What a juicy burger! My Umami burger was flavorful and cooked to perfection compared to typical burger joints. The burger had firmness moisture and seasoned just right. The bun was soft and overall was the perfect size to satisfy my hunger. The fries were very small and didn’t off much potato substance. There is a decent variety on the menu, making a good amount of options to choose from. What’s up with the tip line on the receipt though?! I’m already paying a premium for the burger! The staff needs a tip to take my take my order. Ummm no!

Yes, I like Umami Burger, but $ 20 for a burger and fries is a bit much for lunch. You can get a Shake Shack burger and fries for just over half of that, although I will say the Shake Shack burger is a little smaller. The taste and texture of the burgers has always been phenomenal, and it’s definitely a good, satisfying meal. I’m just not the biggest fan of the value, because you can get a great burger with fries at a majority of sit-down restaurant for about $ 15, with table service. Also, as Jon W. noted, their Cool Haus products are all pre-packaged and very expensive, so I would recommend going next to Little Muenster for ice cream, which serves Ice & Vice ice cream. I’ve tried the Umami burger(parmesan, mushrooms, tomatoes, caramelized onions) and the throwback burger(2 patties, white cheddar, soy pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard), and I have to say I prefer the throwback burger, hands down. I enjoy the richness of the Umami burger and the mushrooms that come with it, but I loved the simplicity and taste of the throwback burger. The crunch of the pickles and the fact that there are two(smaller) patties in the burger made it a better eating experience for me. Hoho, yeah. I’ve been here twice, and I still have never been able to put my finger on how fast the service is. I’d probably be prepared to wait 10 minutes for a freshly prepared burger and fries, but both times I’ve been, it’s been probably closer to 15 – 20 minutes. Make sure to factor that into your lunch waiting time. I’ve pretty much only gone during off-peak hours, so I can only imagine how long it would take with long lines and crowds. I don’t really think the waiting time is sustainable for people who are looking for a quick lunch. Then again, I’d guess that most people who are looking for a quick lunch aren’t looking for a large burger and fries. In the realm of Hudson Eats, I probably wouldn’t recommend it for lunch at work, as you might fall into a coma after eating, but for dinner time, when the lines have died down, I’d say it’s a decent option. In the realm of over-the-counter burgers, I would definitely try the burgers at Umami if you haven’t before, as they are delicious, but I would go for Bareburger or Shake Shack for a better value.

Umamiliscious! My rating is perfect, it is just fitting since I have never enjoyed a burger as I have enjoyed my Umami burger. My patty was grilled to perfection. The contents of my burger are ridiculously good. Perfect combination. The bread bun has its signature stamp(U) and toasted for you. The serving size is big but I was able to finish it in no time. It was very satisfying and I had this heavenly after taste. The fries were thinly sliced which has no chance of getting choke into it. The sauces selection are incredibly awesome. They serve beer which perfectly match the burger. My new favorite burger joint . It’s service was quick. Even though the cashier said roughly 10 minutes wait, my guest pager lighted up shorter than that. Dining location is in a food court style. I find the price a little bit higher comparably to other burger joints that has its own place though.

The manly burger is very manly. I love it. Im straight. With a side of sweet potato fries and lots of umami ketchup. They mix the ketchup with truffle oil(as im told) and it brings me to heaven with every dip and bite. If you’re feeing fancy, i recommend the sunnyside burger that comes with an egg on top, and of you’re feeing fishy, they have an Ahi tuna burger. Yummy yummy in my tummy.

I love the truffle fries! Maybe they are overhyped, but sometimes you just want more than plain salty fries. They are more interesting than normal cheese fries, so basically the fry you’ve been searching for. I will admit I felt very guilty and lethargic after eating the whole thing by myself, so share it with someone! My one suggestion is that they add more vegetarian burger options!

My burger was juicy and appetizing. The bacon maple fries were good but after awhile the flavor became overwhelming. I also liked the sauces provided. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It definitely satisfied my craving.

My concern with Umami Burger has less to do with the food than the service. Today, I went downstairs(the restaurant is in my office complex) to order a burger and fries to go. At lunchtime, on a busy day, there was one order taker. One. It took 10 minutes to place my order, and another 10 of waiting for the food to be prepared and delivered — a total of 20 minutes. Far too slow, and especially slow when you compare Umami to its competitors in the Hudson Eats Hall: Dos Toros and Chopt have you in and out in minutes. Granted, they serve different products but the Umami wait time is just ridiculous, so why wait that long? As far as the food is concerned: it’s good. I had the Manly burger. Pretty good, and the fries were very good. I didn’t LOVE it, but overall it was good, but not worth the wait. Which is why I only visit Umami when two things happen at once: I’m seriously craving a burger, and it’s raining outside.

The food wasn’t as good as I thought it would be, especially for the price. Maple Bacon Fries– Maple glazed sweet potato fries with bits of bacon. These were good at first, but they got tiring quick. The flavor was too overwhelming.($ 6) Umami Burger– This burger had an odd taste, similar to tangy soy sauce. Although the texture was great, I did not enjoy the flavor at all.($ 11.50) K-BBQ Burger– Wow! It was the best part of my meal. It was super flavorful and delicious, not overwhelming like the others. The quality and texture were superb. I would definitely go back just for this burger.($ 13) I like that they offer a variety of dipping sauces(Umami Ketchup, Garlic Aioli, Jalapeño Ranch, and El Diablo). The Garlic Aioli was my favorite, I couldn’t stop using it!

Came here with great expectations. The truffle fries are super delicious. They are thin, crunchy and the cheese tastes great. The veggie burger has some guac on it(supposedly) and cotija cheese. It is average I will say. Better than a veggie burger at Friday’s or Burger King, but not outstanding. I thought the prices were pretty high.

Lots of seating, food court style, a bit salty and defiantly umami. Don’t over truffle. Wish we had the dumplings from Norther Tiger. Next time.

disclaimer: I ordered the black bean veggie burger. I know the veggie burger isn’t Umami’s specialty so take this review with a grain of salt. The veggie burger was interesting, the patty held together well and was topped with carrots and feta cheese. The bun was great, nicely toasted and fluffy. The burger as a whole was a little on the dry side for me, it would have benefited with veggies with more juice to them and veggies with a wider variety of flavor.

Amazing sunny side burger, maple bacon fries, and tropical green tea! The burger was so juicy and flavorful — love the truffle flavor with the sunny side up egg oozing out on all sides, and a parmesan crisp sandwiched in between. Messy, yes, but oh so worth it! The maple bacon fries are made with sweet potato with chunks of bacon with a coat of maple syrup. The green tea, thankfully, was not sweet and helped with the maple bacon fries that got a bit too sweet for me towards the end of it. My friend had the umami burger and said it was delicious as well. Come here, get any of the burgers .won’t disappoint. I thought it would be too my hype but it was definitely delicious.

Not sure if this is because we were just starving, but this was better than shake shack and in-n-out. We ordered the throwback and the manly burger with a side of truffle fries. The fries are a must have, they are thin cut and topped with garlic and cheese sauce. Between the 2 burgers, the manly burger was hands down better. It was cooked perfectly, with chunks of bacon lardons that just melt in your mouth. I don’t know what’s in their house ketchup but it was more like mayo and it went perfectly with the meat. In comparison to other burgers this just had more layers of flavor. Definitely will go back again!

First time trying umami burger and it did not disappoint! Took the waitresses recommendation and ordered the truffle fries with our burgers — great suggestion. Fries were thin and crispy; the garlic aioli was a great complement. What we ordered: Umami burger — caramelized onion gave it a nice flavor, meat was juicy/tender, more meat than shake shack Truffle burger — if you love truffle, get this burger. Talk about truffle overload! Very flavorful Truffle fries — must get! Have them with truffle ketchup — delish. Ahi tuna salad — pretty standard. What made it stand out from other ahi tuna salads I’ve had in the past was their puff rice. Gave it an interesting texture. Also liked the fact that they put the dressing on the side.

These branded burgers are pretty tasty, but I thought the fries were the star of this meal. The fries were great and come with 2 amazing ketchups — one spicy and one truffle. They a skinny and crispy. I liked the cruncy parmesan cracker –like part of the burger it definitely adds something unique. The total for 2 burgers, 2 beers and a small fry was around $ 45 — it feels a little overpriced. I had the hard rootbeer and didn’t love it — reminded me too much of flavored vodka in college. I think it could have been a little less boozy and a bit more rootbeery, but it wasn’t terrible. We were in a rush on our way out(late to get the bus back to Boston) and couldn’t seem to find a trash can. We took our trash up to the counter and the woman was a bit rude. Just vaguely pointed halfway across the place and told us to dump it out ourselves. In her defense, she probably didn’t realize we were in a rush, but I think it would have been nice of her to take care of it for us. I realize she may not normally take out the trash, but customer service stands for something and there was no one in line. Would have been a nice touch.

I’ve been to the Umami in Greenwich Village as well: overall I like this Umami better, specifically for the Sunny Side burger(I love truffle, and this burger is full of truffle — especially compared to the Sunny Side burger at the Greenwich Village location). Service is quick, and they still have just the same options. I keep coming back to this location for the sunny side burger, and the comfortable Hudson River view :)

I went here around 2:30pm and there was a line but I wanted to try the ice cream because it was cool haus which I have had before from cool haus. It was a hot day so why not. I waited on line with a few of my co-workers and when we got to the front we ordered the ice cream which ended up being $ 6.53 that was kind of a price shock especially since they do not advertise the price of it anywhere. The ice cream sandwhich I was told at the register was pre-packaged and not made fresh which was a big turn off but i said hey its cool haus its gotta be good, I was sadly mistaken, it was hard as a rock and tasted like some cheap ice cream you get from the grocery store. After we ordered the ice cream we were given a buzzer to wait to get a pre-packaged product. AREYOUKIDDINGME! I find this to be absolutely ridiculous to have to wait online for something you should be able to grab immediately. So we ended up waiting around 10 mins for something pre-packaged, UNREAL. I am very disappointed with the quality here and expect a lot more out of chain like this. In short DONOT! get the ice cream here it taste terrible and it will take forever to get.

Umami Burger started in 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. Since then, they have opened chains all over California and also one in Nevada and Illinois. They recently moved to New York, but face stiff competition from Shake Shack, the dominant burger chain in NYC. I would say Umami is at a higher price point than Shake Shack and their burgers range from $ 8-$ 15. The meat is American Wagyu beef that is ground in-house and it’s seasoned with their trademarked Umami sauce(soy, ground-up dried porcini mushrooms and dried fish heads). So that’s why their price point is higher — American Wagyu is not cheap! Most of their burgers are 6 oz. patties, but if you’re extra hungry you can get the Throwback which is made up of two 3.5 oz patties. I recently had the Throwback and it pretty good even though there’s not many toppings. Overall if I’m in the mood for a quick burger I’d prefer Shake Shack, but if I’m in the mood for something more gourmet I visit Umami.

After I downed a truffle burger($ 12) and truffle fries($ 5.50), I was in a serious food coma. Everything was satisfying even though my burger was well done. I DEFINITELY didn’t ask for a well done burger and I didn’t know I could request how the burger was cooked. This was disappointing. Luckily, the flavor of the burger was there. In addition, the burger had a proper meat/bun ratio. In my opinion, anything with truffle will always be good. Since truffle always makes things better, I had to get truffle cheese on my fries. The cheese was evenly distributed and the fries were skinny and delicious. I do wish they were a bit crispier though. Although i’m usually greedy, these are shareable fries. Umami Burger is tasty. I don’t regret essentially ordering a heart attack on a plate.

Umami burger is different from most burger places because their burgers have an «umami taste», a savory taste commonly found in founds like fish, mushrooms, vegetables and soy sauce. I tried the original Umami Burger, which comes with a crispy piece of parmesan cheese, shiitake mushrooms and a roasted tomato. The burger itself is of very high quality. The meat is very juicy and definitely has a unique taste. It comes on a soft brioche like bun. Their original fries are these very thin crispy french fries. They reminded me of the thin fries you get at Smashburger. They were so-so — I would have preferred larger thicker cut fries. The main drawback of this place is that the food is considerable more expensive than other burger places. A burger, with fries, and a drink will easily be $ 15 to $ 20. The burger is not exceptionally large either and comes on a smallish brioche like bun.
