It was OK. Fast & Friendly staff. I ordered the Chile Relenos. It was ok but nothing that I would order again… Not sure I would eat at this restaurant again. But it wasn’t bad.

You talk about a fall from grace. At one time I loved this spot but since I have been to Taqueria Guerrero this place fails by comparison. I stopped in and had the tacos which was the worst tacos I have ever had in my life. The meat was tasteless, I would have had better tacos from Taco Bell. This was the biggest let down I have seen. Plus on top of that its expensive for what is served. The Tres Leche cake which was one of the reasons why I stopped here was burnt at the bottom and had a charred taste all the way through. I dont think I will be going back here again.

I could have sworn that I wrote a review for this restaurant, I know I have eaten here in the past. They do have outdoor seating for nice days. The salsa is very liquid-y, not much«stuff» in it at all. Today, I ordered the steak burrito. After the first bite and a piece of fatty meat, I unrolled it in order to better see what I was eating. Well, that was the only fatty piece. It was good also using the chips as an edible utensil. The service was a bit stand-offish, but good. The interior is very kitchy in a sense of a lot of paraphernalia that seemed authentic, with an air of being very casual. The entire experience seems to be lacking something. I’m just not sure what it is that is missing.

Not great. And you would think with the authentic crew you’d get great food. The complementary salsa was too spicy… and coming from me that means the devil himself picked the peppers. It was a family outing, we got the torta plate, 1 mole enchilada, 3 tacos, and steak nachos. To drink we got the fresh mango and tamarind drinks. The drinks were at best pretty good. The food while edible was in no way, shape or form good. Our meal was 55 bucks. Take your money and eat some where else. Juan’s Flying Burrito is a good choice.

Meh. Really was hoping for better. Live around the corner, went once, was underwhelmed and don’t plan to return.

I always pass this place but have never gone inside. I had a bit of time before my next meeting and stopped in. I am so glad I did. The service was fast and friendly. They immediately brought out perfectly salted chips with two delicious house made salsas. The menu is a bit overwhelming but I knew I wanted a Sandia(watermelon) juice and it was so refreshing with the perfect amount of sweet! I decided on the chicken tacos and they came with a good sized portion of beans and rice– I shouldn’t have eaten the whole thing but I did. I saved my salsa and added it to the meal and then used the chips to scoop up the tacos filling that had fallen. Delicious! Great artwork as well!

Fun and cheap place for Mexican food and drinks. It’s semi-authentic food wise, and I LOVE the option for outdoor dining. Mostly due to the proximity to my house, I’ll be visiting again in the near future.

This is one of my favorite places to go. Went here once when it was the only place open, and I loved everything I ordered. The owner was there and was very friendly. I’ve been here many times since, and enjoy everything I order. Highly recommend the Jarochas.

Excellent, well priced Mexican-Puerto Rico food. We had an excellent waiter, Frank, but he was terminated. Not going to eat there anymore, they fired my favorite waiter!

Food Poisoning! Came here with my fiancé on our first night of vacation in NOLA. This place was located near the AirBnB we stayed at and overall, Unilocal reviews looked decent so we decided to stop by. The fiancé had a dish with shrimp and the very next day he started to feel low grade food poisoning symptoms, until they progressively escalated day by day. Doing a deeper dive of Unilocal reviews, this isn’t the first time someone’s had food poisoning from this joint. I will say that the customer service was wonderful, the chips and salsa were especially tasty, and the mojito I had was strong and delicious.

I had a craving for Flautas last night and didn’t feel like driving out to Superior. And why should I when I’m lucky enough to have another Mexican restaurant option, Panchitas, right around the corner in my ‘hood?! The Flautas meal comes with rice, beans, and a side salad. At a glance from the menu, this seems to be a generous, balanced meal. And it would be, except none of it delivered any sort of flavor. Not a single bite triggered a «yum». The salad was a pile shredded iceberg topped with a sliver of avacado and a thin ring of red onion. After the first bite, I added some beans to it. After that, I just gave up. The Flautas were actually three over-cooked taquitos with shredded leather… I mean beef… inside. It’s a sad indicator when dunking it in sour cream couldn’t even help. Again, I gave up. The only part of my order that I enjoyed was the fiesta queso. It was thick and spicy. The chips to accompany it were stale and without a trace of salt. At this point, I was so disappointed in what was supposed to be my meal that I didn’t even care. That queso saved me! It’s clear to me that the next time I have a craving for Mexican food, I’ll be taking that drive across Uptown.

There is still hope for Mexican Cuisine in New Orleans. The staff here won my heart before I even ordered. I have to give them credit on breaking the standard of what is considered good customer service in this city. They are quick to provide suggestions, they know their food, and can make adjustments if you like it muy caliente! The menu is can sometimes be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know what you want or you came in super hungry. Breakfast which is served all day is always a good choice. I like the huevos a la mexicana. Simple, affordable, and with some salsa makes for an amazing meal! Lunch and dinner options are great too! You can always stick to the basics with a taco salad, burrito, taco, or quesadilla but try to venture out and find your flavor! What to keep in mind for those trying this place for the first time. Restaurant flavor caters to locals. In many cases when you go places like Taco Bell, Filipe’s, and other chains that don’t understand Mexican food, alterations just don’t work. Talk to the staff here and ask questions. I’m sure they will work something out to meet your Mexican Cuisine Standards.

Love this place, great location, efficient service, complimentary chips and salsa(verde and roja) which are fantastic. The burritos, tacos and garanchitas are all delicious. The tortillas are home made in each case. The nacho platter looks good too. Will definitely return. This is a great little spot for decently priced authentic mexican cuisine.

Just stopped in for lunch with my best gal! We got the choriqueso(chorizo queso for those of you who are not so clever) and the sampler platter. The choriqueso was very greasy, but very good. It came in the little iron skillet they use to cook it, and it was definitely made to order, which is always a plus. On the sampler platter, we got a beef tostada, a chicken tostada, a chicken stuffed jalapeño, a chicken enchilada, a beef taquito, a chicken tamale, a fried plantain, and rice and beans. I enjoyed tasting all the items, but I did notice they had an interesting and different flavor palette than a normal Mexican dish. And my SO was not a fan of some of the flavors, but still got her fill. I noticed that Panchita’s advertises as «Mexican Criolla Cuisine.» So I looked up criolla and it’s Puerto Rican! So then I looked at the primary flavors/spices and sure enough — tarragon, basil, and bay leaves are big parts of criolla cooking. And that’s what we were tasting, and that’s what my SO was not a fan of. It’s unfair to de-rate Panchita’s on its authenticity just because we weren’t fans of it. The food was not bad, in fact, I really enjoyed most of it. It was just different — not what I’m used to. And I don’t know that I’d choose it over other types of Latin food. So I give them four stars for authenticity, service, atmosphere, and quantity/price. I’d recommend if you’re looking for Puerto Rican /Mexican, just don’t expect the typical Mexican or Tex-Mex flavors you’d find at most places around the area.

Every time I go to a new(and sometimes when I am a repeat customer) Mexican restaurant I get tacos. I think you can always judge a joint based on how they make their tacos. And their tacos were good. Plus it was served as a lunch meal, including rice and beans. I went with a friend so we ordered the fiesta queso as well. If I have one recommendation for any/all people going here… get the fiesta queso. It was so very yummy. Although be careful, because after all that food I was stuffed! The service was also really good. We opted to sit outside and not once did I feel like we were being neglected. Because let me tell you, my water glass was never empty(except when we left). And that is always a win in my book.

ME: The entomatado sounds interesting, I’ve never had one. How is it? SERVER: Anh, it’s just a tortilla that we cover with some sour cream and cheese. What an uninpressive first un-impression. I settled on the sampler platter and it was a mixed bag as well. The enchilada was pretty darn good slathered in their tasty green sauce. I should have had it with chicken though(instead of the stringy beef) and asked for extra queso fresco — which is delicious. The stuffed jalapeño is also good, but partially because it’s deep fat fried. However the rest of my meal was terrible. The tamale is essentially a gritty fat roll of cornmeal with a thin line of pulled pork. The black beans are pasty and lack flavor. The chips are overly fried. EATATTAQUERIAGUERRERO for a better more authentic meal.

I liked this place, a LOT. The only way they could be a more authentic Mexican restaurant is if they had a chicken running around between the tables. From the décor to the menu selections, and the abundant use of crumbled queso fresca instead of shredded cheddar cheese, this is the real deal, y’all! It isn’t the usual Tex-Mex, or Cali-style burrito joints(that I also love). They even have Mexican Coke in a bottle! As referenced in Jill C.‘s review, I ordered the taco salad with grilled beef, no fried bowl. The salad was delicious and fresh(also low-carb and gluten-free) and the beef was VERY flavorful. I will definitely order that again! Another bonus in my book: they serve the breakfast items ALLDAY! I can’t wait to go back and try some more of the menu, maybe I’ll sit outside and see if that chicken comes around.
