Here for work. After about 20 hrs with no food, I really didn’t want to go anywhere far, so decided to get take out from this place which is down the street from my hotel. The food definitely is geared towards the non-asian palate. Large portions, but food was just average at best. The female that helped me with my order was really friendly.

This is my favorite Chinese Restaurant in Monterey! The food is always delicious and fresh and the staff is incredibly friendly and warm. I especially like the spicy food on the Chinese menu they keep behind the bar. The spicy chicken wings and curry beef are my favorites! Yummmmmmyyyy!!!

Great place just went to pick up some decently priced chicken fried rice and it was good a little oily but it’s to be expected with chinese takeout. Fairly large portion for the price, you could share for two.

This is my go to place for Chinese food. I love the orange chicken, the honey walnut prawns, beef and broccoli, and of course the fried rice. They are fast and delicious every time. Yu is the happiest most lovable restaurant owner around. Good heart, great food, and awesome people.

This is my husband and I’s go-to Chinese place, especially since an old favorite came under new ownership. This restaurant is always clean and welcoming when we decide to eat in or pick up food, and the food itself is always delicious! If you dine in, assuming they’re not busy, you get your food extremely quickly. The portions are always big, no matter if you’re dining in or picking up /getting it delivered. My husband and I’s usual order of fried rice, chow mein, and some sort of meat entrée usually last us 3 meals or so. They’re wonderful! With all that aside, the people who work there are some of the most hospitable, kind people I’ve encountered in the food industry. I myself am awful with faces and names, but the server who helped us the first time we ate there instantly recognized and welcomed us the second time and onward, which was impressive and above all else, nice! Their customer service and food are fantastic, and as many times as we’ve been there, they’ve never disappointed.

I really wanted to like this place as l pass it frequently going to and from my house in Monterey. This place is frequently highly rated for its food, service and atmosphere. The people who serve you are very friendly, and clearly there are regulars who they have extensive chats with at their tables. It’s a big place, and nicely decorated. So let’s talk about the food. Sizzling rice soup was okay, they don’t spoon it out at the table. Simply dump the rice and go. The broth was quite bland with mostly chopped celery as the vegetables. You must ask for hot tea, it will not be automatically given. Fish(l believe it was rock cod) with Black Bean Sauce was very good. I would order that again. Beef with Garlic Sauce was weirdly sour. Not very garlicky. I thought that because they had a short menu with few dishes, the odds that everything they made would be very good. It was not. Perhaps there are other dishes on the menu that they really shine at, but as my first impression at eating there, l wasn’t overly impressed.

I have yet to actually eat some of their food. But I had called one evening to order delivery. My partner and I recently moved to Monterey, and we just wanted some Chinese food delivery to enjoy in our new home. When I called and asked if they could deliver to our place on Josselyn Canyon Road, the person apologized and said the driver doesn’t drive over to our area. I obviously understood cause I know of other restaurants that have a distance limit for deliveries. So no worries, but the person was very apologetic and felt bad. You could tell it was a genuine reaction, and she had hoped there was something else they could do. I may not have eaten any of they’re delicious-looking food, but I just had to share about their excellent customer service!

I like the atmosphere which is spacious, clean, and airy. The service is very efficient, I don’t need to wait for a long time. If I have a special order, they are willing to help me. Anyu is a sweet girl. Every time, when I have my meal there, she is really helpful. If you are a tourist, you don’t want to wait for a long time to get your food at a restaurant, but want to have a better environment to talk over a meal, this is the best place to go.

Super nice and friendly staff; I think it is the best Chinese restaurant in Monterey. Better quality and nice fresh ingredients. They remember me when I come in and go out of their way for me. I would give them 6 stars if I could!!! Must try the huge fat pot stickers, hands-down THE best I have ever had… anywhere! Not like what you normally find.

Service was soooo quick, I came in by myself to grab lunch, and I was in and out within 20 minutes! I got a broccoli beef lunch special and it literally came out in 2 minutes. A little suspicious, but it was warm and delicious so I’m not complaining. It also came with egg flower soup and a pot of tea, all for $ 6.95. I will definitely be returning if I’m ever in the area and in need of a quick lunch!

Two stars — «meh, I’ve experienced better» rings true for China Garden. I totally GET that I shouldn’t be expecting top notch Chinese food in Monterey, but China Garden still didn’t meet my already low, basic expectations for any general restaurant. — The service left a lot to be desired. I consider myself relatively low key in restaurants, but I had to fetch the waiters(who seemed miles away on the other side of the unnecessarily large restaurant) more than three times throughout the meal for some chopsticks, rice, and the check. Yes, the check… don’t you want my money?! — And on that note, FYI — they automatically give out forks here, no chopsticks. Not surprising… but it took two tries of us asking for chopsticks before they brought them to our table. — It was a rather chilly night, so we ordered the hot and sour soup in the hope that it would warm our bellies. It did that and more — there was SO much pepper that I couldn’t really taste much of anything else by the time I had finished my bowl. — Portions were meager. My group of four girls finished every bite of 4 dishes with not even a scrap of the mu shu pork to be scrounged up at the end. I think it’s safe to say I won’t be giving China Garden another chance.
