Best Chinese takeout spot I’ve ever been to, hands down. We didn’t eat in, but I can’t imagine many people go for the ambience. Food was amazing, especially for the price. Order takeout or eat in, but just go, you won’t regret it.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Monterey/Carmel area. The vegetables in the dishes are fresher and in larger pieces. The dishes have great flavor. There are even options for vegetarians.

Got the duck, hot and sour soup, and spring roll. All were delicious! When I went they were only accepting cash, which was a bit inconvenient, but there’s an ATM right next door so it’s not a big deal if you don’t have cash. Service was good and the food was served promptly.

Stopped by this restaurant while driving on CA Hwy1. My friend and I ordered the roasted duck with buns. It was super crispy and delicious! You gotta try that!

Suggesting Chinese food for dinner is not something my wife does often, and being a Chinese food lover myself, I will always take her up on it when she suggests it! Tommy’s Wok is a quaint, small place tucked away off of Mission street just south of Ocean Ave. the food was pretty good. We had the Pu Pu appetizer platter to start. The ribs went the best-needed more glazing, but the paper wrapped chicken, egg rolls, and the rest were really good. We went in to have chicken chow mein, which looks better than the pictures, and as really good. The Szechuan Beef was exceptionally tasty, as well. These three items, along with two beers, was just the right amount for the two of us. Is it the best Chinese we’ve had? No, but we would go back while in Carmel.

We come to Carmel often and always come to Tommy’s at least once per visit. The food is consistently of above average quality and very tasty. The biggest downside to this place is the below average service. Not only is it slow but the servers are very unfriendly and borderline rude. Last night it took 10 minutes to get a server to stop by our table after we sat down. They were not busy, just didn’t seem to care! We asked for water twice but finally she decided we deserved it… 15 minutes later. It took about her 15 minutes to run my credit card. Management needs to address this ongoing behavior. It’s the same every time we visit. We will go back simply because there isn’t a lot of options around Carmel and the food is very good. Oh… They went way overboard on their Christmas decorations! Check out the pic! Lol. Why bother? A 6″ crooked tree! Ya gotta laugh! ii

Been there yesterday, company of 3 people. Were seated immediately after coming. And saw 2 more companies of 3 coming after. So kinda don’t understand what people were complaining about :) I’m very picky about food, and have to admit that it was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! We ordered beef with veggies, duck with a plum sauce and walnut prawns. Beef was juicy and tender. Duck was really good too. The prawns were amazing! And they use good cooking oil! We were served quickly and had nice service. Left the place full and satisfied.

Unilocalers, bless your wee cotton socks, you never let me down. We’re staying in Monterey and decided Chinese food was the only thing we wanted to fill our tummies with this evening. The 4* Unilocal rating is definitely justified in respect of the food. The Chicken & Corn chowder(basically chicken & sweetcorn soup) was very tasty indeed and you get a nice big bowl(enough for two to share comfortably). The veggie spring rolls were also good, but I preferred the soup. We all shared a beef chow mein, lemon chicken and a curry chicken for our main, alongside some rice. All three dishes were tasty, cooked properly and not overly-heavy. After filling our tummies, we didn’t feel tired or bagged up, which happens with msg-laden Chinese food. The whole meal, including a coke, two Bud Light and a sparkling water came to $ 67 before tip. We felt that this was a reasonable price given the quality and amount of food we had. Oh, they also bring you a teapot of green tea once you’re seated and there’s no desserts on the menu. We’d definitely visit again if we’re ever back in the area.

There are not many places in Carmel for Chinese food. Tommy’s Wok is one of them. The following is my review… Vegetarian egg roll: Pretty decent and tasty. The dipping sauce added a nice flavor. Chinese Salad with Chicken: They make this salad with tomato and cucumber. You will rarely see a Chinese restaurant using cucumber and seldom do they use tomato. If you like tomatoes and cucumbers in Chinese food, order away! Otherwise, you have been warned. Chicken in Black Bean Sauce: Pretty good. Enough black beans to add a nice flavor. Seating: Most tables are set for two people. If you have three to four in your party, have an early dinner! There were two waitresses on the floor tonight and they both worked hard. Service was good. What you will find here is pretty Americanized, but it is In Carmel, after all.

*WARNING* Do not go to this restaurant with a party of 3 !! Checked in with a party of 3. Told the wait would be about 30 min. 45 min later after several parties of 2 were seated ahead of us we were told that we had the next table. 15 min later a party of 6 showed up and was given the table. Manager said they had a reservation. However the manager rudely told me they only take reservations for parties of 4 or more. Really ?? Next time if I ever go back I lie, make a reservation for 4 and then maybe 1 less shows up. A simple«We can not accommodate a party of 3 tonight would have more professional and saved me over a hour of my time. Urggggg

My friend and I stopped here for dinner while we had a road trip along the Pacific Highway. We ordered pork dumplings for starter and mu shu pork for entrée. The dumplings were yummy, but I’m afraid the mu shu pork was neither authentic nor tasty, although it was really a big serving even enough for two girls. It was not because of the food that I rated this restaurant two stars. I was not satisfied because the waitress couldn’t split the bill for us, simply because the restaurant didn’t have the computer for this! The waitress spent quite a long time for hand calculation and unbelievably did it wrong! When we pointed out her mistake, she somehow didn’t admit it! Finally, we had to give up splitting the bill.

My wife used to go here with her parents, and she has taken me several times between our honeymoon, anniversary, and other trips. It’s absolutely wonderful, especially with their relatively low prices! I’d say it is next to, if not the very best Chinese food I have eaten to date. Go here. Especially at lunch. :)

This place is the go-to spot for Chinese food in Carmel and Monterey. I’ve been very impressed each time I have visited and all the dishes are cooked authentically and served as soon as they are ready. The place is tiny so expect to sit close to other customers and to wait a bit if you come during busy times. I recommend the vegetable potstickers, any of their soups and noodle dishes. Fresh ingredients and very vegetarian friendly!

Average run of the mill lunch style Chinese. There’s absolutely nothing special about this place. It is a mystery to me why people rated it so high. The service is fine and the food is average. Had the Szechwan Beef and it came as a brown sauce with random vegis. It was missing the celery and spice that I am use to but still edible. Can you do better in Carmel? Absolutely!

Great hole in the wall Chinese in Carmel. You would never know this place existed without Unilocal. It sits in the Bank of America parking lot, tucked away. Great Chinese food. Friendly service. Fast take-out. Pros: — Extensive menu — Vegetarian options — Mu Shu Pork was great — Pot stickers and eggrolls were great — Easy to order by phone and then pick up

Coming from the Bay Area, Chinese food is normally not our cuisine of choice in Carmel — however we wanted something casual for lunch and were really curious about(downtown) Carmel’s only Chinese restaurant. Tommy’s Wok, like the name suggests, has numerous stir-fried and fried lunch combos that are a pretty good deal. Just under $ 9 for a entrée, fried rice, chow mein, and bowl of hot and sour soup. They also have a limited dim sum menu. Kung Pao Chicken was excellent, with soft chicken meat and full of spicy flavors. Better than lots of places. Pork pot stickers were also good — pan fried and a nice sweet-spicy chili sauce on the side. Shrimp tofu was drowning in sauce but brush some off and the tofu is good –nice firm texture. Steamed dishes were okay — just not as fresh. Combination dumplings was just assorted dim sum, while sticky rice was a single gigantic block of rice with large pieces of sausage and chicken meat inside. It wasn’t bad — rice and meat cooked well and good flavor, just without the intense mushroom and seasoned ground meat that makes it special. Would consider coming back for quick lunch — but would stick to items cooked in a wok and avoid the steamed dim sum.

Great Chinese food in Carmel. The restaurant is(very) hard to find and after several attempts, we found the back entrance tucked away behind a bank. The seating and ambiance is casual and family friendly. We parked the stroller outside and though the restaurant is small, there was enough space for the carseat to sit on the ground next to our table. Fried rice and kung pao were great. My husband ordered noodles which were probably more of an acquired taste.
