Felipe’s is a weekly go-to spot for us. It is a very casual restaurant where you order from a line and seat yourself. The food is good and fresh. The frozen margaritas go down easy. Our neighbor tended bar at the downtown location and told us that they’re made with fresh, simple ingredients — no mixes here. The hardest part of the experience is finding a seat!

Some of the best value for food in all of Nola. Felipe’s follows the highly popular Chipotle fast casual choose-your-burrito-fillers checkout model but THEFOODHASFLAVOR. Every potential burrito stuffed item is seasoned very well, and most of the non-burrito items, such as nachos, tacos, taco bowls, etc. are great value as well. Go with the Chicken Tynga in your burrito over the classic Chicken. Chicken Tyna = shredded chicken soaking in a spicy chipotle seasoned sauce that is delicious. The queso and guacamole are as good as you’ll find anywhere.

We enjoyed a nice Mexican take-out meal at Felipe’s down the street I had the pork tamale delicious and the chicken flautas with sour cream guacamole they were very good and my husband had the 10 inch Burritos and it was huge and plenty to eat Very nice staff and we had margaritas and a beer to go perfect meal and not very pricey.

I’m a fan. Better than burgers and consistently good/better than what you would make at home for yourself. Their queso and chips are a solid fave. Nachos are great. Fish tacos are great. We usually get dinner and a pair of veggie quesadillas for lunch the following day because REALGRILLEDVEGGIES! None of that sad onion pepper crap.

I learned of Felipe’s as a Tulane student and now as a permanent Nola resident, it is in my weekly lunch/dinner rotation. I dine at this location most often but have frequented their French Quarter and Mid-City location as well and their food quality and service is consistent among all of the locations. There are times that I wish they’d open up both service lines but they are able to work through a crowd pretty quickly. My favorite is a regular or super burrito(depending on how hungry I am) with chorizo(spicy sausage – closet thing to ground beef but it is SPICY!), rice, black beans, lettuce jalapenos, and sour cream. They used to charge you for sour cream which was annoying but they no longer do that(they told me that having switched to a squeeze bottle allows them to control how much they put on each dish which helps them with cost control). They still charge for items like corn, extra meat, guacamole and stuff so just be aware of that in case you don’t want to end up paying $ 15+ for a burrito! Other items I’ve had and enjoy are the tacos, quesadillas, plato, nachos, nd the soup(very good while fighting a cold!). The make-it-a-combo option is a great add on – you get chips and 2oz of any dip and a small drink for a nominal price. For dessert, the churros are delicious and freshly made! Sometimes my husband and I will dine at the bar – I’m not the biggest fans of their margaritas but the food sure makes it all better. The best part about Felipe’s is the price. It is very affordable and at least you know you are eating quality ingredients instead of fast food crap that may actually cost you more than something delicious from here. If you couldn’t already tell, Felipe’s is by far my favorite Mexican joint in Nola!

I’ve been to Felipe’s uptown and at the North Peters location in the French Quarter MANY times, sometimes with the wife for a date and sometimes with the kids for a family meal — it works for both. We keep going back because we’ve never had a bad experience. I note that the French Quarter location isn’t represented on Unilocal, which is a pity, because it’s a great place to duck in for a good meal in the quarter without having to wait as long behind an hours-long line of tourists, and because the quality is better than a lot of the tourist traps with their captive audiences. You know how you often sit down in a restaurant and start looking through the menu for that particular dish that is done the way YOU like it and includes all of YOUR favorite ingredients? Part of the great fun of Felipe’s is that you get to build your own dream meal. First: expectations. Felipe’s is counter service with seating. This is not Commander’s Palace, or even Chili’s. Second, but most importantly: FRESHINGREDIENTS! I’ve always been able to count on super fresh ingredients across the board at Felipe’s. Cilantro, jalapenos, you name it, always seems like it came out of the garden earlier in the day. Third: flavor! Because you’re building your own, you can choose anywhere between mild and wild. I like my Mexican food with some fire, and Felipe’s can really deliver. There’s no shortage of fresh peppers if that’s your game, and the fixin’s bar really delivers with a variety of different hot sauces(at least half a dozen, from mild to fiery, from green to orange to red), and a terrific fresh cilantro/sweet onion pico that I just love. Fourth: good meat. The steak is juicy, the carnitas flavorful, the chicken tender, and none of the meats have ever had a problem with gristle or the like. Just solid and consistent quality. Fifth: Price. Because … damn, that’s a bargain. Notes: The margaritas are solid, but nothing to write home about. The service(remember, it’s counter service) is solid as well. The bar(uptown and in the Quarter) can be a bit slow at times, but not offensively so. Little New Orleans tip o’ the day — at Halloween, get to Felipe’s for dinner about two hours before Krewe of Boo rolls, then stake out a spot to watch the parade on the sidewalk out front — the parade route runs right past Felipe’s. Now you’ve got easy bathroom access and a straight shot to margarita refills while you wait — and this is the sort of place where they don’t mind if you brought your Jazz Fest chair to your table with you. Felipe’s is a niche — but within it’s niche, it is a the top of the heap.

I think my record for Felipe’s visits in a week tops out around 4. It’s safe to say that I love this place. What I love is Felipe’s engages your creativity. Every time I go I have to try a new combination of the fresh and unique ingredients. The service is always wonderful, these guys can definitely roll a burrito. The full bar is a nice touch, and their margaritas are outstanding; they offer a significant bang for your buck too. I’ll echo a few other reviews and say that the parking is sometimes a little tight, but it’s well worth it!

I have frequented this location many times. It is always neat and clean, the parking can be a bit tight. I like the layout. It seems that this was the first to start off the production line making of mexican foods. The pricing can be a bit odd with some of the items(Guacamole) being extra, and cheese being added to your burrito before they warm it up being extra. It is fast, inexpensive, great ice and decent service. I like a «fast food» place with a full service bar. Pretty darn awesome in my opinion, and I look forward to coming back.

Felipes has the best nachos I’ve tried in the city. Nachos are an occasional treat for me so I was really, really looking forward to it. I waited in line for 20 minutes yesterday only to be told they were out of nachos. Restaurants everywhere, please take note: If you are out of a major menu item, take 30 seconds and post a sign on your front door informing customers of this so they don’t waste 20 minutes of their life waiting for something that doesn’t exist. I’m swearing off this location of Felipes for a while even though it’s the most convenient one. The Carrolton and French Quarter, hell even the Slidell location beats the pants off this one, in terms of both food quality and atmosphere. My meal always seems to cost more at this location even though the prices are the same across the board; I think the cashiers are up to some shady business.

This fast and authentic joint is my go-to on crammed days/nights. The staff all speak Spanish, and are extra friendly if you attempt to order in Spanish. The food is always fresh and the prices are unbeatable. I’ve been going here for 4 years and it’s consistently good. I usually get a super burrito but the tacos are awesome and the guacamole is wonderful.

I recently moved to NOLA from Texas and have been in search of some good Mexican food. One of my classmates suggested this place. I checked out Unilocal, and it seemed to have pretty decent reviews. My boyfriend and I met my classmate and her boyfriend on a Friday evening right at the dinner rush hour. I ordered a chimichanga. The selections for fillings were plentiful. They offer tinga chicken, carnitas, steak, and chorizo. They also had refried black and pinto beans, whole black and pinto beans, rice, veggies, salsas, sour cream, and guacamole. I opted for a chicken chimichanga. My boyfriend ordered the carnitas. I went to pay and noticed my burrito had not been fried(a chimichanga is a fried burrito for those that aren’t familiar). I was given a very miffed«sorry» from the cashier and a look of «what do you want me to do about it?» Because it was so busy I just opted to eat the burrito. Now, I’ve had a lot of Mexican food in my life. I wasn’t expecting the best burrito in the world, but I was expecting something that was at least flavorful. The burrito was quite possibly the worst I have ever had. The chicken wasn’t seasoned, the beans were underdone(I ordered the whole black beans), the rice was crunchy, and the sour cream tasted more like sour cream«product.» My boyfriend’s carnitas burrito was okay. The carnitas were tender, but extremely under seasoned. I have to say I probably won’t be back. It’s irritating when you don’t get what you order and have no effort from staff to rectify the situation. When what you do eat is under seasoned and bland it makes it even worse. I honestly can’t understand how this restaurant has such high reviews. I can only assume it’s from a bunch of people who’ve never had properly prepared Mexican inspired dishes.

First time I fell in love with Felipe’s was at this location. This location save my life many a day. When living on a budget, this is my #1 New Orleans Food spot. I mean a burrito from this place packs all the necessary food groups, and it tastes good as hell. I traveled from Mid-City to Uptown just for a burrito. It could be 930pm at night, and close at 10… I’m going. Thank God, Mid-City now has a Felipe’s, less travel. The staff were a little slow in the beginning, but they have all definitely found their groove and tend to the patrons as swiftly and quickly as the Uptown location.

Felipe’s is damn good. When I was a Tulane student, I frequented Felipe’s for food and drinks alike. The tacos, burritos, and quesadillas are delicious — I recommend the chicken tinga or al pastor pork for your protein. The queso is tasty, service is quick and polite, and the prices are cheap. I came often for the margarita special on Wednesday nights — only four dollars for a huge, strong, delicious marg. Overall, awesome flavorful food for a reasonable price!

Felipe’s is by far one of my favorite food stops in the city. Their ingredients are always fresh, high quality, and flavorful(something that is often missing from other Mexican chains). My favorites are the nachos and burritos. Don’t miss the grilled veggies in whatever you get, they’re to die for!

Felipe, such a good standard in NOLA Mexican cuisine. Now, I’m not going to gush on and on because although golf, Felipe is not great. But none the less, if you are looking for a good Mexican pace for a bunch of friends where everyone is going to leave full and happy, Felipe’s is your go to place.

I actually didn’t know this Felipe’s existed. Situated in a little small dead end street. You could literally miss this location. It’s actually not too far from the FrostTop. This location is actually pretty good as a lunch spot. To grab something quick or for a short run to dine in. It’s actually a pretty decent size location for the looks of the building. It’s not too pack so you should be fine getting in and/or getting a table. The probably biggest issue is the parking. It’s a share small lot and the parking is just not really available so be advised about that. The food was pretty decent. I wasn’t excited but the steak quesidillas got the job done. It’s a very loud location so make sure they heard you order.

Great little burrito place just close to Tulane on the other side of Claiborne drive. It’s kind of hidden back behind the main shopping center that you can see from the street. Felipe’s is something of a local chain in New Orleans; they have a handful of other locations as well so be aware if you’re meeting people there. Burritos are available in two sizes, the regular and the 10″ giant. The usual options of cheese, sour cream vegetables and a variety of meats are available. Certain addons like guacamole will incur an extra cost. The service is fast and efficient, the food is delicious. All locations feature a full bar. The centerpiece and highlight of Felipe’s is the salsa bar, a small selection of salsas and taco garnishes such as pickled onions, radishes and more are available. I personally tend to pile on the pickled onions, I swear I could eat the things just by themselves. The parking at this particular location leaves a little bit to be desired as it’s a narrow, claustrophobic lot that can be a bit difficult to navigate. If you have a larger car might be better off parking on the street.
