I’m so happy I found this neighborhood gem for some solid sushi rolls! I’m going to say right now if you are a sashimi or nigiri lover who is all about omakase sets, this place is not what you are looking for. But if you want yummy, solid sushi rolls and tasty apps, come on in! I stopped in for a quick meal over the weekend and was delighted by how delicious everything was and felt everything was priced fairly(especially for Haight). I loved how fresh, bright, and flavorful the poke was. The juicy mangos really did it for me. I also really liked the Smashing Pumpkin roll which contained friend pumpkin tempura! There is not enough tempura pumpkin in my diet so I’ll be making more frequent stops in here. Aside from the TV screen to watch sports on and the sake and beer you can order, I’m not quite sure how this got categorized as a sports bar. It is definitely not a rowdy crowd.

Great place to grab a bite and watch the game! I sat at the counter and the sushi chef gave me a free treat. It was quick, fresh, affordable, and there are TVs over the bar and in the main seating area.

This is by far the best sushi in the neighborhood and my favorite one in SF. Everything I’ve had here has been amazing and the staff is super friendly!

We live in the hood so checked this place out. Was surprised how good it was. And they were super nice(we went early and brought our baby). They brought over a sashimi on the house that was marinated in something delicious– was amazing. Really good sushi. Hope it does well.

Went here for dinner with bf since we were around the area. It is a cute little sushi place with pretty good food at a reasonable price. The waiter is attentive to our service. Call ahead if you have a party more than 4 as the place is small. They have a little cave in area for more privacy. They sell wine, beer and sake. Tuna poke: fish is fresh and it comes with avocado, mango and nacho chips to hold it. The mango adds some sweetness into the dish. Butterfish nachos: Comes in 5. It is served on top of a nacho chips with guacamole, butterfish with a slice of jalapeño. Crunchy shrimp: it is a interesting dish. Practically like a shrimp tempura roll but the tempura is coated with cajun seasoning. Hot sake: they only have large size and it is pretty HOT when it come. Be careful not to burn your finger. Hamachi kama: the fish collar they gave was pretty big. It has alot of meat but not overcook. Good job on this dish. Three Amigos: it has avocado, eel and something else in it. I forgot the last ingredient. It was pretty good as well. Overall, if you are around the area. You should come by to try this new place.

First timer! My boyfriend and I ordered the tuna poke, butterfish nachos, sake nigiri, and tres amigos roll based on all the Unilocal reviews. Tuna poke: delicious and had more tuna than mango or avocado, which we were impressed/happy about! The fried wonton chips they used were perfectly crunchy and the best complement to the poke. Great dish. Butterfish nachos: comes out with 5 fried wonton chips with a delicious mix of mango, tuna, jalepeno, and something else(can’t remember off the top of my head) on top of each chip. Downside was we couldn’t share them evenly but big upside was that it was SO good! Sake nigiri: mouth is watering right now thinking about it — it’s by far my favorite nigiri and choice at any sushi restaurant, and Hot Zushi’s was no exception. They bring it out with sauce brushed on it and request that we eat it without soy sauce — big plus as it is not common to do, so I really appreciated that! It was the perfect mix of flavor and texture. Mmm. Tres amigos: first thing we noticed was that the presentation was not great — it was basically falling apart on the dish it came out on. However, it was such a wonderful mix of flavors and ingredients that we got over that reallll quick. Eel, avocado, tuna, cucumber, and yellowtail combined to make a delicious roll! Service was top notch — free hot green tea and a super sweet server who, and I quote my boyfriend, «said thank you more than any server I’ve ever had»! Will definitely come back(:

Kind of surprised that this place has gotten such great ratings so far! I went here tonight with my friend based on the rave reviews we saw on Unilocal, and I really thought the service was great, but the food we had wasn’t anything special. I thought it was really nice that they started us off with some carpaccio though! Tuna Poke: Probably the best thing we had out of all the things we ordered. Mango, avocado, and tuna came with fried gyoza wrappers, which I thought was a great Asian touch to the dish instead of just using tortilla chips. Butterfish Nachos: This was the thing everyone was raving about, but the tuna poke was way better. This dish was basically tuna poke, but with different fish. It was topped with some kind of mango mix and was hard to eat. One bite and the«nacho» fell apart in our hands immediately(fish was a little hard to bite through). Big Poppa: We were intrigued by this because it sounded pretty good, but the spicy tuna taste was basically unnoticeable. Out of all the ingredients making up this roll, for some reason, the asparagus stood out the most, but not in a great away. Overall, not too much flavor in this one. Crunchy Wasabi: Not very memorable even though I just ate it a few hours ago. Again, I felt like it could have been more flavorful and was just missing something. If you’re a big sushi fan, I’m not sure if this would be the place for you! The service was great, it was super clean, and I liked the intimate feel of the space itself. We only had a few things from the menu so maybe there are some knockout dishes we missed, but, overall, I wasn’t too wowed by this place.

So happy this place opened on Haight. It’s quality fish served by some of the nicest people. Can’t ask for more in a neighborhood sushi joint — will be coming here for my weekly sushi fix for the foreseeable future.

I was bummed when Raijin Sushi(who previously occupied this space) shut down unexpectedly in December, because I had always thought it was good quality for the price. Then I tried Hot Zushi. Not only is the sushi here fresh and reasonably priced, but the staff is genuinely friendly and super attentive. Try the Smashing Pumpkin roll with tempura pumpkin. Great low-key spot for weeknight dinner or takeout.

First off let me say that I go to sushi restaurants at least once/twice a week. I was in SF for work and just happened to swing by this place and its hands down the best sushi I have had in a long time. The sushi chef, David, is the man! He gave out free tasters while I he was making plates for customers. He genuinely knows what he is doing. Absolutely fresh and cheap prices. No where in LA or SF beats this place. Truly a little gem. You won’t be disappointed! Ps. — order the butterfish nachos. By far some amazing Asian/American fusion sushi dish to enjoy as an appetizer.

We were looking for a place to get Sake and some apps and ended up staying for 3 hours, due to our fabulous server Connie and the amazing chef who kept making us taste and try new creations. We were worried that they’d close down because it was so empty, but so happy to hear they’re just new! I’ve already been back and Connie remembers my name and once again was a sweetheart… Does this make me their first regular?!? ILLTAKEIT!!!

Tuna poke was one of the highlights from a medley of negiri, rolls, and sake. Everything tasted amazing and the service fast and friendly. Do yourself a favor and order any of dishes with the deep fried chips — buttery with so much flavor and texture. I would definitely eat here again.

Walked by this place and decided to give it a try. WOW! A pleasant surprise, maybe even my favorite sushi place in San Francisco. The service is superior to most sushi places I frequent and the fish was fresh! Will be back very soon!

I rarely post about restaurants but this one is a new one on the crowded Haight street. The restaurant looks a bit unassuming from the outside and we almost skipped it. I’m glad we didn’t. It just opened a week ago and the food is great! Generous portions, fun specialty rolls, and the fish tastes great. I loved the Tuna Tataki. Server and Owners also very friendly. We will be back again.

I was a little nervous that Hot Zushi only had one Unilocal review. Turns out they just opened last week! I was in the mood for some pretty simple rolls, which were great. The fish was fresh and the rolls are really reasonably priced. The staff was also super friendly and thoughtful in checking menu items for my food allergy. So, I felt compelled to write a review, even though I’ve always been a passive Unilocaler(I think this is my first review!). Glad that this place opened up and looking forward to coming back soon and trying some of their specialty rolls.

I was drinking at a bar with friends across the street and we decided to get some fresh food instead of bar food. I usually use Unilocal for quick recommendations on what to order and was surprised to find this place wasn’t listed. They have a TV in the main area and sushi bar for watching sports. There’s also a more private area on the left for a table for two and four. All the sashimi was very fresh and there were a lot of unique rolls that were created by the sushi chef. My favorite were the Butterfish Nachos and the Delicious Roll. Every tasted great and service was fast. Give this place a try! I’ll be coming back!
