Bar is sophisticated, comfortable, with impeccable service and an excellent bar menu. Really enjoyed the 90 Shillings draft, Vieux Carre, and the wife her Aviations. French roast oysters are ok, they are sort of gently fried oysters on toast points. I’d have much preferred rockefeller or raw half shell, or some other more traditional treatment. Ribeye was well seared and served at the correct temperature, but it was nearly half fat I had to cut away. Now I love a good ribeye, and I know pockets of fat are part of the cut, but if the cut is half fat, guys, please find some other use for it than to disappoint a diner out of $ 48. Shared sides are actually quite small. That was ok, because the sautéed spinach was so overwhelming garlic, neither of us wanted more than a bite of two. The lobster cream corn had some nice little chunks of lobster and a nice lobster flavor, but was really just a bit too watery. We’ve dined at Bohanan’s many times and I’m certain we’ll be back. It’s charmingly old fashioned, sophisticated and pleasant, but their food has sunk a bit over time and I’m hoping we aren’t quite as disappointed on the next visit. It just seems like it’s time for a little updating. Hope to return soon and have the 4 or 5 star experience I expect from Bohanan’s.

Love their selection of cuts of beef. The sides are always delicious and the desserts are good. I’ve sent my steak back a couple times but then they overcooked it. I just deal with it being cooked wrong if it’s not what I asked for so they won’t over cook it. No big deal but when We’re spending over $ 100 on one steak I would expect them to cook it right the first time. I would of gave 5 stars but after coming here for date nights for five years now, we had a terrible experience dealing with the valet. Now I know they are a paid contract type company but I contact the restaurant via telephone multiple times to make them aware of the situation and never received a call back. I finally vented on Twitter and they FINALLY replied and asked for my contact info for a manager to call me. I provided it and guess what? Never got a call. If you don’t care that much about your patrons then I will spend my money elsewhere.

Absolutely amazing food!!! Great selections of seafood and appetizers also. Top dollar but well worth it in the end. Staff is incredibly helpful and pleasant. I don’t think you can get better quality meat in all of Texas. Located walking distance from The Alamo and Riverwalk. Make sure you try the lobster Mac and cheese, not on the menu but they have it.

One of my favorite restaurants. I love the«go upstairs for dinner» ambiance. The food is exquisite. My Macadamia Encrusted Gulf Red Snapper With a Candied Orange Butter Sauce was beyond words. Really. And I know a lot of words. Their bar is wonderful — great specialty drinks. I do find their dining room a bit strange — cavernous and rather loud. I’m surprised to see people so casually dressed here. But, oh, the food!

Took my boyfriend for his bday to try their famous Wagyu steak. We had reservations and were seated right at our reservation time. We did have to wait at at bar downstairs, but they were having happy hour and we didn’t mind. After taking the elevator to the second floor, we were seated and our waiter promptly introduced himself. We started off with a caprese salad as an appetizer. It is served with a 12 year aged balsamic vinegar and one piece of cheese. It was good, but maybe not worth the $ 16. The free candied jalapeño with cream cheese is delicious. I wish I would have bought a jar when there. For the main course, we had the shrimp, wagyu steak, squash casserole and potatoes au gratin. The sides are shareable and two were enough for us. We even didn’t finish them. My boyfriend states that the steak was tasty, well cooked and did have the melt in your mouth feeling, but that once he was done, he felt like he had eaten a whole cake. He was happy he tried it. For drinks, we had a whiskey flight where we discovered a very good Japanese whiskey, Yamazaki. We also tried two mix drinks and their«interesting» white wine. The service was impeccable.

My husband and I went out for dinner last night. The steak that I had was the best I have ever eaten! It took me about 30 minutes to eat it because I savored every single bite. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere is romantic. We loved it!

By far the best steak I have ever had. Literally melted in my mouth. Service was great, they even gave me a rose for my birthday. Food took a bit to come out but after they reassured us it was because the steaks have to marinate in a marinade when ordered I no longer cared! Great great great! The sides are smaller portions than I am used to considering other steakhouses I have tried in the DFW area, but they are also cheaper! If you are looking for a great steak and experience, this is the place to go!

Fantastic, romantic, superb and do much more. The service is fantastic. We ate here our last night in San Antonio. Enjoyed getting dressed up for date night and after our reservations were ready we were elevated upstairs for a wonderful dining experience. We were celebrating a special occasion so there were rose petals on our table. Fabulous !!!

Not impressed. Way too expensive for portion sizes and it’s good food, but nothing exceptional. I was really expecting to be blown away after reading all the reviews, and I was not. We spent several hundred dollars and still left hungry! The staff all were very pretentious as well. No thank you.

splurge. NOUN 1. an act of spending money freely or extravagantly: Well, Bohanan’s sure met that criteria for us. Three people, three drinks, three appetizers or salads, three entrees, two shared side dishes ran close to two and a half Big Bills for us. But we loved every minute of it. There is a fine line between elegance and pretentiousness, and Bohanan’s never crossed it. Our server Richard, was impeccable, polite, and classy but never even came close to being snooty. Our cocktails(Rich Man Mojito, Ward 8, and Right Hand) ran $ 12 or $ 13 each. My Ward 8(whiskey, orange juice, lemon juice, club soda) was great! It was super refreshing and pretty potent. Our first course was a beautiful Caprese Salad with Heirloom tomato and mozzarella slices drizzled with Balsamic Vinegar for $ 16.95, Seared Sashimi Grade Tuna(Served with Sesame Seaweed Salad, Housemade Ponzu, Asian Aioli, Natural Pickled Ginger, and Wasabi for $ 19.95), and a Knife and Fork Caesar(Artisan Romaine, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Duck-Fried Croutons and Aged Parmesan for $ 9.95). The Tuna app I had was excellent– beautifully sweet tuna slices with a soy based sauce and seawood salad garnish. Entrees were Char Grilled Jumbo Shrimp($ 32.95, and two 16 oz Ribeyes($ 47.95 each). I don’t usually order steaks, but if I go to a steakhouse, that’s what I’m getting. The steak I had was so good– just perfectly cooked and so flavorful. Dinners come without any accompaniments, so we all split two sides –Garlic Mashed potatoes($ 6.95) and Jumbo Asparagus($ 8.95). They were both excellent and so large they were easily splitable. What a wonderful meal and overall experience we had. Thank you Richard and Bohanan’s.

Best steak I have ever had. Amazing atmosphere and delicious food. Service was impeccable. I had the 16 oz rib eye with a side of Mac and Cheese. My wife had the 7 oz filet. I’d recommend the smaller filet, it was delicious.

Bohanan’s is a beautiful setting downtown and they have a wonderful and attentive staff. However, despite all the hype about their prime and even higher end Akaushi steaks, when they under-season and overcook them, as they did with us(we ordered medium rare and the steak was medium WELL) they lose flavor and value. The sides are ok, but not the best I have had AND they are very small portions. Any other restaurant of this type has sufficient sides to share with the table. The macaroni and cheese is not all that good and the potatoes are dry. At best, each side is only sufficient to feed two. Also, don’t waste your time on the Valrhona chocolate desserts; they are over-hyped too, plus, the desserts are only large enough for one person — we enjoy sharing everything with the table! Essentially, with OK appetizers, a couple of bottles of wine for the table, steaks and sides, plus dessert, Bohanan’s costs about 50% more than any other restaurant of this type(Morton’s SA, Wildfish, Perry’s) in the area and the food simply is not as good. At first thought, I considered the fact that the overhead in a prime downtown location may explain this, but Morton’s is also near them, and cheaper. While the ambiance at Bohanan’s far exceeds Morton’s(which has become a chain conglomerate owned by the Landry’s Group), the food at Bohanan’s tastes no better. All in all, I would not go back to Bohanan’s and will stick with Wildfish Seafood Grill, truly the place to go for beef! Their off-menu steaks are better prepared, properly seasoned, their sides are ample enough to feed the entire table and their desserts are better(a couple of desserts will feed the entire table).

Went to have dinner to celebrate date night. That’s what I told them when making the reservation. They had rose petals on table. Major points. Our waiter was great, on point and left us alone enough to enjoy each other but not neglect. Ordered the sweet and spicy kurobuto bacon, it was FANTASTIC! Bacon will never be the same. Also, we started with the classic lettuce wedge. Simple and crisp. They brought to the table sweet jalapeños and cream cheese. Nice treat. Our entrees were the ribeye bone in and the fish special. Both cooked to perfection and flavorful. Load Potato with all the sides, with steak fries in a truffle sauce and rice pancake with cream sauce. Did not care at all for the rice pancake. Followed by a pecan pie desert that was warm and delicious! Great service, wonderful food and great view. Ask to sit overlooking Majestic Theatre for an added bonus.

Bohanan’s is my favorite Steakhouse in San Antonio. They have excellent service, classic upscale chophouse décor, and of course, the best steaks I’ve ever eaten! I recently brought my parents here for a dinner last week, and Bohanan’s was as impressive as any other evening. I shared a perfectly cooked A5 filet with my mom, and my dad had an Akuashi strip. We ended the dinner with the tableside prepared Cherries Jubilee. The flames flew as high as the ceiling, and the dessert was delicious! Service was superb. The second we stepped out of the elevator to the dining room floor, we were greeted by name and led to our table. This high level of service continued throughout the evening including personalized menu recommendations and an attitude that showed genuine care for our dining experience.

I would give six stars if it was possible! My most recent dining experience was even better than before so I had to update my review. It was so memorable that I wanted to give an extra kudos to Sergio, our server. His service was not just impressive, but some of the most personable and attentive I’ve ever experienced. Sergio provided a perfect balance of attention to detail without being overbearing as some high-end servers can be. Food was top grade as usual — we enjoyed the Escargot for an appetizer and the A5 filet and Akuashi Strip for dinner. Topped it off with the Cherries Jubilee once again. The A5 cuts are definitely off the charts when it comes to flavor, tenderness, and quality. Bohanan’s never fails to please, if not, impress!

My husband and I had been looking forward to coming here for a while now after hearing how amazing it was! With a babysitter all lined up and finally able to take a date night together we were able to come here! First little disappointment was our reservation was for 7:30pm and we actually didn’t get seated until 8:15 and we only checked once at 7:50ish and the table was«ready we will call you in a minute»…25 minutes and 2 drinks later we were seated YAY! Service was great, very attentive! I ordered the 16oz ribeye medium rare… bleh… Husband ordered the 24oz Strip medium rare… bleh and RAW!!! We aren’t babies and we like our meat on the rare side but this thing was moo-ing I’m afraid. The steaks were just not what I was expecting at all and was very deflated! Maybe it was an off night? But when you’re paying $ 300 for a nice dinner you really want to be rolled out disgustingly full and happy and we just weren’t :-( Crab cakes were delish! Lobster cream corn was AHHHHmazing, goat cheese mashed potatoes I could eat forever! Wild rice cakes… Bleh save your calories on something else.

Best customer service ever!!! I can see why they consistently receive the AAA four diamond award. The food was divine and the customer service was the icing on the cake. It was our first time there for a company function and we’ve become racing fans! The steaks are cooked to perfection and the crème brûlée dessert was to die for.

We went to Bohanan’s for my mother in law’s birthday. While waiting for our entire party to arrive, we enjoyed a Bourbon drink at the bar — it was very good(and balanced). Our table was in the room next to the kitchen, which was cozy and private. The steaks are high quality and the staff knows their product. Best steak in San Antonio. The sides are good as well, and not overwhelmingly huge. We had the garlic mashed potatoes & creamed spinach. Mark Bohanan came out and chatted with us a bit and to tell my mother in law happy birthday, very nice guy. Service was great, food & drinks were even better. Wonderful place to go for any occasion!

Sad to say, but this past experience at Bohanans was not nearly as fabulous as my first time. Mostly, my decrease in stars has to do with our server and the bill. Our server this night did not give us much attention. Our wine glasses were empty for quite some time before he came over to see if we wanted another. We ordered the off menu Japanese rib eye, which is double the cost of the menu version. He sang generic praises of it, and sure enough… it tasted generic. Do not waste your money on the off menu steaks. The menu filet is wonderful, I will stick with that next time. I do love their side mushrooms, and their wine selection for bottles is endless. Another reason for decreasing the stars to 3 is that they actually charged us $ 7.50 for horseradish sauce on the side, which we needed for the very bland ribeye. Sigh. Such a disappointment for what I thought was a classy place. The next time we come back to Bohanans will be only for the Jazz and drinks in the downstairs portion. We will skip dinner though.

For the price tag, I expected much much better from Bohanan’s. I was sadly disappointed in the food, atmosphere, and the service. In a place like Bohanan’s, where an average bill is going to be around $ 75, you want to walk in and feel special. We did not. The downstairs bar had a pretty cool vibe, but after going upstairs to eat dinner, it felt like we had entered an old restaurant that desperately needed some updating from the 80s. Our servers were nice and friendly, but I’ve had servers at less expensive restaurants who were just as nice and friendly and attentive who aren’t expecting a $ 40+ tip per table. We were offered still or sparkling water, which was great because we love sparkling water. But to add that carbonation is gonna cost you — $ 13 to be exact. We were also given the complimentary starter of bread, cream cheese, and jalapeños, as well as rolls before the meal. The cream cheese dip was okay, and the rolls were reminiscent of cafeteria rolls of my childhood. That’s not a bad thing really, but it wasn’t what I was expecting when I bit into it. I went back and forth between some of the seafood plates and the vegetarian platter. I wish I would’ve ordered the seafood, because the vegetarian platter lacked any creativity or flavor. The fettuccine was the one high point on my dish. My husband ordered one of the $ 50 steaks and requested it medium rare. It came out medium to medium well. We probably should’ve sent it back, because in a steakhouse this fancy, the least they can do is get the steak cooked properly. It was a great cut of beef, and my husband enjoyed it, so it’s not as though it was bad. Just cooked poorly. The truffle fries were pretty good, although they could’ve used some additional seasoning or salt. They were doused with oil, and the truffle flavor was prevalent. I feel a bit bad about tearing Bohanan’s apart. It may be that Bohanan’s typical clientele is a bit different than me, and they are probably not too worried about impressing young Millennials when trying to reach and please an older generation. ButI think if you’re wanting to go out and feel special, and you’re willing to shell out the big bucks to do so, there are so many places in SA that I think are more deserving of your hard earned money.(Cured, for example.) Don’t waste your time here.
