We enjoyed our dinner here on our 4-day tour of New Orleans! Our server was really friendly, and it was nice to get to a different neighborhood. RESERVATIONS Made about a week in advance for four of us at 6pm on a Saturday. COST $ 172.22 before tip, split four ways. We got a couple drinks, 3 starters, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. Not bad! MUST-HAVES Small plates: French Fries & Crispy Skin Duck Confit. Large plates: Ribs! Dessert: Thai Chili Chocolate Chess Pie, Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding. SMALLPLATES * Hamachi Sashimi w/House Fermented Kimchi($ 13) — 3 stars A little underwhelming. Definitely a subtle dish, compared to most things at Boucherie. The fish’s texture was a bit hard. * Fresh Cut French Fries w/Garlic Butter & Parmesan Reggiano($ 6) — 4 stars This was great! Even though they were thin cut, there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of crisp. It had a great balance of soft and crunchy. The seasonings plus the parm were fantastic. Plus, it’s such a large bowl for only $ 6. * Crispy Skin Duck Confit(w/sweet onion dumpling, burnt rye, beet chips, & dirty martini bagna cauda. $ 13) — 4.5 stars Delicious! The meat was so moist, and the skin’s sharp crisp was the perfect complement. All the flavors came together really well. LARGEPLATES * Saint Louis Style Niman Ranch Pork Ribs(w/creamed green onions, house made american cheese & fried shallots. $ 17) — 4.5 stars One of the favorites at the table! The ribs are tender & packed with flavor, plus you get that nice crunch from the fried shallots. It comes with a small cast iron pan of the creamed green onions, which is rich, soupy, and gritty. Great for dipping! * Pan Seared Duck Breast w/Gnocchi Bolognese & Garlicky Rapini($ 18) — 4 stars Very nicely done. The duck, very soft & tender. The flavors are just right. A little bit more of a simple dish than our other entrees, less«wow» factor, and a bit smaller. * Applewood Smoked Scallops(w/wood grilled root vegetables, lemongrass soubise & Kaffir lime aioli. $ 20) — 4 stars Nicely done, and like the duck breast, a little less wow factor. But they got the texture of the scallop just right — it slices through so easily, and it’s not overcooked. * Pomegranate Glazed Pork Shank(a daily special. w/Israeli cous cous, purple carrots & leek flour gremolata. $ 23) — 3.5 stars This has the wow factor, as the shank is a huge impressive chunk of meat. The glazed flavors are good, but unfortunately once you get inside to the meat it is quite dry. The dish definitely could’ve used more sauce, and that sauce and cous cous could’ve used much more flavor! DESSERT * Thai Chili Chocolate Chess Pie($ 6) — 4.5 stars Loved this! Rich and moist, with a crumbly crust that added crunch. Love their house made whipped cream too — such thick texture, and not too sweet. * Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding($ 6) — 4.5 stars Also amazing! This was crazy rich, and you have to eat it fast as the bread is hot and the ice cream is already melting when it gets to your table. Super moist, soft bread.

Boucherie was really a 2.5 for me. I bumped them up because of the Krispy Crème bread pudding. Here’s the breakdown. We had the Caesar salad, shrimp and grit cake and fries for apps. They were all just ok. Actually, the salad wasn’t worth eating. The menu sounded great. The dishes had flavor, but nothing was good. The fries were the best of all our apps and the Caesar was easily the weakest dish. In between apps and the main courses, I saw a roach crawling on the wall. I killed it. It’s Louisiana and these things happen. It was a little unnerving because the proximity of roach to Shari V. But I told Shari V it was a moth, and we pushed on. Game over if she would have seen it. I had the wagyu brisket and Shari had the snapper. Both of these sounded great but were really mediocre. Throughout our dinner, Boucherie didn’t deliver anything to rave about. We were pretty disappointed until dessert. The waiter sold us on the Krispy Kreme bread pudding. We were about to peace out and grab dessert at Sucre, but I am glad we didn’t. The bread pudding was a 5⁄5. I get bread pudding a lot and I really enjoyed Boucherie’s verson. Hot krispy kreme doughnut as the bread and a scoop of vanilla to top it off. Totally redemption. I won’t repeat dinner at Boucherie, but I’ll get back for dessert. Shari V quote: «I didn’t like the place before you told me about the roach.»

Who starts off any review with talking about a side dish? Well, when its the best commercial version of collard greens you’ve had in your life, I think its earned that right. Having been born a Yankee I wasn’t exposed to collard greens until I arrived in New Orleans at the age of 19, until then the closest I had gotten to cooked leafy greens was spinach. Spinach was generally steamed, a pad of butter(if you were lucky!) for your individual serving and sometimes the whole Yankee spice cabinet was thrown at it(yes, both salt & pepper). Over the years my experience with commercial collards has been something ranging from boiled in water to dipping the metaphorical chef’s toe in the deep end, but unfortunately no one ever commits to the long term relationship that is a great collard green dish. Be it barbecue, soul or any variation of restaurant that attempts to serve collards they typically turn out a dish that appeals to the masses. Often letting you know that there’s vinegar, hot sauce, or other seasonings on the table to suit your taste. There’s generally never been a commitment to the dish. For places that are adamant that their specific fish, pork, beef dish etc. be prepped/seasoned, and cooked in such a specific way they would often over look this side dish. Why not dance with the one you brought? That was until my first and not my last visit to Boucherie. The visionary behind these collards has had a lifelong relationship with these greens from a schoolyard crush, going steady, promise ring… and now hopefully till death parts them. From being cooked to perfect texture with plenty of animal fats(I believe pork & duck fat) and seasoned with what would resemble an East North Carolina vinegar based barbecue sauce(dry rub included). Just how good were these collards? Well when Craig Robinson(of «It must be some kind of hot tub time machine» fame) walked into the restaurant at closing time and was turned away, I was too busy stuffing my face full of these greens to even get up and say«Hi». No greens for you Mr. Robinson… Overall Boucherie delivered exactly what I was hoping for from start to finish. Items consumed that night included cocktails(Johnny 99, Sophia Loren), crawfish soup, hamachi sashimi, blackened shrimp, **collard greens**, duck confit, and Krisy Kreme bread pudding with house made vanilla ice cream washed down with a pre-warmed glass of Remy Martin. Dined 4÷30÷16(Saturday night, second Jazzfest weekend)

What a relaxing, hip without being a jackass about it, interesting restaurant going on in a charming part of New Orleans to check out that not every visitor does. You can take the trolley out here if you are staying central and so near the line. It has all of the cutting edge creativity(and obsession with pork dishes) meets Creole cuisine satisfaction of many more central New Orleans food renaissance restaurants like Cochon, etc, but the prices are 30% less and their attitude seemed refreshingly less pious. We tried several things, and everything was delicious except, ironically their overhyped pork with cracklings etc dish. That was so meh I almost sent it back, and I was a little bummed our otherwise sweet waiter(who pushed the dish) didn’t notice how little of it I ate, and offer to swap it for something else. If you have the ability to make lovely slow cooked pork dishes or already have similar dishes you love at other places you frequent — skip this dish. It is like some busy Mom’s slow cooked crockpot pork shoulder cooked to mushy, packed into a geometric shape to look chic, and topped with slightly upscale pork rinds to further try and sex it up. I live in Austin, TX. where I take cooking my pork with big flavor and melt in your mouth texture seriously, as does many of our restaurants and especially BBQ joints. And Tex Mex places, with their stupendous carnitas. I’d love to treat the Boucherie staff to a 5 covered dish taste tour of my top 5 different Austin slow cooked pork dishes. I think it would inspire the Boucherie folk to either way up their game on that particular dish or drop it from the menu. But everything else was delicious, fairly priced, and creative but also sating. And a lovely atmosphere in a charming old house off a beautiful and historic New Orleans moss canopy draped boulevard.

Been twice, one lunch one dinner. Both were excellent. The food is creative and very well executed. Service is also very good. Small place. Tables are a bit small but they make it work. Cocktails also good. Noise levels pretty high.

Get the fries. Worth it. I’ve had most items on the menu and I have enjoyed them all. My husband always orders the ribs and the meat literally falls off the bone. Speaking of the bone, it’s so tender that we bring the bones home for our dog(a 13 year old poodle/terrier mix that is missing teeth and going blind and deaf). I think she enjoys the bones as much as my husband enjoyed the meat.

My parents and I went there for lunch today as it’s highly reviewed and in a walking distance to our accommodation. We had beef brisket, grilled scallops, steamed mussels and one dessert. The food was great but my mom had one really bad mussel. We stopped having the rest of the dish as we didn’t want to get sick on our first day in New Orleans(we are visiting from Chicago.) I told our waiter about the mussel and hoped similar thing don’t happen to the others. To my surprise, he wanted me to point out which one was not fresh that made me feel I was a trouble maker. After I showed him, he didn’t have any reaction, not even said anything, but taking our plates as we finished. I tipped him for my manner, not for his overall service. My mom and I got stomach ache on our way back after the lunch. As we just landed in the morning and only shared food at Boucherie, I believe it is the mussels. I loved the place and the food but they can definitely do a better job at service and the quality of ingredients for their customers, who are not expecting to get sick and have a unproductive day; and for visitors who traveled a long way to experience food and music of the city.

Always a great place to eat dinner. Servers are actually happy to be working. Indoor/outdoor dining. The indoor seating is very small(and can get a little loud) so make reservations. Moscow Mule was my drink and the ginger beer used was VERY spicy. For my small plate, I got the collard greens and they were AMAZING! GETTHESE! For my large plate I got the brisket. Bold flavor and very tender… not overfilling either. To finish, I tried the Krispy Kreme bread pudding and the Tai Chili Chocolate Chess Pie. GOODGRIEF. The most unique desserts I’ve ever had. The bread pudding tastes like you’re standing in the middle of a Krispy Kreme shop while eating a bread pudding… amazing. The chili chocolate pie has a very smooth, mild flavor and fluffy texture. A few seconds later, you get a slight spicy feel on your tongue… very unique. Eat here tonight… it’s great.

My sis and I had a wonderful time! Everyone who worked there was gracious and helpful. Our server steered us in the right direction right off the bat. He let us know the most popular and his favorite. Everything was great from the fries to the snapper and duck to the Krispy Kreme donut bread pudding. Service is excellent! Small place, make a reservation !

A fun upscale bbq and comfort food place. Took my parents here, and everything had bold flavor. Artichoke soup was a big hit, and the pork ribs were extraordinarily tender for being on the larger/thicker side(don’t think these were baby backs). The fried green tomato caprese was an inventive and yummy side with the ribs. The signature Wagyu beef brisket in Coke-infused bbq sauce was good. I think we got a leaner cut… a fattier cut would probably be super tender(if you can ask for that). The parmesan garlic fries that came with it were highly addictive, tons of flavor with generous amounts of seasoned salt. Also the duck confit had pretty good quantity and very tender/moist. There was a good amount of salt in some of the dishes(like the duck confit), which I don’t mind, but if that’s not your thing than you may want to consider that or ask them which dishes are appropriate. I like the vibe here, an easygoing casual restaurant for friends and family of all ages.

So on our first night visiting New Orleans I found this place via Unilocal, after read review and seeing the pictures, I decided to check it out. We both order the same thing(I normally like to order different thing but nothing else caught my attention) We order a small plate Ceaser salad It was a different way of preparing but still good For our big plate we order Wagyu Beef brisket and garlicky Parmesan fries It was delicious we did not want to finish our meal! For dessert we order The chocolate ganache I’m a chocolate lover and really enjoyed this As for our drink he had the Pimm’s cup and I tried the Johnny 99 which is served in a champagne flute Johnny 99 was good but I decided to order the Pimm’s cup after that Over all the meal was good but small We were still hungry

My favorite restaurant in New Orleans. I talk about it so much that my friends asked to go on a double date for Valentine’s Day. I would write more, but can’t, because I’m in a food coma. Go there. Order everything!

On a recent trip a girl friend and I ate here. I was really looking forward to it and I am so glad we went! Remember when you read these reviews: all of their entrees are under $ 20. We started with a few cocktails — both great. Had the Pimm’s Cup and the Sophia Loren. Then the Boudin Balls(pretty good but wasn’t blown away) and a wagyu beef special served medium rare were Bearnaise and crispy potatoes. It was amazing. I had the Wagyu brisket with the parmesan fries — it was really great, everything I hoped for. My friend had the Applewood Smoked Scallops and she wasn’t a fan. She didn’t realize they would have something spicy on top of them. Honestly I wasn’t blown away by this dish either, from what I tasted. We ordered desert too and it was delicious but not what I expected. We ordered a chocolate ganache terrine and it was so hard(because it was cold) that the waitress had to bring us a knife. The cookie it was served with was bland. Would recommend and I would go again. Service was excellent. Nice atmosphere.

Such a weird eating experience. Not at all what we expected, especially given Boucherie’s reputation and glowing reviews. We expected traditional New Orleans cooking, given that the word«Boucherie» describes a Cajun meat tradition. But we were instead met with several weird molecular gastronomy-type plates. The first dish we ordered was a small plate special described as «wild salmon with fried scallop chips and something I can’t remember» and gave no indication that it would be 100% raw sashimi salmon. Our waitress didn’t mention this either. It came with beet horseradish, a tiny bagel-type thing, a ball of unidentified foam, and whatever«scallop chips» are(not the seafood). We then ordered another small plate(baked apple en croute & pimienton sausage w/whipped English cheddar) and a «large plate»(applewood smoked scallops w/oat & persimmon crêpe, nori glazed pumpkin, & persimmon kosho). No huge complaints about the scallops in terms of flavor, but the plate was TINY– 3 scallops. Same size as the small plates, but more expensive. The small plate was not«apple en croute» because there was no apple to be found… except for in the weird cubes of apple gelatin that came on the side. The sausage was ground up and had a very weird taste, especially with the cheese on the side. We finished with the Krispy Kreme bread pudding as this is the signature dessert, and it was the only thing we were impressed by. It was also more substantial than anything else we ordered. Overall, this meal left us very unsatisfied and confused, and our wallets sad. Trying to save others from the experience we had here. The whole time I was thinking about the delicious and cheap food at Lebanon’s Café next door and how I wished I was eating there. It’s extremely rare to walk out of a restaurant in New Orleans feeling completely unimpressed, but Boucherie somehow managed to do it.

I thought I’ve had good barbecue before, but now I know better. Easily the best beef brisket I’ve had in my life. Also a plus for having Asian inspired dishes. I loved this so much that I’m posting this review while still seated at the restaurant.

By far our most delicious, expertly-prepared meal while visiting New Orleans! It began when our Über driver told us the story of the chef/owner being shot and returning to work immediately, going from a food truck to this cozy establishment. I was already hooked. Then the deliciousness came out. It took a while, longer than we wanted, but oh how tasty it was. I had a Pimms Cup to start, which they bragged was the best in the city — it was refreshing, tasty, and mighty fine on a insanely-hot NOLA summer day. We had this tricked-out appetizer: churro + chicken liver pâté + peaches. Uhhhh I can haz more?! Then I had the BBQ shrimp po’ boy which was super tasty, but with way too much bread leftover. More shrimps please! We ended the meal with Krispy Kreme bread pudding — I didn’t even realize KK was outside CA, and soo grateful it is! Food took maybe 45 minutes to come out, so I almost became hangry — when the food came out I could understand why it took so long… just wish it didn’t haha.

I have heard good things about this place before and when I saw the owner on Chopped I decided I had to give it a try. I went with a friend who had also never been and we both really enjoyed everything. My visit was for lunch. I would describe this place as definitely being gourmet but with a laid back New Orleans vibe. The interior is clean and slightly upscale with white table cloths. They do have seating inside and outside which is great for people like me who like to eat outside. For this visit I ate inside because it was hot outside. The service was spot on and we received and a roasted red pepper soup amuse bouche which I thought had an unusual texture but really good flavor. My friend was not a fan. My friend and I both ordered the smoked wagyu beef brisket with ‘garlicky’ parmesan fries. I also ordered a Stone IPA beer, which is one of my favorite beers, and I was impressed to see it available because I hardly ever see it available. My friend ordered a mimosa and she really seemed to enjoy it. Overall the wagyu brisket was very tinder and very tasty. Everything was amazingly flavorful and the fries were some of the best I have ever had. This place is not cheap but overall it is with it, I will definitely be back!

I can’t believe I haven’t taken the time to update my review! Re-reading my first review, I realize I gave a very backhanded quasi-positive review. I could slap myself. While my first visit to Boucherie was apparently not out-of-this-world-amazing, this restaurant has become a staple go-to lunch spot(I would do dinners more often but it’s often difficult to get a last minute table). I love all of their po-boys and their entrees are consistently good. Service is on point. I still stand by my assessment that this is the best bang for your buck restaurant. Most importantly, they hands down have the best fries in town. I often debate if I should place two orders so I can have my own and not share(selfish characteristic of being the youngest child). I would happily eat the fries as my main course. Yes, they’re THAT good.
