Only limited choices of food available here, but they have both grilled(kushiyaki) and deep fried stuff(kushikatsu and kushiage) which is such a refreshing concept in Singapore(as usually yakitori or izakaya places here only have grilled items). Btw, everything comes in a set of two sticks. I personally find most of the kushiyakis in general are not up to my standards(except tsukune aka meat balls) as they are too bland so I had to add extra salts on my own for the taste. If you plan to visit, I only recommend the deep fried stuff especially the lotus root. However, I tried both grilled and deep fried ones, here’s the verdict: Kushiyaki: Sasami(chicken breast) $ 4.9: a little bit on the dry side Tsukune(meat balls) $ 5.4: delicious Kawa(chicken skin) $ 5.4: it’s always my favorite at other yakitori joint but here, not so much, I like my skin crispy, not soggy. Sagari(beef skirt) $ 5.9: quite nice, just need to sprinkle more salts on your own Kushiage: Ren-kon(lotus root) $ 4.9: very delicious Kushikatsu: Nankotsu(soft bone) $ 5.9: very delicious Rose-katsu(sirloin) $ 5.9: tough I’ll be back for kushiage and kushikatsu!!! Not-so-serious-unnecessary-note: the lighting on top of you is quite strong and makes you feel really warm hence I find it disturbing. Be prepared to sweat even if you don’t drink any alcohol. Also, green tea is free and refillable!

This is a great yakitori place in town! Someone used to tell me, if you dine alongside with Japanese in a Japanese restaurant in Singapore, the food must be good. This yakitori place is usually packed with Japanese during lunch and dinner service, as the food is reasonably priced and served, freshly draft Sapporo beer, and a good setting which brings you to Japan. The chef carefully cut off the excess burnt meat. Goes well over beer and small talks with a bunch of friends, or just a friend by the bar counter. I particularly love the deep fried meat. It goes well with their special sauce! Authentic!

This place is quiet like a library. It’s got a wide selection of sakes. 2 stoic men prepare food on sticks — one does the battered and fried = kushiage; the other, the grilled and marinated = yakitori. Now for the taste — yup, it’s a bit of a quiet riot. Great eats indeed. Delicious and meticulously seasoned and battered. The shishamo, quail eggs and minced chicken patty stood out. Bit pricey, but worth the trip back here.

You might just miss this amidst the cuppage plaza and terrace restaurants. I did, but then when I peeped in, I knew it has to be good. I walked in with a good friend and it was a quiet and almost tensed atmosphere of serious men at work. Just a simple grill and two men working behind, dishing out sticks, snacks for the lone men winding down after a day of work. Everyone has a beer in hand, and everyone was Japanese and male. Other than feeling extra special being the only women and non-Japanese, the menu was short, sweet and definitely very Japanese. I had a few sticks of yakitori(grilled chicken) and even gizzard just to try. They are just salted on the grill, and certainly meant as snacks while drinking. Just to get some carbs going, we got Ochzuke and it was good. Very good indeed. The dim lights, quiet room with two TVs was a nice contrast to the busy scene outside. The food, authentically addicitive, we kept going stick after stick, and in the end the two of us spent $ 60+.
