Oh Dat Dog, Dat Dang Diggity Dog! It bit me, as sure as Jazz plays on the streets in NOLA. There I was, minding my own business, swaying along to the brass band tunes as they played across the street, and the dog snuck up on me and bit me right in the nose! I had to chase it — and chase it I did, right to the downstairs bar for a seat, a cold local beer, a fun bartender, and a dog. And ooh, what a dog! Turns out mine wasn’t really a dog after all. It was an alligator! That’s right folks, I had an alligator dog in NOLA, and you can too — even late at night, when the jazz brass bands play with all their might. And this Yankee, well, he had a smile on his face the whole time. Oh, and if your dog is really a veggie, that’s okay — they have those too! Try the chipotle dog — I hear it’s got a good bite. Cheers!

Philly girl meets gator. The rest is history. If you are feeling adventurous, or know you already like alligator, go for the alligator sausage. I went for my alligator sausage plain. It was so fabulous it didn’t need anything else on it. It was tender and delightful. I was there for a late night bite so the experience is a bit of a blur otherwise, however I was so enamored by my gator dog that nothing else really matters, at least to me.

Whoa this place is basically like hot dog on crack. You basically choose the type of meat you want as your hot dog(I got the duck sausage which was great!) and then you choose as many topping as you want to create this ultimate hotdog. Warning: Don’t go tooooooo crazy with the toppings. There are so many delicious topping options(insert: crawfish etouufee anyone?!) that it’s so easy to go a little nuts on them. I would say after about the ¾ one, you won’t be able to taste each of the toppings and you might even feel a little sick afterwards. So choose wisely and enjoy!

A very popular place for the late night crowd. We ended up here after a night out and an afternoon of art galleries. The food was good and the beers were cold. The staff was friendly enough. It’s probably a place everyone should visit once while in New Orleans.

The place wasn’t packed but there was a regular flow of patrons… I got a seat on the bar in the open«courtyard». In the weather, it was a beautiful setting. I am unable to name the two glasses of beer that I enjoyed, but one of them was distinctly sweet and very light on the palate. second one was a dark beer, flavorful and tangy. I ordered the crawfish sausage hot dog and their standard fries… Great combination of mustard sauce, onions and tomatoes on the hot dog, found the fries a little soft for my liking but overall they were better than the usual fare you find at stock places. I felt they were a bit overpriced considering the fact that the rest of the menu was actually priced very well… Thoroughly enjoyed an easy afternoon, look forward to another trip before I head back home to the land of road side hot dogs aka NYC. :-) will miss dat dog for sure…

Came here on a Sunday at 1pm so it was busy. Order took about 10 minutess so its not as fast as usual fast food. The extra few minutes are worth the wait. The food is excellent. The cheddar bacon & ranch is a meal in itself. I had the smoked bratwurst & it’s easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely come back, of course it’s 2250 miles from home. There’ll be many more trips to New Orleans and this will be a regular stop.

While strolling around Magazine Street and wanting an inexpensive dinner, Dat Dog made an appearance into my sister and I’s lives. Something like that. Dat Dog is a bit further down Magazine than I was expecting since we had parked closer to the downtown side(sorry I don’t know my neighborhoods well) situated next to Buffalo Exchange. This location has a nice patio outside(it was pouring rain when I went) and a pretty spacious inside. After entering, walk past the long bar on your left all the way to the back where the cash register is to order. I was torn between the alligator, turducken, kielbasa, and duck, but decided on the alligator. I asked the employee taking my order to suggest toppings(avoiding shrimp and crawfish since I’m allergic). My dog came out dressed up in sauerkraut, dill relish, and creole mustard(tangier due to more mustard seeds). The combination was tangy, slightly spicy, smokey, and just darn good. My sister ordered the Guinness dog with chili, cheese, mustard, and onions. I’m not a huge fan of chili cheese dogs, and it was certainly good, but not something I would personally order. I was trying to get her to order the crawfish sausage with Crawfish étouffée and Andouille sauce, but no such luck. If I weren’t allergic, I probably would have ordered that. Overall, fun atmosphere, good dogs, and a unique selection make this a great place for an informal budget-friendly eat that’s big on flavor.

Here with my family. We got a bunch of Dat Dogs. We went Dat crazy!!! The cheddar bacon ranch fries were unbelievable. I thought the étouffée dog was the best until I had the Dat Chic and Dat Burger. Phenomenal!!! Then we had the Duck Special… even better!!! Crazy good! Smokey and sweet and full of flavor. I’m about to try the gator dog if my nephew will let me have a bite :) FYI… have a Dat Beer. Hoppy IPA. Very, very good.

This place is amazing. If they ever start franchising these things out I’ll be at the black market Doctor selling an organ to find it. The interior looks like New Orleans threw up all over which is a compliment. Their staff is always polite and quirky. The dogs are great, I always get the chef special because I like all the ingredients and they never steer me wrong. (Tried their new dat burger today… go in for a dog is all I’m going to say)

Time to eat my words. Ignore my previous quibbles about the not-so-great veggie dogs here, for Dat Dog is now serving really delicious vegan sausages(that I believe are Field Roast) for vegetarians! They have two kinds, but I recommend the spicy chipotle(it’s not that spicy, just incredibly delicious). One other thing: get that doggie loaded up… toppings are gratis! I was a bit conservative yesterday, but next time I’m going to town on that dog. This is pretty thrilling news, I must say, because sometimes you’re ready to eat lunch after the dreaded 3pm closing time that’s common in this city(this was the case yesterday). And sometimes, you just want to sit on an enormous patio with an outdoor bar and sip some Prosecco on a warm fall afternoon. You can do all of this at Dat Dog. Also tipping my hat to the really friendly staff. Do they take happy pills? They are just the best. One slightly weird thing: they had a cocktail list up at the bar(order drinks separately from food) but the bartender couldn’t make any of them! He was extremely nice(like the rest of the good folks at Dat Dog), and I saw they had bubbly, so all was forgiven, but… in a cocktail-focused city, this kind of is a bummer. I mean: Fall. Cocktails. Who can resist? I’ll be back for more and hopefully this time they can keep their promise of a Pear Collins.

Oh, Dat Dog. Back when I was low carbing, you were one of the few places that I went to on a regular basis. I don’t do hot dogs, but the crawfish sausage had the perfect flavor, which was magnified when adding etoufee, cheese, and sour cream. Yesterday I ordered one of their sausages with the bun, and it was oh so delicous-the bun was slightly sweet but not too sweet, and it was big enough to gather all of the toppings dumped on top. Absolutely delicious. Dat Dog also makes a seriously awesome and underrated bloody mary. They make house infused BACON vodka; ask for a bloody mary with this and you’ll be in heaven. The bartender yesterday was awesome enough to give me a little side cup of bacon to add. You really can never have enough bacon. This Magazine Street location seems cleaner and more up to date than their location on Freret Street which is a definite plus. They have a nice outdoor seating area and a full bar inside and outside. Love supporting local businesses like this!

4 girls + 4 hot dogs + fries = destroyed. Cali girls trying gator dogs, who would’ve thought? It was amazingly delicious. The white trash fries were to die for. The hot dog buns were on point! I can’t wait to go back to Nola just to have the amazing food. Great experience, great food, happy traveler!

Really, Dat Dog! This is a great place if you are looking for a special hot dog experience. Whether you want a classic dog or an unique dog(Think alligator), Dat Dog got it. This place allows you to fully customize your dog with virtually unlimited toppings, but if you are indecisive, there’s the«chef’s choice» option and specialty topping combos too. Each order is a little under $ 8 max. Sure, it may be pricey for a hot dog but I can ensure you it’s worth every cents! I was dubious about my specialty alligator dog, but after tasting the strange yet intriguing union of tastes from so many toppings, I became a believer. NOLA cuisine isn’t all about Cajun seafood; this is another must-try food you must get on your culinary journey here!

This place is so great! Probably 2nd to 3rd best food place I’ve tried in NOLA. The food impressed me and my friend so much that we went back for a second time before our trip was over. First time around, I got the crawfish dog and shared Anna’s WTF fries. Both were so good, and crawfish dog is a must try. Be adventurous and get it even if you have doubts! Fries were good even if you get them plain, crunchy outside, soft inside. Second time around, i wanted to try the alligator dog, but didn’t know what kind of toppings would go well with it, so I went with the«chef’s choice» where they choice the toppings and I was at their mercy. It was hands down, the best decision ever made. The dog was so delicious and I gobbled up my dog super quick!

Etoufee fries? YES! Drunk or not, these fries are BOMB! I crave this from time to time. Try their dogs or their fries or both! You can’t go wrong. Plus, they have a bar and a super colorful interior. :)

A trip to New Orleans just doesn’t feel complete without a visit to Dat Dog. The funky, colorful atmosphere instantly puts you at ease and the staff is always friendly. My personal favorite is the Alligator sausage– a unique and tasty Variation from your everyday sausage. Crawfish étouffée sauce, onions, tomatoes, and mustard are my usual toppings of choice for this delicious meal, but honestly I would eat about anything out of their buns. I’m not a huge bread fan, but It’s the bread more than anything that keeps me coming back time and again…

I’ve been here many times and it was always been very satisfying. It can get very busy on the weekends, but it’s the perfect place for a nice Summer dinner sitting on the balcony area with a beer. The most recent time that I went I got the duck sausage and had it dressed the Chef’s Special, blackberry ham, bbq sauce, bacon, and I got grilled onions instead of the mustard. It was meaty, a little gamy, smokey and amazing. The duck flavor wasn’t too pronounced so for people who are afraid of duck it’ll be a nice baby step into a new gamier meat. As always I got the cheddar, bacon, and ranch fries which never seem to disappoint.

I came here as a recommendation from a local friend. He was telling me about the different varieties of sausages they have and I instantly got excited looking at the pictures people have been posting. I ordered the Alligator sausage with the chef special and it was delicious. It was perfectly grilled, crunchy and the toppings were superb. My friends ordered the brat and it was average. It didn’t go well with the grainy mustard they put on. Overall, the food here is good and their white trash fries were delicious but 8 dollars for a hot dog is a little steep. It’s only worth it if you go for their more exotic sausages like the alligator or duck.

Great hot dogs with a good variety of sausages and toppings. We had the crayfish dog and the seadog(cod), both delicious. It has nice outdoors sitting where you can enjoy your meal and a beer while watching some football.
