Went here for the first time with a friend whom insisted it was great. I agreed that the tacos were fantastic. Only had a few breakfast tacos before a morning hike bit they were fast and friendly and tasted great for the price. Definitely a good little local joint worth a quick stop. The salsa was also really good with enough spice to give it just enough kick.

Pretty much one of the few places in San Antonio that makes amazing tacos! Been going there for 6 plus years!

Extra star for friendly service but the food(breakfast tacos) were subpar both in flavor and texture(wet tacos, gross!) Would not go back. This place has probably been here so long because it’s right across the street from Madison High School, those teenagers will probably eat anything.

I have had their breakfast tacos dozens of times, and one thing this place has gotten down is consistency. The potato and egg always tastes the same: perfectly cooked egg(not gross and brown like most taco places) and slightly crunchy potatoes. The tortillas don’t taste homemade, but for a person who eats plenty of breakfast tacos, the quality of the eat they are cooked surpasses this small detail. I’ve had the tortas and crunchy tacos for lunch and they are good too, but bfast tacos are where it’s at. Avoid this place during teenager time, unless, well, you are one. I can’t enjoy myself when I see 14 year olds smoking cigarettes.

Always gone here, was friends with the owners son. Good food. Lots to choose from. Breakfast tacos are always on point. I loved going there before school back in the day to grab some before classes start.

Taco Express. Pretty standard place to get good tacos on the north side of town. I don’t have a heck of a lot to say about it. It’s a good, fast, cheap option for breakfast tacos. The food is good but nothing stands out as absolutely amazing. The prices, however, are fantastic. In the mornings you can get breakfast taco combos(two tacos and a large coffee) for $ 2.99. Fair warning that this place is across the street from a high school, so you are certain to be met by long lines of teenagers early morning and late afternoon while school is in session. This is a pretty small restaurant so unless you are getting your food to-go allow time to get a table if it’s during the times that the kids may be buying breakfast or lunch. The good news is the staff is quick to accommodate and I’ve never had to wait long to get food no matter what time of day I’ve gone. So, for an average food experience with great prices and great service, I’d say go for it!

There is nothing about Taco Express that screams originality, but hey, what are you gonna do, it’s San Antonio. It’s true that you will almost always see high school students here, so I recommend coming in around 10 am. You will most certainly be the only diner at that time. Anyway, I have only ever had breakfast tacos here, so I can’t vouch for the plates, but the breakfast tacos are pretty good. They have a deal for 2 tacos and a drink for $ 2.99. Nice. The restaurant itself is really small, but it’s clean and the staff is very friendly. Taco Express also has specials on their plate of the day and they also serve smoothies, shakes, fruit cups, and snow cones.

Perhaps it’s the nostalgia that leads me to favor taco express over most others of its kind. The high school I went to is right acoss the street and I look back fondly on the many first periods spent over at taco express ditching class in favor of breakfast. My poor english teacher. Anyway, the building is modest very limited seating and a back room that they’ve been trying to convert into some income– producing attraction for as long as I can remember. I’ve seen it a game room, ice cream parlor, classic american food stand etc. I say just make it additional seating but whatever. The tacos themselves are served on thin flour tortillas. The beans and salsa are made from scratch, and the papas rancheras is the best I’ve had anywhere. Get there after 9, when most of the responsible students have cleared out, grab a table, pay the quarter for extra salsa, and dig in!

Just another ‘dime a dozen’ taco shop. They offer no signature dishes and the place itself is very small. This is just a nice place for a quick bite. I admit the food is good but nothing that will jump out and leave a lasting memory. You’ll always see the local high school kids here because the school is right across the street. The only thing really good is their breakfast burritos. A great value.
