I’ve been in the area for 6 years and this is my favorite bar. Cheap beer and a really, really good grilled cheese. You’re not gonna travel or go out of your way to go here, but as neighborhood bars go it’s all you can ask for.

Small local spot for a beer and to hang out. The wings were surprisingly good. Definitely try the spicy wings.

This is our local. You have to know the right times to go though bc sometimes it can get a little obnoxious w drunk Columbia kids(oxymoron?). Wed Night happy hour is fun and march madness is great and not generally too packed, depending. The locals can be colorful which makes it even better but there is this one guy who gets SCHWASTED& chants weird shit over and over and over and over. The bartenders are used to it but getting him to stop is like the needle just skips to another part of the record. Poor guys. He comes w the décor, I guess. We love it anyways. Great nachos & the burger is la Frieda & affordable(what???).

Great place to watch a Mets game. As a huge baseball fan, I was impressed with the atmosphere. Staff was friendly, bartenders always make sure you’re always taken care of.

Writing this review for my numerous visits to this place. I used to live round the corner from the Lion’s head and would frequent often, especially on Mondays, when they had .25 cent wing special. Not sure this special still exists but I would pay full price for their wings any time/day. Wings are full size, cooked crisp and served with a nicely flavored/spiced sauce. The owners and bar keeps are top notch. Even after years of being away, and adorning a 3 year long beard, they still recognize me and make me feel at home whenever I visit. So, to the deuche from SF that complained about the service and gave 1 star based on the fact that they wanted to charge you for a coke: I say, «get a life». It’s a business that charges for their product. And by the way, there is an ATM in the bar, which you could have used for the purchase so I suggest re-writing your review with a real perspective that steers clear of the same pretentiousness present in the vast majority of all your reviews. Hope to be back in Morningside Heights soon to catch a Saturday afternoon at this locale watching college ball, eating wings, and getting plastered… nicely plastered.

Came here specifically to order some wings. This place was recommended by a few people at a previous bar I was at so I thought I would check it out. Their wings are OK. I’m very picky about mine, but these weren’t terrible. Had a vodka soda with my wings and then left. I’d say this would be a great place for some greasy drunk food based on looking at the menu. But it was a cool little divey sports bar to hang out at!

Came here on a Saturday around noon and the brunette lady managing the bar was fantastic. The place was packed by 1 p.m. but she still served everyone promptly, kept the bar clean and had perfect nonfoamy pours. The wings are crispy and great so the Saturday 5 dollar/10 wings is well worth it. Also includes dollar macro drafts. Place is diverse with all ages and races. Talked with a guy setting up his 50th bday celebration here haha. Def coming back! UPDATE: there’s no more 50 cent wings on Saturdays(they’re the normal 10 for $ 9 or 20 for $ 15 but there’s still dollar beers.

The beer is good. The atmosphere is very relaxed. I had the Nirvana IPA, and it was delicious. I shared a standard order of tater tots. Tots are tots, and these were fine, but the service should have been quicker. Great selection of beers at reasonable prices.

This review is all about the outrageous service I received. Specifically, it’s about the service from the bartender with curly hair and a pencil on his ear on Friday evening June 26th. I walked in and sat at the bar. Ordered a diet coke. The bartender told me it’s 2 bucks. 5 seconds later, when he saw I didn’t put a bill on the table, he repeated ‘2 bucks’. Look, if you think I’m going to order only a coke for the night and need that money desperately on spot, fine. I took out my credit card and he told me minimum card is $ 15. I told him I didn’t have cash with me. Guess what? He said ‘Ok, next time’ and took my soda away. I was shocked as obviously that’s not something you would expect from a bartender and he just did it with absolutely no hesitation. What an amazing world. If the manager of lion’s head ever read this review, I sincerely suggest that you have some better trainings on your employee’s attitude. The service I received tonight from the bartender is beyond the border of customer service. It’s rude, outrageous, condescending and totally unprofessional.

Came to this place after hearing that they have some of the best wings in Manhattan, which was dead on. The wings were EXCELLENT. I also ordered chili cheese fries — wished there was a little more cheese to balance out the chili but overall still pretty good. My friends and I came here for the NCAA Final. There are TVs posted everywhere, so all of us had a good view of the game. Really liked the atmosphere — a cozy neighborhood bar that uses the space it has really well. The bartender/server was friendly and fun. I did have to walk up to the bar a few times to get his attention, but we kept in mind that there was a decent amount of people there and he was the only server. Definitely going back here.

A great time! The food and drinks were all good! The location is awesome and the space is great! This place has awesome specials every night and the God. Did I mention the food!!! My roommates and I all ordered different things, from wings to veggie burgers and everything was amazing. The bartender/waiter/owner was so great! Friendly and patient with our female ordering habits. Definitely will go back!

Loved everything about this place. From the memorabilia lining the walls to the $ 5 dollar hot wings and $ 1 beers. Saturday afternoons just got more tolerable in cold weather. Bring friends a great way to enjoy company good and cheap food. And get a day drunk on.

This is definitely more of a 3 ½ star review. I was drinking with a friend from the Bronx, so we decided to split the difference and come here. It’s a really nice casual bar, with attentive chatty and sweet bartenders, though people who are calling it a dive are a little mistaken. It feels much more like a neighborhood pub than anything else. Two bathrooms, one of which is very small, but both are totally usable. There’s plenty of seating. Decent beer selection. I would avoid the food. I know everyone else seems to love it but it just didn’t do it for me. The mozzarella sticks and jalapeño poppers being the lowlights(who doesn’t give marinara sauce with their sticks– get this tomato nonsense out of here!). The wings and onion rings are standard bar fare. The chicken wings were the best thing I had, I’d order them again. The music was a nice mix, and amid the more danceable, head bobbing stuff they also played stuff like Cake. Lots of Cake. I can’t remember the last time I heard Going the Distance in a bar, much love.

Only one BIG problem: lack of bathrooms. Otherwise, great small tavern, and dollar beer on Wed.

Came here on the weekday, the place was packed after 5:30pm. Bartender was very good and ask us what do we really want and how was our mood to drink and try this and that. Full bar and they have calvados(that I really love). Feels like at home… A lot of grad students and 25+ which is good.

Love. Love. Love! This is a great nabe bar! I’m here often and JJ and the other staff are rockstars! As far as the negative reviews, grow up! There is NO excuse for not tipping, no matter how cheap your beer. When you go out it’s simple: order a drink, be polite, and tip your bartender, well. I guarantee you’ll get attention and probably one on the house. Nonetheless, the staff is great! If you’re hungry in the middle of the night, the food is awesome! Overall, Lion’s Head is my go to at least a few times a week. The wings rock, the chicken sandwich is heaven, and they have tater tots! TATERTOTS! I mean all these Sonic commercials come on TV and I’m like, «I live in New York now! Where am I gonna get Tater Tots?» Next thing I know, I’m at Lion’s Head. Dreams really do come true. Especially at Lion’s Head. Get here.

Is the Lion’s head the best bar in the history of bars? No. Is the Lion’s head probably the best place to get some beers(for cheap), watch sports and chow down on some cheesy tater tots? Yes. The lion’s head is run by friendly folks, they always have specials, $ 2.50 PBRs, other quality local beers and food until late night. What more can you ask for? Since my original visit and review, I’ve been back and always have a good time.
