Astor Room is always hit or miss. Which is a shame because I always want it to be a hit! A few years back the food was always on point, and the atmosphere matched. Over the past year and a half or so — not so much. The menu has been downgraded and the food quality seems to often suffer. HOWEVER, yesterday I had a great experience that makes me wonder if we should start adding Astor Room back into the rotation! We kept it simple– Happy Hour drinks at the bar and snacks. Their weekend(yes!) HH is great — bogo beers and $ 1 oysters. The bartender(I didn’t catch his name) was friendly and attentive and his beer suggestion was perfect. We had a few oysters and they were great! The cocktail sauce and vinegar were both fantastic. And then there’s the candied bacon — yum. Seriously awesome. We got the bill and couldn’t believe how affordable it was which was really nice. Looks like we’ll be stopping by more often on Saturday afternoons this summer!

Echoing sentiments of a less than stellar brunch. Greens seem to be dressed in soy sauce? Hash brown potatoes barely cooked… crispy like a raw potato. Loud room made louder by the mostly kids in attendance. Watered down coffee. Def not worth the over 30 price fix. Service nice and music good… step up the brunch food to match!

Went just for the $ 1 oysters during happy hour. Now this is probably not their fault, but the particular ones they had that day were HUGE and off-putting. We couldn’t even get through a dozen. Not to mention my boyfriend got sick a block and half after we started walking home. We also weren’t told that there were cocktail specials, and realized it only after we had ordered wine. The server was very nice and the piano player was a nice touch, but just not enough to make this a good experience.

Astor room for sunday brunch is amazing live music and unlimited mimosas. the price is just right and the food is delicious. They accommodate to large groups well and the portions of food is more than enough. All guest are treated great, with outstanding service from the servers. The bar is pretty well stocked, and the ladies washroom has beautiful wallpaper lol,(no really, I really like the wallpaper)

I was actually going to try s prime house but they were closed for renovation so i found this place and i’m glad i’m did. They have a great and simple menu and is reasonably priced. The service was also good. Attentive but not too attentive if you know what i mean. The food tasted great. Decent size portions too. We will definitely be going back there!

I came here for the $ 1 oyster happy hour and had a great time. From the outside this restaurant seems like it might be kind of stuffy but it’s more casual and relaxed than I expected. For the upscale food, the prices seem like a good value. I ordered the tuna appetizer and the portion was huge(most places give you a few little pieces of tuna but this was a whole plateful) and it was delicious. My cocktail, the Queen’s Road, was SO good. Also had a tasty kale salad. The servers were attentive and kind. I was worried about the live music. I’ve been burned before. At a lot of restaurants the music is bad and/or too loud. But the live jazz here Saturday evening was excellent. The volume was perfect – you could still hold a conversation. And the musicians were talented and fun.

Been here many times. Great atmosphere, and lots of fun live music. The drinks are great, and the food has always been good. Service tends to be friendly. Definitely a great option for a date if you’re in the area.

I been to this place Sunday night and it’s the second time I work as a manager for a restaurant and I can say this place is the best in hosting seats tables and the look for the place makes you feel kind of classy that you are sitting in one of the nice American movies even the choice of the Jazz music with amazing I ordered the skirt steak really delicious and cooked in a perfect way thank for the chef. Restrooms are clean smell good. The waitress Emily was very nice and sweet she does a good job beside she has a very nice sweet smile on her face all the time she helps you in what you need and ask about in the menu for you Emily. This is the place you should be in all the time and bring your friends too. Thank you for the management and good luck for the owner with his perfect business.

This review is based on the bottomless brunch. My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday at 1pm with a reservation. We had to wait for 20 minutes because all the tables were full. The hostess was nice and apologetic, we could tell she felt bad for having us wait. They were good at refilling the bottomless drinks and the food was excellent. I had the Fried Chicken and Waffles, while my boyfriend had the Steak and Eggs.(Although, I did get a bad stomachache after eating, but you can expect that from a heavy plate of greasy chicken and sweet waffles-yum!) I give it three stars for having to wait 20 minutes when we had a reservation, the ambiance is a little cheesy, the tables are set –up in a weird arrangement and I saw the table next to me pulling paper out of their coffee’s – gross.

I’ve came here for just their happy hour only. Great wine selection. Beer selection is ok. What won me over is the bar bacon here. DELICIOUS!!! It’s sweet and salty, just the way I love my bacon. They have live jazz music which is wonderful. They’re doing a movie and dinner promo now where they give you a free movie ticket to Kaufman Astoria nearby with a purchase of their $ 30 prix fixe menu. I will be back for that and I will update my review!

Had dinner here a few times with a group of friends. Food was good, manager John is a great host along with our fav server Emily but what really gives it that special feel is JOSH. He was dressed as Charlie Chaplin one night and was so entertaining. He did not break character once. When he is out of costume he walks by and make a joke here and there. Very nice place that makes you feel like a movie star

We came here for a private party and it was a really nice space for a gathering! I really liked the ambiance with the staff was incredibly nice! We started the morning off with some bloody’s and mimosa’s. I am typically a mimosa fan but i found the temperature of the drinks to be a little on the warm side. That being said, i had a bloody and it was super spicy, strong and delicious — 1 was plenty! For brunch we had eggs benedict and chicken with waffles. Sadly, one of my eggs was overcooked, but I can imagine this happen when you are serving brunch to 30 plus people! The other egg was cooked perfectly and i really enjoyed the flavor of the dish. A nice touch was the tomato — so well cooked :) My husbands chicken and waffles were HUGE. The chicken was really deliciously cooked but the waffles were just okay. Overall would like to return for dinner!

I love the vibe and ambiance of this place. Great live music. Great happy hour specials — half off beer and wine, $ 1 oysters. Appetizers and Dinner food are mediocre. I would continue to drink here, but perhaps go elsewhere for dinner.

Another great place for happy hour from 5−7pm. Love that they have one of my favorite beer, Schöfferhofer Grapefruit on tap. Plus the candied bacon that you can chow down at the bar while enjoying your drinks or dollar oysters. There’s live music on the weekend during the happy hour as well. I also heard there’s a trivia game(Geeks Who Drink) on Tuesday night @ 8pm that I still have yet to check it out. Overall this is a good place to hang out and enjoy live music. Bartenders are very friendly!

I love the Astor Room. It’s so classy and fancy. Went here for a wedding this summer and I’ve been here previously for a Unilocal Event over a year ago. But going to the Unilocal Event alone didn’t give it justice. The actual restaurant space has been around since at least the 1920’s and had served as a commissary for stars working in the movie studio across the street to enjoy a meal and cocktail in between filming. The inside is bedecked with fancy chandeliers, a gaudy jewel encrusted bovine, and an Astor Beaver within a space of original architecture and hard wood floors. The beaver actually is an homage to John Jacob Astor and their family since their money and fortune was big on beaver pelting. The more you know. This particular wedding was situated around brunch. We had an unlimited mimosa, bloody mary, or stella artois set up for a few hours. Those mimosas quickly turned into ‘gimme sparkling prosecco, hold the juice’. The options on the wedding brunch menu were for their classic eggs benedict, the challah french toast with a berry compote and whipped cream, or what I ordered with the buttermilk ranch fried chicken and waffles. I have no regrets. These were the most delicious chicken and waffles that I’ve ever had in my life. The chicken was moist and flavorful and the belgian waffle was super fluffy and came in enormous chunks with a sprinkling of candied walnuts. Portion size this was a beast. All of this came with a side saucer of bourbon maple syrup and a separate saucer of red hot cream. The combination of bourbon maple syrup and a thick creamy sauce churned with hot sauce may not sound like your cup of tea, but trust me in that this a miracle food baby combination. Fresh hot donut holes were served at the beginning of this fantastic meal with a trio of condiments: vanilla mascarpone, orange marmalade, and raspberry jam. When they say hot they mean hot and they stayed warm for the duration that they lasted on the table. Waiting staff was fantastic for the entire event. Though, near the ending we felt all a little rushed to clean up and usher everyone out for the restaurant’s dinner service at 4pm. After trying their brunch, I would definitely come back though on my own to perhaps try their happy hour: 2 for 1 beer & wine specials and $ 1 Select Oysters from 5−7pm on apparently Tuesdays — Sundays.

Very interesting spot right at the Kaufman Astoria studios. I came here for the Actoria show which my brother was performing in. Overall I’m glad I got to experience it. Drinks were good but a little pricey. Luckily there was no cover or drink minimum. If I ever get the chance I’ll come back for sure.

Love the décor and set up of the Astor Room. Makes me feel like I time traveled. We were greeted by the hostess who was outside of the restaurant. Friendly and immediately sat us. We had a reservation from OpenTable. Jazz brunch is fun and not too overwhelmingly loud like most places with live music are. The vibe was fantastic. We started with the donut holes and grapefruit. My grapefruit was delicious, with a good amount of bruleed sugar on top. My friend really seemed to enjoy the donut holes. For my entrée, I had the chicken & waffles. It was amazing. The Astor Room has the BEST fried chicken. It’s fried then tossed with ranch seasoning. So flavorful and moist! The portion was so big, we had to take the rest to go. The pre-fixe also comes with coffee & tea along with a mimosa or bloody mary. The mimosa was great, but the bloody mary. not so much. The bloody mary mix was a little watered down and more on the sweet side. Service was sub par. Our server was great right at the beginning, until it took us a while to place our order and receive our drinks. The bussers and the floor manager were great. The floor manager was going from table to table to see how everything was ans to refill on coffee if anyone needed more. Ladies room has 2 stalls and were clean. Cute décor in the bathroom also.

We came here for happy hour to try their infamous cocktails. I truly enjoyed this place. #1 reason why is purely the atmosphere. You feel like you are taken back in time to some old jazz bar. It just has this old school feel to it. They also have this amazing spiced bacon on the bar which is so unique and tasty. $ 1 oysters at happy hour are a great deal. Bartender was super sweet and friendly. I would love to come back here when they have live music. Great cocktails and great ambience!
