Great food especially the hot dogs. Really. Based on the fabulous original on east 29. Problem — ordering not allowed at bar and on weekends feels woefully understaffed. Staff is arrogant and just so rude. I’ve seen it over and over. And it’s just too slow compared to the other eateries in this food hall.

You couldn’t pay these bartenders for a smile or a conversation. Liven up dudes, your customers are not your enemy. Good beer.

The two stars are not for the hot dogs. It’s for the terrible customer service. I’m a foodie. I love to check places out and enjoy their food and ambiance. But what also matters to me is good customer service or at least kind of nice customer service. It really makes a difference to you enjoying your food! Me and my best friend came to gotham west market for the first time excited to try the foods there. Unfortunately, we ended up choosing cannibal to eat at. Should have gone to that spanish tapas place! If I did, I would have had a totally different and great experiece. I’m sure! The hot dogs were good. But, customer service. terrible! Both the guys behind the bar looked so annoyed to be there and like they did not want to be working. I get it. mayb u had a bad .long.day. As if the already cold and rude service was not enough, one guy behind the bar was talking about me and my friend right in front of us. for me and my bestie taking photos together and photos of the hot dogs. Btw…í am an instagrammer. So that’s what the photo was for. I get it. maybe it annoys people. but we were not being obnoxious about it. And if they didn’t know… its the time of social media these days. This is what people do. Everyone does it. And í took the photos to promote them on my instagram. possibly…which will now not be happening. Thanks for the terrible experience cannibal. I still tipped you 20% for your bad service… becuz í like to think mayb you jus happened to have a bad day. I will not be returning though. And will also be warning others about your service.

Part of the little eateries inside of Gotham Market you can find The Cannibal. You can grab a beer or cocktail from the sidewalk bar, or sit inside and dine in many dishes such as Thai BBQ wings, ribs, or Cuban sandwiches. You can see the great young chefs whip up your food as the hustle and bustle of the Gotham Market stomps behind you. I suggest the pretzel, Cuban sandwich, and frozen drink(forgot the name: P) the Thai wings are good and plentiful.

Cool location and atmosphere. Loved that you knew what you were eating was fresh because it’s right in the butcher shop. Had the bartender choose my beer and he picked Grimm Afterimage. One of the best IPAs I’ve ever had. For lunch we had some local cheeses, the root beer and cornbread sausage, and the cannibal dogs. Filled with flavors we’ve never experienced and everything cooked to perfection. The service and even the other customers were very friendly and hospitable. We appreciated when the bartender gave us some local recommendations for dinner since we’re just visiting the city. Would go out of my way to eat here again, especially with the extensive beer options.

Some really delicious stuff for the carnivores out there. Had the pig face Cuban and the chicken wings. Sampled the ribs too. All of it was awesome. Someone at the table even remarked that they were the best wings he has ever had, hands down. Plus, Gotham market is a cool location — let’s you go with friends, eat at different places if you prefer, all get ample hills ice cream, and not have to worry about splitting the bill. Plus, they supply free water :)

Sweaty, gooey pretzel. Kale salad wasn’t even chopped. The leaves were the size of my sock. Sandy, grainy dressing… unwashed greens? Pass. Should have ordered meat? So much for trying a new place.

Best cocktails in Gotham market…(see what I did there?) No, but the cocktails are pretty good and if it’s a nice day you can sit at the outside bar and have a drink. Bartenders are friendly and I like the open feel of being in Gotham market. I was expecting more from the hot dogs, something more like Doghouse in Astoria, but didn’t live up to the expectation. I did like the names of the dogs though! I’d probably stop by for a drink again, might skip the food though.

Wow… wow, everything we choose here was fantastic! Mos def have to visit the OG now. We started with some brussel sprouts(to justify our onslaught of meat), which were done well with bits of pork. Then we got the bacon platter(must try) and loved every piece. I like the rawer tasting bacon while the ladies with me enjoyed the crispier pieces. Next was the Pig Head Cuban, very filling and super tasty, the Gruyère and pickles really pulled it together. Finally we shared the Voice of Mikey and Cannibal dogs, both were delicious and I wish I could have had them all to myself… esp the Cannibal. We visited on a Friday night right after work and since it was in the Gotham West Market we found a seat almost immediately.

One of the least distinguished offerings in the Gotham West market, I don’t think the Cannibal has much of an appeal if you don’t live in the building. If you do, you’ll appreciate the large(but rather quite expensive) list of beers available by the can and the also more limited(but still quite expensive!) draft selection. Otherwise my experience has been confined to a meat board or two, along with maybe one of their small plates while waiting for a full party to make the trek over to 11th Avenue. It’s all been perfectly serviceable, but with better(and better value) options just a few steps away, it’s hard to imagine actively seeking this place out. Perhaps it’s better at the original, standalone location.

Bartender mentioned happy hour but when we got the bill it turned out happy hour prices didn’t apply to the beers I had ordered. Would have been nice of him to mention this when I was ordering. Food is ok. Sandwiches would be much improved if they kept them in the press longer.

The cocktail was good. Chicken Liver Pâté($ 11) with cocoa nibs, shallot jam — very good amount of liver mousse. It was very rich and decadent while the shallot jam cut through the richness. I didn’t really taste any cocoa nibs though. Steak Tartare($ 16) with bernaise & crumpets — The steak tartare was rather disappointing. It was mostly bernaise(if you can call it that) with a little bit of steak underneath. The so-called crumpets really didn’t add anything to the dish, and almost resembled a bagel bite. Overall, it was ok, just not that good.

I imagine emerging into the sunlight from a trade show at the Javits is not that distant from what those 33 Chilean miners felt when rescued. OK, that’s probably an egregious stretch, and insulting to miners, and Chileans, and Chilean Sea Bass everywhere. I digress. In the desolate wasteland(also egregious) immediately surrounding the Javits Center is one oasis I recommend; Gotham West Market. Within this market are various«stalls» and purveyors of edibles. A few colleagues and I bellied up to the bar at The Cannibal and were pleasantly surprised by our selection. The menu is broad enough, and the staff(of which there are 3; cook, bar tender and server) efficiently manage their kiosk and tend to their patrons with care. As importantly to note as the service is the food; which was fresh, tasty and rustically prepared. There are other options within Gotham West Mkt, but I can only attest to the quality of the meal at The Cannibal. Give it a go.

Yes. Yes. Meat done right. We ordered the pig face Cuban… pig face terrain with cheese and pickles like your standard Cuban. The bread was perfect on this sandwich crunchy and chewy without being overpowering. We also ordered the cannibal hot dogs which are essentially a marriage of a bahnmi with a chili dog. I love New York style hot dogs because they have snap, so the texture on this dog with the firm potato bun and crunchy cilantro made this a delightful treat. To me, a good percentage of flavor has to do with the way it feels when you’re eating it and both of these choices have a fun mouth feel as well as a ton of flavor. The dudes working the counter were super nice and chatty. They told us about the restaurant and how there’s a bigger one on 29. Loved this place.

Love this place. It’s so fun to sit outside at a bar. The adult slushie was great, and the house-made pretzel was amazing. I wish the menu was a bit more varied but I will def be coming here a lot!

I haven’t had the food here… but one of the worst bloody mary’s I’ve ever had. It was so unbalanced and the spices were unbelievably overbearing that… I literally had to chase it with water. Plus, it was $ 16 for one… which makes it suck even more. I liked the concept of the bar and menu but I wouldn’t go back.

Stopped in for an afternoon quickie. Ribs, wings and pretzel. All tasty. Great to share with a small group. Lots of other choices as well as The Cannibal is located in the Gotham Market, a very cool co-op eatery with about 12 different restaurants. I’ll be back soon.

UPDATE: I got food poisoning from this place. Only go here if you want to get sick and have the bubble guts. This place is horrible. I got the Pig’s Head Cuban and it was the biggest disappointment. The description on the menu said it would have a Pig’s Head terrine; there was no terrine to be found. Maybe they can fool the simpleton hipsters who frequent here by throwing around culinary terms that they themselves don’t understand, but NOT this foodie. The sandwich itself was very flavorless and left much to be desired. This was the worst ham sandwich I’ve ever had. To even call it a Cubano would be as disrespectful as the angry Puerto Rican who made the subpar sandwich. If you are a foodie or appreciate good flavorful food, stay away from this wannabe place.

Slightly different that the original freestanding restaurant off of Park. The service is still as stellar, the food is still pretty good, and the beer selection goes to the same way they have across town. My gf had the wine, I would stay away from it and go for the beer, they have a number on tap and 25x more in the fridge. We love Cannibal, and this was a nice treat that it was here at Gotham West. A little far, but you can’t blame them for that. The chicken liver was pretty good, as was the bread that came with it. It was very creamy, slightly bland compared to duck especially. They were out of their statement jerky. The beet salad was tasty, but generic. Beer of course is always delicious here and they have something for everyone.
