This was our second bar stop in FiDi on a Saturday night-we were out just looking for appetizers and drinks in the area and exploring some of the bars. We were very happy with the drinks and service we received from AC, the bartender. Very friendly guy! My fiancé got the Gentleman’s old fashioned which he really liked and I got a chocolate stout on draught. We also ordered the traditional calamari and the portion was so generous that we ended up not eating anything else for the rest of the night! The music was also pretty great-being in our mid and late 20s they played lots of hits from our teenage years which was fun. You don’t hear those types of songs that often when you go out on a Saturday night. Overall a great experience and we will definitely stop in next time we are in town!

Had a retirement dinner and it was excellent, the staff and food was awesome, everyone who attended was very impressed and enjoyed themselves. I will definitely go back, their calamari is the best and their drinks were fabulous. I just want to thank everyone who served and organize the dinner.

Oh god where to start with this disgusting place. It smells very fishy and moldy when you walk in. I had wings one day and pasta fagioli soup the next. Wings were not crispy at all which is a negative in my book. Just kind of slimy. Pasta fagioli was watery and had so much bacon in it(???) It was hard to get a bite without it. Sorry but this dish is meant to be pasta and beans. There were about 20 pieces of pasta and about 6 beans in the whole bowl. Never offered any Parmasean cheese which I thought I would have been with this [pseudo ] Italian dish. Not impressed. Won’t be back.

Having read the mediocre reviews, I’d say my expectations were par for the course for Open Door Gastropub. It’s taken half a year for me and my boyfriend to try this place even though he lives steps away, and frankly we just weren’t impressed by the rating. Since we didn’t want to venture anywhere due to the snowstorm aftermath, we finally sat down and tried the pub next door. It’s really alright. The service was slow and my water cup tasted like someone’s drink hadn’t been properly washed out(Coke is quite identifiable). The waitress didn’t ask if we wanted drinks, and I was under the impression that we were supposed to receive a free drink with the brunch menu. In fact, I didn’t end up pursuing the complimentary drink due to other Unilocalers’ distaste for them. The food itself was decent, standard pub fare. I’m not really sure I’d come here again for eggs and home fries, but maybe one day if we’re stuck in the snow again.

Nice food, great cocktails. Very good service, one of the people in our party couldn’t stop their hiccups so one of the servers brought us over a little something that made it go away immediately. Reasonable prices. In a nice location and gets lively and bustling late in the evening. Great atmosphere. Would recommend. Would come back.

«The Open Door» is a nice place to eat, drink, relax & let loose afterwork. With it being my first time, I really enjoyed myself. The joint was live & festive with people mingling & enjoying sports on tv. Located near Water St., I loved the décor & enjoyed the service. My only negative is that is «is» a bit pricey. I’d definately go again.

A bit pricy for lunch but the food was amazing! Huge portions and everyone in our large party loved what they ordered. A few things that looked good were the sliders, lamb burger, salmon salad, and mac and cheese. I ordered a special menu item of salmon and shrimp with a white cream sauce with mashed potatoes and veggies. Everything was cooked perfectly and the salmon and shrimp were fresh and tender.

VERY average. Don’t feel a strong need to come back here. Didn’t like the Mac and cheese it lacked cheesiness and flavor. The loaded potato fries sounded good in theory but missed the mark in person. Have lived down in the fidi for years and never felt the need to go and now that I have I won’t be going back.

Now when we went, it was after work, there were many what seemed to be «regulars», so at first we couldn’t find anyone to seat us, we walked to the back and found someone. While this was a bit of a let down, they picked it up huge in terms of customer service. Food is where this place fell apart. I got the sliced steak special with fries, the fries shouldn’t have been the best part. It’s upsetting that there was a good taste to the steak, the bread was a nice choice, but the steak itself wasn’t cooked properly. I’m 24 years old, I’ve had many steaks in my day, but this is could barely chew through. The bread and toppings I’d get through, then this peices of rubber that I kept pulling out of the sandwich unless I chewed 100 times while biting. The fries were crisp, and even came in a grill basket which was a very cool touch. We also had the tuna nachos, yes, it was different and we couldn’t resist. While my girl friend wasn’t a fan, she thought the tuna was nice and good quality, as I did, but while she wasn’t a fan of the wasabi sauce, that was my favorite part. In the future we may consider returning hoping that this was just a bad night to come.

Yet another trip to NYC. This time I am staying in the Financial District, so thought I would try some places down here. I started with the beer selection. Good draft selection for a small place. The blood orange ale was tasty. Had the Angus burger and fries. Both were very good — the fries were spectacular served in a mini frying basket. Dessert? Bread pudding of course! Large portion and tasty. So why no 5 stars? Food and service were good, but the food was not knock your socks off. But, if you want a good pub menu with good food for a reasonable price(as priced go on NYC) this is your stop.

This place is fun for happy hour and watching sports games. Some of the waiters /waitresses are Irish and speak with the accent. I have ordered several meals from here, mostly takeout and all have been subpar. — bbq pork sandwich /sweet potato fries — okay… maybe a bit over cooked and the bbq sauce was bland — Caribbean wings — spicy and dry and charred. — calamari — tasted like rubber — bread pudding — tasted gummy, it should be made with Italian bread, croissants, or biscuits. Not sliced wheat bread or entermain’s pound cake. — fish n chips — okay. The bedding is so thin it sogs fast. Also they serve it with fried onions so it looks plentiful until you’ve eaten 2 fish sticks and realizes everything else is onions. — shepards pie. — bland. No salt or pepper. Even chef boyerdee has more flavor than this. — cheesecake — again tasteless. No flavor… not sweet. Very hardy not smooth… kinda think and lumpy. — Seafood bisque — awesomeness — chicken fingers– very good, breaded with crumbs, not super crusted. — pizza(smoked salmon and gruyère cheese) — crust was awesome, think crust. Clearly made in a brick oven or on a stone /ceramic base. But the combination of salmon and cheese made for a very salty combination. The food taste frozen and heated up. It has a dry taste with no flavor. Today I dined in and had the lycée fig martini and that was delicious! — corn chowder — spectacular — crab cakes taste frozen and like pollack with no crab. They are also inexpensive. I should have known! All in all if you are here for social reasons, you may enjoy yourself. The patrons /ppl have always been pleasant. But the bartenders and waiters, male n female are EXTREMELY bias when it comes to patrons and new comers. They cater to patrons and every time I sat in to eat, I felt dismissed or not valued. I would make requests and it would go unanswered. Ppl a little history lesson. There are black Irish ppl. There last names typically are ‘Moore’ and ‘Geddis’. So I’m not sure why the rude or dismissive treatment. This is Cheers with sup par dishes. And if they don’t know you be name, you’ll have to walk up to the bar to request your check. You’ll have to flag ppl down for refills /request. Nobody has time for this. Also the receipt states to send a text to 96362 for a chance to win a $ 100 gift certificate but the promotion doesn’t even work.

What a gem! My office had an office party the week prior and they loved it so much they decided to have a going away dinner the week after. I wasn’t able to attend the first event but I really loved the second visit with the same group. They continued to rave about the God, drinks and ambiance second time around. We ordered beers, lychee martinis and some other mixed cocktail drinks. All very tasty. We had the buffalo wings for appetizers and the loaded truffle fries. The menu was very extensive and full of so many choices. Entire table of 4 ordered shepherds pie. It was very tasty. I had them add cheddar cheese on top(not on menu). We also saw that they had stand up comedy night in the open area of the restaurant. We remained at our table but could still here the jokes. Waitress was attentive. Seemed like a walk to find it. But it’s def close to try if you choose to take the train. Driving there and parking. Is out of the question. they have daily specials. We can’t wait to go back and try other items on the menu.

There’s a good number of bars to choose from in fidi, many of them aren’t really worth the time. So it’s always good to find a cool place, with a good alcohol selection(especially the rum) and decent food. Open Door is basic bar in a lot of ways, but has just enough class to make it a cool after work spot. They’ve got a pretty sick whiskey shelf and they carried my Ron Zacapa rum, which is always a plus given that most bars are STILL only carrying Captain Morgan and Bacardi like this is 1985… They also have pretty good happy hour prices, making it a great after work option. My group grabbed a table in the back and drank for the duration of happy hour and into the evening. I eventually grabbed an order of the pulled pork sliders with sweet potato fries. The sliders were ok… They definitely hit the spot, but didn’t do much in the way of flavor in my opinion. There was also way too much pork on the slider, creating more of a mess than anything. Sweet potato fries were crack, as always. This a pretty cool place for happy hour and small bites I’d say. Nice bar, good drink selection and good prices.

The Financial District in this great city never ceases to underwhelm me. And with offerings like the Open Door Gastropub, the«mehs» just keep on coming… To give credit where it’s due, the happy hour here isn’t too bad at all. $ 5 for select drafts, and some decent ones at that!!! Well well well FiDi, maybe you’re not so bad after all… Alas, I speak too soon… My latest experience here had myself and my fellow diners waiting an interminable length of time for a table. This is not necessarily due to the fault of the establishment, but rather that of the typical FiDi clientele you can expect to find in these parts(my friend stood by a table who had paid their bill 30 minutes prior, but remained seated nevertheless, and gave them the death stare). Truthfully, this joint actually has«disclaimers» on the tables saying that«to avoid disappointment, call in advanced to reserve tables.» Of course, this advice would be more useful the second time around(if one would even chance a second time at this joint). Well at least the food was well worth the 40 minute wait right??? Made through the courtesy of the fine clientele who call FiDi their stomping grounds… as well as the establishment for not putting their foot down on such patrons… But we were seated, and service was swift to take the order: two friends got burgers, another got the mushroom risotto, and I opted for a classy combo of onion rings and chicken fingers off of the appetizer section. While I can’t speak to the burgers or the risotto(I got okays from the former, and a «pretty good» for the latter). What I can speak to is the food I ordered, and as I have previously mentioned in the first paragraph, the Open Door Gastropub’s offerings are just another big«meh.» The chicken fingers were moist, but not too crispy, and not too tasty. They were served with two dipping sauces, an overly sweet BBQ sauce straight out of the bottle… and a honey mustard dip that’s more mustard than honey(some like it that way, but I like a nice 50⁄50 split). All in all, serviceable to the most minuscule degree. The onion rings however were a travesty. Relatively cheap and plentiful, but that’s as far as the list of pros goes. These onion rings came as big as doughnuts(maybe 2.5 to 3 inches if measured from end to end). Onion rings typically have a light crispy coating, and these were nothing of that sort. If they tried to experiment with what happens if you coated onion rings with pancake batter instead of a homemade batter made of some flour and a fizzy liquid or acid(beer, club soda, or white vinegar and water)… then they succeeded in creating these monstrosities. And though service was quick to take our orders, they were nowhere to be seen thereafter. I desperately needed water midway through the order of those dry excuses for onion rings, and not a waitress to be found. Hell, I had to suck on the ice cubes in my gin and tonic to quench my thirst(the worst part is that we hadn’t even been served an initial glass of water. Food service 101… am I right?!). So, while there are some pitfalls to this joint(the onion rings!!), I am not without reason. There are deficiencies to go with some saving graces to this joint, and the happy hour and cozy atmosphere/lighting lend themselves to effectively cancel out its shortcomings. And with that, this place gets a very«meh» score, as seen above.

Love the christmas décor in this restaurant! Other than that, nothing to really rave about, they are opened late so good place for late night, and pretty decent happy hour where you get 2 for 1 wines or certain martini drinks. Ordered their angus beef burger. pretty dry, wouldn’t recommend it. I got it with the salad instead of the fries, probably a mistake, I asked for a vinaigrette dressing and got balsamic vinaigrette to use? uh… doesn’t really make sense, so I had a salad with no dressing. The fries were actually good to eat too, definitely get the fries if you aren’t sure. Service was good for the most part, it was pretty dead when I came here so the waitress was talking to some friends some of the time and had to get flagged down but was very helpful otherwise.
