Whilst I could attempt to surgically separate my previous account of Shortail’s that is all but fused like a Siamese twin to my 12 Mile Limit review, I will just let you know how much I love Shortail’s separately of 12 Mile here. If you were to ask me where the secret place is to enjoy a damn good brunch OR dinner(during a rousing game of Trivia) on a dime without throwing on your Sunday best, and then rolling right into day drinking like a pro… it would be Shortail’s. Consistently, simply amazing to me. You’re not pondering over what the au jus is made out of, or inquiring about calorie counts, or wondering what garden the greens came from. It’s just damn good, and worth every penny you pay for such delicious food. For Brunch, I almost always go with a BYOB(Biscuit), and immensely enjoy smothering it with slaw, bacon, and avocado, and usually a 4th oh yeah throw that on their too ingredient. The tomato/cucumber is literally a plate of sliced cucumber and tomato that’ll make you feel kinda like a smart grownup eating your morning/afternoon veggies. For Trivia Nights on Thursdays, I usually roll with the brisket sliders with slaw, which I usually end up sharing since they’re a good size. I’ve enjoyed the loaded tots that are basically a hodge podge of meat and veggies(look away vegetarians) that have you wondering, «what did I just put in my mouth?/was that meat or a brussel sprout?» but still enjoying the amalgamation of flavors. You can see a running theme with the slaw. It’s basically good on everything and anything. Cabbage with a light coating and a hint of spice, still giving it a crunchy texture. Writing a Unilocal review about a place that I hope stays on the DL is counter-intuitive, but if something’s good, the people should know! Just make sure I got dibs on a table for Trivia Nights for telling you this goodness. ;)

As many others have already mentioned, Shortall’s is the pop-up that serves food out of 12 Mile Limit. I am no expert, but I can say that this is the best bruch I have ever had in a bar. When a couple of Portland Unilocalers were in town for a visit, some friends organized a brunch in their honor. What better way to showcase Nola to some PDX folks than brunch in a dive bar? If that sounds a little funky to you, I felt the same way. Once I got over my penchant for fanciness and embraced the idea, I had one damn good brunch. The way brunch works is you get a menu, mark down your order and turn it in to the bartender. I chose the pulled pork benedict with scrambled eggs and a side of hash browns. The hash browns are similar to McDonald’s rectangular variety and tasted about the same. What made the brunch great was the pulled pork paired with scrambled eggs. For some reason those two things went very well together, but the pork was the star. I will definitely be back just to try some of their regular BBQ in the future. If you are looking for a unique brunch experience, you have to try Shortall’s.

This is the BBQ that is served out of 12 mile limit. Always been a fan of 12 mile even though that place has been taken over by hipsters recently. But the one thing I like is the BBQ. I am pretty much a total stuck up nit picky snob when it comes to BBQ. This place has about the only edible BBQ I tried so far in the whole NOLA metro area. Their BBQ chicken is okay but I am not all about the chicken. My favorite BBQ item is pulled pork. Shortall’s does a good job of cooking pulled pork. It has always been consistently juicy, and flavorful. Granted this is certainly not the best pulled pork I ever had in my life but its still pretty decent. The sides were alright, I really liked the crispy tater tots. The best side was the Mac and cheese with the green onions. I know it costs a dollar extra but its worth it. I tried the baked beans, there okay but not mind blowing. The price is pretty decent on these items. For $ 10 you get you choice of one meat, and 2 sides. Not a bad deal if you ask me. In short not a bad place for BBQ if you are in the Mid City area.

I don’t mean to be harsh but I want to be honest. If three stars is average, the actual food is below average. It’s not bad, it’s just nothing to brag about. The bar is unique, cool little place and the staff was professional and polite, but it’s a bar foremost with the addition of food from what I read. The portions of meat are small and the sides are large. Brisket was salty. Baked beans were refried bean consistency with shredded pork and not much of a BBQ flavor and I believe they served Kraft Mac n cheese sprinkled with green onions. For the price voodoo BBQ or Zea’s has better meat. I would give them 4stars. I support local businesses but I drove out of my way for some good unique BBQ and this was a disappointment. I wish them the best and hope this review is constructive.

This is such an awesome addition to an already kick-ass bar. Shortall’s has some of the best BBQ in the city, numerous delicious weekend brunch options, free food on Mondays, and some yummy tater tots to munch on as you spend your time at 12 Mile Limit. It was the brunch food that first sent me to this bar that I have grown to love so much. The BYOB(build your own biscuit or burrito) option is a sweet deal for a great hangover breakfast. Honestly, I am a fan of all of their food. Best deal on the menu currently: Two BBQ(I always go with pork) sliders for $ 6. Calling these sandwiches«sliders» is a joke. I can only finish one of these and have the other for the next day’s lunch. Do yourself a favor and check out the awesome food in this cool, laid-back bar.

The BBQ brisket here isn’t my preferred Texas style and is more in line with what you would find in Memphis(or Corkey’s locally) and is more akin to pot roast the way it is served. The brisket is tender and moist but it just doesn’t give me the BBQ zing I love like the Joint does. This style of BBQ brisket probably is better on a sandwich than on its own. I’m also not a fan of the fact they give you BBQ sauce in a tiny little shot cup instead of letting you apply your desired amount from a dispenser of some sort(I always get a bit grumpy when sauce is dispensed like its gold). The sides here are really good with the beans, fried brussel sprouts, cole slaw, tater tots and mac ‘n cheese all being good choices. There aren’t a lot of BBQ options in this immediate area with the only other one that comes to mind being Boo Koo BBQ at nearby Finn McCool’s. I think Boo Koo’s brisket is better than the brisket here and the Joint smokes them both but this food is certainly worthy of eating if you’re in the area.

I had one bite of a friends brisket and beans. AMAZING! The meat fell of the bone in appropriate fashion. Love love love. The cook who brought us our food also checked to make sure it was delicious. I would have kissed him if he had BBQ sauce on his lips :)

I had originally reviewed 12 Mile Limit not realizing that the food place was separate from the bar. This does not change my opinion of this place that I have so much love for. Their brunch is always yummy and I leave feeling happy. Their biscuits is an amazing base to any sort of goodness that you would want. I recently came for dinner and feel in love with their loaded tater tots/mac and cheese. It starts with a base of mac and cheese, then a layer of tater tots, and since it was the veggie version, it had EVERY single vegetable they had in the kitchen on the plate. This included roasted brussel sprouts, asparagus, and a few other things too. One side was covered with coleslaw that was ok. I’m not a huge fan of coleslaw, so it gets an ok rating from me.

I’ve previously written a review of Twelve Mile Limit singing the praises of Chris Shortall and his barbecue. I’ll ave you the trouble of searching and just copy it below. Every word still stands. Shortall does some of the best bbq I’ve ever had. Let me start by saying that I love barbecue. Real barbecue. We’re talking slow, indirect heat applied over hours. I also love grilling, which is done over direct heat and commonly mistaken for barbecue. But you’re not here for a lesson in cooking, you’re here to learn about Twelve Mile Limit. Until Friday evening I had never even heard of Twelve Mile. While at an event at Celebration Distillation(be sure to check them out) my lady friend and I met some new people, made friends, and got invited to dinner at what was claimed to be the«best barbecue in New Orleans.» Intrigued and skeptical, I got the address and we drove down. GPS took us to a somewhat sketchy looking neighborhood and a building with almost no signage. To make things even weirder, we had to be buzzed in. But one I was inside I was stunned. If this was a dive bar it’s the nicest dive bar I’ve even been in. There’s a pool table, nice tables and chairs, a sofa and a great jukebox. The drinks are great and are served in actual glasses. My lady and I split two orders of sliders topped with slaw, one of them beef brisket and one pork. I regret calling them sliders because they are as big as normal sandwiches… SWEETBUTTEREDBUDDHA, this just might be the very best barbecue I’ve ever had. It was served with sauce on the side and it doesn’t need it. The pork and brisket were super tender and slow smoked with only salt and pepper allowing the actual flavors to come out and have a giant party on my tongue. The chef came out and talked to us for a while. He revealed that he made the slaw himself. Everything we had that night was stellar. The sliders were simple yet divine and their flavors. Run, don’t walk, to Twelve Mile Limit and have a slider.

OK. I’d like to say super yum! This is the name of the business where we’ve been enjoying brunch(inside of 12 Mile Limit) for months. Delicious biscuits, amazing french toast, etc and so forth. Tonight I actually tried their BBQ. OMG. They have veggie«sliders.» So sliders is a bit inaccurate for a thoroughly reasonable price, you get 2 burger size sammiches. The veggie patty is comprised of black beans and beets and sweet potato and deliciousness. Seriously good. By skimming off of other’s plates, I also sampled the mac n cheese and the tots AND the spinach & artichoke dip. All were really good. Seriously, 12 Mile Limit has yummy cocktails but the food makes it a must.
