Best Irish breakfast outside of Sunnyside or Ireland. The owner is the nicest most knowledgable Irish man I have met in a long time. Takes the time to educate you on Irish culture and drinks. Sweetheart of a man. Staff is attentive and always up to putting on any football match occurring in the world. Black and Tan is my go to!

The owner and bartenders are so friendly! We were even given a «show» with our last meal as the bartender performed card tricks for us. My favorite dishes here are the steak and eggs with really delicious home fries, and the chicken pot pie.

Update: I just had the tuna salad. The portion was generous and very fresh. I also had the French onion soup which is very good but it needs twice as much cheese(at least in my opinion).

I really don’t have any complaints about this spot. It’s one of the well known bars in Astoria and it’s praised by anybody who I’ve ever spoken to about it. I like the older bars, sometimes you need to pop into the local watering holes and relax. I’ve stopped in here a few times and always had a good experience. Drinks are very fairly priced and the food as well. Speaking of the food– the food it’s very good! They also have plenty of seating room in the back if the front is filled up. The service is really good too– always have a pleasant waitress and good bartenders. I always see large groups of people having lunch or dinner together. People always seem so involved in conversation and laughing it up. They have a jukebox that is usually on as well– it’s not too loud either so you can actually talk to people. It’s just a pleasant setting. This visit I came in on St. Patrick’s Day and this is a MUST for all you local Astorians! Even if you’re not from Astoria haha! They do a special Irish menu for the day and it’s soooo good! I ended up getting the bangers and mash and trying some of my fiancé’s corned beef and cabbage which was so delicious! I do believe they have these items available for whenever you go actually and not just St. Patrick’s Day. So what luck– you can go and try it any time! Make a stop in here one day or night and give it a shot!

This is another queen’s favorites of mine. In my opinion, the best fish & chips in Queens. My husband loves their shepherds pie. They know how to make a black n tan(also with Smithwick’s). The workers are nice, service is good & the atmosphere is always jolly. It is a good place to sit and eat or hang out at the bar. If you sit at the bar, you will always find a nice local with a good story.

This place had some pretty darn good Shepard Pie. The owner is a nice guy. I like places like that. When you leave he comes and shakes your hand and thanks you for coming. Just a quite dinner\ lunch over with consistently good food.

Cronin & Phelan’s is an old school bar – very old school – and exceptionally good food. who would have thunk it? Perhaps that’s why Cronin’s has been around as long as it has which is too long for me to remember. The barkeeps are feisty or compassionate as needed. And while they could be a bit more efficient, the attitude of the place ads to its charm – and appeal.

Must be an East Coast thing but they will just change the channel without asking if I am watching it or if anyone is watching. Not everyone is a NY fan. The bartender spends more time talking and joking with the regulars. I might be a regular one day… The food is good o I would give it 3 and a half stars

I had brunch this past Sunday, Nov 30TH at Cronin & Phelan’s I have not been there since this past summer and the Brunch has changed they give you less food and they do not give you any scones. I had a very young waitress and maybe she was not having a good day and it was early before the crowd came in. They were not very crowded she seemed to be in a very bad mood; however, the service was terrible this young waitress never bought us a check; we had to go and find this waitress she did not even come over to us to see how everything was so we will not be returning to Cronin & Phelan’s.

This is a great karaōke dive bar in Astoria. The beers are around $ 7 a glass, and the food is pretty good for a dive bar. There tend to be a surprising amount of drunk people into Eugenics outside smoking, but they eventually leave when you win a debate with them.

Sometimes you need a break from dive bars and fancy schmancy bars where you occasionally feel out of place. Cronin & Phelan’s comes in handy in times like these. It’s not the biggest bar and there isn’t much seating but it’s cozy and friendly. The regulars are known by the bartenders. Everyone is laughing and having a great time. Sports play on the TVs scattered all around. They also have an impressive beer list. I didn’t try their food but next time I definitely will.

Best bar in history of bars. I have been coming to this spot for about 6 years now and I cannot get enough of it. It’s so laid back and comfy, it’s really easy to just chill here all night long. Mine and my husbands second date was here and we sat at the bar for 3 + hours just hanging with Dave(the best bartender ever) and getting to know eachother. I bring all of my friends here and everyone loves the low key vibe, perfectly poured drinks, and of course Dave. When I was in Ireland, I realized just how much of an authentic Irish pub this place really is and it made me love it even more. Oh also, their food is incredibly delicious.

I’m pretty astonished by the number of good reviews this place has. It’s coloring this review because I was about to give it one star. I came here once with a group of friends(we’re in the area at least weekly) and we’ve all agreed never to return. Admittedly, we didn’t come here for the food. It was after 9pm on a Monday and, as none of the other ten people in the bar were eating, we weren’t aware that this place even served food. We were a group of seven, so we were seated in the dining section. Service was fine. And maybe it was my error to try and order cocktails at an Irish pub, but I gave them three chances. When I asked the waitress for a Moscow Mule she asked, «What’s that?» Seriously? I didn’t think it was that exotic. Ever hear of ginger ale and vodka? So I ordered a cranberry vodka instead. It came in a soda glass, full of ice and boozy tasting– but apparently, not boozy enough. I ordered another cocktail that was just as weak and shoddily assembled. Finally, I went up to the bar and ordered a Black Russian. It came in a 6oz. Italian wine glass. I practically finished it in one gulp and it burned going down. You’re definitely not getting any frills with your liquor here. The drinks weren’t doing it for me, so I had a taste of a friend’s Guinness, Cronin and Phelan’s had it on tap– and it tasted watered down. What the hell? I’m not princessy. I don’t really expect anything great from a beer dungeon, but are good drinks really too much to ask from an Irish pub?

Yeah. This place is really cool– and I am not usually one to seek the Irish pub type places. Came to sit at the bar to watch baseball and get some soup(bf was craving French onion soup). I got pea soup. Both were spectacular. Plus they dropped off a complementary basket of Irish soda bread biscuits, which were so Delish. The bartender though, is what really gives this place 5 stars. He gave us our third drink on the house plus came over and did a bunch of really cool(seriously not at all lame) card tricks for over 5 minuets. He was so cool. Will def be back! And side note– I’ve been to many Irish bars that are dirty and sticky and this place was so clean and welcoming

Loved this place. Beers are cold. Nice quiet outdoor garden playing a Mets game outside(and you can smoke, with permission from the waitress). Beer prices were decent(I believe $ 5 – 6 drafts at all times) with decent beer selections(Spaten Lager!). Ordered the appetizer sampler and everything was perfectly fried. And it’s right outside the Steinway stop off the R. Definitely wanna come back here to try the Shepards Pie!

I went here for St Patrick’s day a year ago against my better judgment but was PLEASENTLYSURPRISED. working in the restaurant biz I figured it would be crazy busy and unenjoyably. but staff was organized and set up a menu that was only being served(this improved time of our food coming out) the menu consisted of corn beef and cabbage and a few other things. even though we wanted French onion soup and it wasn’t on the menu that day for st patricks day I will not hold it against them because they were efficient and the food was a hit. a week later I went back with my BF for the French onion soup and was very satisfied. loved this place and will be going back again and again.

I love this bar! The food is good and the owner is always around to ask you how the food is. I love the steak sandwich, which is served open faced and with salad. They give you huge portions and are very attentive. This is a true neighborhood place that hopefully does not go out of business due to the changes that have happened in Astoria with all the newbies moving into the neighborhood. Prices are good. This is a great place to take the family.

Always love this place. This used to be just a local bar but now it is a restaurant. Family friendly as well. Super friendly service and great restaurant. I always always come here for beer and wings. They come with a fresh generous load of celery. Also the Cesar salad is pretty delicious. The have a outdoor beer garden seating and indoor seating. Single bathrooms though so you will need to wait if you need to go.

Cronin and Phelan how I love you. I’ve eaten here a few times, sang karaōke, and had some drinks. This place is one of my choice bars when hanging out in my neighborhood. The food is delicious(I love irish food.), the staff is friendly, and the drinks are awesome. My boyfriend even says it’s the best shepard pie he’s ever had. I’ve never eaten anything I’ve disliked here. The staff are kind folks, who provide wonderful service. I do love coming here on on the occasional karaōke night(Saturdays). I also do enjoy the magic show on saturdays as well. I also like occasionally, stopping by when out with friends for a drink.

Lovingly referred to as «Old Man Bar», this place lives up to our nickname for it. The clientele always seems like regulars, from the folks at the bar just having a drink to the families sitting at tables enjoying dinner. I have never just come in here for drinks because you can’t! The food is SO good. Over several visits I have tried omlettes, lamb chops, steaks, ribs, chicken with capers. amongst many other things. Even the SODA bread which is just given while you make your decisions is worth a mention. So tasty. I can’t say enough great things about this place. Now I want to go back.

If you look up in the dictionary what an Irish-American pub should look like, they will hopefully have a picture of Cronin & Phelan’s. It is the antidote for shi shi sushi bars and overpriced Thai fusion restaurants that spring up like weeds when a neighborhood becomes gentrified. When you first walk in, you see a bar that looks very similar to what it did in the early 1900’s(they have an old photo to prove it). Where they have updated, are the large screen TV’s. While I was there, one had a Man U game on and the others were showing the news. At lunch many of the patrons are down to earth, middle aged or retired. There is a friendly vibe and the people working here(dziękuję Evalyna) make you feel welcome… as does Mike, the owner! My friend who is a regular, had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich with a couple of Cours while I went upscale and had chicken rollatini and a red wine. We both liked our lunches. Mine included sides of mashed potatoes and broccoli. Portions are quite generous, prices reasonable and the chef knows what he is doing! So for atmosphere, taste and old time décor, I(as many of the 124 previous reviewers) am happy to give Cronin & Phelan’s 5-star review!

You need to come here. Period. Looks like one of those hole in the walls from the outside which typically are my fav, however, it is adorable inside and has an awesome family feel to it. We were greeted warmly by the staff and checked on numerous times which is nice considering to some of the other«holes» I frequent in Astoriaaaaa. The food is amazing tho! Had the fish and chips which I lovedddd mm reminded me of these bomb ass fish n chips I had in Cayman Islands and fiancé had some huge roast beef sandwich drenched in mozzarella which was also deliciousss. def get a side of gravy for your dipping needs bc it’s worth it! I wanna come back and get the chicken pot pie! All in all good bar, good food… I’ll be back ;)

My friend Steph had wanted to take me here I feel for ages. Like most Astoria establishments that she gets the«squees» about. Since I didn’t make it past our first bar on our St. Patrick’s Day Irish Pub bar crawl, I feel I was gypped and deprived on the Irish Astoria bar tour and glad I finally checked this out even if I didn’t drink here and was vastly hungover after sleeping crookedly on my friend’s boyfriend’s couch and had eggs and coffee for brunch. The place is warm and glowy. That’s exciting. But what’s MORE exciting is that for their complimentary breadbasket at breakfast they give you HUGEFREAKINGDELICIOUSBUTTERYSCONES! Yes. You heard me. I could have made an entire additional meal out of those huge nuggets of heaven(which I did and was incredibly fat and happy). The other amazing side of all of this is that everything is CHEAPASHELL. I had breakfast for pretty much under $ 10 and I couldn’t come close to finishing it.(I ate too many scones). How was the food? Not bad. I had the traditional eggs benedict with a side of fries. The hollandaise was a little on the too lemony side but the eggs were poached beautifully and I was already in my happy place with eating butter packets and scones. My friend Stephy had made an odd request in that she remembered there was a chicken dish she had once for dinner but it wasn’t on the menu any longer. It’s like a chicken kiev stuffed with cheese and ham and they offered to make it for her anyway. It all comes with a vegetable and mashed potatoes. Vegetables in Stephanie’s case are French fries. Her boyfriend had the traditional Irish Breakfast: Eggs, bangers, black pudding, and ham. I tried the black pudding it was pretty tasty. My friends were confused and expecting pudding but I had had it before a couple years ago in England(blood sausage patties) and its still all the same. Friendly staff, good food, cheap, and relaxing place to hang out in. Lastly, they were showing the Lions on tv. I love you. Also, make note they have karaōke and stand up comedy on Saturdays, Open Mic Nights on Mondays, and some odd dart tournament on Tuesdays.

First time and wont be my last that’s for sure . Its a no thrills good old style Irish pub serving comfort food in comfortable surroundings . Don’t expect a trendy hipster joint serving blazing cocktails but do expect a good old pint of Guiness with your full Irish breakfast or a chicken pot pie the size of your plate . Big portions and no complaints . the server was so friendly I had almost forgotten how nice New Yorkers can be . Ps ask for the HP sauce !

Came here with my friend and her family who has frequently dine at this pub. Yummy bread and raisin biscuits basket. Food: I ordered the Honey BBQ Wings, my friend got the Shepherds Pie, her daughter got the Mozzarella Sticks, and her husband got the special something Yankee(shoot forgot the actual name) Man I tried my friend’s Shepherds Pie and it was very delicious and fulfilling and also her husband’s dish and it was pretty yummy. The owner actually came by our table and greeted my friend’s husband and I could tell it was a very homey pub. Definitely a great food spot so come on by here!
