This was my frist time at Roti and i didnt like theor service at all. We ordered an appetizer, two curries and roti. They served us, roti with the appetizer. By the time the curries came our bread was really really cold. The veg pakodas were good. not oily at all however some part of batter was raw. The taste of the curries was good. Not spicy, like home made. I over all liked the taste. Its different then most of the indian restaurants. If you like spicy indian food, i would not recommend this rest! Dont be surprised with the bizarre order in which food is being served.

If i could I would give this place negative stars… i placed and order thru grub hub online and after an hour and half on a weekday they miss part of my order. To make matters worse, I called the restaurant and spoke with the ower Shah and he explained to me that it would take him at least an hour to give me my complete order. Now keep in mind that I ordered the food at 615pm and received the order at 745 and now was told to wait until after 9 for my food, needless to say I was upset. Its already bad that most Indian restaurants have poor customer service this owner takes the cake. Goodness gracious the naan wasnt even cooked and the chicken vindaloo was the smallest portion I have ever received from any indian take out. On top to the small portions the chicken was mostly bone. And it is 904 and still have not received the completion of my order. Oh I wish that Rottee would take customer service seriously. In the technology age people Unilocal and use social medias for information and recommendations. So I would never recommend coming here for any reason. Shah you would be wise to take into consideration what your Unilocalers think!

I don’t understand why this place has so many great reviews. I know it has been here for a little while, maybe it was awesome once, but that was not the experience I recently had. Otherwise I’m not sure how they’ve managed to stay in business with so many other better(and cheaper) Indian places within short walking distance. After checking the menu outside, my friend and I decided to give this place a try for dinner. The prices on the dinner menu were $ 2 more than what was posted in the window. That should have been a warning, but we thought the menu in the window probably reflected the lunch prices, despite neither of us noticing anything to indicate that. Hands down, this is the worst food I’ve ever tasted in a restaurant anywhere. It was so bad that after nibbling the veggie pakora appetizer, we tried to cancel our order, planning to eat elsewhere, something that had never even previously occurred to me to do. After telling the waitress we wanted to cancel she brings our food packaged to go and the full bill. We tasted our entrees just to make sure, and unfortunately they were just as bad. Noticing our hesitance the manager(?) comes over. I explain the situation as politely as I can, and to his credit he was cool and lets us bounce without charging us. I honestly hope they get it together and improve soon.

Mmmm, ordered from Eat 24! Had been in hibernation the last couple of days(with the studying & all) and this place was pretty good! Minimum $ 15 for delivery, although delivery time is 45−90min!!! So order ahead! Chicken tikki masala was creamy, but very tomato-y. I followed the recommendations to order the garlic Naan… was wayy too garlic-y! It had chunks of garlic(I was expecting something more subtle, like a garlic butter) Either way, not a great place but not bad. A bit heavy/creamy to eat on a regular basis.

I agree with David O. in that the quality of food has greatly declined. I don’t mind the service as the food has always been good. I came here last night with some friends and was delighted when they had their elusive Fish Tandoori available. But was greatly disappointed when 2 of 3 pieces came out with it seeming like the tandoori portion of it was a quick sear. I wasn’t even able to cut through the skin as it was so undercooked. The fish was clearly raw. The server was nice about taking it back, but it’s just now the same. He did try to give us free glasses of wine, but we were already done. We did however partake in a shared rice pudding dessert. I am not planning on returning.

I like the food just could have been a little spicier like I’m use to. The chef was very friendly, as well as the waitress. The price was great for what u get especially in Frisco.

These people are great at accommodating large groups… but honestly the food is not so hot. Go down the block to Naan n Chutney. I remember the first time eating here I had a stomach ache afterwards, never a good sign… the second time thankfully I didn’t get sick, but the food just wasn’t up to standard, I feel. Hopefully they’ll get better in the future but for now there are just too many other places around this area to compel me to go back again.

Rotee, Rotee, whatever happened to thee? I’ve been eating food from this place for more than five years, and it used to be one of my favorite Indian restaurants. I haven’t written a Unilocal review in years, but I felt compelled to write this, as the food quality and service have become increasingly erratic. Don’t get me wrong — Rotee can still make a great meal. It’s just that you never know which Rotee you’re going to get. There’s no consistency with the seasoning — I’ve had Chicken Tikka Masalas that were thin and bland, and others that were way too salty. My understanding is that the original menu for this place was developed by a non-local chef that taught the staff his recipes, and then left. It’s apparent that the original talent is absent, because whoever is cooking these recipes can not deliver them with any consistency. The final straw for me was when I ordered delivery tonight, and it took an hour and forty five minutes to arrive — easily a record for any delivery that I’ve received. As per my usual style, I would have preferred to inject some humor into this review, but my sadness at this restaurant’s decline just didn’t allow it :‘( Just kidding, it’s just another restaurant. Living in San Francisco is like living in Scrooge McDuck’s vault, only instead of coins there are good restaurants. Okay, that is actually a terrible analogy, but you get my point.

Most of the food in the Haight sucks. I was surprised to find Rotee was pretty darn good. It’s pretty darn good. Got that? Try it if you’re in the Lower Haight. Those who wrote about the awful service are right. But do many of you expect good service from an Indian restaurant? Most of the ones I’ve been are either self serve, or like this one: feels like self serve.

Awesome Food! Awesome Service! I had done a takeout from here, the food was really fresh. Their Onion Naan and Garlic Naan were amazingly soft and warm. The Shahi Paneer dish(cottage cheese) was also quite aromatic and delicious.

Yum! Came here with some friends for dinner on a Saturday night. There were five of us and we took advantage of a Groupon — $ 19 for dinner for 2. We doubled this and got two of these deals. We got two meat and three veg entrees — all were delicious! It came with plain rice, four glasses of their house wine, two orders of plain naan and some crisp lentil crackers as an app. Everything was very good! The only down-side was the service. It really wasn’t very busy but we really did wait for a while for service a few times. We also requested a third order of naan that never came. I’d def come here again, but not if I were in a hurry.

I love the décor and menu description of Rotee’s. the pakora, tandoori fish and the chana daal are delish. I find the pakistani/indian flavoring a touch too spicy so I’m one of those who always needs to order a raita with it, or a mango lassi. Great local spot for some standby favorites. and unlimited chai ;-)

I love Rotee! its always my go-to got group things bc they can accommodate a group, for one… and its close to the bars on lower haight:) always a plus… I have tasted nearly EVERY tikka masala in the city, and judge every place by this sauce… and Rotee PERFECTS it. i actually drive all the way from SSF to get take out:) the paneer is always fresh right off the oven… and they have free chai you can help yourself too. bathrooms are clean, staff is very friendly… and i like how you can watch them cook. the owners are wonderful people, and worth supporting! go show some Haight love!

I love this place. It is definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in San Francisco. The vibe is always great and homely, not only from the cheesy bollywood poster but also anchored by a really friendly owner. Most Indian/Paki restaurants have really bad staff, stale and greasy food is a given, but not Rotee. The food here is really good. I usually hate Okra, but this is the only place I will gobble it down. Also I love their daal and paneer tikka masala and the fact that anything can be made really spicy if you like it that way. Also as an added bonus you get good chai for free. I do wish they get a veggie paneer wrap in the menu soon. This place fills my craving for Indian food.

I sincerely hope the reason last night’s service sucked and the food was slow is because there has been a surge of customers using their about-to-expire Groupons(pre-paid online coupons) and Rotee isn’t getting any ca$h for operating expenses and is cutting corners. Or, I smell bad so the waiters didn’t want to walk up to my small cafeteria table and take my basic order. For 20 minutes. I’m giving an extra star, in case it’s the former.

Kinda of a disappointment since I had some high hope after reading the Unilocal reviews. I got a Groupon deal so I don’t feel as bad but it could have still been better. Upon entering, the service was nice and the atmosphere pretty non traditional, much like the theme of the restaurant, in my opinion. We ordered: Vegetable Pakora: This was not good at all. They were just balls of fried batter. At one point we wondered if the batter had gone bad since there was a slight sour/tangy taste which we associated with spoiled foods. The dish came with 4 pieces and my BF and I forced ourselves to finish our piece so it didn’t look like we didn’t like it. Silly, I know. Chicken Tikka Masala: This was probably the best dish we ordered. The meat was a little dry but the sauce was good. What can I say? Fat is suppose to be heaven on your taste buds. Palak Paneer: This was good. The dish wasn’t creamy, but unlike my BF, I enjoyed it being less creamy. He unfortunately got something crunchy, like a grain of sand in his first bite. I really hope that the spinach was washed thoroughly, since I know spinach can be a pain to clean. Vegetable Biryani: This was also another let down. The dish came heaping with rice and it looked like we needed a larger plate to contain the whole thing. But alas, it fell short of something worth eating. The flavors just weren’t there. I hate to do this but the biryani at Naan and Curry tastes much better. Garlic and plain Naan: These weren’t half bad. I like them a little on the thinner side and not so bready and these were pretty good. I enjoyed the garlic naan a little better and the garlic wasn’t overwhelming. Sorry, but we won’t be returning. The place filled us up successfully, and the waitress was nice but that doesn’t make up for the lack of authenticity and flavor of a traditional Indian/Pakistani cuisine.

If you like Indian food, this isn’t your spot. Extremely bland!!! The waitress was nice but was the only one there and this was in the evening. Went there on a groupon, never again! This is a copycat, re-post! I agree so much with the sentiment written.

I often want to check out places on Check Please, so this had been on my radar for a while. When the groupon came around, I thought it was the perfect time to visit. I don’t think I had my hopes too high, based on other reviews, but I was still disappointed. We had samosas, daal gosht, a tandoori chicken leg, aloo mutter, and rice and naan. The samosas were small, flat, and quite reminiscent of the ones from Trader Joe’s, but not bad. The presentation was kind of nice, with four small triangles arranged around the dipping sauces. The tandoori chicken might have been the best thing we ordered, with the leg nicely seasoned and charred. We had avoided ordering the chicken tikka masala because other people had said it was too sweet. Turns out all the sauces are too sweet! And overly creamy, so that was kind of gross. The potatoes were also incredibly bland. The rice was nice, though! Just as it drives me crazy when people say they don’t understand the idea of nicer or fancier Mexican restaurants, it bothers me if an «upscale» Indian restaurant is not appreciated. In general. BUT I can see the point here, because in my opinion, the food was not different/better than what you get at a less expensive places. And maybe the atmosphere is nicer, but what’s with the weirdly cheap plastic chairs? I felt like I was going to tip over if I even leaned back a little. Ok, also, I often prefer a small quantity of good food to an enormous quantity of mediocre food. And I appreciate that sometimes you have to pay more for good food. But people are NOT kidding in talking about the small portions! 3 dishes at most Indian restaurants provides us with meals for a few days for 2 people, and sure, often those portions are bigger than they need to be. But there were three chunks of potato in our potato dish — I would guess less than one full potato. And as others have commented, three little pieces of chicken. It was just too much money for that amount of food, given that it was just ok. Service was friendly and prompt. It was pleasantly almost empty on a Thursday night at 7:30, although this made some of the club-striving music seem silly. No question I would stick with Little Delhi for Indian food, and would go elsewhere in the neighborhood rather than going back here

Yummy ;) I randomly got delivery from this place over the weekend and loved it! I like Indian food a lot but don’t eat it that often, so when a couple guys who were over at my house this weekend suggested this place for dinner I was all for it. There was four of us eating, and since I suck at ordering food for people to share and will eat just about anything I let the other guys do the ordering. One of the guys who eats at this place a lot said we HAD to get the chicken tikka masala. In fact, we got two orders of it since there was four of us, and it pretty much rocked my socks off!!! It had this delicious creamy, tomatoey taste, and I probably would have bathed in it if it was socially acceptable. We also got an order of the chicken tikka tandori. I didn’t blow me away like the masala, but it was still very good. I honestly can’t tell you what the other two entrée’s were that we ordered, but one was beef and the other was a lamb dish. The beef was spicy(I like spicy though) and both dishes had a lot of flavor. This isn’t a complaint against the restaurant itself, but rather against the people I ordered with. I love meat as next as the next carnivore, but ONE vegetarian dish would have been nice. I really like Indian vegetarian dishes and after looking at the menu online, there were things here I would have liked to have tried. The rice was decent(why do Indian restaurants always charge for rice, when other Asian restaurants give it away?) and the garlic naan we ordered was quite yummy as well. The prices are reasonable IMO and the delivery I thought was fairly fast(about 45 min from the Lower Haight to the Western Addition… I know this isn’t a long drive, but I always expect a little longer delivery for local restaurants). All in all I thought the food here was excellent(but I’m not an expert on Indian food), and I would definitely order from here again!!!

Chicken Tikka Masala for President! This is the best tasting Chicken Tikka Masala I’ve found in all the Bay Area. The portions could be bigger, but if you’re looking for a taste explosion, look no further. Order it with at least two different types of naan to get an idea of the breadth of variety they offer. Each type is packed with seasonings, but not so it’s overpowering. If it wasn’t so far away from where I live, I’d be there every week.
