner is a 3rd generation baker and is aiming to bring back traditional cakes. I’m no big expert on traditional Singaporean pastries, but the cake was really dry. We ordered both the butter and chocolate long cake and I can see why it’s meant to be eaten dunked! You really need the tea or kopi to wash it down. We also ordered the bostock, pineapple tart and optical box. The bostock wasn’t bad, but nothing amazing and the pastries still tasted bleh to me. As I stated earlier, I’m not an expert on traditional bakes so potentially I am spoiled by those Japanese cakes where everything is soft and fluffy. This place just isn’t for me. It was a Tuesday morning on a rainy day and the place was more than half full! Parking can be found around along the road depending on your luck! I probably won’t be back though…
