Complete waste of money. I have only eaten here once and that was one time too many. I ordered the red, white, and moo bowl; no beef whatsoever. Over priced, the flavors were off, just no. The only saving grace was the little shop connected to it.

My grandma lives in Harrisonburg, so I like to come here when I visit. I like the nachos, and the tom ha gi soup was good when I tried it a few months ago. Lots of different choices here!

Ugh. My friends want to go. I figure I’ll give it another try. And am always disappointed. Food is NOT low-carb friendly. Portions are small. Greatly overpriced for what you get. I get the spinach salad and am fairly safe. Last time my friend got the staff recommendation — a bowl of white rice with one lone little piece of meat(a one inch cube, if that big) on top and a little bit of gravy. I felt so bad for her. But I wanted to giggle. I always eat super-healthy, but this is not. It’s just super-feel-good for people who don’t really know what is and isn’t good for you. I will not return, even if it is free.

We really liked the idea of this place… international cuisines, local and organic ingredients, an earth friendly vibe, but we were sorely underwhelmed by the end results. Everything we ordered: the African and Mac and cheese bowls, the hummus appetizer and even the multi– grain bread were all kind of bland. Interesting but bland. Very disappointing. Best part of the meal was the fresh teas!

This is the sort of place that you would expect to find in modern urban centers, populated by hipsters with Macbooks and Starbucks cups. They serve good food in a way that makes you feel like you’re making the world a better place by patronizing their restaurant. They serve«gluten free» options that are good enough for the faddish«gluten-intolerant» crowd but probably aren’t safe for celiacs(check out their menu disclaimer), and their«vegetarian» label seems as though it means«we simply couldn’t be bothered to put meat in this dish.» Regardless, they do a great job of serving good food with overtones of fabricated compassion. If you’re hungry and have a guilty conscience, this place is definitely for you.

Really, really good! Food was fresh and well-made, and the restaurant has a real commitment to locally grown and –sourced products. Employees were super friendly and the décor is great. I had the Vietnamese meatball sandwich — very good — and Hibiscus(Juice? Tea? We used to drink it when we lived in Central America and it’s a favorite). My son got the nachos, and he ate them up though he is a picky eater. I’ll definitely be back. More places should be like A Bowl of Good.

Great variety of American and ethnic(Thai, Indian, Spanish, etc) soups/salads/sandwiches. Three of us enjoyed different dishes and all were fresh, healthy, and perfect portioned size. Definitely recommend for locals or I-81 travelers.

What a great option for getting away from the usual fast food fare for lunch. This place is relatively inexpensive, uses as many local ingredients as they can, and has something for everybody, including a kid’s menu. I had the Bada Bun, which was rice noodles with chicken, cilantro, mint and some other yummy additions, and it was delicious and TOTALLY filling. I was between that and another item, and when I asked the cashier what he would recommend he was knowledgeable about the menu and made a good recommendation. I also tried the mac and cheese and it was fantastic. They also have sandwiches pre made if you are in a rush, and a big variety of teas and coffees. If you want a healthy lunch– skip Subway and come here!

Hungry with a few hours to chill before my next meeting, my coworker and I stopped in here for lunch. This place really likes rice! I got a salad, which on the menu indicated not containing rice, but when I was half way done with my salad, I realized that the bottom of the bowl was lined with rice. Weird! It was a Thai cabbage salad, so I have no idea why they felt the need to add rice to that. Aside from that, the salad was very tasty with the right amount of tang and sweetness. My coworker got an African stew of some sort and said she liked that. The place has wi-fi but it cuts out easily. We were there for 3 hours and the wi-fi was out 3 times. Very friendly staff and didn’t seem annoyed when we stayed there long after we were done eating.

I felt great eating here instead of the usual road trip stops like McD’s or Cracker Barrel. Alot of the food was locally grown. And everything was very fresh. The menu has lots of offerings, including some vegetarian options. I had a salad, with homemade ranch and my travel companion had some type of bowl with noodles, greens, and chicken. The price was good, about $ 10 for a large and filling salad and lemonade. Also, the man at the counter was very helpful in giving me recommendations as a lot of the food choices were things that I was not familiar with.

My husband and I were driving from Roanoke to DC for a mini-vacation. Harrisonburg is half way and we decided to stop for lunch. I was having a soup craving and saw A Bowl of Good on the freeway sign… needless to say we had to stop. I had the Tom Kha Gai and my husband had a sandwich, we both enjoyed a coconut limeade. We loved the fact that they source locally and even have a chalkboard showing where the ingredients come from. We both thought the global awareness elements were a nice touch, reminding us that we are all on this earth together. We liked this place so much, that after two days of fine dining in DC, decided to stop for lunch on our way home. Somehow I took the wrong exit and the google voice gave us the directions… to the 2nd and location. It’s my understanding after moving from a health food store, this was the original location. Located next door to a wonderful fair trade boutique, this location did not disappoint. My husband had the delicious mac & cheese, which somehow was comfort food and healthy rolled into one. I enjoyed the Bada Bun bowl. Wonderfully fresh and well seasoned noodle/salad bowl with lime and peanuts. After lunch we did some shopping at the Fair Trade store and have already decided that we’ll come back to do our Christmas shopping here. This is now our go to stop off the highway. Take that Chicken McNuggets!

Loved it! I was in town helping my son find a room to rent and we enjoy this location one night… had such a great meal that we went to the other location on the second night. I have only good things to say and was surprised to read anything ‘negative’. This isn’t fast food and you are not going to get a ton of food(maybe what college students are looking for?) you are going to get a great menu selection, well prepared and delicious food. You truly can taste the difference, fresh, no chemicals and just plain good. Can’t say enough about the staff and their assistance(and even suggestions and tastes!) Delightful in every sense of the word. I found my new go to place when in Harrisonburg. Thanks for the great food as well as local buying. Keep the good work.

Quite possibly the best café food in the area. Location is cute, a nice lunch spot. But the food is the star — fresh organic ingredients, amazing recipes, all done with care. …and if they have borscht? WOW. :)

We stopped here on our way north driving on I-81. It is a few miles off the highway but easily found and worth the visit. I can confirm what others have said — delicious food, friendly service and a pleasing setting. I very much enjoyed the bada bun bowl and my wife liked the all greek bowl. Fresh ingredients and very tasty.

I love this spot. I try and go for lunch as often as I can. The Bada Bun bowel does it for me. Also check out the Hibiscus tea, though I like to mix that with some southern sweet tea.
