Totally blurgh. The CWE is one of the StL’s première areas for living and night life spots. There’s no problem finding something to do at any point during the week. However, there’s one place that I wouldn’t suggest going, Culpeppers. Frankly, I’m not entirely sure how this place stays in business. I lived in the CWE for two years, and I think that I went there all of once. Like I said, the CWE has many spots for food and drink, and I’m not sure how they compete. My friends and I went in on a Sunday night, trying to watch the Blues/Blackhawks game. Bar Louie down the street was just showing the NFC Championship, which is a whole different issue that I should get into with them. Culpeppers was the best option on the block. They were showing the football game, too, and when we asked to have a TV turned to hockey, a patron at the bar said that we could«watch it downstairs.» The bartender turned it on a side television, and we sat at the corner of the bar. I asked a server if they had any game time specials, and the answer was no. I ordered an UCBCSTLIPA, and he told me that the beer was eight dollars a pint, which is grossly overpriced. I told him that I didn’t want it and ordered a cheap can of beer. My friends ordered food, but I just drank a couple of cheap beers. My friends shared their appetizers, and the fried artichoke and boneless wings were pretty good. Good but not great. I just don’t get how Culpeppers stays open in the CWE. The food is okay, but the pricing and service left a whole lot to be desired.

The only good thing about this place is the wings… big meaty wings with really good homemade spicy wing sauce. That is really the peak of the place. Minimal beer selection(only 5 on tap but only 1 local… rest were miller bought companies). Rest of the food was mediocre. Would only come back for the wings.

The beer was nice and cold. However, between the four of us only one had a meal that was decent(fish and chips) or near worth their completely unjustified prices. Good food at a real restaurant can be expensive. Average bar food shouldn’t be. Stick to beer and wings at this place.

Okay so, food is good… But the bartending service needs some work. The girl night time bartender had an attitude and decided to pay more attention to her phone, than her bar guests. She definitely didn’t even deserve the tip I gave her, but because I’m industry, I wouldn’t tip lower than 15%. Please hire someone else that will put their phone down and actually pay attention to their guests needs. I know it’s the 21st century, but man, put the phone down when you’re at work.

Pretty solid food that may be slightly overpriced for what it is, but it most likely on account of the location. Friend got a burger that was pretty big and had no e flavor. Would definitely recommend the bone in over the boneless wings as well despite messiness.

either you are a fan or you are not. this is bar food.(shoulder shrugs). The peach mimosa is great I always get the wings with the original sauce. Always good to me. Or I will have the catfish sandwich. I’m never disappointed. you are on a great corner to people watch and talk with your mate and girlfriends.

On the corner or Maryland and Euclid Aves. sits Culpepper’s Sports Bar in the heart of the Central West End. A wonderful place to be outside and watch as the world goes by. Today we decided to go there for lunch. We were told that we could sit wherever we wanted and menus were quickly brought out to us. Our server(Sean?) took our drink orders while we perused the menus. Upon his return, Mike ordered the Culpepper Dip and I decided on the fried catfish sandwich. We both ordered a side of cole slaw. Our dishes arrived and it was time to get the feed bag on. We agreed that the creamy style cole slaw was excellent. Mike’ sandwich was roast beef with gouda cheese on it. A side of Au Jus accompanied it. My catfish was a piece of catfish on a roll with a side of tartar sauce. The dip sandwich was very good but quite messy to eat. I’m told the au jus was very salty. My catfish was okay but was a little dry. I would have like some lettuce and tomato to add to it. All in all, we would come back here again. We both love their salads and I believe I will be ordering one of them the next time I go.

This is the most disgusting establishment in the central west end. not only the soggy, stale food(they never get your order right either) but the manager that stands out front and harasses you to come into the restaurant.

Not to knock a restaurant that people seem to like, but the portions are small, the food tastes like it has Windex in it, the drinks are expensive, and the wings are kinda«meh» Great location though

What can I say about a restaurant that serves food that is simply bad. We were served a sandwich with a piece of chicken that was obviously past it’s expiration date. Thankfully we were splitting the sandwich so we stopped each other after the first bite. Unfortunately we both swallowed a bite. While the staff was generally friendly I want to seriously caution anyone considering visiting this restaurant to read this message. While we weren’t hospitalized with food poisoning(which would have happened had we eaten the whole sandwich) we both experienced terrible diarrhea — and this was from one bite! I sincerely question the professionalism of the staff who would let food like this get out to a table. After simply smelling the meat in the sandwich after that unfortunate bite, one could easily tell the chicken was bad. It had a putrid odour and taste. Be very careful eating food at this restaurant. You life may depend on it. Seriously. I have to give them one star apparently to post this review but they deserve zero stars.

I typically nab the chicken strips and steak fries. The strips alone will run you about $ 9, and add the steak fries for maybe $ 3. It was really good, I didn’t finish my meal either time I went. Great portions The wait staff either just stands around sort of staring, or are borderline too attentive if you’re attempting to have good conversation. They interrupt quite a bit, compared to a typical restaurant. So may not be ideal for first time meets where you’d like a little more space.

Tried to eat lunch here but couldn’t get waited on. There was only one other table of people in the dining area. They came in after us & got their drinks & placed their order & still no one waited on us. Disappointed!

Came to STL from LA once a while ago and heard all about toasted ravioli. Tried it at another place in the area and thought they were disgusting! This place changed my mind on toasted ravioli and their Culpepper burger was also amazing! Definitely would come back again.

Don’t believe them when they say your order will be out shortly. Shortly to them means 25 minutes. At least they knocked a decent amount off my bill because of it.

After hearing about the great wings at culpeppers we had to check it out. We sat outside and ordered food to go because we did not know how long we could sit and eat. To put it shortly we had a bad experience. Our server was brass, non personable and kind of short when answering questions we had about the menu. My wings ended up being overcooked– rushing to catch the train we paid and kept it moving. Unfortunately it was a very sub par experience for the price of the food. Not sure if I will return

This is a must visit place. It is located in a super area surrounded by fun; The chess world hall of fame is a few doors down, and the service is great. Last night, I got greeted by «hello» from the bar staff soon I walked in the doorway and the customers did the same. The bartender was Ben who made me feel right at home. He was friendly and seen to have a terrific relationship with the regulars. The BBQ wings Ben sugggested were a ten(look out Hammerstones). I have new place to hang out for wings and music.

I give it a 3 because I’ve been here multiple times and have had mixed experiences. Most of the time the servers are good. We only have had a couple of bad servers. Food was alright. It’s not my favorite CWE place to eat. The reason being is that there is a Culpeppers in my town so, I can get it at home as well as school. Finally, every time I go the floors are slippery. The floors rarely get cleaned it seems and grease from over the years is on the floor making it slick. I’ve almost fallen a couple of times. I would probably give it a better review based on the floors alone.

Culpeppers is a staple of STL. Now, the CWE location menu is not as extensive as some of the other locations, but it gets the job done. I typically go with the Club which has chicken, ham, lettuce, tomato, bacon and steak fries. Can’t go wrong.

Had lunch here with a few coworkers the other day. Decent food and good service. I had a chicken wrap with tortilla chips and ranch dressing — cant remember what it was called but it was fine. Came with steak fries which were also fine. Chose this over the Reuben because the server said it was better than the Reuben. Everyone else liked their food too. Bonus points for the server for not batting an eye when the only woman at the table paid the check — too many times that elicits a comment that pisses me off and makes everyone else uncomfortable. I guess I was just a little disappointed overall with having to eat here, with all of the other more interesting restaurant offerings within a one-block walk. Oh well, at least it wasn’t Bread Co again…
