We ate here on Father’s Day and had a great time. They treated Dad’s to a free meal, which was nice. Wonderful food and great staff. Will definitely come back.

I had a great experience today at Tío Javi’s like I usually do. I seriously love this place. My friend and I ordered queso, combination fajitas and shrimp quesadillas. The food was great as always– the tortillas are the best in the city I’m sure of it! Our waitress, Phenix was exceptional! She was quick, helpful, personable, bubbly, and very attentive! She was over the top great, but the service is usually very good! I highly recommend this place!

We had a group of 5 people for lunch and all had a terrible experience. One person was not ready to order so we asked for a couple more minutes. A couple more minutes turned into 15 minutes before the waiter came back to take the order. In the meantime we ran out of chips and salsa and did not get another batch until our food came out a good 35 minutes later. The entire table except one person ordered fiesta nachos. When we got the food only one person received a fiesta nacho and the rest of us received original nachos. Not to mention the cook or waiter messed up our order even more by not taking off guacamole and adding peppers which was not supposed to come on the nachos that we ordered. Needless to say, our entire table had a bad experience and we will be sure to NEVER return. I would not even expect that type of customer service or mess up at a fast food restaurant.

Great! Friendly staff, the fajita lunch special was a great value, homemade tortillas, good salsa. The menu was very attractive. I will definitely be back when I’m in town.

We decided to stop in for lunch as we were passing on this side of town. Been wanting to try since it changed from Ninfas The salsa, especially the green sauce for the chips were very good. Kids split the beef quesadilla, they seemed to enjoy. My better half had the Granjos, chicken enchiladas with white sauce. I decided on the chicken burrito. All were good portions and tasted good. Our server was very polite, knowledgable of the menu, etc. The only reason it did not get 4 stars was I think $ 70 is to much for lunch, without any adult drinks, desserts and kids sharing a meal. I would not have a problem going back, but I will not return for lunch as it was too expensive. Goid luck

We had a quick stop here for a margarita & chips & dip. Green creamy dip is great. I ordered the Sausage bean cheese dip. Very tasty & lots! Salsa is also very good. The service was excellent. Great frozen margarita. I loved the warm fresh chips. We will be back.

I used to love this place and once considered it a treat since it’s a destination for me, waaaay off my beaten track. But that was when it was Ninfas. Seriously disappointed on my most recent and last trip. Although they say it’s the same everything since rebranding, some things are and some things are not. On the plus side if you are interested in the margarita — same. Please enjoy their margarita. Chips have always been hit or miss. Sometimes on the greasy inedible side, and yes they were. Same great salsa and green dip. My husbands enchiladas were fine but they’ve changed the salads. And the chicken that accompanies. I looked forward to ordering the fajita salad that I’ve enjoyed for years ~ why oh why you gotta change this??? Nothing exciting and the chicken on it was similar to something I would pick up and throw on the grill at home. A tasteless boring boneless chicken breast — not fajita chicken. Didn’t eat it. Tried to eat the fatty fajita beef, sent back(I NEVER send food back — too afraid). Received more of the same. That’s it. No need to go on and on. I’m sad and I’m not going back.

I’ve been here once before, maybe a week ago. Anywho the first time I had chicken quesadillas, cheese nachos, chili con queso, guacamole, and the famous green salsa. Now I was at a meeting so don’t think I consumed all of this alone. The chicken quesadillas were phenomenal along with the chili con queso and salsa. I loved how the queso had both the white and American cheese mixed. I thought it was the coolest thing ever to see the chef prepare the guac right in front of us. Granted I’m not a guac fan, however, those who I was with loved it. Now the cheese nachos were just gross. Just looked like some grated cheese microwaved onto some nacho chips. Chips were hard and the cheese wasn’t even hot. It was just a mess. The servers were very attentive though. Fast forward to today I had the chili con queso and green salsa. Once again the green salsa was delicious. Unfortunately I was a tad disappointed with the chili con queso. Only because it wasn’t all hot and fresh like the week before. I could tell when I went to stir it because the cheese was pretty thick as if it’s been sitting for some time. Also once I tried it, it wasn’t hot either. The server was still very attentive seeing as I was with another big party of people. So the food might be hit or miss but the green salsa I’m sure will always be a hit!

I’ve always loved Ninfa’s and to me Tio Javi’s is just as good if not better. The fajitas are good, the table side guacamole is delicious and fresh and I looove the quesos. I think those are my favorite! I think my favorite ones are the steak fajita quesos because the steak is marinated really well and they always use tons of cheese. I love that they make fresh tortillas daily too. Javi is also super nice and always wants to make sure that everything is ok with your food so when he’s there he usually walks around and checks in with customers to make sure things are ok. The fajitas are always good too. I’ve had the steak and the chicken and they were both really tasty especially with the Chihuahua topping. Last time I got the special which was the Jackie with the Chihuahua topping and 4 shrimp and it was delicious! They put tons of bacon and cheese on top of the meat. They also have two really good salsas but my favorite will always be the green one. I don’t know what they put in it but it’s very addictive. For dessert the Chocolate Banana is really delicious! Most of the time I’m too full to get it but if you’ve never had it it’s definitely worth a try. Happy Hour is Monday from 11am — 10pm and Tues. — Fri. 11am — 7pm. The staff is really nice and Matthew McConaughey is at the front door waiting to greet you when you walk in.

Gets a 2 only because of the EXCELLENT and ATTENTIVE service. I make a practice of never sending food back because I’m not sure what kitchen staff might do to it, but the cheese enchiladas were very bland and lukewarm. El Rio Grande has me spoiled with its home cooking. I went here only because El Rio is closed on Mondays and this place has always had fantastic tortillas.

My favorite Mexican place in Baton Rouge. Have been going for years when it was Ninfas and was skeptical when the name changed but still great food. The Fresh tortillas, green salsa and the queso’s are the best.

Formerly Ninfa’s Tio Javi’s is probably the best Tex-Mex food in Baton Rouge. Definitely not just your average«mexican restaurant» They are a step above no doubt. Lots of menu items you will not find anywhere else and an upscale classy atmosphere to go with it. They also have an excellent bar with great bar specials on things like apps and small plates. First off their Green sauce they bring out for free with the chips is SOOGOOD!!! They also brig a traditional red salsa which is good but for me teh green stuff takes the star role. I always go thru 2 or 3 cups of it!!! hahahaha I love their steak. whether is be fajitas or a while skirt steak on a platter smothered with cheese and onions! its so good! Also, their CCQ(Chili Con Queso) is the best I have ever had. they incorporate lots of dices veggies in with the cheese that give it not only texture contrast but a great flavor. But the big story here is the Tortillas. HAND made from scratch from day one. They even have a clear cubicle set up where you can watch this process happen, no presses here its all done by hand and the result is a tortilla unlike any you have ever tried… I can eat these all by themselves. they are great sipped in the CCQ! Bottom line is you can not go wrong here. From fajitas to enchiladas to the combo platters its all good! Dont forget to try one of their Rita’s like the prickly pear I loved this one!

Unfortunately the food here is not as good as it once was. The queso was great, other than that our chicken fajita fiesta plate was nothing special. The homemade tortillas were doughy, and the salsa had a strange flavor. The server was nice, but rushed us. We were still eating our meal when she asked us if we wanted a box, and handed us our check.

Disclaimer: I never really liked Ninfa’s. My bf was always a bigger fan of Ninfa’s than I so after the name change I decided to give it another shot. Bad news for me is that not too much changed. There are a few new items on the menu and my taco plate was better than I expected but a lot of the things I didn’t like before are still there. These are all personal preferences when it comes to Tex Mex but I’ll rattle them off anyway. The chips are too thick and come out in clumps… the plus is they are warm. The salsa is a little on the bland side and the green salsa is a little thick for my taste. We ordered queso and it was not bad but also not great. The margaritas were also just mediocre. All in all I wouldn’t pitch a fit if my friends want to go back but it’s never going to be my suggestion on Mexican Friday.

Refried beans were not good and the margarita was average at best. Taco was good. Price was right for average food.

Hubby and I had cocktails and snacks here, it was very good. «Skinny margarita» was a little tart for my taste but I put a drop of my sweetener in it and it was perfect. Our bartender was nice we’d go again.

While I definitely was not in Texas any more, this was a great place that was easy to walk to from the hotel I was staying. Our server was great! My son and I split the an order of chicken flautas, I can say that I have had better at Taco Cabana but my SO had the chili con queso enchiladas and those were delicious but how can you mess that up? The rice was a bit bland but the chips and salsa(red and green) were nothing short of fantastic! They did have a full bar and a awesome selection of frozen and on the rocks cocktails! If I’m ever staying next door, I would make the stop again, but for lunch!

Always the best. Fresh tortillas. Amazing fajitas. Chips and salsa. Queso and guac are so good. Margaritas are 2 for 1 during happy hour and they’re very good. Hands down best Mexican in Louisiana. Better than Superior. This is our go to Mexican. Great for families.

Same food, different name. This is the original Ninfa’s with a quick face lift and better happy hour specials. The inside is much more colorful and they have added some happy hour specials like all you can eat quesadillas on Monday nights. The food is still classic Tex-Mex with local twist. The service is rarely consistent but the food is so I will defiantly take that!

Went here to celebrate my sister-in-laws 23rd birthday. We chose this place because we all loved it when it was Ninfa’s. Not so much now. The wait staff was pleasant, restaurant clean, and the margaritas were refreshing! However, the food was just not fabulous. Out of my party of 7, no one took leftovers with them. Portions were HUGE. Salsa, both green and red was delicious. Overall, I would not go back. Wasn’t awful just not spectacular.

Tio Javi’s was formerly Ninfa’s. Before the change, I had only been there one other time. The restaurant is huge, but their parking lot is not, so the overflow has to park in the lots of the Crowne Plaza. It always seems so lively in there, much like it’s a never-ending fiesta! Olé! They are so courteous at the door and I was immediately greeted upon my entrance. When I visit a Mexican restaurant, I almost always order steak and I love fajitas. So, I ordered the«Fajitas for 2» here and it was massive. If I was extremely hungry, I would have devoured the plate. This was definitely the perfect choice for myself, my husband and daughter to share. Oh what a steak! The meat was moist and wonderfully seasoned — not too spicy and very flavorful. They provided us with different sauces for the chips, which I thoroughly enjoyed. You just can’t eat 2 chips and call it a day. The fajita platter came sizzling and I gobbled my portion up quickly! If you are a meat eater, don’t forget to order this dish, which is great for sharing! Can’t decide between the chicken or steak? You will not be disappointed with the steak. I hope that it will taste like this the next time I come back! Don’t forget to wash it down with one of their refreshing margaritas! Enjoy and party on! Eat steak fajitas!

When I found out Ninfa’s had changed to Tio Javi’s it was nearly enough to make me boycott BR(well, not really LSU and all), so when I stopped after the Arkansas debacle(LSU loss for those from Mars) I was relieved to find out not that much had changed. Same friendly student types as servers, same salsa, green sauce and big warm baskets of chips, same big servings, and best of all same hot fresh house-made flour tortillas. Steak soft taco was pretty good too, maybe a little greasy. If you liked Ninfa’s it’s not actually the end of the world this place is pretty close(half heard a waiter giving explanation that name had changed but same recipes) you just may have to get used to the name change.

The Fajita’s here are really good. They come out sizzling on a hot plate with all kinds of good stuff on the side. I’m not much for alcohol but the Margs are tasty and go well with the food. Give them a try, you will see the only thing that’s changed is the name.

OK so those of you who know me know I am a Ninfa’s fan from way back. I was upset to find out Tio Javi’s had taken over but glad to find out the owners are basically the same. Thank God I read reviews and found that the menu basically stayed the same with Tio Javi’s tweaking the recipes which are absolutely delicious. We started with chips, green sauce(yummy), chili con queso(yummy). We went ahead and got the beef fajitas for two(knowing I would have to take a doggy bag for later). The fajitas were served medium rare(perfect) with two set ups of charro bean and rice. Here is the kicker… homemade tortillas.(q the angels singing) Pappcitos Cantina has been my go to since Ninfa’s went out of business back bome in Fort Worth. Look out Pappacito here comes Tio Javi’s.

We came in for«opening» night. The penny margaritas were about 8oz and strong, teh chips and salsa were as I remembered and so were the fajitas. We ordered the Jackie(s) and had nothing to complain about. Looking at the menu it seems that they added a few new entrees, but the majority of the menu remained the same. The one thing I could have maybe complained about was the price of the queso. It is $ 7.99, which in my opinion is a bit much for 2 ounces. Maybe the price of dairy is high right now? Other than that I cant wait to go back.

This was Ninfa’s Louisiana and they promised when it became Tio Javi’s the menu would stay the same as well as the drinks. It just a rebranding and as far as I can tell so far that is true. There are a few new items on the menu like a spicy Tuna Tostada, brisket tamales and Quail. I got here before lunch ended and ordered the lunch flautas, they were crispy and good. The salsa is the same, I like the molcajete the best but you have to ask for it, and it’s still free. The NInfaritas are now Javiritas but they taste the same(tart enough but they don’t seem as potent) tonight they were 1cent between 4 and 6pm. If you loved Ninfa’s then don’t hesitate to stop by and check out what Javier Pallais alias Tio Javi is cooking up.
