Located next to the famous Rochor Original Beancurd on Short Street is Density Frozen Custard. It is a short 10 walk from either Dhoby Ghaut or Bugis MRT. The minute you walk in, you are greeted by the sign exclaiming how unique the offerings of this shop is! Originally from Mid West U.S.A, frozen custard is a super-premium ice-cream with a rich history of over 100 years. Velvety-smooth and lusciously creamy, frozen custards are lower in calories and sugar, and made with natural ingredients such as milk and eggs. As low levels of air is incorporated in the making of frozen custard, it allows less use of sugar. We heard the stories of the co-founder who studied in the US and how he fell in love with frozen custard. He and his sister then took a 6 month road trip around US visiting all the frozen custard stands and shops they could find, so that they could bring the same goodness back to Singapore. Back in Singapore, their menu offerings are simple, pick an frozen custard flavour which is limited to 2 or 3 everyday. Check their facebook for daily flavours, they usually list them out for an entire week, so you can plan which days you wanna head down. They offer milkshakes too! Perfect for the super humid and hot temperatures here. The interior is very neat and simple. The air-conditioning there is cosy and makes you want to hang out here all day! Don’t be afraid to ask for samples, to decide which flavours to get. There are tons of toppings you can add and earl grey oat was the topping I tried and I highly recommend it for just a $ 1, you get so much crunchy earl grey goodness! Wine Chocolate and Pistachio with Earl Grey Oat $ 8So I decided to try these two flavours of the day. The frozen custard itself has a different texture from ice cream/gelato. As the name goes, it is indeed«denser», very smooth and creamy, you cannot taste any icy bits. I can’t describe it well enough, but I would think of it, as a denser and thickened gelato. The wine chocolate was very chocolately, and a bit too sweet for my liking. I enjoyed the pistachio more and it went perfectly well with the earl grey oat. I always need some form of crunch with my cold desserts. J.R was very friendly and I cannot wait to hear more about his new creations. I brought up the topic that I didn’t see any earl grey flavours yet, and he said he’ll make one! YAY! On top of that, he asked what’s a good day to offer it. He’s very open to feedback and I am so ready to try their earl grey frozen custard!

It was my first time hearing about Frozen custard(located in walkable distance from Dhoby Ghaut mrt) and decided to give it a try with Mel. Y. on a humid mid-Saturday. There was only one customer sitting on one of the tables indoor when we were there. The three flavors of the day were wine chocolate, pistachio and vanilla bean. The friendly owner let us try the three flavors before we picked two flavors out. He also mentioned the different toppings that we could add on to our two scoops of frozen custard. While he squeezed out the custard from the machine(like those ones in froyo places), I was looking at the printed canvas on the corner of the store to see where it originated. To my surprise it was first invented in New York. And this owner noticed that there was an opportunity to bring something unique to Singapore and yup, that’s how this store is created in mind. The two flavored custards had smooth yet creamy texture and taste on the tongue. And they melt pretty quickly on the cup. The earl grey granola topping that we purchased together with the two different flavored custard made it more crunchy and flavorful. I enjoyed the two flavored we purchased as they are unique to our tastebuds. This is definitely a place to drop by during the humid season. Do check their Facebook listing for the current flavors as they change everyday.
