Waffle House

Well after driving for hours, thought this would be a nice place to stop for a bit to eat. However the waitress on duty had better plans. The cook served burnt toast while the waitress sat at the next table flirting and sitting with a guest at his table, as we wait and wait for the coffee refill.

We were heading home from Williamsburg and needed a break. Hubby wanted to stop here partly because of memories from road-​trip of long ago. If I had been to a Waffle House it was long again and not something I remembered. We stopped in and took a table near the grill.
I had planned to have waffles but the hash browns were recommended by the waitress (& hubby nodded in agreement) so I picked hash browns. I got them with all the toppings except the gravy. First warning, I think the cheese was American (at least based on how the cook separated them). It was not a big deal because it was so buried under the jalapenos and chili I never noticed it. I barely noticed anything but the jalapenos and chili, and that includes the hash browns. Not an adventure I would partake again.
Hubby got steak, eggs & hash browns (with ham & cheese). It was a solid OK.
Our waitress was nice.
Two warnings — First, the place was freezing! We were both relieved when we exited the building and were hit with the hot and humid air, at least for a little while. Second, hubby used the restroom and when he sat down he gave me a concerned look, moved my drink away from me hand, leaned in and said ‘don’t use the bathroom’. Usually when I express concerns about something he sights Afghanistan suggested it cannot compare, this time he was the one casting the warning (& taking away my diet coke!). He said there were flies among other things…
2 – 2.5 I am rounding up to a 3 partly because I am guessing they got a lot of traveling guests and that can create an interesting environment that might be difficult to keep-​up, plus our waitress was nice.

Move over ihop the Waffle House is better. Loved to sit on counter watching my big Texas steak and cheese melt being made. Southern hospitality service and mouth watering food. Hash browns smothered by cheese was to die for (and probably increased my cholesterol by 10%). Located with easy access to highway and parking (parked a 16 foot uhaul)

My friends and I go to this Waffle House several times a month. Usually it’s night time. The waitresses are usually very friendly and attentive. The last time I was there, the sweet tea tasted a little funny, so I asked if she had more, and she got me fresh tea right away. My food is always hot and fresh, but one of the cooks does an amazing job compared to the other cooks. I try to avoid other Waffle Houses.

It seems that whenever I travel to and from North Carolina to see my family, I always stop at this same Waffle House restaurant located in Fredericksburg. I absolutely love this place.
I have been to other Waffle House locations. However the service at this particular location seems to be the best thus far. The servers, even when the place is packed, remain very professional and courteous. They are so good, that when there are a ton of other customers to serve, they can deal with you as if you were the only customer there.
In terms of food, I believe that Waffle House has the best amongst the big chain breakfast restaurants. Their breakfast actually look and taste as if were prepared by a family member. Also, at this particular Waffle House, you only have to tell the server ONCE how you want your breakfast prepared. For example, if I tell them to scramble my eggs very hard, I know that my eggs will come out as such. I definitely can say that my experience at another Waffle House, closer to DC, was not like that.
Like I mentioned earlier, when I travel to North Carolina via I-​95, I always put this particular location in my Waze app. Coming or going, I am going to stop here for the great service and food. Trust me.

We had a fairly simple breakfast at this Waffle House today and it was just, well, okay, nothing special but the service was good and the food fairly tasty, not a particularly large or even thick waffle, so glad that I added grits (which were a little grainy but not bad) and extra bacon, or I’d have left there hungry. Hey, it’s a Waffle House, not an IHop or Cracker Barrel — not really disappointing, just about what you would expect at a Waffle House.

Don’t eat here just don’t do it I had hair in my eggs and a cockroach sitting next to me running around on the fridge.

Food is good, comes out fast as usual and the staff are friendly !!! Been here several times !!!

I’m from NY and wanted to try Waffle House for the longest. So on our way home yesterday we stopped. I had the hash browns with some fixings and my son had chocolate chip waffles. Halfway home I had to pull off the highway so that my son could vomit. I’ve felt like vomiting and haven’t eaten since (a full 24 hours later). This was the only thing we had to eat yesterday. The food was good but I’d never eat here again unless you like dining with insects and becoming violently ill. I expected something down home and not fancy like what we’re used to here in NY but I should have kept driving!

The food was fine but their food handling skills were disgusting. I sat at the counter and after the food was delivered I watched the cook prepare the next order while I ate. He fished around in a bucket of pinkish liquid for pork chops which he plopped down on the wooden cutting board. He didn’t change his gloves before touching other things at the grill. Another customer complained about their poor food handling skills. If I don’t get sick it will be amazing!

The food is always good, the coffee is hot, the staff is friendly, and the have a seat waiting for you. If you want room for more than two sit at the low or high bar. They will give you a coffee to go after your meal if you ask.

Food here is inexpensive and quick but the service makes Waffle House more than just a fast food place.
«Shorty» is friendly but not in an overbearing annoying way. She was very sweet and came by to check on my boyfriend and me after she had taken our orders and served us our dinner.
With a big smile, she waved goodbye and told us good night when we left.
I always feel like Waffle House is greasy and smells greasy but it really isn’t. My one bigger complaint is sometimes the portions don’t seem satisfying but then again, it’s not expensive and you can always order more food.
I do like that calories are posted next to each item, even the toppings and soft drinks.

Double waffle… I am guessing north of 1000 calories !!!

The floor is covered in a thin layer of grease and the food isn’t any better. I had to wash my hands up to the elbows to get the stickiness off, and I didn’t order waffles! If this were the last restaurant on earth, I’d learn to hunt.

Out of the three late night dine in places in the immediate area, Steak and Shake and Denny’s being the other two, this is perhaps the best of them. Service is good and food is excellent! The best waffles come from Waffle House

Pretty standard for your local waffle house. Nice people and quick service. The food was decent as well. No complaints from anyone in my group. All waffles were enjoyed!

yeah it’s a Waffle House, but there are subtle differences.
I went in at 9:40pm on a weeknight.
–They were dead, but the staff was polite and attentive.
–My food was cooked right and my to-​go order was correct,
which is more than I can say fo rmost restaurants in NoVa.

This is your typical waffle house. Quick, easy, and cheap.

I’m not sure what the other reviewer expects at a Waffle House, but it certainly shouldn’t be high quality food. Its a waffle house, you should expect bowls of grease!
The great part of this Waffle House is consistency… the food definitely is the same every time I go… its greasy, low cost food… take it for what it is.
What COULD be better here is the customer service. There’s a very large, older, grumpy waitress there all the time and she has such a terrible attitude. One day when I was there, I actually saw her having a fit and she was literally throwing dishes around, making so much noise and commotion is was very awkward.

Look is this GREAT food that you’ll die for? Hell no, these little dives are awesome for classic diner food cooked right in front of you. I mean come on people, get over yourselves, you can only cook an egg so many ways but when you are someplace like Denny’s or IHOP you MIGHT be getting eggs, but you might just be getting some egg/​soy/​whatever mix. If I order eggs, I want there to be one ingredient — eggs.
Back on track, pick your meat (I recommend a nice greasy Texas cheesesteak melt and get some hashbrowns. I like mine scattered, covered, and chunked but feel free to do your own thing. My last recommendation is if you order yourself a burger (they are rather so so), order a side of 2 eggs scrambled with cheese and put them on top of the burger and enjoy the same egg burger I’ve been enjoying for 20+ years now.
They are always open, so it does make them perfect for those late nights out, but if you’ve been drinking make sure your stomach can handle the heavy dose of grease and butter.
