After consistent service and delicious food at the UTSA location, we stopped by for a quick lunch at the Blanco restaurant. Where do I begin? We waited over 10 mins in line to be seated when half the restaurant was empty. The hostess did not even acknowledge us or anyone else until we we spoke up asking for a table. She then seated us, but took 2 seperate trips for menues and silverware resulting in another 5 minutes. Although the food was delicious, the staff & operations seemed like a huge«cluster___». We repeatedly watched several people wait in line(elderly, pregnant women etc.) for long periods of time even though tables on both sides of us and on the patio remained empty. At one point even the cooks from the back were delivering food to tables. After this experience, we will stick to the other location until they can get their act together and definitely hire a much needed new hostess.

We went here the other day due to a friend recommending it. The restaurant was very clean and the hostess greeted us with a warm and welcoming smile, she promptly seated us at a table. Even did a little bit of small talking on the way to the table, I can tell she definitely knows how to be friendly. I had the southwestern chicken sandwich, it was very good. Nothing is too far from a normal price range. Will definitely be back for another great service experience.

The Hipster rejects!!! Horrible service, slow moving staff(especially the waitress with dark hair and large ear holes), and most of all the hostess sucked hard!!!

So far they are at a 2 for me. Were told that there is a 15 min wait which I could understand if they were packed but they weren’t. It ended up being a 38 min. wait to seat 5. After waiting that long we had another 12 min wait to order our food after our drink order was taken. Not sure why I need to ask for the waiter to come to take our order but I did. How long does it take to bring soup out. I mean really everyone at the table has received their food but I am still waiting for just my soup. I’m confused by how they think this is good customer service. I can understand that they might have thought that since I only ordered soup, that I might want to wait but that’s when asking questions come in. Would you like to have your soup now or would you like it when we bring out the entrées. Soup brought to me after waiting an hour and 20 min. Not only am I’m irritated but I had the manager removed the soup from our ticket. I’ve never had to wait so long for soup.

I love the food at this place, and they are decent, in terms of service, just decent, but seriously inconsistent. As for orders to go, they generally«SUCK». They get my same salad wrong almost without fail, every single time. I know the owner and have mentioned this, but the are still consistent in this way, as well.

The food is amazing. The waiter was awesome. He brought a fresh order of fries because he felt the original order«did not look good.» Definitely will be going back. The blue cheese bacon burger was on point.

Came in today for lunch. There was a small line in front of me. As this was my first time in– I didn’t know what to get. There is not a menu posted and there were none in the waiting area so I had to wait until my turn at the register to see a menu. I would recommend putting some out for the guests so they can decide before their time at the register. I digress … I ordered the poblano soup which tasted like a broccoli soup with roasted poblano in it– very good. I also had the steak and chz sandwich which oddly came with lettuce and tomato. Perhaps the thinking was the acidity in the tomato would cut the richness but it also has cherry peppers on it which does the trick just fine. I personally found the meat a bit salty and the bread a bit too soft. I probably wouldn’t order that again but the soup will have me coming back for sure. Fast and friendly service!

The atmosphere is quiet and quaint. Food was pretty good. The portions are a good size. Homemade fries were super delicious. I ordered the Southwestern Chicken with fries. The bun is to die for! I was stuffed from the chicken and fries and kept eating the bun cause I just couldnt get enough. Hubby ordered The Ultimate and he said it was bland. He thought it was not a bad sandwich but they should use a more flavorful turkey meat. The service was good. Total spent 27.00 for lunch.

Holy. I had the poblano soup, salmon, and malva pudding for dinner at the bar for ~$ 40. Owner is from South Africa so the menu is mostly American but with some S. African influences(e.g. beef curry, malva pudding). Service is excellent, ambience is nice, there was no wait at 7pm on a Tuesday. It’s 5 stars for the overall value. The quality of food and experience is easily $ 50 – 60 back in Los Angeles where I live. This holds up to any restaurant you’d find at some of the more«foodie» cities. Poblano soup is damn spicy(warning). Salmon was cooked to perfection. Couscous was moist and flavorful. Spinach was nice. They gave me mashed potatoes two ways just to try(service gets a plus), and the malva pudding is simply crack. Five stars.

Who doesn’t love a local joint that makes some killer sandwiches? Picnikins is all about serving some solid comfort food without you feeling like you need to be rolled out of here. There wide variety of sandwiches can appease anyone even the pickiest of eaters in your group. From turkey to corned beef you can find something on their menu. I appreciate how you can fix your sandwich to your preferences including the type of bread(white, wheat, rye, and french roll). Want it hot? DONE Want your sandwich cold? DONE No this isn’t a Katy Perry song this is Picnikins! If you don’t fancy a sandwich, check out their salads, burgers, and pastas. Everything is simply delicious and they even offer a tasty sangria. Hey it’s 5 o’ clock somewhere, right? I love how personable the staff is here and the atmosphere is super quaint. My favorite sandwich is the Autumn which features, turkey, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce(my favorite part by far, and a few other ingredients. You’re able to also select your side from house made chips(i highly HIGHLY recommend you select these), french fries, or sweet potato fries.

Loved this place for lunch. The roasted poblano soup was one of the best soups I have ever had. I also enjoyed the orchard sandwich. The service was the best and the setting was great. I would love to come back here for lunch.

I cannot emphasize enough how incredibly amazing the food is here. I don’t think there was one thing that was close to so so. I am so sad I hadn’t come here before. If you want really really good food, this is the place to come. We got the calamari, San Antonio trio, Cobb salad, pastrami sandwich, and crème brûlée. All of which I would order again. I highly recommend the San Antonio trio it comes with freshly made guacamole, salsa, and really really amazing queso. Service was awesome too. We will be back for sure. Thank you for making really awesome food.

Brief report — why aren’t more people eating here? It’s really good! Poblano soup, Malva pudding and pulled pork sliders were our favorites. Long report — With a name like Piknickins– it’s hard to believe that this place is actually really, really nice! I came for dinner with a few friends and was surprised by the nice ambience. There was hardly anyone even though it was 7:30pm.(Seriously why is no one eating here?!?). We were seated quickly and given nice dinner menus to look over. We chose the pulled pork and regular sliders and got chicken tortilla and poblano soup. The food is made to order but it didn’t take very long for it to arrive. I wish we had some sort of appetizer like breadsticks or rolls. But I guess it was a good thing we didn’t fill up on bread before the entrée. Our sliders were pretty good. Not the best I have had but definitely delicious. They were quite miniature but each little bun was toasted. My friend orderedsweet potato fries with her sliders and we all liked them. They had this great oven smokiness that we loved. The chipotle aioli dipping sauce for the fries was also amazing. I had the pulled pork sliders and thought they were cooked beautifully. The pork was tender and sweet. I love chicken tortilla soup so I always order it. This chicken tortilla soup was very pretty. The flavors were clean and nice. It wasn’t too salty but it lacked a bit of depth. A richer broth would have done wonders for it. I would order it again but it’s not the best San Antonio has to offer. The poblano soup was very creamy but incredibly delicious. This is a unique and interesting soup that I think everyone should order when they come here. For dessert– I got the Malva pudding because it was recommended. And thank goodness I did because it was delicious! The flavors were akin to sticky toffee pudding but not overly sweet. The cream and vanilla bean sauce were so good. I enjoyed this dessert with coffee. My friends ordered chocolate lava cake. It was cooked perfectly but I think the Malva pudding tasted much better. Overall a wonderful place to eat lunch or dinner. I’ll definitely be coming back in the near future.

Unreal. Absolutely no words. The food? Delicious. More than delicious. Mouthwatering. A level of savory flavor that fulfills every taste buds desire to be tickled and surprised. I’m a business traveler and will come here every single trip I am in San Antonio. No question. Some quick background. I was here for dinner. I ordered the glazed brie, Bleu bacon burger, and the Malva pudding. I cannot wait to come back and try one of their main entrées. Do yourself a favor. Eat here.

This review is for lunch for two on Monday. service Place was jumping, super busy and this was a Monday! For lunch, you order at a register as you enter the space. The cashier was helpful, calm and unrushed. By the time we sat down, the line had 15 folks and they were even standing outside. Arrive early or late. Once you order, the cashier gives you a number for your table so the food runner can find you with your order. We waited less than five minutes for our food. The food runners were a unique combination of older, very polite gentlemen and younger, professional servers. Despite the crowd, the service was always polite and inviting. bar Although we did not drink at lunch, the bar appears to have two or three stools and a couple of choices of bottled beer. Wine, on the other hand, is the focus here. Lots and lots and lots of regional choices that will address almost any palate. food Think upscale menu choices, fresh ingredients and interesting twists on classic dishes. I had the roast beef sandwich on French roll with sweet potato fries. My wife had the Cobb salad, with avocado and hard-boiled eggs on the side, which the kitchen was happy to do. Food was clearly fresh and prepared with some care and interest. details Space is crowded and slightly noisy, but neither are distracting. Definitely crowded at lunch. Outdoor seating was popular, even though we thought it was HOT! Restaurant is in a strip mall, so relatively easy parking.

The most amazing place and staff. This place is very popular for very good reason. On my last business trip I ate here every other meal and everything I ate was amazing. It was so good that I actually used their catering services for some clients of mine and they loved it as well. The owner was so friendly and welcoming it really didn’t matter what the food tasted like… I’m a customer for life. The place is very charming and I highly recommend it. You will not leave disappointed.

This place was awesome!!! My husband and I ordered a variety of items. We started with the Southwest Calamari. I wish the squid was fried a tad more but other than that, the seasonings were amazing and so was the jalapeño aioli. As our entrees, I ordered the mushroom and leek meatloaf over mashed potatoes and my husband ordered their signature curry dish. Two completely different entrees, but both very pleasing and savory to the palate. The mushroom gravy on the meatloaf was great, But if you’re looking for BOTH sweet and savory, then do the curry. We last ordered desserts: the Melva Pudding and the Lemon Posset. Again, two completely different desserts. The Melva was a «melt in your mouth» experience and paired with the crème anglaise is even better. The Lemon Posset is so tart, yet subtly sweet and balanced well with the ginger crisps. Overall, my experience was nearly perfect. The ONLY drawback is the fact that the food got cold quick because of the temperature of the restaurant, too cold! And it doesn’t help that there are vents nearly over every table.

Solid establishment, 4.5 stars. They took our reservation for 8 without a problem for a Monday dinner. While the restaurant décor itself is nothing memorable, the staff was awesome and it could possibly be due to it being a family operated establishment. The busted sandal porter on draft came in a cool skinny, tall glass. The poblano soup was nothing to rave about. Tasted to me like a creamy soup with a little bit of spice. But the beef curry is amazing, and so different!!! I am very happy my waitress suggested it to me. I was going to just go with the pulled pork sandwich, but I asked her what she thought. She said the beef curry bc it is her family’s traditional recipe. I trusted her suggestion and boy was I happy! The curry is tasty by itself prior to adding the toppings. But once you add the coconut and gold raisin purée it makes the experience fantastic. Mix everything up nice and good, bc your stomach is just going to mix it all up for you anyways, and enjoy the taste of curry and sweet swirling on your palate. I also appreciated that the staff did not rush us, and we spent a solid 2.5 hours there. They were also able to split our check individually. I will be back to try their dessert!!!

I am so glad that I waited to Unilocal my visit here. Why? Because the dine in for lunch vs. dinning in for dinner is quite a different experience and also hosts a different menu. I have been here many times before to dine in for lunch and have never had a bad experience! The food is amazing. This is my first time Unilocaling Picnikins; 1st time ordering«to-go» and first time eating here for dinner. For lunch it is a very busy place. I observed while waiting for my food order, several large orders going out. Standing in line to order for lunch while being seated and waited on by server in the evening for dinner. The employees evening attire is attractive with everyone sporting bow ties, no bow ties for lunch. Dinner was a wow! Loved the salmon piccata served with just the right amount of vegetables which included zucchini, yellow squash, purple onions, red peppers, capers and a sprinkle of parsley. My husband had the meatloaf that was served on top of mashed potatoes; shhhh, I forked a taste of these amazing tots. Also tried my daughters sweet potato fries… yummy…yummy…they know what they’re doing with the sauce that comes with this side. We will be back!
