This is sexy Italian food done right. Upon entry, you’ll feel the quality and appeal of this place. Everything is directed towards an experience with a certain emotion in mind. It’s high class without pretension, cool without effort, sexy as sin. Eat pasta. Forget your low carb diet here. The plates are an appropriate serving size of the freshest, tastiest pasta you’ll eat in the city. The wine list is a perfect selection of accessible to excessive bottles. Eat dessert. The low lit ambience and ease of service will encourage you to do it. Try the lush olive oil cake, or an indulgent gelato. Whatever you do here, you can’t go wrong. This place is what happens when the quality of experience is put first.

My daughter took me here for a belated Mother’s Day celebration. The food was incredible and the service was superb. We started with a hamachi tartar that was so fresh and delicately flavored. This was followed by a refreshing and perfectly prepared Kale salad. We ordered a gluten free pasta with the Orreciette sauce and Branzino filet for our main course. Every dish we ordered was so delicious. We could have ordered another pasta but we decided to order dessert instead. We ended our meal with the trio gelato and olive oil cake. Our waiter was very attentive and I wish we remembered his name. Great service and great food!

There are some restaurants that you don’t want to tell others about because it’s so great and if it becomes too popular you’ll never get in. Well this is one and even though it’s been open for a long time, I still feel like I don’t want to rave about it too much because I’ll never be able to get in again. I love the food and the ambiance here. We ate and enjoyed everything. Kale salad, beets… who knew those could actually taste so good you want to order seconds or thirds. The other screaming must have was a mushrooms dish(I know… but trust me it was almost orgasmic). Orichette was out of this world. Topped it off. we had a wonderful wine and desserts are yummy. We had the olive oil cake and a walnut dessert which were awesome. It’s got great vibes, great food and it’s a pure joy.

As the current Unilocal check-in Duke of L’Artusi, I feel it finally the time to 1. Write my first Unilocal review after working at Unilocal for almost 4 years and 2. Write it for L’Artusi. I moved to NYC about a year and a half ago. Coming from the SF food scene, I am familiar with good eats(Delfina, Lolinda, Coqueta). Looking to fill the big shoes left by my food faves in the Bay, coming to NYC meant finding my new número uno when it came to restaurants. L’artusi filled those shoes, big time. The more and more I come here, the more impressed I am by the continued precision of how good the food is. From the starters to the desserts, each course is like its own unique experience — taking you on an extreme journey of flavor and parties in your mouth. A couple of times I’ve been here, I’ve been advised by the waiters that I was ordering«too much food for 2 people» — to which I reply, «oh don’t worry model-esque looking team at L’Artusi, this is not my first rodeo». Highlights and must haves: Beef Carpacio — unlike anything you’ve experienced in your life. It’s crunchy and amazing — start with this(or the special if they have it). Ricotta — usually paired with a seasonal compote like rhubarb or strawberry, you order this for the little crackers that come with it — unreal. Kale Salad — heard of the term ‘massaged kale’ before? Ya, me neither until I came here. Lemon with pecorino — elevate your kale game with this option. Garganelli Pasta — This is where the party in your mouth really turns up. If you like mushrooms, this will turn into an above & beyond situation. All the pastas. Hanger steak — You MUST save room for this. Not for the weak of heart when it comes to appetites, this entrée’s potatoes are deep fried and accompanied by a dollop of ricotta– game changed. Olive oil cake — So incredibly delicious. The olive oil they use is next level. Makes regular cake seem like a distant thought. Wine list is the size of an encyclopedia(literally). I’d recommend having them make a suggestion for you to relieve any anxiety. You will not be disappointed here but good luck getting a table. Reservations are 30 days out — may the odds be ever in your favor.

L’Artusi is always a good meal. I’ve been here a bunch of times and it never disappoints. They have a great menu that has something for everyone crudo, salads, pasta, fish and more. The food is delicious and has excellent flavor. Nothing is lacking and there is never a need for salt. The restaurant is always happening and it’s not easy to get a reservation but sometimes you can get lucky. Give it a try you won’t be let down!

Cool scene and really great food(had the kale salad, hamachi, chicken and pasta with mushrooms). The service seemed a little out of it, but they were friendly and accommodating. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would definitely go back again(have actually frequented this spot over the years).

3.5 Stars This place has dim lighting, an upscale look, and a upbeat musical vibe in the background. There’s an open kitchen in the back but you can’t see much unless you’re sitting on the back bar chairs. The olive oil which came with the complimentary bread was good, quite fruity. The la tur cheese(combination of goat, sheep, and cow milk) was smooth, creamy, and light in flavor. I liked the fruit jam that was paired with it on the side. Both jam and cheese were good on thin crackers. The roasted mushrooms were quite savory with the pancetta, and I enjoyed it paired with the texture of the sunnyside up egg. I liked the sausage and broccoli rabe cooked with the caviatelle. The pasta itself was al dente, I liked the pasta less. The charred octopus had a soft texture, not that chewy was paired with small slices potatoes and cooked green olive parts on the bottom. It was good but didn’t wow. The hanger steak was my least favorite dish, the center of the meat was practically raw. The large roasted potatoes on the side were decent with sprigs of rosemary. The olive oil cake was excellent, mild taste, nice, light texture with some powdered sugar on top. I didn’t really need the crème fraîche or golden raisins in syrup on the side. Overall, I thought this place was overrated, it was good but there were parts of each dish that I wasn’t too fond of. I think the roasted mushrooms, and olive oil cake were the best out of the above, and the only two I would order again.

This is my favorite restaurant in New York City! To say the ambiance is stellar would be an understatement. I came here with my family during the Holidays, and I am surprised we even got seated. There were some last minute openings at the bar and we sat there for dinner. To get a table here, you definitely should make a reservation way in advance. However, the food is SO worth it. What’s more, everyone working there is so friendly and nice! I highly recommend the Brussels Sprouts and the seasonal Mushrooms. Those are their best vegetable sides, and believe me the portions are actually enough to fill you up! I have nothing but good things to say about L’Artusi. It is a must try in this city.

*UPDATETOMY2014REVIEW* What can I say… I Love, Love, L’Artusi, and it’s one of my Top 10 ‘Italian’ Restaurants in the city, maybe even #2 for my taste. L’Artusi is the 2nd restaurant opened by the Epicurean group, who also own dell’anima(their 1st restaurant), Anfora(3rd and wine bar), and L’Apicio(4th). I love their first three establishments, with the 4th as my least favorite. I highlight the word ‘Italian’ to mean food as served in Italy, not Italian-American which tends to be packaged pasta, huge portions, heavy on red sauce — you know what I’m talking about — linguine fra diavolo, chicken parm, high-stacked lasagna, Nana’s meatballs, etc. So, for my taste and in my opinion, the best true Italian restaurants in Manhattan are: Babbo(pasta tasting) L’Artusi Osteria Morini dell’anima Locanda Verde Maialino iL Buco Marea Del Posto Ai Fiori Scalini Fedeli Frank or Supper(for Italian-American) In that order. I know to some, Marea should be at the top of that list as it’s considered #1 in the city, but it’s just way too expensive for what you get, and too over-the-top. I prefer its sister restaurant, and Michael White’s(chef/owner) first, and more casual establishment — Osteria Morini, as it’s more authentic to the Emilia Romagna region, in my opinion. L’Artusi is Outstanding with respect to the Food, Ambiance and Service, and here’s my Breakdown: Food(5-Stars): we ordered, — Hamachi Tartare– this dish should’ve been called«Ceviche», since they use a lot of lime juice in the dish, which overpowers the Hamachi to be honest. Was the only so-so dish we got, but I think it’s a naming problem on the menu. We thought it was gonna be more of a ground/cubed tartare-type dish(w/out lime juice), but wasn’t. GOOD — Roasted Mushrooms– one of their signature dishes, and lived up the hype. Sliced, tender and flavorful mushrooms patiently lying beneath the sunny-side up egg. Once mixed together, it was like a match made in heaven. EXCELLENT — Tagliatelle with Bolognese Bianco– another signature dish of L’Artusi, and also lives up to the hype. What makes this dish different than other bolognese dishes is that it’s prepared«bianco», or «white», because there’s no tomato sauce in the bolognese. I personally love it, as I’m not a huge tomato sauce person. Could taste more of the meat and pasta as a result of it not being included. LOVEDIT — Charred Octopus– very, very good, one of the best I’ve had and so flavorful when combined with the sliced olives. GREAT — Branzino– perfectly slightly charred on the skin side, and flaky on the inside. Awesome flavor and impeccably prepared. AWESOME — Olive Oil Cake– with golden raisin jam in a ‘Vin Santo’(holy) dessert wine, with a crème fraîche mousse. Don’t mess with the other desserts, just order this one! SOPERFECT Ambiance(5-Stars): sexy. with a casual formality to it, meaning everyone is dressed nice, but not too nice or formal or stuffy, as say a Del Posto. Service(5-Stars): prompt and fast waitstaff — plates removed quickly, drinks always filled, utensils changed after every plate, crumbs cleaned at every turn, etc. Price(4-Stars): a little on the pricey side, but not terrible for the quality you receive here. And it’s way cheaper than Marea, Del Posto & Ai Fiori. Our bill for two with a bottle of wine with tax & tip was $ 230. Wine List(5-Stars): exceptional wine list created by Joe Campanale(one of the owners), for whom I’ve admired his picks since I was in Somm School. List has wines from all over Italy, with prices as low as $ 45/bottle up to thousands of dollars, if that’s what you’re looking for. Our Sommelier, Shadia, was very knowledgeable and helped me pick a mid-range bottle(around $ 80). My date wanted white wine, and Italy can be tricky with whites, so she helped me maneuver the list and we both agreed on a Ribolla from Friuli, and the wine was Perfect! Don’t think she could’ve helped pick a better bottle at that price point. Overall, I love, love, L’Artusi. And personally think this is the BEST place for taking dates as it’s sexy, beautiful, impressive and tasty. Not that going with friends and groups isn’t great as well, but I think it works best for dates… just my opinion. If there’s any restaurant I can recommend as a must-see in NYC, L’Artusi would be one of them! Come, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

With so many high end Italian establishments in Manhattan, it’s hard to say where L’Artusi stacks up, but I have to believe at its price point it’s among the very best. I never like to proclaim favorites for fear of finding something better, but I’d be hard pressed to find any Italiano that does as stellar a job as L’Artusi. It’s hard not to love the open kitchen, contemporary décor, and modern dining feel. The layout in the upstairs dining room is date appropriate for sure, though for food enthusiasists the spot at the open kitchen counter /crudo bar might just be the best spot in the house. Bathrooms are immaculate and the level service is of the highest caliber. The menu is a simple breakdown of appetizers, vegetables, pasta, seafood, and meat. There are a lot of seasonal elements the staff will often note when taking one’s order, but one can’t lose with a menu in which everything is spot on. If dining in a group, consider the Dayboat Scallops($ 15) as a starter and the incredible Beef Carpaccio($ 16), which is decorated with rye crisps and a superb horseradish crema. Folks have raved about the Roasted Mushrooms($ 17), which come with a fried egg and pancetta but with my edible fungus issues, I have to pass each time. The Butter Lettuce($ 14) is indeed buttery, dressed with a lemon crema, gorgonzola, olives, and hazelnuts. For kale lovers, the Kale Salad($ 15) is fairly standard with walnuts, parmesan, and apple slices, but the Roasted Beets($ 14) is my veggie pick of the litter, which sits in a rich whipped ricotta, red sorrel, and pistachio bits. Amongst the seafood and carne choices, a blind pick would probably do one just fine. The Branzino($ 22) is a popular choice amongst patrons, though I have a penchant for the Charred Octopus($ 18) and Roasted Cod($ 30). The foodgasmic entrée of them all is the Hanger Steak($ 26), which is a perfect medium rare sear and in perfect steak-and-potatoes fashion features a crispy home-fries ish side and a complementary salsa bianco. The Seared Sweetbreads($ 16) won’t fill anyone up, but the white bean purée, escarole, chorizo works so well with the ‘breads that it would be my favorite appetizer if it were categorized as such. Carb lovers will appreciate the variety of pasta on the menu, of which there are more choices than anything else. The classic Spaghetti($ 18) is delicious, but the star for me is the Bucatini($ 19) which is perfectly al dente with pancetta, tomato purée, and pecorino for a salty component. Tagliatelle($ 20) is a no fail pasta choice given its bolognese base, but the star of the Linguine Nero($ 24), a wonderful blend of linguine, rock shrimp, chilies, topped off with bread crumbs. This is a must try dish for anyone who dines here. The West Village has so many great eateries of the Italian kind, but make L’Artusi part of the itinerary and it’s unlikely to disappoint.

With standout dishes like beef carpaccio, squid ink pasta, homemade ricotta, and saucy bucatini, L’Artusi has made it to my list of must-eat restos in NY. Everything we ordered was seasoned and cooked perfectly, service was incredibly accommodating and welcoming, and the ambiance was chic yet casual. Reservations are recommended, but if you can’t snag one, bar seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

I’ll give them 4 stars but honestly I was torn between 3 – 4. I’ve had L’Artusi bookmarked for a VERY long time. I finally decided to take my boyfriend here on his birthday recently. Definitely make reservations way ahead of time. The earliest I could get was 9:45pm for a Saturday and I called a week in advanced. When we walked in the wait was not very long but the place was packed! I was expecting something more intimate but definitely not the case. The music was pumping and we didn’t have our own separate table as I was expecting. Instead we were seated on the long couch against the wall tightly packed between other small tables. I wish we had our own individual table on the second floor. Be sure to request if you make reservations. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly. Our waitress was beyond hospitable. As appetizers, we ordered the Beef Carpaccio and the house Ricotta Cheese w/marmalade. The ricotta app was crazy good. However, I was very disappointed with the Beef Carpaccio. While the beef was tender and perfect texture, the topping(rye crisps) was extremely salty and overpowering. I tried to scoop it off but still got bits and pieces of it. I wish it was optional to have that on it. As entrees, I had the Cavatelli($ 22) and my boyfriend ordered the Tagliattelle($ 20). Portions were very small but flavorful overall. The pasta itself was cooked to perfection and the dishes were very aromatic. I highly recommend the gingerbread dessert! It was excellent and not overly sweet. Overall, it was alright but for some reason I had higher expectations.

Absolutely incredible. The food in this place was to die for. Such a simple main of spaghetti with olive oil and garlic but man it tasted sublime. The atmosphere was electric and was buzzing. Staff were very friendly which I found hard to find in New York. Wish I lived in New York so I could go here every week.

The food at L’Artusi lived up to its hype. Ceviche: I thought this dish was decent but not worth the price. Ricotta cheese: Pretty dang good. Their in-house made ricotta had an extremely creamy taste to it but at the same time was fluffy like a cloud. Served with jam and crackers, it was definitely a treat. Spaghetti: One of THE best pasta dishes I’ve ever had. I honestly expected that it was going to be a tomato based sauce but I was complete wrong. It turned out to be an olive oil/parmesan base with little bits of fried pancetta, sliced garlic, and chilli flake. I appreciated it’s simplicity and how each ingredient was able to shine. Do yourself a favor and get the spaghetti. Taglatelle: This pasta dish was solid. The noodles were al dente and sauce was tasty. The dish is quite heavy though because of the meat. I definitely enjoyed the spaghetti much more. Service was decent and pretty prompt. He wasn’t friendly nor rude… he was just there to serve. Also, we were glad we got to sit upstairs as the downstairs tables looked extremely cramped. Make a reservation at least 3 weeks in advance… you’ll thank me later. 4 stars.

Good service. Good food. very hard to get a reservation though! For the food quality it’s honestly too hard… Appetizers: — kale salad: favorite. The dressing is heavy but refreshing, reminds me of a kale caesar. — mushroom: good but I’m sensitive to spice and there was some. — cheeses: never had one I didn’t like. All the crackers are delicious and they usually come with some type of delicious jam. Entrees: I’ve had the gargenlli, white bolognese, orchiette and bucatini(excuse my poor spelling). The orchiette was the best, very flavorful and salty. Cooked perfectly al dente. However. In the last bite we found a small bone. It was so tiny that it was understandable, but still it was unappetizing. The bucatini is good but also a hint of spice. I enjoyed it but I don’t think I would get it again. The white bolognese and gargenlli were both good but not memorable. Sides: — brussel sprouts have been good sometimes and bitter others. Seems like theres some inconsistency Overall I always have a good meal at L’artusi but I have yet to be WOWed. The service is also consistently good.

Yes! L’Artusi for 200th review, so deserving. Just one of those rare orgasmic-jaw dropping-drool worthy dining experiences. Brings a tear to my eye just thinking of the perfection that was our dinner there. House-made ricotta: not always on the official menu but they will bring it to you if you ask. do yourself and favor and PLEASEASKFORIT. Crudos apps: the tartar was refreshing and flavorful. Pastas: choosing only one(or two!) will be the hardest decision you make this week. the bucatini was out of this world as was a special pasta we went for. zerts: OLIVEOILCAKE. my god. No room for dessert? Make room dammit! Wine: If you want a moderately priced bottles, the Annona Montepulciano was stellar. Lives up to the hype. Actually, L’Artusi surpasses the hype!

Only tried two dishes when I came here for brunch; wasn’t too impressed with either. The garganelli with mushroom ragu was not flavorful — although it was beautiful to look at, with ribbons of mozzarella heaped over it. The L’artusi scramble was tastier but there isn’t too much of an art to making good scrambled eggs and some nicely crisped potato cubes… Service was great and the restaurant is a wonderful, airy space, good for groups — but I had hoped that the food would be something more to write home about since I had heard so much about the restaurant!

So darn good, just like I remember it. Hadn’t been back to L’Artusi in a couple years, so I’ve been waiting off on a review, but a group of friends and I decided to have a late dinner around 1030pm on a Saturday night. Brilliant move, I know. My body is already hating me for ruining my eating schedule, but it was so worth it. My buddy was jonesin’ for some pasta, given that he was visiting from LA, and there’s somewhat of a dearth of good Italian out there, so we obliged. It is one of the nicer, trendier restaurants out there, so ya gotta give it a shot. The décor is pretty modern, with a multi-floor layout. I really like the fact that it’s an open kitchen, and the ambiance is perfect for both a dinner with some friends and/or a date. Anyways, we didn’t have to wait too long given that it was effing 1030pm, and we hungrily went for broke and ordered what seemed like the whole dang menu, including the cocktails. As for drinks, I personally went with the 336 King St, which was like an old-fashioned, but with a bit of a drier taste. Not too shabby, given how strong they made it. The dishes we ordered: — Roasted beets with whipped ricotta — Roasted mushrooms with pancetta and fried egg — Charred Octopus with pancetta and chilies — Sides of acorn squash and eggplant — Pici w/rabbit ragu — Cavatelli with hot Italian sausage — Linguine nero with chorizo and rock shrimp — Hangar steak with crispy potatoes — Pork chop with pancetta and celery root — Gingerbread cake with cream cheese gelato — Hazelnut chocolate torta — Salted caramel tiramisu One of my favorites was the cavatelli, which had great chew, and the hot Italian sausage had some really great spice and flavor. The pici was delicious too, and the rabbit ragu it came with wasn’t too gamy. In all, everything was actually pretty excellent, but it really is all about the pastas here. There are a ton of Italian restaurants in New York, but there are only so many of them that really push the envelope with the flavors, quality, and creativity. The desserts were all excellent, and yes, we did get 3 of them, so what? Service was excellent as usual. Our waiter was very patient with our questions, and the rest of the staff was very attentive with re-filling drinks and our miscellaneous small requests. The prices are actually pretty reasonable, given how nice it is. Given that it’s mostly sharing plates, there really aren’t any dishes that are above $ 30, which is pretty surprising. Everything was delicious, and I don’t think it was just because we were ravenously hungry. I’ll be back. Not even a question. Next time, I’ll get a reservation for a normal time, ha.

My boyfriend has been raving about this place for months now and was so happy that we were able to get reservations on Wednesday at 10pm. A group of friends were in town and we had to show them a great and delicious time so L’Artusi it was. I am so glad we came because the food here was amazing. Great quality, good portions, awesome service and beautiful décor/vibe from the restaurant. Everything was easily shared between 4 people. Crudo: Day Boat Scallops: The scallop were super fresh and the taste of the olive oil and lemon was overwhelming but in a great way. It complemented the raw scallops perfectly. Great texture and even better taste. Perfect to start the meal as it was so refreshing. Verdura: Roasted Mushrooms: There was a lot of talk on these mushrooms and I can see why. The mushrooms were roasted so well. Mixed with the fried egg and ricotta salata only elevated it even more. Plenty of flavor from the mushrooms. Pasta: Orecchiette: Fresh, in-house made pasta is always amazing. Al-dente, a great chew to the bite. There was plenty of pasta, pecorino, sausage and salumi to go around. Tagliatelle: Just as amazing as the Orecchiette. Super flavorful from the Bolognese. If you like long, flat noodle, this is your dish. Pici: The rabbit ragu and olive flavors were definitely the star of the dish. Perfect with the pasta as the carrier of delicious flavor. Overall the pastas were just great. All al-dente and plentiful in the dishes. I want to go back and try all the others. Charred Octopus: I think this may have been my least favorite as I have had better octopus in comparison. It was bit more chewy than I am used to and was at times difficult to cut. I will say that it was the end of the night so perhaps it was a rush job but still, it wasn’t executed perfectly compared to the other dishes I had. Sides: Crispy Potatoes — As the name would suggest, it was halved potatoes that were quite crispy on the edges. It came with whipped sour cream and onion which absolutely blew my mind. I can eat spoonful’s of that on its own. Brussels Sprouts: Roasted perfectly with a great hint of lemon. Cauliflower: Also roasted perfectly, full of flavor. Dessert: Olive Oil Cake — Super moist and not overly sweet. It had salt on the edges of the cake which enhanced the olive oil flavor. Delicious.

4.5 stars. How have I not been here til tonight? One of the best Italian places, if not the best, that I’ve had in the city in the years that I’ve been a resident here. I was lucky to be immediately seated, thanks to a colleague who went about 20 min earlier and got us a bar seat without waiting. I was afraid that the wait would be ridiculous, which it turned out being later that evening(Thursday). Our little bar corner spot was quite spacious and perfectly comfortable. The restaurant as a whole was a little warm for my liking, though. Service was great. Our waiter, Pete, was sincerely friendly and gave great recommendations. From the start of the meal, everything was great, down to the free sliced baguette and the amazing olive oil to dip the bread in. For appetizers, we got the fluke ceviche. I was hesitant on the fluke since I’ve had flavorless fluke ceviche at a different restaurant, but this was not the case with this. It was well marinated and tangy. The celery added an interesting flavor that I wasn’t expecting with this dish. Now the brussel sprouts, covered with fresh lemon juice and shaved pecorino romano. Wow. I told my coworker that I like brussel sprouts when they’re cooked right, and these were DEFINITELY cooked right. I loved the tanginess that the lemon added to the sprouts, which were shredded/cut instead of whole. A lot of places like to use bacon with their brussel sprouts, and I actually don’t like that combination. For my main, I got the charred octopus. It wasn’t a large juicy tentacle like I expected, but more of skinnier tentacle, making it a little dry. The peppers and olives were a nice touch. I even liked the potatoes, and I don’t really prefer potatoes ever. Colleague and I had a bet on whose dish would be better — I have to say his roasted cod dish was unfortunately the winner in this case. My -.5 comes from my octopus. For dessert, I ended with a pear gingerbread cake with cream cheese ice cream. Needless to say, the soft, slightly spicy bread with the cold ice cream… there’s no better combination. Will absolutely be back to L’Artusi.

Nice place, trendy, somehow too noisy, good food, but the price is not aligned with quantity : The amount of pasta in the plate is very poor, the cheese we chose we had less than 10grs including skin that we cannot eat and the rest of the plate was full of crackers and almond crumble that we don’t care for ! So unfortunately this strategy doesn’t work we won’t go again. Cat Jan.3rd2015
