I was visiting from out of town so not being familiar with the restaurants in the area I stopped into on the boarder. This is the first review I have ever written but I just received the worst service I have ever had. I sat right in the middle of the bar I asked for chips and they said I could go get them myself which wouldn’t be a problem but as I told her there were no chairs I was just standing and if I left to get the chips my place would get taken. So she said she would get them. After waiting 15 minutes to order and still no chips I asked since I ordered food could I please gets some chips now, and I did. The thing that just got me was my food order came out and I asked if I could get some hot sauce and she said sure then immediately turned and asked other people at the bar if they needed drinks. I waited another 15 minutes while she served drinks before she finally brought out the hot sauce. I never did touch my food as it was cold by the time she finally did bring it. I just asked for my check and paid and left as I felt like complaining to her about her service would not have done any good.

I think this place is a bit underrated, at least if one goes by some of the reviews here. It’s basic, Mexican fare, nothing terribly interesting, but properly prepared, and certainly decent. If there hadn’t been all the poor ratings, I’d probably gone with three stars, but I’m trying to even things out a bit. If you have proper expectations for a midline, touristy Mexican restaurant, this will meet those expectations.

Their«late night» menu is a joke in my opinion. There’s about 5 things to choose from and the portions are mini… Good drinks but I wish there were real entrees for late nighters!

Not the place it used to be. Saturday night and not busy. Food was slow to come out. No eating utensils so we found them ourselves. Failed to clear off the table. Plates piled up. Went 30 minutes without a refill of water.

So I am sitting on the patio trying to figure out the politest professional way to say that my experience thus far has been absofuckinglootly horrible. There was 1 table other than ours at 7:30pm. We arrived and ordered our drinks… which came over 30 minutes later. We ordered our food and then waited an hour. I got the simplest thing i could find on the menu. Chicken fajitas. When they finally arrived they came without tortillas. So I asked the waitress for torillas. I waited so long for the torillas that when I decided to just eat the damn chicken, it was cold and the cheese had almost hardened. The 2 other people eating didnt even eat their food because it was cold and dried out upon deliverly to the table. The waitress asked if they wanted a To-Go box for their uneaten meals. Why would someone who didnt want the food you served want to take it home? I not only DONOTRECOMMEND this restaurant, I pray that the board of health shuts them down for serving mexican flavored cold leather cow ass!!!

I’ve had worse and I’ve had better Kind of like wearing a turtleneck sweater Happy hour goods priced to fill Very very happy when I got the bill The Rita’s were good, empanadas tasty To say I’ll hurry back might be a little hasty All in all a solid score of three And I don’t think they have seen the last of me Give em a try and don’t forget to vote Only wish they had some tacos with goat

On The Border is your typical chain Tex-Mex restaurant. I find the salsa to be pretty spicy. Even more so than the actual«Mexican» dish you may order. I used to come here a lot but not so much since I’ve found other more authentic Mexican restaurants. Overall, the food is pretty good. Typical food. Typical prices. Typical atmosphere. It’s not really bad food it’s just my palette prefers a more authentic experience.

The restaurant has changed a lot in the last 2 yrs. It was my favorite Tex-Mex place to go until recently. I visited here with friends for an early dinner on a Monday. We were the only customers and service was extremely slow. I had to request a sprite twice because the waiter gave me water the first time. The menu has changed since the last time I was there. There used to be some really nice combo deals where you picked 2 or 3 smaller sized entrees out of 10 – 15 options with beans and rice on the side. This was all for $ 7 – 9. I generally picked the beef and chicken empanada combo. To my surprise, empanadas were under appetizers for $ 8. I could only order beef or chicken, not half/half of each. No sides were part of it. So basically, I was paying more for less. The combo deal has been nixed even though it’s on the website. Our waiter was extremely rude and slow. In the hour and a half we were there, one other party came in. There was no excuse for this. My bill ended up being $ 13 for a small appetizer and a soda. I wasn’t very hungry for dinner, but if I had been then a $ 13 meal would have been insufficient. This restaurant is a close friend’s favorite so unfortunately, I will have to return in the future. But I really wish I didn’t have to and so I don’t recommend it.

Dropped in for happy hour on a wednesday — it was not very busy — but it was a Wednesday and it was rainy. Service was very attentive and assisted us with the menu and happy hour specials as well as returned often to check up on our table. The margaritas were okay; the chips this time were huge —never seen chips served that large and perhaps there is a reason it is such but these were the largest I have seen. The queso was good and so was the salsa.

Simply put: The food is NOT good. Not going back again. Been there 3 times, tried so hard to like it. I see the reviews are highly variable, but no time did I leave satisfied with my food. The explanation: Frozen margarita was decidedly in the liquid phase… and not even very cold. The other time I got a drink, it looked nothing like the picture, tasted like straight mix, and cost more than most of the entrees. The fajita steak is poor quality and possibly the wrong cut — chewy, tasteless, and not enough no matter what you order. Tiny side salad looked like the«Fresh Express» bagged ones you get in the supermarket. Nothing special about«specialty» quesos. Even the chips are boring and just wrong — too big, too flat, not greasy enough, not salty enough, like the taco you get in the store-bought hard shell box. Plus, minor service-related things — forgetting dressing on salad, extended time before checking if the food’s OK/not asking if we need anything — but nothing that would cause me to reduce a tip, so that’s not all bad. Waited a while for the food, but it was Cinco de Mayo, so that was forgivable — I’ll give them that even as the dining room was emptying out, though I sincerely believe they’re understaffed as I watched the hostess clear tables. On the plus side, the prices are somewhat reasonable, but you could get better food for less at Izzo’s or Qdoba and you don’t have to tip there if you don’t want to. They do have some unique entrees, but it does not make an ounce of sense to try them since they struggle to be mediocre at best. I also never go out of my way to leave a review – either on Unilocal or as feedback to a restaurant, but I did both. It pains me to write a negative review since I think this place has a lot of potential to be better than it is. For now… NOTGOINGBACK.

Personally I really dont get the bad reviews of this place. Ive been here probably 10+ times over the years and have never had a bad meal. Ever. We went tonight and it was as good or better than usual. I will admit that the salsa is always too spicy for me and my mixed drink was STRONG. But we had a great waiter and very good food. I highly recommend the Baja with the fried Avocado and their tortilla soup is very good. Also one of the better atmospheres for Mexican in town as well. I didnt know that they have a brunch too, Im going to have to check that out soon!

I hate to start a review off on the negative, but to get straight to the point, the food was not good. I’ve been to quite a few Mexican restaurants; even worked in one for a year, and to sum this visit up in one word… disappointing. The service was good, the server was on point. The chips and salsa were good, maybe a bit too spicy but still good. The fajitas tasted very commercial, and by commerical I mean anyone can make them; there was no special Hispanic flavor or flair. The meat came out on a bed of grilled veggies as it normally would, but it just tasted like grilled steak. I can’t help but remember what Robert Irvine told a client once, while watching restaurant impossible. If they can make it at home, why would they come and spend money at your restaurant? This is exactly how I felt, and with that I probably won’t be back.

Wow! Finally some place in Baton Rouge that has enchiladas like i got in El Paso and Juarez. Stacked instead of rolled. And served with a fried egg… just like mom makes!!! Might sound weird but try it. Muy Autentico!!! The service was great. Friday night early at the bar. Great happy hour menu. Beer and«drinks» plus a variety of food options. So inexpensive but flavorful. Can’t wait to bring my mom back to try the stacked enchiladas! What a treat!

The food is ok but not great. My enchiladas were decent but the quest was awful, like Kraft cheese powder mixed with salsa. And, I love cheese but found it inedible. Service wasn’t great as we received our appetizer at the same time as our meal. Entrees were ok, normal chain food.

I heard this place was awful. I had no choice but to go with a co-worker on our lunch bc it was close and we were in a rush. We get there & its empty and we sit at the bar. Nachos and salsa wasn’t good and even beer wasn’t good. My chicken quesadilla comes out and I eat some and then discover there’s a baby roach in my food. Manager said he’d come out but never did. Meal was free and we had had tons of beers before food came out so all that was free which was nice but Will NEVER be back!

Ohhhhh chain restaurants. Where to begin? I can just never give a good rating to one, I’m sorry. But I guess three stars isn’t bad. My service was good. We sat on the patio. I actually really like their patio. I thought the salsa was too spicy. I had the veggie fajitas. They were okay. All of the vegetables on there had barely been cooked, except for the squash. The kids taco is HUGE. The brisket tacos were good, not great. It’s reasonably priced and pretty quick.

This place has the best chicken tortilla soup in all of Baton Rouge. I come here just for it and try some other stuff too. Their drinks are really good and the food is good for the price The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is because there have been more times than I care to remember that I wasn’t a big fan of my waitress. They are either not that attentive or not that friendly. Either way my coworkers and I make it a point to come here for lunch about once a week and we enjoy ourselves.

Your average American Mexican food place, if you’ve been to one anywhere in the US, you’ve been to any of them. We had a group of 6 Saturday night, seating wasn’t an issue, and our service was pretty good, although our waiter Nathan seemed to be either new, nervous, or both. Chips and salsa were brought to the table, waters, and drinks. We ordered queso for the table, not the best I’ve had, not the worst. We all ordered our meals and they took a pretty long time to get out, but no one had an issue with their meals, the salads looked really good, and the fajita plates come with a lot of food! I had the«queso chicken» with the queso on the side, it comes with a side of sautéed zucchini and yellow squash. It’s what I usually get when I come here. Prices are reasonable, food’s alright.

Nobody waited on us. They weren’t especially crowded or busy. We waited about 15 minutes, then we left. Won’t be back.
