I’m giving Tandoor 3 stars not 4 because of the poor service. The food was exactly what we were craving. Saag paneer and butter chicken were both really delicious. Garlic break and rice was seasoned perfectly. The downside was of course service. We had to wave the waitress over every time we needed something because she never came to check on us, which was surprising considering we were the only people in the restaurant.

I tried their kabuli naan. I would not recommend it. Their butter chicken is nice though.

LOVE their chicken tikka masala and their potato naan. I might order this three times a week. Their lamb biryani and mango lassi are also fantastic.

This is some of the best Indian food I’ve had almost anywhere. And I used to live with an Indian family. I was a big fan of the samosas, bhindi masala, chana masala, and tadka daal. Pakora’s not usually my thing, and same story here. And the waiter did seem to be, maybe, annoyed by us. But it’s a nice, clean atmosphere, good prices and great food.

This was my third visit to Tandoor and much to my dismay, a horrible one. The food here is not half bad especially given that their prices are lower than most South Asian places in San Francisco. Of the things I’ve tried, the Tandoori Chicken Breast is pretty good, the Fish Pakora is decent and the Seekh Kabab is okay, though it doesn’t really taste like Seekh Kabab. This is not the horrific part — the following is. This visit, which is going to be my last, started off with a very rude waiter. I was kept waiting for quite a while and when I mentioned this to the waiter, far from apologizing, he started arguing with me. This left me rather frustrated but I decided not to make a big deal about it and just let it be. He brought out my food in a reasonable amount of time and it finally seemed like my dinner would wind up okay. Sadly that was not to be. As I was eating my Fish Pakora, i felt something really sharp in my mouth. I suspected it was just a scale(something still not supposed to be in a Fish Pakora). It turned out to be a *staple pin*. I sighed with relief for a moment, glad I didn’t end up with a tooth ache or a massive dental/medical bill and ushered the waiter over. The waiter first tried to just refuse that the pin came out of my food. Then he picked up the pin I had taken out of my mouth, removed chewed food from it with his bare hands and proceeded to take the pin to the manager. Then nothing. No apology, no replacement of food — nothing. Oh, of course, the waiter just kept going about his business, not bothering to take the time to wash his hands afterwards. Frustrated but not in the mood to argue with the rude waiter, I finished my food and asked for the bill, signed the check and proceeded to discuss the incident with the manager. The manager, who seemed nice enough earlier on had this to say — «You should have just returned the food, why didn’t you send it back?“Also made sure to say that«I have been running restaurants for 11 years, this has not happened ever.» So first off, it is my fault that there was a staple pin in my food? I failed to do something I was supposed to? And what are you trying to imply when you say in a monotone that this does not happen? Instead of apologizing you question the fact of the incident. Shameful! I will be reporting this to the Department of Public Health. If you care about not having dangerous objects in your food or if you care about being treated with respect, I suggest you skip this place.

I went with my friend for a late lunch/early dinner. We ordered the paneer tikka masala, and coconut chicken. Naan was absolutely delicious. Food was perfectly seasoned. The guy who worked there was super nice. Would definitely go back.

This has to be my favorite Pakistani and Indian cuisine restaurants in the Bay Area. The aroma of the various spices makes your mouth water. The food is fantastic, the decorations are truly beautiful and most importantly the service was superb. Get the butter chicken curry and the tandoor chicken !!

The food here is AMAZING! The best I’ve had in the Bay Area. Every spice, ever flavor, every taste is sensational. If you’re ever on Haight St you need to stop by and try the Tandoor Chicken. The Chai tea is very tasteful I could probably drink this all day long. The atmosphere is calm. Dimly lit inside to give you the sunset feeling. The service was great as well as the food. Great for groups. I’m looking forward to coming back!

Every time it come here I have an awesome interaction with my server, really getting to know them and their history. Many of the guys have learned the recipes from Their hometowns in Nepal and have brilliant stories. The food is made to order and served with cold Indian beers, including Maharaja and Taj Mahal. Excellent flavors and high-quality meat and veggie dishes! It’s all topped off with Indian music and Bollywood faves. Go eat!

Came by on a Saturday night and the place was empty. Even then it took a while for our order to come out. The naan was unremarkable(we tried the potato and garlic) and my chicken korma made me doubt my love for korma. My girlfriend said the chicken tikka masala was delicious, though. And the mango lassi was one of the best I’ve tried. So it evened out, really.

Best indian food in SF, hands down. All the dishes we had were terrific, and the naan was incredible! Try the kabuli naan, you won’t be disappointed.

Waited 20 min to order aloo naan, chicken korma, and rice. Waited 30 min for our food. One waiter for the entire restaurant. I usually don’t care for service if the food is good, but I was starving and the food was meh. Super disappointed since I live in the neighborhood. Don’t come here if you are hungry and expect regular/decent service. *btw I wrote this while waiting for our check…15min waiting so far…

I’m not an Indian food kind of guy, but, the kids introduced us here and I’m converting. Best tandoori and butter chicken I’ve ever had. Owners on site making this mom and pop a must try if you’re in the Haight!

We were getting some delicious beers at Toronado but were craving food so decided to stop in here. The service was good, our server helped us decide what we ordered. The prices were just about normal for most of the Indian places we frequent. We usually stick with the usuals – Chicken Tikka Masala and some type of curry or veggie dish. The food was decent, nothing too exciting but it was good. The portions were enough for two entrees to feed two of us but not take away leftovers. We would return next time we’re at Toronado and maybe explore the menu a bit more.

*solid consistent Indian food in a great neighborhood* #deliciouschaitea #greatspecials Now I’m no grand expert on Indian food. It’s probably one of the least attended cuisines in my repertoire of food, however this place was not too shabby. I’ve been here about 3 times since it’s so close and each time it has been consistent, tasty indian food. The chai tea is soothing especially on a cold day. The specials are great and come with naan and rice, and each time I’ve spent less than 15 bucks per person for a very filling meal. The curries and entries, although not amazing, do the job. I’ve had one… fairly…private…negative experience after eating here but that was it. The service was hit or miss but nothing worth noting. A place i’ll definitely revisit as long as I’m in the area and get an Indian food craving.

Deliciously aromatic and intensely spiced, I found Tandoor on Haight via Unilocal’s mobile app and its neat little widget to search restaurants nearby. I ordered the Lamb Korma and Chicken Makhani(aka«Butter Chicken»). The sauces were incredibly flavored and layered and while a little light on meat, both were satisfying. You can taste that amazing wood-fired smokiness in both dishes, especially the lamb. When my order arrived, I was a little disappointed with Tandoor’s all-dark meat Chicken Makhani. I later learned from the owner that if you request all-white meat(or a combination of the two) the kitchen will happily comply — and at no extra charge. I’ll keep that in mind next time I order this dish; the sauce alone is to-die for. Just as good was the Kabuli Naan. With a wide assortment from which to choose, I ordered this naan stuffed with raisins, almonds, coconut and sesame seeds. Fresh from the wood-fired oven, I couldn’t stop eating it. Between the naan and the subtly flavored and delicious basmati rice –and not counting the calories of the Chicken Makhani’s sinfully delicious sauce — I definitely ate a little too well tonight! Tandoor has a very extensive menu; you won’t grow easily bored. And, they deliver which is a terrific luxury since, in my experience, it’s a rare Indian restaurant that does. I’ll definitely order from Tandoor again(and again).

The food is pretty solid, but the service could be better. They’re attentive, but they’re not efficient. I would suggest ordering to go, but if you do, make sure to come five or ten minutes after they tell you to. Food takes forever to come out, which I guess means it’s freshly prepared, but it’s pretty annoying to wait twenty minutes for your food in an empty restaurant. I don’t know why the side tables are up on some kind of platform. The interior is mysterious in its own way, but you’ll get over that pretty fast if it’s empty, and it often is. Overall, the place feels like it’s dying a slow, inexorable death. It doesn’t smell, and the food is good, but the people just don’t have their hearts in it.

After trying Roti earlier in the week, I took a friend out to Tandoor to try a new Indian /Pakistani restaurant. We were seated by the door, a bit drafty but fine. The man who I assume was the owner gave us a crash course in recommendations that ended up being super helpful. At the end of the meal he even circled what we ordered on the take out menu so I could recall it in this review, haha. Nice guy. The picture I uploaded was of the Indian beer, Flying Horse. It was in a Saporro sized glass and was fine. My date had wine that she enjoyed. We started off with the somosa appetizer. These are hard to describe, but they just taste good with the spicy and sweet green and brown dipping sauces. It was basically potatoes with garbanzo beans. We couldn’t order dairy so instead of the Chicken Tikka Masala we ordered the Karahi chicken. This was bomb! Onions, bell peppers, and somewhat spicy. Also ordered something off the menu, the prawn coconut(13.99) which was good, large sized shrimp. Finally, we ordered garlic naan to dip into the extra sauces. We also got an order of rice but I don’t see it on the menu and forgot how much it was. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience eating here. Families, dates, people on their own, etc. I did try the free spiced chai tea people mentioned and it was OK. I would definitely bring someone here again. Whole meal for 2 was about $ 50 plus tip.
