Nollywood

Ich kann mich meiner Vorgängerin nur anschließen… Eine Bewertung für dieses Restaurant zu schreiben ist sehr schwierig.
Wir sind mit dem Wissen und auch Ziel, endlich mal wieder Westafrikanische Küche zu genießen, ins Nollywood gegangen. Nach einer Wartezeit von knapp 30 Minuten ist eine Mitarbeiterin der Lokals auf uns zugekommen (der Raum war bis auf ein paar afrikanische Serienschauende Leute leer). Von der Bestellung bis zum Essen hat es auch sehr lange gedauert. Bestellt wurden diverse Vorspeisen und dann ein vegetarisches Gericht und Rind in Erdnusssoße mit Grieß. Die Soße mit dem Grieß war hervorragend. Das Rind war leider super zäh. Mir hätte das ganze als vegetarisches Gericht super geschmeckt. Es gab zu unserer Freude auch original afrikanische Fante (mit europäischer schwer vergleichbar).
Das zahlen hat dann fast genau so lange gedauert wie das bestellen. Das Essen war also typisch westafrikanisch, der Service eben auch :-)

It truly pains me to do this, but I have to downgrade Nollywood a star. I still think they rock, but the food last time I was there was a mess. I considered giving it another go before writing this, but I have concluded I will no longer eat off of their every day menu and will simply go there for the Saturday buffet (which I still think is better than Kenkey House in Sachsenhausen).
The last time I was here I ordered a groundnut stew. It came out with the wrong protein, and the flavors were just off. It tasted like peanut butter. I like the subtle hints of peanuts throughout in this stew, but for the entire thing to just taste like peanut butter is a bit much. My boyfriend’s food wasn’t too appetizing either.
The portions here are so large that it is really difficult to know where to start eating and it leaves me stressed because I can’t finish it and the pounded yams don’t hold well for leftovers.
I don’t know really what else to say except I am going to stop going here for meals unless it is buffet day for a while. I hope they can get their game back on track because I really like this place and its owner.

I cant sing the praises of this place enough its brilliant. From the food, the atmosphere and the staff everything about this place is perfect.
Lets start off with the food. I’ve eaten here a fair few times, firstly I had the Saturday buffet which is a great introduction to west African food and I highly recommend going for this if you have never had the food before as a taster. If you don’t get addicted to the Jollof rice there is something wrong with you. After that I have visited on no buffet nights and I’ve not been disappointed. I warn you the portion sizes are HUGE there is not a hope in hell you will be able to finish the portion they give you. The food is very fresh and often there is a long wait for it be freshly prepared. Occasionally they will have sold out of certain things so make sure you don’t go there with your heart set on eating the exotic meats they have on the menu.
The Atmosphere is great, often it seems to be a locals place with families gathering to have a meal together in a nice setting. They show Nigerian TV in the rooms which is very entertaining but if you sat directly below a TV can be a bit too loud.
The staff are friendly and attentive with the owner being extremely friendly and helpful. Customer service can often be a hard thing to find in Germany but this place really shows how it should be done.
They also have a couple of Nigerian beers at 5 euros for a large bottle.

Nachdem wir schon eine Weile herumgeirrt sind (in dieser Ecke kenne ich mich wirklich nicht aus wie ich festgestellt habe) landeten wir mit großem Hunger im Nollywood.
Und nun fällt es mir wirklich schwer zu bewerten, alles in allem war unser Abend, hm, nun ja etwas merkwürdig.
Als wir eintreten wollten bemerkten wir ein kleines Schild: bitte klingeln. Wir wurden von der freundlichen Wirtin hereingelassen und nahmen in einem etwas heruntergekommenen, fast leerem Gastraum Platz. Beim Blick in die Karte stellten wir fest: hier wird nicht ostafrikanisch gekocht (die äthiopische und eritreische Küche ist ja heute in Frankfurt relativ gut vertreten), sondern westafrikanisch. Ziege, Rind, verschiedene Fische, Yams, Kochbanane und Maniok — vieles uns unvertrautes machte ordentlich neugierig. Leider war einiges was wir gerne probiert hätten (wie z.B. Ziege) momentan nicht verfügbar. Wir bestellten ein vegetarisches Gericht (Blattspinat mit Yamswurzel) und zwei Gerichte mit Fleisch (Rind, Huhn, mit jeweils unterschiedlich gewürztem Spinat) sowie einen Salat mit marinierten Rindfleischstreifen. Die Wirtin/​Köchin verschwand daraufhin in der Küche. Lange. Sehr lange.
Nach einer Stunde (und der Entschuldigung für die wegen Schwangerschaft ausgefallene Küchenhilfe) kam endlich das Essen. Die Bewertung ist nicht ganz einfach, einiges war sehr lecker (Rind war gut gewürzt und zart, Yamswurzel eine leckere Alternative zu Kartoffel), der Salat kam jedoch mit völlig unpassendem Fertig-​Joghurtdressing daher und das Hähnchen war teilweise zu trocken. Nun, alle Achtung dass die gute Dame alleine Speisen für 4 Personen frisch zubereitet hat, ich finde aber man hätte uns bezüglich der Wartezeit vorwarnen können, auch da wir einen kleinen Zwerg dabei hatten, der sich glücklicherweise in dem nun leeren Restaurant ganz gut bei Laune halten ließ.
Und der Preis war unschlagbar, für die genannten Speisen plus Getränke haben wir 35 € gezahlt!
Alles in allem war es die Erfahrung wert mal ein bisschen in die westafrikanische Küche zu schnuppern, allerdings fehlt es dieser Küche wohl noch ein wenig an Routine und Organisation.
