I am sad to report that this place is officially CLOSED — a friend just called to order a pie and the number’s been disconnected. Unfortunately, Menupages confirms the closure. Not sure if it’s permanent or temporary but thought I’d let all your hopefuls know :(

I suppose if I had a gluten allergy and this was the only means to satisfy my pizza craving, this place might have garnered a higher rating from me. So if you have the free will to eat any pizza you’d like without medical repercussions then carry on. If not then you may still like it here. I came here on a week night and ordered in person to go after a vigorous bootcamp session in the park. You’d think even with my post workout appetite this place would taste better, you know like how saltine crackers can taste delicious if you’re truly hungry and am dying to eat anything? Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. The staff were friendly enough and there was enough press clippings up on the wall to occupy the time waiting to cook. I have to say that the pizza was completely forgettable. My companion and I ordered a pizza with honey crust and one with herb crust and it totally tasted like it was just a baked cracker with toppings thrown on top. More cracker like with the honey crust. The ingredients were alright, but it just had absolutely no flavor to it. I’m not sure if it is purposely sparse in its sprinkling of toppings to be healthier or if the guys cooking up our pizza were skimping, but that was a little disappointing especially given the price point. I had to actually look up the names of the pizzas again, the novice is truly a novice and so was the guru. Kind of ironic, if both a novice and a guru can’t deliver on a specialty pizza. It’s ambitious what they’re doing, but it just really fell flat with me this time. The prices certainly don’t help out but for someone who can choose from another pizza joint and isn’t looking for a healthy or gluten free option, I would definitely go elsewhere.

This is a good but expensive local pizza place. The goat cheese pizza is my favorite. The only other downside aside from the price is that the pizza is made to order(which is usually a good thing) so it takes an extra long time to get it,

After Unilocaling multiple places in the Upper East Side on my trip to NYC, I decided to stop by here w/a friend. Pizza is good, but not great. You get a relatively small sized portion for what you pay for. They do have some unique pizzas — some with curry, vegan options, etc. Felt a little healthier than your average slice of pizza too. But nothing too special and definitely not amazing.

Dropped in for lunch with some colleagues. Took forever.(Despite the guy telling us that we could order more if we wanted since the pizzas only took 5 mins to make… bad sign.) The pizza was edible but I won’t be back. Colleagues were definitely not impressed.

After spending two hours at a DIY pottery painting place in the hood, the girl and I mustered up quite the appetite. Hey. Painting in smocks at a paper covered table is tough work. Being that my eating out habits and routines have significantly changed because of her gluten intolerance and vegetarian nature, Slice, The Perfect Food, was right around the block and perfect for us, since they, you know, offer gluten-free crust. We got to the pretty little thing of a place, a row of tables, no more than 6 to 8, brightly lit, some mirrors and other stuff that I didn’t notice, and ordered ourselves a drink and some pizza. They do have fun short little wine and beer lists. I ended up with a Prima Pils, she ended up with a local wine. Pizza came. It was of the Skilled Eggplant variety which was basically eggplant, olives, sun dried tomato pesto and cheese. I know how hard it is to come up with delicious gluten free crusts as I’ve been working on my own formula in hopes of forever eating pizza each night, and I have to say the Slice one was A-OK in my book. Unfortunately, it was way too crisp, as in, it was like one crisp piece of dough, but not dough. It’s not like the model normal delicious pizza with a very crisp burnt flavor outside and a little bit of dough-y taste on the inside. It was just crisp. Anyway, the toppings were fine and good and everything else with this place just seemed fine. If I’m in the neighborhood and we want to grab a nice meal, then this place is worth it. Is it worth trekking to? Meh.

The only reason I’m not giving this place 4 stars is the prices. The personal sized pizzas are a good size(really, big enough for two if you get a salad too). But $ 14 for a personal pizza? Though tasty(I am a fan of the thin crunchy crust pizza), fresh and healthy tasting(without being gross), I wish they were not quite so expensive. But it’s the West Village, so I get it. I am a fan of their no dairy, no soy options.(Thank you Slice, thank you so much). I will probably go back when I need a tasty pizza treat without the guilt that comes with.

Pricey, but sometimes it’s just worth it. Ordering a $ 42 pizza seems insane, but walking to the restaurant and eating in this small, casual spot is always a good experience. The salads are fairly priced, and the organic red wine is actually a bargain. Now, back to the takeout option. I’ve rationalized it in the following way: If an Amy’s brand frozen GF, rice cheese pizza with 2 servings is $ 11, then the equivalent 5 servings of this frozen pizza would be around $ 30. Factor in that the $ 42 Slice pie includes a fresh pizza with 3 or 4 custom toppings and it doesn’t seem quite so crazy.

Oy, an empty restaurant on a Friday night… not a good sign. However, I wanted pizza with a whole wheat crust, so we went for it. The empty restaurant question was answered pretty quickly as there was an almost non-stop flow of delivery guys coming and going with orders. Whatever. We started off with a bowl of lentil soup — not something I expected to see at a pizza place. It was piping hot and very hearty. We each got personal pizzas. We got the margarita pizza and a pizza with some veggies, chicken and a honey whole wheat crust. The pizzas were excellent. Quite often, whole wheat crusts are too thin and are not very chewy. These crusts were perfectly chewy and crispy and the toppings worked very well. The service was very good, maybe a bit gruff, but very effective. I am rarely in the UES, but next time I am, I will be hitting up Slice.

This place is ok. The service is really great. I have to say that the pizza is not very tasty :). I tried 3 different pizzas. The only one that I remotely liked was The Yuri. Everything else was pretty bad. The prices are also pretty expensive for the area. On another note, the staff is great and their Chili is excellent. However if you are going there for the pizza there are 1 million cheaper and better places.

As a vegan, I’ve seriously been missing a good«cheese» pizza. My(non-vegan) friends and I were excited to stumble across this place with its vegan, gluten free, and regular options. The vegan cheese pizza was the best vegan pizza I’ve had. Our waiter said that they use tapioca for the«cheese» which makes it super melty and gooey, unlike many soy cheeses. The crust is very thin, and served on a rectangular cookie sheet, so don’t expect your typical pizza in presentation, but above-average pizza in taste. I wish I lived in the city, I’d go at least once a week!

My girlfriend swears by this place. I got the Skilled Eggplant Personal Pizza($ 13) without cheese to share with my girlfriend and a vegan brownie($ 3). Slice is interesting, but I’m not really crazy about it. The pizza we got was basically a bunch of mushrooms and eggplants with sundried tomato pesto as the sauce(with olives in it?) atop what looked like a Whole Wheat Roll-Up Wrap from Damascus Bakeries( ). The way they cut the slices is really cool and I love their box design and the concept, but it really falls short. It just isn’t that good. For $ 13 I should be getting something a bit better. I don’t doubt the quality of the ingredients, but it just isn’t great. It’s okay. It’s not really pizza. It’s more like a midnight toaster creation. The brownie was very oily and dense but it tasted decent. I probably won’t be going back. I’ll give slice two things. The pizza is pretty healthy and you don’t feel guilty at all scarfing it down. It’s a cute place too and cozy.

I can’t get over how creative Slice’s pizza options are. Yes, it’s pricey. But this is something more than just«gourmet,» I feel. This is true understanding of the ingredients, thinking outside the box, and totally scrumptious. Plus, they have lots of gluten-free options. How much more«perfect» can you get? I highly recommend the Taste of India and the Miki.

Call me cheap and sweaty, but I usually opt for a slice of Famiglia’s or Papa John’s rather than a speciality pizza restaurant. Sometimes I’m a little embarrassed that I find thin crust pizza too thin and I’d rather spend a buck stuffing a slice at crackhead pizza on 41st and 9th rather than spending $ 14 on an individual pizza at say… Nizza. But we are who we are. And at heart, the cheaper and greasier the pizza, the wider I open my mouth. Well, I have a vegan in my life, so we stopped into SLICE for their vegan/gluten free friendly options. I wasn’t expecting anything spectacular but I was truly and happily surprised by their flavorful, fresh, interesting options. What I first and foremost liked about this place was the options to make vegan substitutions while still keeping regular cheese and meat on their menu for non particular eaters like myself. The next option I enjoyed was the opportunity to order just a «slice» of the pizza, rather than having to make up your mind on one pie. That being said, the«slices» of pizza are massive– and $ 5. So even if you order two like I did, you may as well be ordering your own pie. Thirdly, they cut their giant triangular slices into smaller triangles so it’s like you’re eating… fresh geometry! I first ordered a garden salad with their carrot ginger dressing. It was fabulous. I loved the spicy kick to the dressing and I licked the bowl clean. Then I tried a slice of the«skilled eggplant» and the waitress coaxed me into sampling THEBOMB –Honey whole wheat crust, spicy free-range chicken tikka masala, part-skim organic mozzarella. It was really wonderful, unusual, but something I would recommend and order again if you want to live on the pizza wild side. My friend got a personal novice pesto and was equally satisfied. The only thing I wish after eating here was that I lived closer to the UES so I could«claim» I was being a more conscious and nutritious eater by ordering these slices on a weekly basis. Look mom, I can be a vegan.. . now watch me eat this entire pesto pizza!

If you like to dab your pizza with a napkin to get all of the grease off of it before you eat it, go get a pie at Slice so you don’t have to do that. It’s pizza that tastes great and doesn’t leave you feeling like a sack of sand. It is a bit of waiting time to get your food so either call ahead or simply be prepared to wait. It’s worth it as the pizza’s very tasty. I’ve gone here with a decent group of people and we all got personal pies. The way they are sliced, it’s easy to share them with everyone at the table. So I’ve been there twice and have probably ended up trying around 7 different pizzas. My favorite one so far definitely has to be, «The Bomb.» Also, they have a pretty good beer selection there which always goes well with pizza.

Why I haven’t reviewed this place sooner is absolutely beyond me. Heavenly fabulous! It’s the only time I can eat pizza and feel 100% guilt-free. I leave there feeling full, but not«I ate sub-par pizza and it’s going to sit and rot in my stomach until tomorrow morning, leaving me ill for the remainder of the day» full. I feel«I just ate something fabulous and I think I can happily bounce along with the rest of my day! HUZZAH!» full. Suggestions: goat cheese salad with the carrot-ginger dressing, «The Novice», «The Intermediate», and«The Professional». All fabulous meals. It’s a shame it’s so close to my downtown office at NY-Presbyterian. Well, not so much a shame for me personally. More like a shame for my bank account left empty by my Slice habit. Worth it. I also earned the nickname of «Goat Cheese Girl» when I went there for lunch today with my friend /co-worker Corinne. I am proud of this nickname, thankyouveryMUCH.

I don’t really even want to write a review about this place because I didn’t leave much of an impression on me at all. Maybe it would have if it had been the first time I had experienced Daiya cheese, but it wasn’t. Honestly, the prices are too expensive, the food is unfilling, tasty yet over priced. Nice service but slow. I did feel a little awkward sitting there waiting to be helped, that should never be a feeling you get when you go out to eat somewhere. The location is annoying to get to if you don’t live in the Upper East Side, I probably wont ever experience this place again unless I get a cool vegan rich upper east side girlfriend that want’s to pay for me, unlikely.

The gluten free crust satisfies even gluten lovers! Yes! It is great to eat out and be able to order a pizza and share it with my friends without them making a funny face and thinking the taste is off. I have eaten here a few times and tried a few different pizzas. All are really tastey. The crust is really thin and sort of crackery. Therefore, it doesn’t fill you up the way a deep dish pizza does. Don’t worry about ordering too much pizza… you will eat it!

Wow, I was really impressed with Slice, The Perfect Food. I live about a block from the restaurant, and honestly, have walked by a million times without giving it a second thought. I figured that«healthy pizza» wouldn’t be something too tasty… Man, I was wrong! I was motivated to try Slice, as I have been trying to eat much more healthfully as of late, and have gotten into trying multitudes of «health food» to see whats out there that’s truly tasty. My boyfriend and I decided to order out from Slice last night. I was looking for something without meat, that would be tasty and satisfying. We decided on the Radha Pizza(honey whole wheat crust, organic hummus, kalamata olives, fresh bruschetta topping). Man, was this good. Very fresh ingredients, delicious taste, and the honey whole wheat dough was really good. I loved it, my boyfriend loved it, we are excited to try more types of pizza from Slice, The Perfect Food! The pizza’s are a bit on the pricey side, but the pie was much larger than we had predicted. Our $ 26 pie was enough for dinner with leftovers for lunch. 3 – 4 people could definitely share one pie. This is now one of my favorite order-in(and possible go to) places on the UES. I highly recommend giving it a shot, you’ll likely be impressed.

If you’re looking for original and gourmet-ish pizza… hit up Slice. Know before you go, it’s not really a sit-down-and-have-a-nice-meal place… just a typical hole-in-the-wall pizza joint, but with exceptional ‘za. Sooo many different options — vegetarian or meat lovers will find choices to their liking. Slices are hearty and pretty average priced for what you get. AND… they are more justify-able than other pizza, since it’s all organic-y and such. How they manage that, I don’t know. Don’t ask questions, just eat. Mmmm.
