I’m going to give them four stars, taking into account the beautiful décor and excellent service. I’d go 3.5 stars if it were allowed. The salt-baked shrimp was mildly spiced, good for shrimp, and tasty, but not a a traditional concept of the salty dish. The Szechuan beef was downright bland, and tasted more as if were steamed rather than stir fried. Later, we heard guests requesting dishes be made«spicy.» I’ll bet that helps. The ingredients were fresh and high quality. I think restaurant is a reasonable value for Carmel, as the dishes were good sized. One dish per person is more than enough.

So bad. Both for long time of waiting for dishes and little portion of food. Never come to here again!!! Four persons with four dishes is not enough at all!

Disgusting, empty, small kid portions which was fine since it was gross. No flavor at all. Don’t waste your time. First and last time here ever.

I ordered curry chicken for takeout, got a box full of vegetables and 2 – 3 very small pieces of chicken.

Ordered take out and won’t do it again. We are local — potstickers not cooked through, brown rice actually looked and tasted like rice crispies. Guessing reason my husband is throwing up and I’m not is that I didn’t have the soup? WOW

Both the Kung Pao chicken & the mandarin chicken tasted flavorless and the mandarin chicken actually left a weird chemical taste in the mouth. The only thing good were the egg rolls. We couldn’t even force ourselves to keep eating anything else. Ordered through doorbell dining and will never order from China Delight again. This was our first and last time. I have never lived in a town that it’s so hard to find good Chinese food!

Very disappointed with this low quality Chinese food and horrible service. The beef kabobs were so tough they were inedible, yet they would not send them back, nor credit our bill. We won’t be back.

Once again I am left dumbfounded at the lack of decent Chinese style restaurants on the West Coast and specifically in the Monterey Peninsula. Left the Rio Grill a couple nights ago and found one of the menu’s from China Delight stuffed in my door handle which proves flyers work! Decided to give them a try today for some take-out. The cliff’s notes version is they were very polite and prompt both on the phone and in person, but the food is overpriced(even for Carmel) and«extremely bland» doesn’t even begin to describe the lack of flavor. With Kung Pao Shrimp and Scallops which is clearly marked as hot and spicy on their menu it was basically like diced zucchini and water chestnut soup with some quarter size shrimp thrown in for flavor. It isn’t bad food, it just fails to deliver the notification to your taste buds that then tell your brain your desire for Chinese flavors has been satiated.

China Delight is the very best Chinese Restaurant in the area! We go at least once a week and are never disappointed! Service is excellent and the food is always the freshest and finest quality. Highly recommend!

One of neighboring businesses recommended this place. That will teach me to listen to strangers! Bland and way overpriced. The orange chicken was chunks of chicken in some bland orange sauce. Actually it looked like lemon not orange. The egg rolls were very good, should have stopped there! The kicker was that we both ordered brown rice as our side. We got a small bowl of maybe 11⁄2 cups of dry rice…$ 5.50! The service was horrible. Our soup came after the entrée and we had to ask several times for water. One and done visit!

Great Chinese food… Some of the best customer service I have ever had at a Chinese restaurant. We had crispy duck, which was good, I just expected more sweet Peking flavor… Good all around

Lunch special is a good price but a bit bland and portions are small. They are fast and friendly though.

My family and I make sure to visit this restaurant once a year, every year, if possible and have done so for more than a decade. I do not exaggerate by saying this is the best Chinese restaurant and food I have ever had in my whole life and I have had many here and over seas. The simplicity, cleaniliness and consistency is impeccable. I recommend this gem to anyone local or passing through.

My husband and I decide to give this restaurant a shot and let me tell you we regret it! Food was not good at all! Don’t even waste your money there, go somewhere else. Service was not that great either the waitress was rude and when I asked a question she responded with an attitude. We only tried this restaurant because there was only like 3 restaurants open at the time(most restaurants were closed from 2−5pm)

This place is terrible, haven’t been in years but with the rainy weather yesterday and limited options in crossroads Chinese sounded good so we thought we’d give it another shot, well its still terrible. Food is extremely bland and not hot enough. I had the Kung pao shrimp which consisted of mostly vegetables no shrimp. It comes with fried rice that is more like steamed rice with maybe a diced veggies in it but not nearly enough. The waitress was nice but just can’t give it more then 1 star they need to get new chefs. No idea how this place has lasted so long. Oh and my brother had a hair in his egg roll sauce, yuck.

We have ordered take out quite a few times from here, we always order the same thing. Tonight we ordered and when we went to pick it up, it was wrong, and the server argued and said I was wrong, and then begrudgingly remade the order(so she said) They just washed it off and gave it back, we live close by and would have come here every week, but not anymore You lost our business.

Cliffsnotes version, mediocre(at best) food, terrible service. We were visiting Carmel on Christmas Day and we were starving by the mid-afternoon when we stumbled on this chinese restaurant. Bear in mind, everything else was closed as it was Christmas Day, so our options were limited. We walked in and were easily ignored for 3 to 5 minutes, as it appeared there were only 2 waitresses on the floor with about 15 packed tables. When we were acknowledged, and asked for a table for 3 we waited for a few more minutes when we finally sat down. When my father-in-law asked for a split check, the waitress told us it was going to be too much work to do that. WHATTHEHELL? Who says that in a restaurant? Anyway, he was about to challenge her on that, but I said I would just put it on my card. I mean, you don’t want to piss off the people serving you! You saw the movie Waiting right? We ordered the cashew shrimp, bbq pork chow mein, mongolian beef, and pot stickers… oh wait, we were told that they would take a long time to get ready… really? At a chinese restaurant? Isn’t that supposed to be a staple of American-Chinese restaurants?! We skipped it and asked for the spicy wontons. We also asked for a diet coke and 2 waters. We got our«spicy wontons» in reasonable amount of time. I’m pretty sure they were pre-made for soups, which is fine by me, but the«spicy» sauce was really more of a peanut sauce. It tasted something more like you would get with chicken satay, not wontons. Since we were eating, we were also thirsty so we had to ask for our drinks(again!) The waitress replied, «Yeah, yeah, yeah…» and walked off. Um what? EXCUSEME? I let it go, because it was Christmas, and I figured she was stressed out and busy. Our entrees came, but still, no drinks. As for the food, my father-in-law enjoyed his cashew shrimp, as he is a healthy eater and prefers foods that are heavier on the veggies and such. Lets just say that’s the only reason why he liked it, as they were skimpy on the shrimp. The mongolian beef was terrible. 80% of the dish was green onion scallions and bamboo shoots. There was very little meat to speak of, and at $ 13.25 I felt like I got ripped off. The only decent dish there was the chow mein. We asked for BBQ pork, but they gave us regular pork instead. It was really the only thing that I was satisfied with. Half way through our meal, we flagged down our waitress for our drinks(for the 3rd time!) 10 minutes later she came back with my diet coke and one water. C’MON! There are three people at the table, but you bring us two drinks?! We tell her we want a 3rd water and she says she’ll be right back. In the mean time, my wife and I share our super small(like less than a can) of diet coke while my father-in-law has the water. By the time we got our 3rd water and refills, we were done. I just asked for a check and paid the bill because it was be so hard to split the check. I didn’t leave a tip and wrote terrible service on the check. If they aren’t looking at the terrible reviews that we post here, I’ll let my wallet do the talking instead.

We came in on a Saturday afternoon because we were starving after our hike and long drive to this plaza. We parked in front of China Delight, and because we were starving, we didn’t have the energy to go and look for another place to eat at. It was not busy so we got seated right away. I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff. They were nothing but smiles and refilled our water glasses without having to ask. However, I was a little bit disappointed with the food. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch special which came with soup or salad and an egg roll. The only good from my meal was the hot and sour soup. The beef was tender but lacked any flavor, it was very bland and not spicy at all. I must have overlooked that in the menu because I love spicy Mongolian Beef but this dish was not. In addition, we ordered other dishes as well, but they too lacked any flavor.

Our visit to China Delight was a spontaneous decision based strictly on hunger bordering on ravenous. There are many eateries in the Crossroads shopping center but the call of chow mein won the day. The place was empty, late lunch to dinner change so we looked at the lunch menu offerings. There are maybe 8 lunch combinations averaging $ 8.50. My wife chose the Honey Orange Chicken with fried rice and a small egg roll. I ordered the House Chow Mein off the main menu($ 9.50) and ordered a cup of hot and sour soup($ 2.75). The server was enthusiastic about the chow mein and thought I made a good choice. Unfortunately the dish did not measure up. The dish looked initially to be chock full of pork, chicken and shrimp and the image I snapped shows an impressive array but this is a clever illusion. Beneath the surface was nothing but warm, not hot noodles. So, place the noodles on the serving dish and then cover the pile of noodles with the meat! Fool me once. My wife’s chicken dish was nicely presented and the sauce tasted very good. She said the orange chicken tasted boxed — she noted the three shrimp in my dish looked(and tasted) like they had freezer burn. The dining room is nicely decorated and the restaurant is very clean. The Chinese music playing on low volume was soothing. Our server was very helpful and friendly. I asked if she was the owner and she told us the owner was the woman sitting at another table. She heard the conversation but did not acknowledge her guests! This is where an owner should come over to welcome her guests. It’s the kind of gesture that might make you overlook mediocre food once in awhile just to come off the street to a welcoming environment. My fortune cookie read; «If you speak honestly, everyone will listen».
